Great spot with a lot of potential, and this was a hard review to write.
The cocktails are the highlight. The margarita was one of the best I've had, and the spicy watermelon drink was excellent: not too sweet, with just the right kick.
The food is where things fell short. It wasn't bad, and not quite bland, but it lacked the spice, heat, and acid you expect from this cuisine. The guacamole was decent and very smooth, so it's a good fit if you like it without chunks. The hamachi was good, and the tuna tostada was probably my favorite dish of the night.
The scallop aguachile was the real miss. It was heavy, with no heat, and the scallops were simply chopped and sat in a sauce poured around them rather than being marinated in it. The sauce was yellow, and I wondered if they had used the ceviche sauce by mistake, but our server said it was correct. I've spent a lot of time in Latin America and have never seen or tasted aguachile like this. Not a fan.
One practical note: most orders come with only two crisped tortillas. We were constantly asking for more, and the staff happily brought two extra each time, but only two. Sending out more with the dips and ceviches would go a long way.
I'd happily come back for the cocktails, and I hope the kitchen sharpens the menu with more heat, spice, and acid. read more
