This place was very nice on the outside, and also very nice on the inside. There was lots of room to eat outside if you like doing that and just as much seating inside. The person who seated us was very nice and friendly. Our waiter wasn't the nicest, but he wasn't mean. For my drink I ordered the 16 Oz orange juice, it was ok and it wasn't very sweet. For my main meal I ordered the Monte Cristo sandwich, the Canadian bacon was very good (just a tad salty not too salty). The fried egg was also cooked well. The french toast was nice and oily, and buttery, but it was a little soggy. This place didn't have the best food and service but the design and ambience was very good. read more

Pro Tip: Definitely get the blueberry pancakes This place is amazing! Between the servers/host, outdoor seating, being dog-friendly, and amazing food, we were absolutely happy that we came here. We had a dog with us but they had outdoor seating (and most tables that were dining outside had dogs with them too). They also gave our dog (and all of the other dogs) fresh bowls of water (without us asking), which is always nice and I know my dog appreciated it. The food was really good but hands-down, the blueberry pancakes were the best. It's not too thick...it's a bit thin (but not too thin) and was packed with amazing blueberry flavors. I'm afraid to write this review and make it harder to get a table at this gem. Cafe this Way is tucked away behind the Acadia Hotel Downtown. It's a funky space decorated with paintings of the region's natural charm. My husband and I first stumbled upon this place in 2019 and have been avid fans ever since. The food is phenomenal. Every year I look forward to our Bar Harbor trip because I know I'll be able to enjoy the delicious Blueberry pancakes that Cafe this Way cooks up. All of their food is tasty. We've had their country style breakfast (great serving size), their corned beef hash, eggs Benedict, and more. All delicious. Most recently, we tried them out for dinner and WOW! We ordered the Brussels sprouts and watermelon/arugula salad, both phenomenal. I then had the lobster roll, while my husband enjoyed an impossible burger and both were superb. Honestly, not one bad thing about this place. But the best part of it all? The wonderful staff at Cafe this Way. We were in Acadia National Park for four days and decided to end our trip with a breakfast at Cafe This Way in Bar Harbor before heading home. Upon arriving around 8AM, we were promptly greeted by a friendly host staff and asked for our seating preference (indoor or outdoor). We opted for an outdoor seating to enjoy a nice morning weather. Our server quickly greeted us with coffee :) and gave us a few recommendations. I ordered the Howdy Doody (pictured) and my boyfriend got the Canadian Bacon Benedicts. The food came very quickly and were both amazing! Their homefries were cooked perfectly with a right ratio of soft and crunch. Amazing place. We came for bkfs, parking was pretty easy to find on the street. They don't take reservation and the wait was not bad at all. Dj was our waiter. He was super nice and friendly. Currently taking really good covid precautions. They took customers' names and numbers for contact tracing. There is a lot of spacing between tables, since it's situated in a parking lot area. You don't have to worry about being on the street and having pedestrians pass you by. Dog lovers, look forward to servers handing out water bowls in this dog friendly establishment. I saw 4 dogs while I dined. Food was pretty good. Atmosphere and servers were wonderful. I imagine because these dinners are once a week pop ups, the relevance of these food reviews may be obsolete. I enjoyed the salad starters. It's really hard to go wrong with crispy Brussels sprouts. I don't usually like beets but they made the salad in a way that removed the earthiness from it. I would reorder them again. The lobster roll is decent, fries were soggier than what is normal, but still tasty enough for sodium lovers. Spanish style bangers and sweet potato mash were creative. I wish they were open more than once a week for dinner, I would want to try all the other tasty sounding dishes on their menu. :) Drinks, limited but solid. I would get either cocktails they offered again. But I imagine they're probably coming up with new dishes each week, so I'm confident whatever new concoction they make will be delicious. read more

So the day before leaving. Past this place a couple of times and they seemed very busy when passing by a couple of times. So I decided to place an online order for next day pick up. First I like to say I put in a pick up time of 8:30AM and when I got there a little right before 8:30 I saw my food coming out and ready to go. Right on time! The staff was super friendly to all ask if there was anything else they can assist me with. So I ordered a bunch of things off the menu and everything was perfect and hot when I got back to the hotel. Man I have to say the pancakes I got, one order plain another blueberry was so good. Soft in the middle and had a crunch on the edges. Damn it was great. Even the syrup seemed better haha. Had the beef hash and that was also great. Had much flavor and just right. I was very surprised that everything still stayed super hot and not soggy. Wish we had more time to eat here one more time and do some outdoor dining. Will for sure be back to try this place again. There are some other places near by, one called Jeanine's Great Maine Breakfast can not compare. More of a novelty place near a higher tourist area where the cruise ships would come in. Woohoo! As good as it gets! The BEST place for breakfast in Bar Harbor, no questions asked. Go early to snag parking in their lot and avoid a wait, but 2-hour parking on the street if you must. Blueberry pancakes, order of 2 ($7.95) - A MUST! Crisy on the edges, and fluffy in the middle, riddled with blueberries on its underside. Real maple syrup to top it off, and you're ready to take on the day. Cafe Monte Cristo ($10.95) - Delicious!! On the heavier side, but gave us energy to go hiking Green Eggs and Sam Omelet ($9.50) - More of an thick egg crepe folded over and filled with toppings, but tasty nevertheless! Howdy Doody ($10.50) - soooo much meat, and again, more of a thick crepe, but filled to the brim! We came to Cafe This Way for breakfast twice when we vacationed in Bar Harbor. This is a hot spot among tourists, so the restaurant is always crowded. The parking lot of full with cars waiting both times we came here. I had the Benedicts the first time we came here. It was very good, but for some reason, I was expecting better. The second time I had the sourdough French Toast with real maple syrup and toppings of blueberries and bananas. I thought it was excellent. The blueberries were so fresh and delicious. This was an adorable place to grab breakfast! We got there kind of early so no wait, but as we were leaving around 10am it was starting to pick up. That said, we were in and out quickly without feeling rushed, everyone was super friendly (especially the host), and the food was delicious. I ordered The Harney, which arrived with essentially hard boiled eggs vice the poached as stated on the menu. When I pointed this out to the server they shrugged and stated the cook has a lot going on. The hash was also incredibly underwhelming, which was a very chewy consistency and no crunch whatsoever. Sadly, there was the smallest drizzle of hollandaise if you didn't know it was meant to be there you'd miss it. I will never order this again, nor would I recommend anyone risk doing so either. I will say the atmosphere is great, dog friendly and a quiet location off the path on the main road. AMAZING! We a great experience here! We discovered this gem on yelp 4.5 stars. It's set off Mount Desert Street and has some parking - wish we had known as we just forked over $3 to Bar Harbor for metered parking. Although I bet it's impossible to get a spot in the crowded morning hours. Café This Way is very dog friendly and allowed us to have our brunch with our dog sitting next to us. We got here at 11:45am and despite closing at 12N, we were seated at a great table for 4 outside. We never felt rushed but instead felt we had top notch service. Our waiter DJ came over to introduce himself and brought us waters right away asking about coffee. The coffee was very good and comparable to Starbucks. Upon return, he took our order: the restaurant special lobster spinach benedict with home fries, 2 usuals - one with scrambled eggs and the other fried (the usual: 2 eggs prepared your choice, sour dough toast, home fries) plus $1.50 for bacon, single blueberry pancake and a side of hash brown. The food came out lightning quick. Everything was cooked perfectly. The slice of sour dough toast was def fresh bread, not some supermarket loaf, and complimented the eggs well. There was a heaping portion of scrambled eggs that covered the slice of sourdough toast exactly - the toast was just thick enough to support the eggs but not too thick (see photo). The heaping portion of home fries were cooked to perfection with enough crisp but not crunch or overcooking or grease and salted to sublimity. While we weren't able to finish the home fries, we certainly tried. The restaurant special lobster spinach benedict was tasty and had loads of lobster claw meat, the hollandaise sauce was rich but not heavy, piled with spinach on an English muffin. The single blueberry pancake came as a single pancake no home fries but it was half price and did not need it because there was so much leftover on the other 3 plates. This was perfect for a hungry child. The pancake filled the large plate and was both cooked with blueberries and topped with blueberries. These teeny little suckers must have been wild blueberries because they were packed full of flavor and sweetness. DJ was one of the best waiters we've ever had - he didn't miss a beat. When I needed more water, my glass was refilled without asking. He ensured if we needed anything (e.g. salt), we got it right away but he did not hover. What felt like a leisurely brunch was actually over in 20 minutes - I guess we must all spend quite a lot of time waiting for our food to be delivered and not realize that eating the food probably takes 10-15 minutes. We tipped him 20% then threw in another $5 in cash because of the superb service - we really appreciated his part in our great dining experience! You figure it's just breakfast but this is a whole experience and every detail makes it that much better. My kids kept begging to go back but we had run out of time in our vacation to go back but we will return! Café This Way observes social distancing - all staff was wearing masks. All tables were spaced apart - not just the tables being 6 feet apart but the actual chairs pulled away from the tables being 6 feet apart from the other chairs. Cafe This Way is ideally situated to dine outside which can make for a perfect start to the morning. The Cafe offers fairly standard breakfast fare, but does it well. I asked for my potatoes to be extra crispy and they were which does not often happen. The breakfast coffee is good and a good start to the meal. I thought the wild blueberry pancakes were some of the better I have had. They slightly crisped the sides, but they were fluffy inside. Very tasty. I don't get the 4 1/2 star rating. This was my worst experience in Bar Harbor! The inside has a kind of funky bookstore/coffee house vibe. That's the end of the positive comments! With the exception of the host, the staff couldn't have acted more underwhelmed to be there. Not sure if any of them knew how to smile? The coffee came out barely warm (with no option for a sugar substitute), the food came out barely warm (and just average). The English muffin came out with no butter and when I asked for butter, the waiter "forgot". By the time he did bring it out, I was done....not with the meal but with this place! I did something I ABSOLUTELY NEVER DO! I left without leaving a tip! It wasn't earned. Definitely NOT recommended! read more
