They give you the ability to talk to the person that is making your food allowing you to put on it what you do & don't want. They have great customer service and the food is also 5 stars They've done a great job prior to the pandemic, during the pandemic and now hopefully on the downhill side of the pandemic.. I got the quesadilla with shrimp and mango. Unique combination, but nonetheless good. Try it. I'd recommend this place. I was only in Glendale for one day because I was interviewing at Midwestern University. I just decided to stop somewhere for dinner the night before the interview. I saw this place and hoped it was good--and it was. I kinda wanted to try a regular burrito but someone else on Yelp said to try the Shrimp+Mango Quesadilla, so that's what I did. Closed Sundays, and seem to close early at night. Located on the NW corner of Union Hills & 59th ave.. Food is prepared like Subway, right in front of you, but it can be challenging because the person who starts the line doesn't always speak English. They're fine if you just say the order terminology and step aside but if you ask a question then they have to get somene else. For no apparent reason the middle-aged overweight guy who takes the money was rude to me for asking a simple question. This is retail, and I'm sorry you work the register, but there was no reason to be rude. Food was comparable to other fast food places like Chipotle that are a notch up from taco bell and such. Prices are a little high but the portion is large, and it comes with a side of those little churro-like straws. Competition down the road makes this a tough option - Dos Amigos, Rubios, and more. Most of the staff have been working at CR for years which is a reflection of their passion and dedication to the company and food. Because the staff know what they're doing, the food is extremely high quality, consistent, and authentic. The staff is friendly as well and works to get the line down as quickly as possible without sacrificing quality or presentation of the food. The environment of the restaurant is unique and comfortable with high ceilings and bright colors. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. The food brings an authentic baja style taste. The enchiladas are my personal favorite by far. Corn tortillas, cheese, one or one of each of their delicious meats, red or green sauce, rice, and refried or black beans. I always add green chilies on top for a little extra kick and a little extra $. I also add sour cream and fresh green onions with a side of their delicious baja sauce and either their mild or hot salsa. All of the other menu items are delicious, fresh, and authentic as well. Beef rumba salad is light, refreshing and somewhat healthy. Dressing optional as it's so tasty with salsa only. Oh! and don't forget to squeeze lime on it. Quite honestly we had a bit higher hopes. See all the reviews of four stars we had expected something unique. But we found a Chipotle wannabe. I had two shrimp tacos because they had no fish for the fish tacos. The shrimp were not seared they simply warmed then on the griddle. You're given a choice of rice and beans or chips and salsa, I chose chips and salsa. I was given 8 chips and a 1 oz cup of salsa oh, okay maybe it was a 2 oz cup of salsa. My wife claims the black beans were rather good. We also had two margaritas which we are absolutely positive were simply Costco Golden margaritas specials. I happen to like the Costco margarita, so I'm not complaining just noted. read more

Stopped in to this little spot while my son was at the dentist apt nearby. We got the Rumba Burrito lunch special and a kids quesadilla meal for my niece. All 3 of us really liked it. The kids quesadilla is straight forward and comes with chips / salsa and a drink ($4). Our lunch specials had chips / salsa, choice of rice / beans, the build your own burrito and a drink ($7). Each meal came with a cinnamon chips style desert that we didn't really care for. We loved the chips and queso. It's a white cheese blend, was very creamy and we killed it. I'd definitely recommend spending the extra few bucks for the queso. Finally, we ended the meal with a plain and Bavarian Creme churro. They made these fresh while we ate and they were awesome. Warm, crispy, soft in the middle and properly dusted with cinnamon sugar. The Bavarian Creme one tasted like a churro donut. My inner fat kid was very pleased It's not a "write home and tell your mama" spot but the food was tasty and solid. We don't live real close so I wont be making a special trip but the next time I'm in Glendale, I'll definitely be looking to visit this place again. read more

Cafe Rumba is a lunch staple if you work at Honeywell, go to Midwestern, or otherwise work nearby -- it's usually filled with these kinds of locals. Fair price, good portions. I wouldn't go out of the way from some other side of town to eat here, but I find myself getting lunch here with coworkers at least a couple times a week. My family and I were out of the house on a Friday afternoon, so, being in the mood for Mexican cuisine, my mother suggested a place close by I had never been to before. Upon entering the establishment, I took note of the tropical theme it was going for. A palm tree decorated with lights was sitting in the corner. Wallpaper of more palm trees and crystal-blue waters hung above the order counter. The décor did not come off as tacky to me; rather, I found it charming and creative, considering the food has a similar tropical twist. A large menu was on the wall, which had various options for our meal: burritos, tacos, and the usual Mexican dishes. Some of them included the option to add mangos. I decided to go with the lunch special, which, for $7.99, included a small burrito with meat of my choice (I chose beef), cheese, beans, rice, corn, and sour cream. It was accompanied by chips and salsa, "Rumba fries" (cinnamon on fried chips), and a small drink. The employee behind the counter was familiar with the menu, and kindly helped my mother choose which dish to have. There was no line at the counter, so we had our food in less than five minutes of placing our order. My family was pleased with the prices on the menu. Between my father and brother--who had nachos and tacos respectively--their food cost $10. My mother and I spent nearly $20 on our lunch special and taco platter. We took our seats at a clean table and began to chow down. I immediately took a bite of my highly anticipated main course--the burrito. While it was a "small" burrito, it had a good amount of thickness and plenty of filling. The beef was well-seasoned and a little chewy but enjoyable. There was a good balance between the meat and beans with the sour cream and cheese. The corn and rice, admittedly, blended in so much I almost forgot I had included it in my burrito. I finished my burrito happily with a full stomach. I moved onto the chips and salsa. They are what you would expect from any restaurant. They had the right amount of crunch and saltiness, so it was pleasant to snack on. The salsa was not too spicy either, so I happily munched away on my salsa-dipped chips. Finally, the Rumba fries were saved for my dessert. Regrettably, my younger brother stole the bag before I had the chance to fully savor the sweet cinnamon flavor. However, from the few pieces I had, its texture was crispy and light, and the cinnamon left a pleasant aftertaste. My younger brother reports that it "was very delicious." If you're looking for some quick and casual Mexican fare, Cafe Rumba will provide filling and delicious food. With a decent selection of dishes to choose from, the low price of the food also makes this place worth visiting for a midday meal. read more

I have been coming to Rumba for the last 8 years with my family but even more so on my own within the last few years and absolutely love it! This is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant and go to when it comes to something close, great, and fresh. It is a baja style Mexican restaurant that I can't recommend enough! The food is amazing and flavorful, and their staff is always friendly, kind, and helpful. This is one of those places you may miss as you pass by, but it is a must stop and try. They have great fresh baja fish and shrimp tacos with a mango salsa to die for if you aren't into anything too spicy. If you are, they have an assortment of other options that are including their salsas. My favorite part is how affordable it is here! I pay no more than $10 every time I come here, as an individual, so it's an even better option for something quick, healthy, and filling. read more

I'm pretty bummed out on the change of price for the BBQ chicken pizza. I've been visiting rumba for a long while now and remember when it was 8.99 now it's 11.99. I get with times prices change but that was fairly fast same with the overpriced chips and Queso. Cmon the size of that cup of Queso for the price you charge is a joke. Not to mention you'd think you'd get free salsa or tomatillo ranch with the pizza,NOPE. At least not me I've been charged 50 cents for each large container I get. No complaints on customer service and food is phenomenal I'm just pissed at what you charge for 2 bbq chicken pizzas and 6 sides of ranch. 27.00 bucks. The pizza isn't even that big. Maybe save money and stop paying so much on pizza boxes when you can put yours in something a lil smaller and cost efficient so you don't have to continue to rape us on the other stuff:) read more

I ordered the fish tacos and when they went to put the fish inside the tacos I noticed that the food was NOT made to order. My fish was in a warming container- as was all the meat. Ew! My wife wanted to try Cafe Rumba again so off we went along with our friend Kathy R. Kathy got the shredded beef burrito. She told Carol & I the place reminded her of Chipotle only better. Café Rumba was one of my regular lunch spots until my office moved to Peoria, I do miss eating here. It's tucked back in the corner of the lot which can make it difficult to find, but it appears that many of the locals have found it. The food is fresh and prepared right in front of you ala Chipotle, but tastier than Chipotle. They have several types of salsa which compliment the light and crispy chips nicely. My favorites were the chicken burrito, fish tacos (darn good with the white sauce on them), and the quesadilla with green chilies. I stumbled on this place a couple months back after running some lunchtime errands, and was soon coming back with reinforcements.... It reminds me of a cross between Chipotle and Bajio, The overall presentation seems a little more authentic, if that makes sense. The small burrito lunch special is a good deal, but I have grown to love the (slightly more expensive) Tropical tacos. The mango salsa is addicting, and the excess that falls off can always be scooped up with the included chips. On that note, of variety of meals we got (burritos, tacos, quesadillas) they all seems to fall apart at some point. Not a huge deal, your burrito just becomes sort of a rice bowl halfway through. This is one of my favorites because they have some of the most tender meats that they pull/shred there in front of you. I love the location there on corner of 59th & Union Hills. I have been a big fan of Cafe Rhumba since my first visit. This is a great example of a restaurant with a somewhat limited menu - but consistent taste and quality across the board. I've tried a variety of different items and have never been disappointed. If you are a newbie, here are three suggestions to start: 1. The Rhumba Burrito: Can't go wrong here. It's the signature pork, chicken or steak on a flour tortilla where you choose the fixin's. The pork is a personal favorite, it's always moist (unlike a lot of those other burrito places) and flavorful. The ingredients are fresh and served just the way you like them. Be sure to try the tomatillo salsa. If you're looking for something different, ask for a side of "Baja Sauce" a ranchy-style light jalepeno dressing for a little kick. It's not football-sized but it's pretty big and filling for most. 2. The Rhumba BBQ Chicken Pizza: Unless you have a big appetite, this pizza serves two. It's basically two cheese crisps, filled with fresh shredded chicken, onions, cilantro and tomatoes and a rich and spicy Chipotle BBQ sauce. It's just a little spicy without being overpowering. Great flavors all around. Just like regular pizza, it also tastes great the next day, so if you can't finish it, just take it home! 3. The Rhumba Salad: A fresh flour tortilla holds a bed of fresh greens and your choice of pork, chicken or beef. I usually add rice, corn, pico along with the cheese and tortilla strips. For dressing, I like the roasted tomatillo to really bring out the flavor of the meat without overpowering it. Plus, when you're done, you can eat the bowl. Well, you can eat the fresh tortilla anyway. It's a big salad but you'll be surprised at how fast you devour it. I am not a salad guy by any means but I love this salad - and I can eat a little more than usual because it's pretty healthy. Alcohol is available or you can go with an assortment of bottled or fountain drinks. For us, the service is always great, with a little interaction with the staff who is creating your meal to order. The atmosphere isn't fancy but it is definitely family friendly, so feel free to bring the kids. If it's cool, grab a bite on the outdoor patio or dine inside. Your call. It's not really fast food but like the saying goes, more "good food served quickly". I think another reviewer's description of something between Chipotle and Bajio is right on. If you're thinking of giving Cafe Rhumba a try, go for lunch and get the lunch special - usually a small Rhumba burrito, drink and "rhumba fries" which are deep fried tortilla crisps coated in cinnamon sugar. It's a nice sized meal to get you through the day without needing a nap afterward. And the combo price is always nice. The food is good enough, but the prices are high for the amount of food received. I can go to a good Mexican food restaurant during lunch that employs a lot more employees and has a huge building to pay on and maintain (much more overhead) and get similar prices, more food AND chips and salsa, and get waited on too. I don't like that their menu prices online are different than the prices when you arrive. Not good business. I expect to pay the price I see online when I arrive on the SAME DAY, not more! If the prices were less, I would probably return. Spending almost $20 for four tacos (two tacos per adult with a very small portion of rice and beans) with water as drinks and a kid's meal is way too much for the experience!! read more
