Been waiting to try this place since it opened, especially that you dont see too many BYOB places anymore. I have to say though, a little dissapointed. The service was decent for a non busy night. Wait staff was knowledgable but the bus boys were too agressive and all over/around us. The food was not what I expected. The taste went from really salted salads to subpar rissoto and dull tasting pasta. Nothing tasted right and all four of our plates had a complaint. It was really hard to have something good to say about the dishes. Last but not least was the price. Absurd. We are not in Manhattan nor a sushi house, heck not even in Huntington. The service and chef should compliment the price and we felt a bit cheated. We have no problem paying for good food, this was just not it. Oh yeah, the dessert was decent. My wife and I had eaten in Cafe Red prior and enjoyed it. A few weeks ago my wife called on a Monday for Friday reservations at 6:30 for six. We're an older group and several have hearing issues. She requested the round corner table for six and was assured it was available and it was ours. My wife and I arrived at 6:20 .As we entered another group was being shown to our table.We were seated at a very small table in the middle. The young man was told we were assured the round table, he stated ,well it's taken. When our full party arrived a waiter tried to push a smaller table to join ours as our party did not fit. This rude young man came over and told him to put the table back. We ended up staying but all were very aggravated and our dinner was ruined. If your restaurant can't even accept and secure reservations why would anyone bother making them or going there ? Never again. read more

Just left this place. Been here before. Used to be decent. Just had Sunday Brunch. Ordered "Crab Cake avacado Benedict" for $18 each for my wife and I. Truly awful. It was a poached egg... on a raw english muffin... with obviously instant packet hollandaise.... that was it... with a crab cake on the other side of the plate.... hahahaha.... and the brown avocado across the plate the other way. I guess it was a "build it yourself" Benedict? It stunk. The crab cake, my favorite food, was terrible. And the wild thing is... the bill for this horrible brunch was $107.... Just had a wonderful time at this very cozy spot. Went with a large group of fifteen people and they accommodated us beautifully. The food was really good. I highly recommend the bbq rib appetizer. The staff was wonderful. With such a large group we were all served at the same time and the food was great and served hot- which is tough when so many plates come out at the same time. Fried calamari was a little tough but the good sauce made up for that. Our chicken dinners were good except shrimp scampi was horrendous. I think the shrimp were very old, left out or microwaved after frozen. Three of us tried it and couldn't stomach even finishing half of one shrimp. Waitress took the plate away after we told her and she didn't even comp the $28 dish. The waitress even told us she advised the kitchen staff of the taste. It's been almost three hours now and I still have this terrible taste in my mouth and my daughters stomach is in knots! read more

I was here for a rehearsal dinner last night. Besides the warm and welcoming atmosphere, one of the first things I noticed was the rustic bread waiting on the table. When I got some wine, the general manager recommended a glass of the Rioja, and it was good. I enjoyed my food, but what really impressed me was the great staff. Went for a romantic dinner. The service was friendly and attentive. The thing about this place is that to me it had the wrong name. . It's pretty much an Italian food menu. However, we ordered on the edges of that by getting the short ribs, osso bucco veal, and vegetable puree soup, and a salad with beets and asparagus . The meat was tender-no real complaints about the dishes-but nothing I will have to run back to have again either. Another thing that surprised me-it looks from the outside that it would have better ambience. It's too bright and packed with basic decor-it would benefit from a redesign. This a very nice find. Staff is very friendly and you can have a nice cocktail before you sit down to dinner. If they have the eggplant caponata , make sure you slather some on that wonderful bread. We had beautifully prepared salads and the entrees were excellent. We were simply too stuffed for dessert. Definitely will be back to try those out. enjoy! read more

I've eaten here many times and it never disappoints. Small family run, not a food factory where they nuke everything. The service is great, the manager remembered us on our third visit ( each visit was about a month apart!). The bread and eggplant spread they put on the table is delicious. Stopped in here last night for an early dinner. Price fix was being offered, not really that big of a selection.....I opted for regular menu, friend went price fix route. Caesar salad was ok, no anchovies. I kinda like a little chovy flavor.....not the best not the worst caesar. Friend had lentil soup, liked it. Mains: They had seabass puttanesca.....enjoyed it. I ordered the short ribs. Cooked perfectly, melted in mouth, just very bland. Sauce was nice, mashed potatoes were bland and not creamy at all. Mixed veg was good, but cauliflower tasted funny. Phenomenal restaurant! My fiancee and I went in for a Sunday lunch. The service was great, the prices were very reasonable (since it was lunch), and the food was outstanding! ALL fresh pasta. My fiancee had fresh fettuccine with a homemade tomato sauce and veal meatballs. It was out of this world. I had a pulled beef short rib sandwich with fontina, with a delicious Cabernet reduction sauce. It was spectacular! It needed the tiniest amount of salt, but that is my only criticism. Even the jasmine rice was great. Cooked perfectly, seasoned well, and delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant, especially for lunch when the prices are cheaper. Arriived on time for 730 reservation Saturday night, didn't get seated till 815. We went there specifically for restaurant week. My party of 4 was excited at the menu we looked at before arriving. When menues came there was no restaurant week menu,I asked waitress for it and was told it ended at 7, when I showed her on my phone the menu and that it didn't have any restrictions like all the other restaurants I was told "yeah it isn't on there but that's our policy" classic bait and switch, put a negative mood to the evening. Delicious, creamy mozzarella wrapped around even more deliciousness. Hay and Straw pasta is also a win. They will frequently offer lamb and, if you like lamb, it's wonderful. Try the gelato sampler for dessert. It's 3 scoops of interesting flavors, among them Nougat and Blueberry. Many times Chef will deliver your dish and he's happy to chat for a moment.
