The weird thing is that I have very nearly nothing to compare this place to insofar as I am not British and don't have a clue as to what passes for good or bad food here. I know that there was something listed as an "American Breakfast" on the menu which was really fun, because it was... kind of like the breakfasts you find in The States, but also kind of not.
In any case, this was the very first place my brand new husband (he's not a brand new human; that would be weird... but the title "husband" is new) and I ate while in England. I ordered hash browns, unaware that my idea of hash browns falls very decidedly outside the realm of what the English think hash browns are, and it became apparent very early on that I was in for something of a steep learning curve while abroad.
I don't remember anyone here being particularly friendly, but neither were they unfriendly. Also, this may be a case of a difference in culture. Firstly, servers and the like work mostly for tips in America, and this definitely facilitates a culture of "fake it 'til you make it." Here it was more like "We'll come round if you need us, but otherwise won't bother you." Which, actually, I like much better. And by "here", I mean England... Not just Cafe Oz.
Dan and I didn't end up eating here again, because we weren't particularly impressed by the offerings, but it wasn't bad. I'm still glad we went. read more
