The food wasn't the greatest when visiting Cafe Opla on a Sunday morning. Our table ordered the Vietnam opla, garlic fries, tom yum shrimp toast, waffles, and an iced Vietnamese coffee + Crèm brulee. The service was there! I can tell that they certainly keep up to the standard customer service routine. Our food came out in a reasonable time, big disappointment in how they prepare their speciality entrees and appetizers. As shown on the menu, the Vietnam Opla is supposed to be served as a sunny side egg, the two eggs I received were pretty well cooked while it being served to me. I enjoyed the garlic fries, waffles, and the iced Vietnamese coffee. Another big upset, the tom yum shrimp toast... this definitely was rushed. Was it because it was peak Sunday rush and needed to get the order out to us? The appearance of the toast looked appetizing but after taking my first bite, I noticed the shrimp was raw. Our table didn't even finish it, we didn't mention anything at the time but we should have. Location is hidden but easy to find. Limited on parking, especially being next to the Marriot. We came to cafe opla to grab some brunch on a quaint Sunday morning. These were quarantine times, so we were prepared to take precautions while eating in. However, once we got inside, we saw way too many people in one sight and the air inside felt pretty stuffy. I'm sure it was safe, especially given the staff were wearing masks and sanitizing profusely. However, we decided to take food out, instead of eat in. We requested for a couple of sandwiches and a Vietnamese iced coffee. This took forever. We were waiting outside (due to said stuffiness) and had to pop back in several times to check. The takeout scene wasn't very well organized - I would have loved to get a text/call once the food was ready, or even someone shouting out my name outside. So, I ended up going in and waiting close to the take out counter, exactly what I was trying to avoid. After all this, the sandwiches were good, but didn't feel worth the looong wait. Did a nice run by the pier and decided to finally check this place out for breakfast. We went on a Sunday, around the same time as when the cruise ship just came in so the place was quite busy. It was a counter service and there was a line bit it was pretty quick moving. We got the Korean and the Philippines opla to try. The food did take a while to come out but it was definitely worth the wait. Frist, the presentation was definitely pretty and instagramable and the portion was perfect for breakfast. Each dish came with a small baguette and btwo eggs. The philippines dish came with the meatballs, longonesa sausage and tomatoes. My friend, who was actually Filipino said the dish definitely reminded him of home. The sausage and meatballs was on the sweet side but it went well. The Korean dish came with some short ribs, tofu and Kim chi. Again, I can see the components of a Korean dish and everything was cooked perfectly. However, what got me was the egg. Man those eggs were good. They were still partially runny and was perfect dipping sauce for the bread and it was season right. The bread was also fluffy and toasted to the right level. Overall, price was good, portion was good, and service was standard and I will definitely come back here. read more

The breakfast was excellent! This restaurant is a blend of French and Vietnamese styled breakfast. Each opla comes with a fried egg. My husband and I both got different oplas and tried each other's; you really can't go wrong with anything there. The food was tasty and the flavors were rich. We both added sriracha to add some heat, which was at the table. We also tried some of their Vietnamese Iced Coffee and it was also delicious! It's the perfect blend of sweet and dark roasted coffee. I highly recommend trying out this breakfast place as a nice change of place from the more "typical" eggs and potatoes breakfast books. read more

When you walk in, you're greeted by a small counter, seating for about 20 people and some pictures of the options on the wall. Everything looks incredibly advertising and I'm happy to report the actual food matched the The picturesque expectations! They have half a dozen different options which are all variations on the meat or accompanying protein. We tried the Vietnamese version which included eggs, grilled pork, meatballs and some pickled veggies. Everything is served with a really delicious baguette and by the time we were done, we were all planning on how we could try another one! Different variations include, as expected, different meats and veggies from different regions of the world. They also serve Bahn Mi, which I'm excited to go back and try for lunch someday! Came with a small olive oil/pepper sauce for the bread. The dish looked amazing. It was super hot which was good, the bread was smaller than expected but at the end I was full. It's a small spot, located on north end of the Seattle waterfront. It could be easy to miss since it's past the main hotspots on the waterfront drag, but that's even more reason to pay Cafe Opla a visit!!! There's street parking, unless you're picking up to-go, then there's a 20 minute spot. Of course, if you're staying at the Marriott, or if you're coming from the Olympic Sculpture park, then just walk on over, this a great place to grab a bite! Anyway we came this past Saturday, after the lunch crowd, and I'm glad we did, it wasn't super busy. The menu is above the cashier, you pick your food of choice - they have a pretty diverse selection - Opla Vietnam, China, Korea, Philippines, Hawaiian, American, etc.. , banh mi sandwiches and coffee and other beverages. And at very affordable prices, items were under $10, of course with add-ons it can go above $10, but not by much. All the Opla's come on a cast iron skillet - so DO NOT TOUCH - it's hot! And is also comes with a toasted baguette with a selections of sauces. We picked the Opla Korea and Opla Philippines with the chimi sauce and spicy sate sauce. The toasted baguetted was really tasty (I know - bread that's tasty?) - good texture, it's not going to scrape the roof of your mouth, and we really enjoyed the spicy sate sauce more so than the chimi sauce. I had the Opla Korea -which had short ribs, tofu, kimchee and cucumber ban chan, and 2 perfectly sunny-side up eggs. The meal was quite filling and the marination was really done well (salty and sweet), even the tofu was flavorful!!! I only wish they could add rice (garlic fried rice or steamed) as an option. Staff are EXTREMELY helpful in making recommendations and explaining the dishes. In fact, this place reminds me of going to a cafe back home! Great selection, and great staff make for a really good eating experience!!! So if you're in the Seattle Waterfront area and want a different take on breakfast food, put Cafe Opla on your list! I came on the second day of this place opening. For being newly open, operations ran very well. I do think this place would probably be much busier during weekdays when it is a workday for offices above. They have 20 min parking right in front of you just want to grab and go. I would describe this place as a coffee shop with the option to also have breakfast/brunch. The food options are around the idea of sunny side up eggs w/ baguette (like the ones you get in Vietnamese sandwiches) with other accompaniments depending on which plate you order. We ordered the Opla Japan and Hawaii. The best thing about the dishes are how well flavored the items were and the sauces that came with it! The shredded pork in Hawaii and the lemongrass tofu and chicken katsu in Japan were delicious. I also loved the chimichurri sauce which was made in house. Dishes were $10 each. It's not a ton of food like when you eat out at brunch spots, but they also don't cost $15+. Wanted to check this place out due to some of the reviews. But I would agree with a lot of the reviews saying it's pretty tasty. But! I also agree w some of the reviews saying the size (portions) is so not worth the money. $8 or almost $9 for a really small pan of food. It looks big in pictures but the portions are kind of disappointing. I had the mini size of the Opla Korean and the kalbi had barely anything on it. No meat, barely! How sad. For the prices we pay, there should be a fulfillment in portion. Or maybe I'm used to eating something that's worth the pay.
