The low-key appearance belies the exquisite cuisine served here. Though portions are modest in size, the dishes are enormously tasty and frequently quite original. Reservations are recommended and can be challenging to obtain. Staff are friendly and helpful. Dishes are presented and there is a presumption that they will be shared as extra plates are provided. We enjoyed the octopus and oyster stew, the mutton steak, roast quail and the rigatoni entrees . The spicy mutton broth appetizer and a Butterscotch dessert completed our dinner menu. Everything was flavorful.

Everything we had for brunch was so good!! The chip omelette was unique and delicious, and the bologna sandwich was simple yet tasty. For dessert, the sticky bun is a must try and I also really enjoyed the crepes that weren't overly sweet and had a dash of salt (maybe from the butter?) which perfectly balanced out the flavors. - @nyconthetable

This is the sort of cafe whose menu is so straight forward you gotta stare at it for like ten minutes before you can comprehend what it is they're offering you. Because it'll be like some UK pub-ass offerings like "fried bologna sandwich" or "rice porridge" or "cheddar & onion sandwich" and you're like okay, I see this and I get it but it is like $15 so obviously its a bit more than JUST that. But then you order and it is just that but also the best possible version of that? Are you still with me??? Like I had this porridge here that was like... amazing. And I don't remember exactly what it was called but it had like bits of slow cooked pork and sauces and oranges!? and an egg and it was straight forward and warm and delicious and homey and nostalgic and other worldly. I don't know. I DONT KNOW. Then they let me try a sample of the celery soda cause I was loudly saying how I was too scared of it and even THAT shit was great. Like, what!? I dont even like normal celery but here I am drinking this like, salty refreshingly weird beverage that somehow tastes so much better than it sounds. But maybe THAT's the key to this whole menu? Things like "scrapple & eggs" but then you actually try and it you're like "oh fck, OFFAL man shit who knew." Or maybe I'm just over complicating what is simply a unique and intriguing place that, for me, wins the award for most radiators I've ever seen lining a wall.

Hipster brunch done extremely well. I honestly can't complain about anything when I am enjoying lunch with the soothing tunes of Notorious BIG playing in the background. Seriously, this place is a vibe. Scrapple, Bologna Sandwich, Country Patê. Honestly, we had to fight over what we wanted to order. Everything sounded delish, simple yet unique. We made great decisions on what to order. The scrapple was good! It was my first time trying it. It was definitely more bready that I expected, the flavor was nice, and the eggs and potatoes were a great pairing. The Bologna sandwich was simply delicious. Perfectly fried bologna made for a decadent treat. The pate on soft white bread was outstanding. Creamy, unctuous, I wish I had another right now. All the dishes were perfectly balanced, perfect bites. This spot is great, highly recommend!

The thing that blew me away is the beauty of the menu and people. Everything on the menu works together and against itself. Somehow on 1 menu there is pate, porridge, pasta, bologna, a $15 shrimp, foie gras, and a cocktail with the word poo in it. It's like the rest of Hudson- a group of people doing whatever makes them happy and it's great. We went here twice in 18 hours. The menu changed - somehow The decor is quirky, the staff is friendly and answered everyone of my questions, the food is decadent and incredibly well executed The kitchen is exposed - and silent. Somehow through a lunch rush and brunch rush everything was spot on and not a single shout from the kitchen - perfectly orchestrated. The bologna sandwich - velvety and decadent. Only a few ingredients - but well thought out. Couldn't be made any better. The friggen crepe - fluffy and flat at the same time. Beautiful flavor - maybe buttermilk? Some other acid? Charred and barely cooked at the same time. Makes no sense The tartare - incredibly flavorful with some crunchy bits of celery? or something. The bread was just very toasted white bread. Simple and perfect The porridge - modeled as a congee with flavorful chili oil and a barely poached egg Teccione pasta - mushrooms and chives in a thin butter sauce - so rich but still light

Mind you, the sweet spot to arrive today seemed to be heathen hour of 11am. I pray at my meal to beat the church crowd. Great service that was attentive to cues and able to move tables without huge pressure. But Y'ALL! The food was absolutely no joke. I see why they have been on the radar to win awards. Deservedly the tomato and mayo sandwich on a locally sourced sourdough bread toasted with salted butter will be the only way that I now have the sandwich moving forward. But porridge. I didn't know it could be a savory delight with a poached egg and chili spices for an Asian slant to the dish. They have ruined me. Ruined. i will be back.

How unique! We arrived on a Saturday morning right at 10am and there was already a line. I suggest coming a little before 10am right now to ensure you get a seat inside. You order first and then the staff find you a seat. Don't be the person trying to save a seat bc they will tell you its order first and then you get a seat. We ordered their buckwheat scone with butter and jam (cherry tomatillo!!), which I really enjoyed. The scone's flakiness was perfect and I enjoyed how different it was from an ordinary scone. We also got their pate sandwich which came with mustard and pickles. Very yummy and a good chunk of pate. The special we ordered was their pork sausage with sweet potatoes, a poached egg and sunchoke (Jerusalem artichoke). The pork sausage was so tender, the sweet potatoes caramelized and roasted well, and the sunchoke was yummy! It reminded me of the mysterious grey stuff in Disney movies lol. We would definitely come back to try more things! The waitstaff was organized and friendly too.

Went to Cafe Mutton for breakfast yesterday. I haven't been there since they've started table service and it was very pleasant. We got there a little after it opened. We were greeted at the door and seated with menus. The special was a beef sausage, fingerling potatoes and 2 eggs with jalapeño butter. It was delicious. The beef sausage was reminiscent of a bologna and the jalapeño butter was a good accompaniment to the creamy potatoes. I had a taste of the scrapple on toast and it was very good. It was definitely homemade and had a homemade corned beef hash texture. Went great with the sunny side eggs. We started with a fresh cinnamon bun which was still warm from the oven. It went well with the cold brew. The atmosphere was very honey and non-rushed. A couple of tables had just a single person sitting there enjoying their breakfast and reading. Very comfortable feel.

I'd been wanting to try this cafe for a while and was happy when I finally made it there during a recent trip to Hudson. The space is very cute, nicely decorated, unpretentious, and cozy. We ordered a couple of the specials they had that day, the country pate sandwich, and the sticky bun. Everything was so delicious! Simple yet flavorful and very well executed. Seasonal ingredients truly shine here. The sticky bun was a nice way to end our meal - super fluffy and caramelly but not too sweet. Service was friendly and attentive. I cannot wait to come back!

This has to be the best omelette I've ever had: the mushroom and raclette omelette is amazing. The sticky bun is huge and also amazingly chewy and sweet. Cool place with good music and nice servers.

Absolutely loved or meals. We started it all off with a HUGE pecan sticky bun that was exactly what it should taste like. The kids thought the Crepes were perfection. I had the fried bologna sandwich which was elevated to perfection. My brother had the Scrapple & Eggs. He loved it. My wife had the Pice Porridge w/ chili crisp, scallions & a poached egg.

I booked marked this place after reading about it in the NYT. I'm so glad I did. We took a side trip on our way from down from Albany. At 11am on a Sunday, there was a long line. I think it took about 40 minutes to order. We went with the pate sandwich and salad of the day with radicchio, daikon, bread crumbs, and anchovy dressing. We got the food to go and only took about 15 minutes. While waiting, I walked around and found a chocolate shop and bought a few items there. Once we go our food, we took it to a nearby light house and sat and ate. We were floored at how good it was. There was a good amount of pate in sandwich with mustard and cornishon. For me the salad was even better with pretty purple crispy veggies and a flavorful dressing. I wish I lived closer!

Hi! Is there outdoor seating/can we bring our pups?

Yes, I had the same question since we had our dog with us. We were able to seat at one of the two tables they had set up outside when we visited earlier this season.

Incredibly bummed, especially seeing all the positive press around the quality and the sourcing…read morethey claim to approach business with, that quite a lot of the food being served was from SYSCO or another large similar restaurant supply vendor, ordered by the case and baked from frozen. Now first off, don't get me wrong, buying in bulk or sacrificing the quality of some ingredients to large suppliers like this is definitely a reality when running a restaurant. Even moreso in this day and age when ingredient prices are exorbitant. That said, it needs to be reflected in the price point. Pastries are arranged beautifully under cloches in the display case, but I could spot the premade, ready-to-bake spinach feta bistro (https://www.chefswarehouse.com/products/QZ119984/) or ham and cheese croissant (https://www.chefswarehouse.com/products/99971/) from a mile away. The avocado spread on the preassembled breakfast sandwiches is definitely the pulp from the 3lb bag from Chef's Warehouse too. I know that taste! All of that said, they had a few items in the case that I'm sure weren't from one of these big vendors. Which was great to see. My (yes, unsolicited!) advice would be to pare down the menu. Offer just a bit less so you can focus on the quality. Try and tap into some local producers if you can! That's one of the best things about the Hudson Valley... how much all the purveyors and markets and cafes support each other. It's clear too how much they care about the community. They're dog friendly inside. No WiFi to encourage people to chat with one another. Fine. I really want to see this place continue to thrive, it's just a bit of a bummer that a significant part of the menu including things that really should be fresh, aren't.
