Solid beer selection. Lots of craft and local options. I picked up a four pack of a kolsch from Mill House based in Poughkeepsie, NY.

They have a ton of beer and are the only decent place to get craft beer in the area. People were nice who worked there.

If it were just about the beer this place would be great but when they ask your 3 black friends to show ID but you (white) are fine (and we're all 26)...something is pretty fishy. Don't cite NY state law for your racism, then I would have been required to show mine as well. read more

On a recent trip to the area I decided I wanted to find a place that offered a make-your-own 6 pack deal as I can't find places that do this in NYC, but there are several around every time my wife and I go up to Maine to see her parents. When I saw Peter's review below, I knew I had to check it out. It sounds like Beer World has a ton of other cool stuff, but we were short on time and so we just picked out three singles each from the display near the front of the store. Fair variety offered. Many common/big name brand beers, but if you look through the selection, you're bound to find some oddballs you've yet to try. I like the randomness and the chaos of this system. Pulled in here on a total whim while driving to Hunter Mountain a few months back. I figured any place called Beer World would (or should) have an impressive selection of craft brews and I was right. My husband and I love Bell's Brewing, especially their Expedition stout that comes out in fall/winter, and it's something we can't get in Connecticut. While ogling the huge, expansive aisles filled top-to-bottom with libations, I zeroed in and snagged the last couple six packs of Expedition. So amped about this! I was going to try to track down a well-stocked beer-centric liquor store while in the area, but I'm glad I found Beer World by chance. A good sized store with many offerings to pick from. We came by just for the create your own 6 packs. (My husband loves trying new things, but not by the 6 pack amounts they sell in.) We didn't wander around since we were driving back to NYC the next day and mostly wanted the create your own option. Friendly staff. I have been to a good deal of stores like this (my dad was a home brewer who taught me much) and it seemed very run of the mill to me. read more

I am loving Beer world! As my friend Scott said while we walked around, "There is a Sh-t ton of beer here!" and he was right. They had everything. All domestics, every micro brew you could think of and some you could not. They had a Coors Light chair that we wanted and guess what? You could have it! (For the low low price of $2000.00) Now here is where the 4 stars comes from. They have a beer cavern or cave or something. It was a walk in cooler bigger than my house. It was huge!! Full of cold cases and kegs of whatever you want. This place rocked! Until! I realized there was a beer universe in the next town. Wonder what that place looks like. read more

Discriminating and racist. I inquired about a job because their sign said looking for stocker etc only for them to tell me they're not hiring. I found it odd that he still had hiring signs all over the store and little to no employees. All the employees are Hindu mind you and he refused to even take my application being more than qualified for the job. Stay away from this hateful discriminating place. read more

Absolutely love the selection of beers here. There is something for everyone and enjoy that beers are sectioned by location. Finding local NY beers is never a problem and they regularly bring in new brands. Staff is pretty great about helping you find something that suits your current tastes with great recommendations. Went in to buy some harder to find beers I cant get where I live...oh cool Firestone Walker Sucaba(a favorite),cool Goose Island Bourbon County barleywine, even better i thought....But wait nope, sign on shelf indicates "that you have to buy either a 4-pack or 6-pack" of said brewery in order to buy the particular beer that you want (ex. FW Sucaba + 4 or 6-pack). I have never seen a grift like that before,they aren't trying to "support" the brewery (FW and GI certainly don't need it), they are just full on ripping off the customer. Truly offensive, make the extra drive to Halftime in Poughkeepsie if you want to be treated not like a clueless dummy. PROS: good selection (certainly have seen better) CONS: everything stated above, and their prices are $2-$5 more than EVERYWHERE else (certainly not surprised there). Just go to Halftime. read more

Watch out for skunked beer, they refuse to give you your money back or exchange. Happened to me a few times. I am never going there again.

Whenever a place carries craft beer I have to support it. When this place opened I was nervous it wouldn't last. This is a Genny and Bud light area. That being said you have to be discerning. I expect that there is beer that's been sitting on the shelf for a while. I go for the ones that I know move or buy a growler that I can sample first. Hopefully people will change there taste and this place will be appreciated more. read more

Sweet merciful boozy Jebus, this place is amazing. Three long aisles of craft & microbrew beers, specialties from around the world and everyday cheapo standards. A sizeable walk-in cooler called the "Beer Cave." A big selection of tobacco and related products. Friendly staff who told us that they could order whatever we wanted. Great selection of beers, good seasonal rotations and beers on tap for growler fills. They have a nice selection of gluten free beers and real hard ciders (French pommeau, cask aged regional non-sugared ciders) and the walk-in has a decent smattering of six packs and cases. Only gripe is that not everything is labeled with price so you have to ask, otherwise caveat emptor, you may end up with something pricey. read more

This beer store is an exemplary business in selection, service, and management. It is always clean, tidy even on restocking days, and reasonably organized according to category of beer. The two men who are always there are friendly, helpful and accommodating. They have gone out of their way to make sure I can get what I want from their store, and are always ready with smiles and pleasant demeanors. They are serious about providing as many types of beer, to as many types of customer as they can, as evidenced by their incredible, varied stock, their willingness to order something you want that may not be on their shelf already, and their positive attitudes to customers of all sorts. I seldom write reviews but am compelled to follow through on this one. Three weeks ago we had a party at the house. Wanted to get a 1/6 keg of a high end craft beer along with a good selection of craft beers in cans and bottles. I visited Beer World and spoke with the owner (KP) a few times prior and decided to go them as my suppler despite having a uneasy feeling about this all happening without a hitch......seemed to be a lot of contradictory answers to my same questions over the few visits. On party day we picked up the keg and a tap and bought a considerable amount of cans and bottle beer to the tune of a few hundred dollars. Got the keg home and tapped it as the party began only to find it could not be shut off. Lots of discussion around the keg and consensus option was the tap was faulty (wore out) the only way it could be shut off was to take the pressure off the keg. All in all we probably lost 1 gallon of beer and made for a real cumbersome pour. Tried renting a tap from a very local beer store (Beer World is 14 miles away) but the tap did not fit the keg. With the party in full swing, I called KP to see in he could send someone to the house with a new tap. He said he could not as he was the only one in the store. I asked if would try to find someone and he said he would and call back. He never called. Monday I returned the keg and bottles and cans. I was not going to make a issue of the faulty tap but was determined to mention it and see where it would go. He basically ignored the issue, just a blank stare. Brought it up again...same thing...to the point of becoming uncomfortable. I decided to let it go and moved on to returning the 151 bottles and cans ( I had bought from him on Saturday). He said I need to go to bottle return. Meeting the bottle return guy, he was not happy that they were all in one bag...said they were "co mingled"...? A discussion ensued again with the owner KP. Again he was of no help...Just stood there. Now I'm fed up. Grabbed my bag of cans and said I had enough...I'd go elsewhere to another beer store that treats if customers with respect and has no can/bottle return hassles. He seemed please that I would return my cans elsewhere. It dawned on me that He would profit the return money if i did this. As for the tap, all I wanted was a gesture of good faith to balance my loss and hassle.....a so sorry...a go pick out a 12 pack less than $20 for your troubles...something. I got nothing. This place is all about the money first and foremost and customer satisfaction is a way way distant second. There are other options around......I gave them a chance....I WILL NEVER, NEVER RETURN. read more

I've been a customer since the store opened. I liked the front end staff and the selection. However, the recycle staff always acted like it was such an inconvenience to take the bottles back. They never made an effort to unlock the back door, help unload or even hold the door open while you tried to maneuver the door with the cart.. Every time I brought in hard cider bottles (no deposit) with the other deposit bottles, they would rudely inform me there was no deposit. Today they were not going to accept the hard cider bottles and have me put them back in my car. It is not the customers' fault that the NY state has screwy rules for deposits on bottles. If they sell the product, it should be the store and distributors concern to get them recycled. Unfortunately, I have had enough of the nonsense and am breaking up with this store. read more

Great selection, but NOT a discount beverage store by any means. Much more expensive than Rite Aid and Walmart for the regular stuff. Unless I need something exotic, no need for the extra stop. They always insist on carrying your stuff out and makes you feel weird like you need to tip or something. Shopping carts are too small. Flat beds too big. read more
