The new management of Hudson Wine Merchants is not community-minded like its founders. Example: They made their staff whine before the SLA to oppose a liquor license for a new shop which would have been located miles and miles outside of Hudson--claiming that it would cause too much competition for them. Absolutely ridiculous: HWM is a high-end niche business based on Warren Street's fancy clientele. A liquor store across from a gas station two towns away, selling Wild Turkey and Popov, was no threat to HWM. I was a regular when Michael and Marianne owned HWM, but I'll never spend another penny thete because of this petty behavior against a great Livingston family. read more

Cool store with a great and unique collection of wine and spirits. Also, friendly staff to help with any questions you might have.

Classy and spendy wine, we felt a bit underdressed asking if they had anything in the $10 to $12 range. Prices here are clearly marked at the $30 and up. There's more expensive than that, too. The gent who was here was still polite and absolutely not condescending and still very helpful to find something in our cheap plonk range. They also sell a few spirits but only the very higher end stuff. You won't find Captain Morgan here, for example. Street parking. [Review 11497 overall, 1277 of 2019.] read more

Went upstate and found this cute wine shop. We asked the young lady who was actually super nice and cheerful about any good local wines that's worth taking home she recommended the 2019 Hudson Chatham. We tried it and it was in agreement the worst wine we have ever tasted. It's sharp, water-down taste and sour. Did she sell this to clear stock or she really think this is delicious? Urgh! read more

Hudson Wine Merchants - Worst wine ever and was recommended by the staff... Have they tasted this? - Beer, Wine & Spirits Near Me - Hudson, New York

Absolutely adore this shop. I've visited Hudson a few times and each time I stop in there's a happy and helpful staffer who greets me and proceeds to make wonderful recommendations on whatever it is I'm looking for. Their selection and prices are excellent and, as a bonus, they have a free tracking system for customers so they/you can look back at your wine purchases and remember what it was you liked and didn't like. I only wish I lived in Hudson so I could frequent this place more often! read more

This is the best wine store around. Michael the store owner is incredibly knowledgable, helpful, and will help you pick out the perfect wine without up selling you. The staff are extremely detailed, helpful, and know their wines too. Do you need a few cases delivered to your apartment in NYC? No problem.. I love the wine tastings and buying wine here. read more

Decent selection, but overpriced. Bought a white Chenin for 30 that averages 20 on Vivino and a Montepulciano for 14 that averages for 9. read more

Great little place. Does not have the big name brands but does have some great substitutes. Owner steered me towards another wine that was just as good. We will be back next time we are in the area. read more

This place is by far the best Wine Shop I have ever been to.. Michael, the owner, is the most passionate and knowledgeable person I have come across.. The guy is an encyclopedia.. I first met Michael in this little town of Hudson two or three years ago.. I walked into the wine store and asked him to help me discover white wines.. He was able to describe to me the different varietals, the differences between regions, producers, years, and terrior.. The guy knows everything.. He has wines that will cost you 10 bucks up to whatever you are looking for.. I live in Manhattan and take advantage of his free delivery to NYC on certain days of the week.. Not because he has wines that no one else has, though he does, its because even pairs wines for my dinner parties.. I am a professional cook and when I had my restaurant, he did my wine pairings at my place.. Not to mention he does several of the wine programs for restaurants around NYC. I know this reads like some informercial but, I am not related to this guy, He is really the best at his job and he deserves the props.. Seriously, this is in my opinion the best wine shop in the country... read more

One of all time favorite Wine stores Just tell Michael, the owner, what you like (a label or a taste profile) and what you want to spend and he'll pick something for you that's new, exciting, and will expand your palate. There's also a special room of rarities and reserves that I could spend all day in! There also carry some interesting and different spirits and liqueurs. They deliver, they have a wine club, they have tastings and special industry guests... It's all here read more

Always such a nice experience whenever I pop in here for a bottle of bubbly. The staff are just the sweetest, and there is always a great selection in an otherwise wine desert area. read more

Hudson Wine Merchants - The very prett my dining room! - Beer, Wine & Spirits Near Me - Hudson, New York

Friendly service and I was recommended a great bottle of wine. I remember it fondly and it was months ago.

I was recently in town visiting a friend and having lunch, and as I needed quality booze for an upcoming event, I decided to stop by Hudson Wine Merchants to kill two birds with one stone. What a great decision! I have purchased the odd bottle of wine here in the past, but although I frequent Hudson for business and seeing friends, I live near a great family owned wine shop in Niskayuna, which is my usual spot. I must say that I have made a formal decision to buy specialty libations here from now on, regardless of distance. I think the woman I spoke to was the owner, and I let her know that I wanted to have a tasting of different bubblies for this event. I also let her know that I wanted some unique bottles because we would also be comparing with the usual suspects, and pairing them all with food. She was right on the money with every suggestion--some cava, some Portuguese sparkling, some small batch unfiltered bubbles, all dry and no sweet slag. Every bottle was interesting in its own right and I would buy every one of them again. The owner was friendly and unpretentious, especially for a wine person. We kept each bottle under $30, which was amazing. I've never seen such an eclectic yet affordable collection of wines as in this shop. To top it off, the other staff was lovely and after paying my bill, the cashier carried the lot out to my car. Bravo, Hudson Wine Merchants, excellent work--you have a friend for life! read more

This is the place to go when seeking fine wine and spirits on Warren Street. Michael, Jessica, and the rest of the crew do a great job. The selection is great and there's always a someone knowledgeable to help! read more

What a great shop. Passionate Michael and Marianne the owners are on their game always. I'd buy wine here before I'd ever walk into an NYC wine store. It's the only real wine shop in Columbia or Dutchess counties/most likely all the way to Canada. read more

The place is inviting and cozy, I walked in not knowing what I was looking for and the staff, eager to help me guided me to a nice little assortment which I couldn't be happier with. The wine that they carry aren't common in the area, and the knowledge that the employees exhibit is superb. I highly recommend this place over any wine shop within 100 miles. read more

I am new to wine and so far love presecco and most reds. One of the sales girls recommended a Cava and a sparkling red. The Cava was not bad but I prefer presecco. Now the red....was amazing. My husband is not big on wine but also enjoyed it. I have the name posted on my fridge so I can pick up another bottle. read more

Salesperson (may be the owner) recommended a sparkling wine, and it was disgusting. Didn't realized that it was actually RED until we got home. Of course he didn't even mention that its RED at the store. Honestly, no self-respecting wine owner would ever recommend a sparkling RED wine to anyone! So, tourist beware... Pick your own stuff here if you do decide on getting anything. Otherwise they'd sell you stuff they can't get rid of. And then as soon as you paid, they kept saying "bye bye now" so you can get out of the way. So rude! read more

Wow. Spent an incredible day in Hudson with my mother and stopped in here between strolling the streets window shopping and dinner at Daba. Came in on the recommendation of Shauna Lee up the street. I have never seen such a selection of fun, obscure wines and varieties to date. I live in NYC and have yet to discover such enthusiastic, helpful people. I have looked high and low for a particular sparkling spanish white we purchased here and cannot find it. Also, the Australian Vermentino was excellent. Prices are incredibly reasonable. I will be taking advantage of their free delivery to NYC on certain days of the week and hope to be back in the store soon. What a lovely shop indeed! read more

Great wine store, with an excellent selection of small vineyards and hard-to-find bottles at reasonable prices. The staff is super knowledgeable and will recommend you a good bottle, probably something you haven't tried before but will fall in love with. Definitely worth a visit. read more

Pick some wine here, huge selection very nice stuff i never seem before and good old classics.

We love Michael and Hudson Wine Merchants. We live in Tivoli which is about 30 minutes south of Hudson, NY and I can tell you it's worth a drive. Michael knows a lot about wine and shares his expertise in a friendly, down to earth way. They've got a good inventory, but the real magic is Michael's ability to help you find a great bottle of wine. I've never been to a better wine shop anywhere. In fact, I've been to very few retail stores in any category this pleasant to do business with. read more

Hudson Wine Merchants is the best. Superior selection and flawless advice.

While in Hudson for a wedding I was searching for a nice wine to enjoy at our B&B. Yelp comes through big time. The store was orderly and good size. The proprietor was warm and greeted me as I entered. He asked what I was looking for and made several suggestions. He was knowledgable and accommodating. He rang me up and I asked him where I should go for some cheese and meats to pair with my wine. He suggested a shoppe right up the street "Olde Hudson" shoppe which turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. Great service and a great selection of wines. read more

Great selection. Super helpful. Not pretentious. A wine store trifecta.

Great selection at all price levels. Great service. You will leave the store more knowledgable. Wine club is excellent.

The best wine shop anywhere, yes anywhere. I live in NYC and Hudson and have bought wine around the world. The folks here are like family - Michael, Kathleen and Erin in particular take the care to get to know you on all levels and their recommendations are always GREAT. And the wine club? Best deal around. read more

A few more stars are necessary to really convey how wonderful HWM is! If you love wine, there is no shop like it. The selection is incomparable and browsing is an education in wine and an opportunity to sample some of the finest vineyards, producers and importers. Michael and his staff never fail to identify the perfect wine for any taste or occasion. Need a memorable gift for someone special? This is the place. They assembled a case as a wedding gift that delighted a recent bride and groom and stood out as one of their more original, personal and enjoyable gifts."Picking Michael's brain" is almost as enjoyable as savoring a new wine selection. read more

We used Hudson Wine Merchants to purchase our wine and alcohol for our wedding at the Hudson Basilica. They had great wines and alcohols and a great range of prices. Michael was one of our favorite vendors. He was honest, informative and very helpful in determining what and how much we needed. I did not actually purchase anything at this store, that's why my five star review is especially noteworthy. Last fall, my husband and I were crossing the street in front of Hudson Wine Merchants when I slipped (NOT their fault, it was my shoes) and we thought my ankle was broken. (Turned out to be a wicked sprain.) I found refuge at the bench in front of Hudson Wine Merchants. Not only did the kind girl working that night provide my husband ice from her own lunch box, she gave us plastic bags from the store to put it in. Due to her kindness, I was able to ice, wrap, and elevate my ankle while my husband retrieved our car. I've no doubt her quick response to help hastened my recovery and salvaged our weekend. I should add, she did all of this while continuing to help her paying customers. I will always support a business with such customer service and applaud the management that encourages it. Thank you. read more
