For French cuisine done right I highly recommend dining at Cafe Monte. Located in South Charlotte this is one of my top five French restaurants. The ambiance is amazing and give the vibes of being at a cafe in France. The colors and artwork are amazing. This was our first time trying escargot but I would definitely recommend it. This place is over rated. Food is not that good and has no flavor. I ordered the French onion soup which was just ok. The tuna melt totally sucked, for $14 no spices and came with cheap McDonald's fries. Service wasn't any better. read more

Worst French food we have experienced in Charlotte. Quiche was overdone and second attempt the bottom crust was uncooked and mushy. The skillet potato with the Classic Eggs Benedict was almost black and greasy. The second attempt brought back cold benedict and a greasy tasteless potato. We were so excited to try this place due to the reviews and it was such a disappointment. Our waiter was very nice and the manager was extremely embarrassed and kind so perhaps the chef was having a bad day but we will never be back. read more

The customer service and food was excellent. I came because I was in the area and looking for a cafe nearby to do a little work on my laptop and it turned into a whole experience. It was the cutest French cafe. I sat outdoors to enjoy the weather. The staff was very friendly and didn't make me feel rushed. The other patrons were also very friendly. I came alone but there were a lot of couples on lunch dates. Some even with pets. I couldn't finish everything I order but next time I will definitely save room for some dessert. You know, I know this is a Charlotte staple, which is why I have been avoiding going here, the experience is never as good as the real thing. SHUT UP RICK! lol It was very good and the service was excellent, we had breakfast, typical faire, the eggs cooked perfectly, thehash browns were amazing, the sausage was lack luster (if McDonalds can be exceptional for Sausage so can CM's lol). We really enjoyed this place and we will be going back to be part of the Clt Staple! To top things off one of our favorite Bar Tenders is working here now, "Brittany" so let her amaze you. I really like cafe Monte. When you have lunch or dinner here, it gives you an ambiance of being in Paris :) . I usually get the mushroom crepe because it's really good. The last time I went with a family member, I got the mushroom crepe and it lacked salt or seasoning something and wasn't that good. Other than that, I recommend this place for sure . Went to Cafe Monte for a nice Friday lunch. Had reservations and we were immediately sat. I love the French bistro feel of the restaurant. I ordered the beef short rib baguette and it was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had! The cheese and garlic aioli went perfectly with the short rib, and the baguette was awesome. My friend got the lobster crepes and they were super rich. There are many things I want to try on the menu and I can't wait to return! read more

Tonight was our first time back to Cafe Monte in a few years and I was excited to be back. My husband called the night before to make the reservation and asked for outside seating. They stated that they couldn't guarantee it. I have compromised immune system and do not eat indoors at restaurants and even before Covid, if it is nice out I won't eat at a restaurant unless I'm outside. We arrived tonight and it's a beautiful night and the tables outside are wide open so I figured we were all set. We go inside and we're told that the patio is closed for the night. They said that they could seat us at the back away from people going in & out so against my better Jude, we stayed. The food was as fantastic as I remember. I had the swordfish and my husband had the burger. It was half price cocktails from their menu. He had the Cafe Monte and I had a French cocktail. And their delicious bread!! Great service and food. So we were happy...until we walked out and there was a couple seated & being served at an outdoor table. You know, where they told us that was closed for the evening. NOT COOL!! Very cute place with very tasty food. Ordered the spinach salad, petit filet frites, lobster and crab crepe, and finished with beignet. The steak was great til the very last bite. The crepe had a bit too much going on and the white sauce drowned out some of the natural flavors so the dish got boring as I ate through it. The spinach salad is plentiful and tasty. And finally the beignet was delicious, fresh and warm. It comes with a raspberry jelly but if you can pair it with a little Nutella it takes it to another level. I had a fantastic experience getting food from this restaurant, even if it was just take out! They did a fantastic job from start to finish. Service was fantastic, with really nice and outgoing servers and hostess. The food was fantastic as well. I got the Trout Almandine and it was cooked perfectly. Nice flaky and moist flesh with a fantastically rich butter sauce. The capers and toasted almonds provided nice pops of salt and texture. The green beans were a great complement to the dish and offered a nice contrast to the richness of the fish. The beignets with the powdered sugar was just so soft and pillowy they just almost melted and floated away in your mouth. The raspberry jam provided a perfect tang to round out all of the flavors. We went here for brunch on a Saturday morning. They were busy when we arrived so we put our name on the list. They had about an hour wait to be seated we heard from friends that the place was good so we wanted to check it out. They do have a parking lot and we were able to find parking with no problem. After an hour wait I went to check in on our reservation to see how much longer the wait was and the host stated they tried calling and texting my number. The host wrote down my phone number incorrectly after I repeated my number two times for her to write it down. She was able to seat us right away after the second check in. This place was nice they had indoor and outdoor seating. We ordered some drinks they had beignets we ordered some and they were nice and fluffy. I had the crab cake Benedict which was good. My boyfriend order led the stray and eggs which was good. Both meals came with a potato patty which was good. My boyfriend liked the croissant the most. He stated the croissant was nice and warm. I love the French vibe of this place, the decoration, the set-up and of course the pastries and food. We came around brunch time, and it took about 20-25 mins wait to get us seated. I ordered the Smoked Salmon Benedict (Spinach, Smoked Salmon, Eggs, Hollandaise). My boyfriend ordered the Crab Cake Benedict (Crab Cakes, Two Eggs, Hollandaise) both comes with a side of Hash brown (which could be fry a little more longer to make it crispy) Both are so delicious, flavorful, and I think it's worth the price. For desert, we split a big slice of Carrot cake, I like the cake is moist and creamy. read more

We are frequenting Cafe Monte more and more. My earlier impression from 10 years ago was that the menu was very limited. Not any more. They have done an excellent job of expanding the menu to accommodate sit and chat appetizers/bites, lunch and dinner plates. The French cafe flair works. Beignets, a must to try, come is servings of three or five. Order these when you are seated, as you will munch on these puffy fried, well dusted with powdered sugar delights while you figure out your meals. The coffee is not for sissies, being rich, strong and flavorful. It goes so well with the beignets. The plates and courses vary a lot. I sometimes have the duck confit (yum, yum) or the shrimp and artichoke crepes. Yesterday my wife and I went for croques: she the provencial (tomato slide on top) and I the madam (fried egg on top). The croque is basically a ham and cheese sandwich, two slices of bread and lots of cheese on top and inside. A very filling item. Their bar is excellent and there is seating there, where you also can order food. Service is excellent and parking is abundant outside. Really convenient and ladies will feel very comfortable here. To me, a great first date place and later a favorite in your relationship. Prices will not kill you. Reasonable. read more

We waited for a little under an hour on Sunday afternoon for a group of seven. We started with New Orleans style beignets. They come out fast and are square shaped pieces of dough that are deep fried and generously sprinkled with confectioners sugar with 3 or 5 per serving. I recommend you to always start with two because they go fast. A neighborhood staple. There was something on the menu for everyone. Including my picky four year old who doesn't like her food to touch. I always order the lobster and crab crepes. They were phenomenal. One of my favorite spots for brunch - Café Monte in SouthPark! I know it's not just my favorite since it did win a few awards from OpenTable in 2020 for Best Value, Best Lunch and Best Brunch and for good reason! My go-to order is the Beef Short Rib Baguette with Caramelized Onions, Provolone and Garlic Aioli with a petite house salade (or you can get pomme frites!) with the champagne vinaigrette. It's the most complementary side to the richness of the sandwich! That savory, fatty beef drip tho gets me everytime and the aioli adds even more richness! I also like to get the salad though to save room for the beignets. YAS I said beignets. You absolutely cannot leave here without them. They are little pillow doughnuts of heaven! If you've been to Café du Monde In NOLA - I honestly think these are better because they are fluffier and lighter which means you can eat more! I love putting the strawberry jam that comes with it on top too! Wash it all down with a café au lait and you'll have the picture perfect meal! Food is very good but the waiter is awful! I'm in a rush so sad at the bar to eat lunch. I got to try to cancel. Extremely ; no smile on his face at all! I had to ask other servers to get me a spoon and some salt. I'm watching him as I sit here and eat and he is not smiling at anybody so it's not just me! The food was fine, but lack a depth of flavor, which was surprising based on the other reviews and the menu descriptions and ingredients. The service was standard, nothing outstanding to note. The restaurant was busy and it is noisy. It's really hard to have a conversation during peak times. Another thing to consider is the parking; it took me 15 minutes to find a space because I had to wait for someone to leave. There were 5 other cars circling as well. read more

Thinking of something not our regular cafe. It is located near South Park Mall. Yes, you better make reservation cause this place is full even on Tuesday. So I suggest not try to walk in, especially if you have to drive 1,5 hrs away. Make a reservation. Overall for me, it's not something I will come every week. It's nice to give them a try, tho. But variety of menu for me, it's not there. And they need to work more on their plating. Cause you eat with your eyes first Taste for me is average. It's not wow me .... A couple was seated near me about eight minutes after I was seated. When a server came to take their order and left without so much as a glance in my direction, I took the remainder of my baguette and left. What a gem! We went here for a business dinner and enjoyed outdoor seating on a beautiful September evening. While we waited for the rest of our party, we enjoyed a French Martini at the bar that was delicious. The bartender was so friendly and engaging. A few in our party had been here before and recommended the steak and frites so most ordered that but I selected the Beef Short Rib Bourguignonne with Pearl Onions, Baby Carrots, Mushrooms, Mashed Potatoes. It was the best I've ever had. I also had a cup of French onion soup. Soooo good! We were all so stuffed but had to go one step further and order a variety of deserts to take one bite of each.
