Beautiful French decor

This was my second visit to Cafe Monte. The first time the restaurant was very busy and I was looking for a quick afternoon snack. The hostess was gone so I went to the bar located next to the hostess stand and they were so busy they shave time to assist and re-directed me to the Hostess Stand so I left. The second time we were greeted with a smile and asked if we had a reservation, which I thought was weird for breakfast, then seated quickly. There was only one server who took awhile to get to our table but our order was taken quickly and food was brought out fast. Food was fresh and served hot. We got the butternut squash soup, eggs Benedict served with a hash brown and a bacon egg cheese sandwich also with a hash brown. Food was delicious and service was great. I love the "French atmosphere". My only reason for 4 stars was we were informed the cappuccino machine was out so no lattes- only coffee. I was really looking forward to a hot latte and settled for OJ. Definitely recommend Cafe Monte.

Met a couple gfs for Sunday brunch at noon, the ambience is beautiful but the food sort of fell flat for me. I ordered the short rib sandwich just to be told few min later they were out of it. So I settled in on the seafood omelette. Was posed to have like crab, lobster and salmon with cheese but honestly barely could find much seafood and if the cheese was there it was very light, almost nonexistent. And the flavor just wasn't there for me, had high hopes but just didn't win me over. The jam for the bread was great as well as the sweet tea.

Food was delicious and fresh! The chicken and mushroom crepe was perfection. Seasoned but not salty. The potatoes had the perfect crunch on the outside and mashed potatoes inside. Steak was undercooked but still tasty. Service was OK. Parking available in lot.

First time here and it was busy of course. They share parlors it's other businesses so during busy time you may have to circle working the deck a couple of times to find a spot. The place itself has a lot of seating. It isn't the cutest in the inside. The service was okay. Pretty straight forward waiters. Water glass was dirty. The food was decent. Not the best. We got the Benedict monte and salmon Benedict. It was okay. It was nice that it was serve on a croissant and not an English muffin like usual. Probably wouldn't go back. Food wasn't all that different.

Café Monte continues with its charm and nice atmosphere. Service continues to be good. The food was okay. Some of our dishes were really good, some lack flavor. Overall great experience and nice restaurant to have dinner.

Shortrib poutine

The last time I was here, I did not notice there is no women's restroom. This time, since we came a day that had 1/2 priced cocktails... I noticed. There are 2 restrooms and both are unisex. Not one of them gives a woman her own space. Instead, they decorated the bathroom with a "distressed look" to hide men's dribble on the floor and messiness. There was also no soap, it was out. The unisex bathroom reminds me of what you'd find in a gas station. It makes the restaurant low class. As for the food, I got the lobster & crab crepe again but it was not as good as the last time I was here. They shrunk the size by 1/3 and did not have as much meat. I regretted getting it. One gal got the shortrib over mashed potatoes and it was very good. One gal enjoyed the mussels. One gal got the gluten free pizza and didn't like it. (But, I mean it's gluten free so what do you expect ? Lol) The French onion soup was tiny but had excellent flavor. The desserts here are tiny... the fruit tart or creme brule can be eaten in 4 bites. The Nutella crepe was very good. The éclair tasted purchased. Drinks were excellent and the service was excellent. However, I do not return to a restaurant if they don't have a women's restroom so this will be my last time here.

Went to Cafe Monte tonight for dinner with my Soul Family, all you can eat mussels (three of us got different dishes). Excellent service (Matt), great food! They bring out fresh bread, which was quite good of course. A short rib poutine with Wisconsin cheese curds, which was phenomenal! I just wish there was more short rib and cheese because we did share it between nine people so everyone could get a taste - and had more fries than meat and cheese. But. Again. Flavor was spot on and the french fries were excellent - actually enjoyed it enough that I would definitely get a short rib entree it was that good! The first round of mussels are quite large, cooked beautifully, a lot of meat, and the flavor was excellent. They do tell you upfront that the subsequent rounds of mussels are smaller, but again the flavor and the freshness just as good. The other three dishes were: a chicken risotto, really good portion and again fresh and flavorful. Artichoke and crab crêpes with lemon béchamel that was absolutely out of this world! I personally love lemon, of course, the artichokes were such a good compliment, the seafood very fresh. Crab and lobster crepes in a tarragon cream sauce. Yet again, very fresh and flavorful. It had chunks of tomato, which I personally enjoyed. Definitely worth a visit for any meal really but especially those mussels! We were way too full for dessert, but Matt mentioned they have an excellent coconut cake, carrot cake, eclair, crème brûlée, and other desserts.

My experience at Cafe Monte was pretty cool! It was my first time going and I went alone, so I sat at the bar. There was a pretty long wait so I patiently watched the tvs and browsed my phone. The bartender noticed and ended up giving me a free drink because of the wait and my calm patience (so cool). I ordered the french toast and the ham and cheese quiche (first time having quiche) and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it! The french toast was pretty regular (nothing spectacular), but the quiche was really really good. The spot also has nice decor that I caught myself just staring at as I ate my food. Definitely a spot I'd go back to with my wife to try some more things and just enjoy the vibe. Bonus: the gentlemen that sat next to me had been going for a while and told me about another restaurant the owners have that I should also check out. I forget the name, but I'm sure with some digging I (or YOU) could find!

I have been to this location in the evenings and love their Wed night "Bottomless Mussels" special, but this time was brunch with a group of 5 couples and I was amazed. The service was impeccable. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. They put us in Fritz' Wine room, which made it easier to communicate in a more private atmosphere. Several in the group graduated to the "Clean Plate" club at this location. We do a weekly couples brunch tour and Monte's got a unanimous "Remain on Rotation" vote!

I really enjoyed my time at Cafe Monte! It is decorated well and really comfortable the vibe is relaxed and casual. There were so many things on the menu that I wanted to try. We ordered the escargot with puff pastry while it was good I felt that it was not seasoned as well but a little salt and pepper fixed that easily. The French onion soup was delicious. I ordered the croque madame which was wonderful though it could have been cooked a little better because it was fairly soggy. My husband ordered the prime rib sandwich and it was really good as well. my husband and I went for brunch on his birthday and they didn't give us any birthday dessert which was a little disappointing but understandable. The service was okay I felt like she gave us enough time to think and delivery and they leave water at the table so you can continue to fill your glass which is always a plus for me. I definitely want to go again and try more dishes.

Today my 21-year old niece and I decided to visit Cafe Monte for brunch. It's been a go-to eatery in my family for years. We're used to their phenomenal food and service. But today, things just didn't stack up. Our visit was impromptu, so naturally, we had no reservations. After a short wait of 10 minutes, the hostess graciously seated us at a shaded table outside, setting the stage for what we hoped would be another fantastic meal. Being frequent flyers of Cafe Monte's menu, we didn't need a refresher on the options. As we waited in the shaded heat for 10 minutes, a server with a beautiful, long blonde French braid came outside. My niece almost complimented her, but the server attended to the neighboring table and never acknowledged us. I figured that perhaps she wasn't our server. After another full 10 minutes of parched bafflement, she returned and attended to another table's needs. Watching her ask if they'd like refills without taking our drink orders was tough to witness. This time she stopped by our table to say, "I'll be right back to take your order," before disappearing again. We were thirsty and famished and wondered why she didn't at least take our drink order. After patiently waiting for a grand total of 20 minutes I decided it was time to ask for help. And yes, after she walked off I checked the time to see how long we'd have to wait for her return.  Returning to the hostess stand, I politely asked the hostess for another server, explaining our dilemma and how she came and went multiple times without assisting us. The hostess said couldn't reassign our server but said she'd find her and ask her to take our order. Lovely.  Our server finally resurfaced. No introduction, but she said "sorry about that" without any further explanation. We placed our straightforward order: steak and eggs for both, OJ, coffee, and an iced café latte with almond milk. Easy peasy. Our server returned with our drinks. The food followed suit. When the food runner arrived, we realized we were utensil-less. He promised to relay our silverware request to the server. After a five-minute bout of spoon-fed dining with my coffee spoon, my niece walked to the hostess stand to request silverware from her. She offered a friendly and sincere apology, and mentioned that she should have given it to us when we were seated. Understood. No problem. When our server returned she put a bottle of hot sauce on the table although we didn't request it or use it. She asked if everything looked good. It did, but my niece requested ketchup for her potatoes, since our table was condiment-less...minus the hot sauce. She arrived quickly with the ketchup. The meal concluded, and despite the hiccups, I tipped the customary 20% out of dining decorum, hoping to send a message of grace under pressure. This experience felt like a rare misstep for Cafe Monte. No use crying over spilt milk, though. We'll fork over another chance in the future, hoping it'll be back to its deliciously dependable self.

Sweltering inside. Guess they are trying to cook the customers too. No aircon no breeze just disgusting heat. Miserable experience

Ask the Community - Cafe Monte

When are the endless mussels coming back?

They have endless mussels every Wednesday. I've been several times over the last 6-8 months.

Are you open for outdoors patio dining?

They have very nice tables, chairs, and umbrellas outside. Very nice quality for outdoor furniture. Exterior is decorated nicely with lights and an Eiffel Tower.

Does anyone know what day they serve beef Wellington?

Saturday. Reservations informing them you want beef wellington is recommended as they only make around 20.

Not having to deal with parking, traffic, or circling for a space is a luxury -- and being able to walk off dinner and dessert afterward might be the best part of all. I'm a total Francophile when it comes to French cuisine. From seafood towers to escargot, tartare, pâté, bone marrow, and soufflés -- you name it, I'm all in. And this restaurant does not disappoint. My very first visit was just for pastries, and I was blown away by how beautiful the restaurant is. It truly gives off all the vibes of Paris. If you haven't been, put it on your list -- and plan to eat your way through the city. This place captures that spirit beautifully right here in Charlotte. I've been here several times now and realized I failed to write a review earlier, so this is me catching up. I've worked my way through a good portion of the menu, and there are some clear standouts: * The Brussels (lardon) salad is outstanding -- rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced * The escargot in puff pastry is decadent and absolutely delicious * The mussels are consistently exquisite * The charcuterie and pâté selections are ideal for sharing * And the chicken confit -- oh my goodness -- sprinkled with flaky sea salt, shatteringly crisp on the outside, incredibly succulent on the inside. It's truly to die for. Don't be surprised if guests at the table start fighting over the last piece. One thing I especially appreciate is the value, even though the menu can appear pricey at first glance. This is a restaurant that really shines when you dine with a group. Sharing dishes family-style allows everyone to experience more of the menu without being stuck with just one entrée -- and without leaving with a mountain of leftovers. There's no fee for splitting dishes, and the staff are more than happy to accommodate sharing, which makes the experience feel welcoming and relaxed. That's exactly how I love to dine -- passing plates, tasting everything, and enjoying the meal together. The cocktail program is strong, and they have a full bar, plus an impressive dessert and espresso selection. The patisserie in the morning is a gem, and having a dedicated pastry chef really shows in the quality of the desserts. Favorites so far: * Apple Tarte Tatin * Crème brûlée * Canelés * And their birthday presentation -- a small plate with a candle -- is a lovely touch that makes celebrations feel special The restaurant itself is gorgeous, the waitstaff are knowledgeable and professional, and the service has been consistently excellent. I also appreciate the large outdoor patio -- I love dining al fresco, and the atmosphere here makes it easy to linger. Bottom line: This is one of my favorite restaurants in Charlotte. It's consistent, beautiful, and delivers a true French dining experience without pretense. Knock on wood, I've never had a bad meal here. Be curious about food. The food: we were served salads and focaccia to start. The side salad was nice, and I enjoyed the creamy vinaigrette and fresh vegetables. The focaccia was warm and beautifully salted. We were also given cheese platters, and I enjoyed the addition of honeycomb on the platter. I opted for the filet mignon, medium rare, with polenta and roasted carrots. The filet was served medium well, and even with the Stilton crust it was flavorless and desperately needed some salt. The thyme polenta was also missing the thyme, and even more desperately needed salt and just any sort of flavor. An unflavored polenta can taste like boiled water and I found that to be the case with theirs. The carrots tasted lovely with the Madeira Demi glace, but were unfortunately raw. I opted for the banana cheesecake for dessert, and while it wasn't my favorite, I think it was executed nicely. I also tried someone else's coffee ice cream which they pair with beignets, and thoroughly enjoyed that. All in all, a disappointing food experience. For a $62 steak, they missed the mark.

We still ate most of it though! Ambiance was really nice as they weren't super packed when we went. It was fairly quiet people wise, though they do play their 90s r&b a bit loud.
