We were passing through and thought Cumberland looked like a cool town to stop in. We found Cafe Mark and were rewarded with excellent food, friendly service, and good coffee! We had an omelet, chip beef gravy and biscuits, and a breakfast burrito and everything was excellent! You can watch them cook on a griddle right at the counter. Everything was freshly made. Cafe Mark was such a quaint and cozy breakfast spot! My friends from the area took me here for breakfast and I absolutely loved it. It has a downtown cafe atmosphere with a very friendly staff and delicious food. I ordered the Cafe Breakfast, which came with 2 eggs your way, bacon or sausage, and 2 homemade pancakes. The pancakes were fluffy and moist and my over-easy eggs were prepared just right. I also ordered a 16 oz. of their house coffee; it was strong, rich, and I would highly recommend it to any coffee lover! There is plenty of seating downstairs, upstairs and even outside. The staff does a great job of checking on you consistently. This place reminds me a lot of the cafes in my hometown. I would recommend a trip here. read more

This is one of the worst restaurants I've ever been to , I stopped to have breakfast and I wish I didn't, it's very overpriced, I paid more than 10$ for their signature omelette which was mediocre at best and don't worth more than 5$,so I would recommend everyone to save their hard earned $$ and stay away from this overpriced restaurant. Did not expect to find a place this good on my travels back to DC, but once again, my fellow Yelpers didn't disappoint with this #1 rated eatery in Cumberland, MD. The grilled cheese, with spinach greens and pesto was cooked to perfection. The tomato basil soup had a thinner consistency than I'm accustomed to, but they pulled it off with a delicious taste. You could really taste the fresh ingredients. On to a few nitpicky, yet important items to me: the pickle was nice, didn't do anything other than a kosher dill wedge, but too often places try to get fancy here....and screw it up. The chips being sweet potato also made a difference. It would be easy to go classic wavy or regular Lays-style chips, but they didn't, and it was a nice touch. Worth a stop in if you're on Hwy 68 or in town! read more

We were passing through Cumberland MD and stopped at Cafe Mark for lunch. I had a decaf Hawaiian latte that was delicious. Cafe Mark has a long list of latte options. The lady at the counter was patient and answered all my questions. The Cuban with ham, bacon, cheese and pickles was grilled and so good. The side I chose was grilled veggies--zucchini, spinach, mushrooms and peppers. It was also very good and a nice change to chips. Out-of-towner here. Great food, service and atmosphere. Am pretty picky about coffee and espressos, comparing everything to Dutch Brothers, Starbucks or Pete's ... and they were solid competitors! Prices seem very reasonable for the the food items I have ordered so far (have only been in 3 times on 3 consecutive days). I had the Breakfast Reuben (Reuben with a fried egg and hash browns in it) and a bowl of the Creme of Crab soup. Loved them both. The crab soup was amazing and is a must get. read more

When hubby and I were passing through, I looked for a local joint to patronize. Cafe Mark fit the bill. He had a decent BLT, and I had a cup of cream of crab soup (spicy!) with half of Rachel's Reuben. Both were creamy and delicious. His meal came with chips and a drink. Altogether the bill was twenty bucks, which I think is fair. The staff were pleasant, and there is good local art on the walls. I would come back if we were in the area. This is my favorite café in the area. The staff is so friendly, they have a wide variety of foods and drinks! The café drinks are very well balanced between espresso to sweetness ratio. The breakfast is my favorite from the regular pancakes, bacon and home-fries, to their signature blueberry French toast, the breakfast burrito and the sausage gravy is to die for! They usually have a special of the day especially on Saturdays! The one pictured below is the raspberry white chocolate french toast which yes, was as good as it looks! They ha really cool flavors for the drinks too, like snickers! My favorite is the good ole caramel macchiato which is pictured with it. White mochas and French vanilla are my other go to's! Update: you sometimes can leave smelling like grease which wasn't an issue before so that kind of stinks (no pun intended) but still a great place. read more

Driving back from WV and needed a quick sitdown breakfast place and Cafe Mark did not disappoint. You could tell this was the locals' choice as the counter was very busy, yet efficient, in making custom coffee/tea drinks. We were in town for a leisurely weekend and really enjoyed Cafe Mark. The staff were very friendly, patient, and accommodating. The coffee was fantastic (and I can be a coffee snob. The first day was an Americano, the second was their "buzz" in drip style. My partner got their latte special and really enjoyed it. For food- the scramble and burrito are fantastic. Stopped by this cafe for a quick drink on a Friday afternoon. I wanted something cold, so I asked about their Italian sodas, to which they'll add a variety of flavored syrups. I asked for a recommendation, and the gal taking my order responded that she'd never had one. Huh. Very odd, given that it seemed like a house favorite. I ended up with raspberry -- a couple pumps of syrup, topped by ice and a bottled soda (It might have been Sprite, honestly. She did a good job of hiding it behind the counter when pouring). And the lid wasn't a typical one, but the kind you'd have on a drink with whipped cream on top (wide mouth), so the straw slipped all around. Skip the Italian sodas. Husband had a latte, and it tasted good. Cost for both drinks was almost $8. Pricey for Cumberland, but not bad if it's worth it. I'm not sure this was worth it. read more

Amazing little coffee shop on the Cumberland downtown mall. I frequent this coffee shop regularly and never have a problem. The coffee has always been top notch with very friendly service. The pastries and food have always been 10/10! The only downfall is finding good parking to get in, but it's worth a short walk if you can't find parking out front. read more

Reflecting on my two-day visit to Cumberland, there's a lot to like about this town, and my favorite discovery was the Cafe Mark. I ordered the Waldorf chicken salad for lunch and it was so delightful that I came back the next day to eat it again. (An additional perk was that the staff remembered me when I came back, but I can't guarantee that for everyone because I may be particularly memorable.) You can take an easy, scenic walk to get to the Cafe Mark if you are staying at the Fairfield Inn, and there are galleries, antique shops, and a bookstore all in the same area. It's pretty special. I've saved the best part for last. The coffee. I asked for their darkest roast, black. That was a damn good cup of full-bodied coffee. The kind of coffee that sets my creativity rolling, gives me a pleasant head rush when I stand up, and makes me talk to strangers like I'm some kind of celebrity interviewer. If I lived in Cumberland, I'd be a regular. As it is, I'll plan my future road trips to revisit the Cafe Mark. read more

The workers aren't the most pleasant. We walked in kinda clueless because we have never been there. We asked the workers where to go and they gave us a standoffish response. Hands down the beast breakfast in downtown Cumberland. We ate here twice during our short stay and really enjoyed everything we had. I had the meat lover's omelette and let me just say, it's huge! No lunch for me either day in Cumberland. Really good coffee, tasty food and quick service made for a great experience, plus they're open super early during the week. At Cafe Mark you order at the counter and are given a number (think table numbers at a wedding) and the food is brought out to you when it's ready. When I first ordered, the display screen for your total displays a tip amount, which was a bit eyebrow raising the first time I saw it thinking they would call my number and I would have to go and get the food. When I discovered they deliver the food to your table, I was happy I decided to hit the 20% option before my check was totaled. Please know that although the ordering is "self serve" the rest your meal is provided by servers that do deserve the tip you agree to. I was happy with everything I ate both times I visited Cafe Mark. I look forward to returning should my travels take me back to Cumberland. read more

We found this place on our way to Hagerstown. We had been walking around a little and wanted to find a place with a little warmth, coffee, tea, and snack. This is a very friendly place with a sweet atmosphere. The man who runs the place is very nice and so is his staff. My husband and I ended up sharing a bowl of soup which was delish! The reason for my four stars is because their service is a little slow. You cannot expect to get in and out of there quickly. However, I do have to say the ambience and friendliness there, outweighs the wait time. If I'm ever out that way again I would definitely check in for a cup of tea and a quick hello. read more

I stopped in Cumberland to have breakfast at Café Mark and I'm glad I did! I got a breakfast reuben, which is a grilled sandwich with corned beef, fried egg, havarti, and thousand island dressing. It was tidy and nicely grilled, served hot, and I liked it a lot. The coffee was good. Service was prompt and friendly, the bathroom was clean, and the restaurant was nice to be in. I forget how much it all cost, but I guess around $11. I forgot to pay for parking in the municipal lot out back and got a ticket. The ticket said "WARNING ONLY -- PAY $0.00". Okay! I visit Cumberland periodically to see my family. A few years ago I was happy to find this place because it provided a bit of a change of pace-decent coffee and good food. Previously, there wasn't much to choose from in terms of coffee, so it became a go-to spot for a latte. I want to preface this saying I understand the challenges COVID has presented: places are short-staffed, trying to meet pent up demand. However, on our last two visits to Cafe Mark they appeared to be pretty well staffed: four staff behind the counter, and no table service, meaning you order at the counter, but the food is brought to your table. It was mid-morning and business was brisk on the first visit; it was fairly low key on the second visit. They were SLOW, and for the most part, unfriendly. We placed a takeout order for a breakfast sandwich, a coffee and latte on the first visit. The guy who took the order was very polite and friendly. We got our coffee drinks in a reasonable amount of time and then we waited. And waited. And waited some more. I finally went to check on the food and when I asked, the guy doing the cooking snapped "I have to do them in the order I get them" (well, yeah, I get that), and then muttered something under his breath as I walked away. The breakfast sandwich was a good size and pretty good, so we chalked it up to having a rough morning. Returned for coffee the second day, had one order ahead of us (otherwise everyone had been tended to) and waited almost 15 minutes for a latte. The staff that morning was unfriendly, bordering on rude, and seemed more interested in socializing behind the counter. The cafe appears to be adequately staffed-there seems to be a lot of chatter among the staff and absolutely no sense of urgency in taking care of customers. After the long wait for a routine drink order (2 drip coffees and a latte), we decided that was it for us at Cafe Mark. I found Basecamp Coffee nearby and am very happy to have an excellent replacement for a coffee stop (great coffee, very efficient and really friendly). read more

I wish i could go back in time and miss the exit to this place while on my way from DC to Cleveland. We stopped there for breakfast and based on the reviews we thought we would have some "decent" plates. Ended up ordering their "signature omlette" which is an omlette stuffed with sundried tomatos, spinach and feta cheese. If that is their signature, then i wonder what their "less" signatured plates taste like. I mean it was basically what a 9 year old would cook if u gave him those ingredients; they didnt even bother to make it look like it was prepared in a cafe by a chef! Moreover, the prices were relatively high especially for those less than average plates. There's a warm fire burning on this cold blustery winter day. There a four homemade soups available today; chicken noodle and tomato bisque are both good. Rachel's Ruben is also tasty; chicken salad is okay. The loft area is comfortable with couches and tables. We'll definitely eat here again on our way to Deep Creek. My boyfriend and I were on our way home from Deep Creek Lake and stumbled upon this cute Cafe on Yelp. Glad we stopped. The food was really good, and the atmosphere of the place was nice. The food was a little pricey but it was tasty! I give this place 4 stars merely because the prices were slightly high for what we ordered. But, great place and good food & drinks. We ordered Banana Chocolate Chip Pancakes, French Toast with Bacon, Happy Raspberry Green Hot Tea, & Snickers flavored Iced Latte :) yum!
