Took a trip to reminisce where I spent my childhood growing up with my grandparents. Not only is this place charming, the service is welcoming and friendly. Food is great! Out in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by sports-car-friendly roads (and a covered bridge!), this cafe was an unexpected treat. I had a cheeseburger, cooked just the way I ordered it. I was tempted by the ribs which were the Thursday special, but with hours left to drive that day I decided to try the (homemade) lemon meringue pie. The young lady working there was very friendly. I also noted the many "wild" cats nearby. They were too shy to touch, but they're clearly getting fed and cared for. I'm definitely bringing my car group here this year - just have to figure out a good route from the DC metro area. read more

Burger was better than average. Wings were fried to the perfect crisp.. Coconut custard pie was delish. Service was slow. The girl serving us was nice but the old women we encountered as we entered was a bit standoffish. Other customers gave us strange looks and smirks since we're minorities. Went here for breakfast and never in my life have I wanted to have a larger stomach. Fantastic sausage gravy and biscuits. Scrapple fried just right. The wife's pancakes fluffy and filling. Coffee hot. Just be patient with service as it's usually just one in the kitchen and one on the floor. This is feel good food that is disappearing way too quick. There's good service and a comfortable atmosphere. Small convenience shop attached all the time and ice cream shop seasonally. Enjoy a great scenic drive in all directions after your meal. Close to Flintstone, Hancock, and not that far away from Bedford. Watch out for deer and occasional bear. read more

If you are looking for home cooked meals to order, this is the place to come. Your food is prepared when you order, so if it's busy, be patient. Friday night is their AYCE fish. This is very popular here and currently runs $14.99 with two sides. I went with the grilled chicken breast dinner. It was very good! The chicken was moist and cooked perfectly. I would definitely order this again. I also had the coleslaw as one of my sides and it was very good. We have been here before and will definitely be back! read more

Great unassuming little roadside diner. The name is just the start of the draw. Simply decorated, the decor belies the quality of the great menu. Everything I've eaten here (been there twice) has been great. My favorite is the tater kegs. Think of them as giant loaded tater tots. The tables are basic picnic benches, with plenty of room for families. The staff is very friendly, even offering directions to local attractions, such as covered bridges. The service is prompt and efficient, with the food coming out right on time. The store side is typical rural mini-mart, with all the necessities, and I picked up a shirt just for grins. The parking lot is gravel, so if you're on two wheels, be careful. They have free WI-Fi, which is great, since none of the big 3 cell providers work there. Be sure to save room for pie. It was hard to believe that this place is in the middle of nowhere and has pretty good food. I had the hot roast beef sandwich with what I believe we're real mashed potatoes. A group of us stopped at the Roadkill today while on a motorcycle ride. The special was very good and the service was very good. Nice people with food food and fast service. My wife and I had the lemonade as well as an appetizer with fried chicken and a special of turkey and potatoes. The bill was under $30 with the tip. Good experience. Recently we spent a week, eight miles away, at the Creekside Resort in Clearville, PA. We packed some vittles to cook in our cabins modest kitchen but not enough for the entire week. Limited with our options of close by eateries and the glowing recommendations the staff provided we chose to dine at the Road Kill Café our first night in town. Pure and simple it's a country store with a kitchen and dinette and which sports promotional signage stating, "You kill it, we grill it." The home-cooked options on the menu can satisfy just about anyone's pallet at a reasonable price and the friendly service and ample delicious portions make you want to return for seconds - which we did by returning for breakfast later in the week. Our recommendations for a delicious meal are their honey dipped chicken and a slice of strawberry rhubarb pie. read more

RKC was our destination ride on this glorious Saturday. Our Meetup motorcycle group did a ride from Frederick MD to Artemas PA. The ride was flat out fantastic and the food at the RKC was pretty good. I ordered the half rack of bbq pork ribs with coleslaw, mashed potatoes, roll, and sweet tea. The ribs were good but nothing to write home about. Hell, we were so hungry that even roadkill would have been suitable--seriously. These ribs are not your smoked slow, low, and steady authentic award-winning ribs. Instead, these ribs were most likely baked or boiled, then coated with bbq sauce, and thrown on the grill for the"authentic" grill markings. None the less, these ribs had decent flavor and the sauce was nicely caramelized to give ribs nice balance and flavor. These ribs literally fell off the bone and was on the verge of mush--the biggest telltale sign of kitchen prepared ribs. The coleslaw was the best part of the meal. The slaw has a decent vinegary zing/bite to it, along with the right amount of creamy texture, pepper and seasonings to make is special. I could have sat down and just has the 'slaw for lunch, it was that good. The mashed potatoes (with gravy) was homemade and delicious. The sweet tea was refreshing and had the right level of sweetness. Every else in our group seemed to enjoy their meals--the burgers looked especially good. I'd come back and have lunch here; however, this is not worthy of a rib pilgrimage but good enough for a hungry motorcyclist wanting to chow down on ribs who happens to ride by. read more
