Honestly, wasn't the whole hype. The first impression seemed like I was going to like it but then the girl didn't look like she wanted to be there. First impressions are everything. I am from Arizona and came here because it was highly recommended. They were super busy but my egg was only crispy on one side and the salad was bare. This is my go to place when I'm craving a good avocado toast on sourdough bread. The ingredients they use are fresh and delicious. My only complaint is their portions have gotten smaller over the past few years but I'm still satisfied. Cute brunch spot in between Flatbush and Prospect Park. They were offering indoor dining when I visited in late November. There is also free parking around the residential avenues. The decaf lavender latte was very aromatic, but the lavender flavor was not as strong as I wouldn't The Madeline breakfast brioche was perfect. The spicy mayo on it was perfect. I was visiting a friend in Brooklyn and had some time to kill as she went into work. She highly recommended Cafe Madeline so I decided to give it a shot. I came in for looking for good breakfast and an iced coffee drink around 11:00am on a Friday. [Ambiance]. You can't miss the café, as the bright yellow storefront grabs your attention from down the block or across the street. As I walked in, the restaurant was pretty full with individuals typing away at their laptops and several groups of friends chatting quietly and laughing jovially. The vibe of Cafe Madeline is simultaneously upbeat with a laidback neighborhood feel. The menu offerings take your typical, informal breakfast up a notch. The decor can certainly be described as minimalist yet trendy. The walls are a medium toned wood color (as are the tables), with the restaurant being filled with bright blue, yellow, and aquamarine accents. The bright décor was certainly complemented by the bright ambiance of the staff and customers. [Food]. The menu features many options for breakfast. I would definitely recommend checking out the extensive menu before arrival. Luckily, I came with a taste for something in mind. I ordered the iced Rose Petal Latte and the Breakfast Bagel. The Rose Petal Latte was the perfect amount of sweetness and a subtle but noticeable hint of rose. The bagel sandwich was phenomenal! I opted for an everything bagel and it was perfect. Each element of the sandwich was tasty on it's own (yes, I confirmed) and complemented each other well. The everything seasoning on the bagel was flavorful but not overpowering. The eggs were scrambled and fluffy and tasted very fresh. The bacon was thick and slightly salty and the cheese was rich. I decided to grab a Sunshine Smoothie on my way out. For $10, I was expecting it to be good and it was. The size of the cup was larger than I was expecting and justified the price. It could easily be shared between two people. [Service]. My latte came fairly quickly (within a few minutes) and the Breakfast Bagel came after about 10 minutes. When I made my order, I noticed how efficiently the kitchen staff was working. You can't help but notice this as the kitchen is located directly behind the counter where you order. I opted for a seat in the back half of the restaurant as there was more space there. I thought I heard my name being called but I wasn't sure over the sounds of groups chitchatting and the music playing. When I went to the front of the restaurant, a waiter had just turned around to find me in the back of the restaurant. I offered to take the plate from his hands and he politely declined, saying he would follow me to my table and deliver the plate there. The small gestures make a huge difference! I want to be very clear that the food and the staff at this place are top tier. My problem is with the decor. This is the most schizophrenic cafe in all of Brooklyn. The signs all over the walls are a bit overwhelming when combined with how crowded the bar is. There's a sign for everything in this place except for the bathroom. I had to open a surprise door just to find a place to relieve myself, hoping I wasn't stepping into the kitchen. You'd figure they could have hired the sign guy to make one for the bathroom. There's nothing "cute" or "twee" or "kitschy" about all that signage, it just looks insane. Like, who decorated this place, the Zodiac killer? They could just decrease the font size and put everything onto one sign -- think of it as a "menu" of sorts. Best egg and Gruyère bagel in the neighborhood. At the counter, as I was ordering, I noticed a cake. I asked what type of cake and they said "carrot". I told them to sell me a piece, that I intended to have dessert first. And I did. I want to like this place but they are just too inconsistent. I've come here for over 4 years now and it's gotten worse across the board. The staff is spread too thin and they make tons of mistakes more often than not- egregious ones at that. E.g. ordered a mushroom brekkie sandwich and received a pile of mushrooms and half an avocado. No egg, no bread, no seasonings. Bizarre and unacceptable. Or a smoothie missing over half the ingredients, burger buns instead of french toast, etc. They also NEVER include extras that you pay for except for when they do and it's barely a spoonful of avocado/jam for $5... or something like that. When I'm paying on average $15+ per dish, none of this is tolerable. Your kitchen needs to get more organized, stop making random substitutions, limit the menu size or amount of orders they take, and maybe advertise a higher wait if that means getting the food right. Also, the inability to contact the establishment (lack of phone number and/or nobody picking up) is incredibly unprofessional. I absolutely cannot recommend this place anymore. read more

I am a fan of Cafe Madeline for a couple of years since I tried looking for new eats along cortelyou rd. The place is always feels crowded not only because it is popular but the way the space is set, certain pathways are very slim. With those tight spaces, the bright menu signs that run on the walls are very eye catching. But sometimes, depending on how it is positioned, you have to look really hard to find everything they have to offer. Even though I am one to always recommend checking the menu before you arrive at a place, I still get so overwhelmed when dealing with the menu. At least nowadays the website has improved since I visited. So that is why I recommend looking in advance. Especially when there is a line out front. Speaking of the cafe, there is a section in the back where people can work on their laptops and wifi is provided which is great since my cell service did not work back there. Make sure to ask about what is the correct wifi though because I saw a sign with the old one and thought it wasn't working until the owner let me know. The new wifi was really good and definitely great for doing work. The "laptop area" is not one of those sleek places from coffee shops nor is it one where you would think of a pose to post on social media. But it is great for work and talking with friends. While the cafe aesthetic is not one where you would necessarily want to take a million Instagram photos of yourself, the food is definitely something to take a look at/eat of course. One of my biggest worries when I came years ago is that by doing so much on the menu, they would decrease in quality in terms of the actual meal. Food wise, I have not disappointed. Cafe Madeline has been a popular all day cafe long before Eater and Grubstreet started curating all day cafe lists. They're defined as being the sort of places you could have breakfast, lunch or dinner at and where you serve yourself. Usually there's an avocado toast on the menu. You can get avo toast at least 6 different ways at Cafe Madeline. Their menu is crazy extensive. On the menu there's a section dedicated to Grilled Cheese, another dedicated to Grain Bowls, and another dedicated to Farm Eggs & Greens. These are just 3 of many sections on the menu, and that's not counting all the new specials they have posted all over their walls. I've been here countless times and feel like I've barely made a dent trying out their various dishes. They're all very well made and make you feel like you're at least making an effort to be healthy. When I'm feeling more indulgent I get their cheddar chive biscuit with soft scrambled eggs, spicy mayo and cheddar cheese. They have a huge selection of smoothies and lattes as well. I like the mango turmeric smoothie and the lavender honey latte. Cafe Madeline is not a place to go to when you're in a rush. There's often a long line just to get your order in, and then you can expect to wait a while as the staff diligently works through all the order tickets. I've always marveled at how constantly packed this place is despite the prices here feeling quite high. When did Ditmas Park get so bougie? Even though I always feel mild sticker shock after I pay here, I find that the quality and flavor of the food and drinks keep bringing me back. I asked for a "Lemonade" and received a Berry Smoothie... it was fabulous, and very healthy made with coconut water but also The rhubarb seltzer was pretty fantastic and would totally get again. Love this place. I'd seen fellow Yelpers frequent and check-in here but never thought to make the trip. It's a little distance from me, but when my friend recommended we meet here for breakfast, I made the trip. It's busy and bright and full of menus. So many menus. I initially thought they were just copies of the same menu, but no, entirely different menus in different colors and even different papers of menu items posted behind the cashier to what felt like hundreds of menu items. Menu over stimulation and mild confusion aside, after a few questions, I decided on the baked tofu bowl and a biscuit with jam and butter. Both were delicious!! And presentation is a plus. Each dish comes with a thinly sliced watermelon radish (?) garnish. The bowl was delicious, nutritious and packed with all of the good things. The biscuit and jam was equally satisfying, warm and savory. I wanted to get all of the pastries because they looked so delicious but I'll have to save that for next time! read more

Came here for a breakfast meeting. I don't know the neighborhood much but this was the meeting spot. The min I walked in I knew it is a decent place. A nice selections of coffee, food and pastries. The coffee is great, the croissant I had was flaky and buttery. The breakfast platter my colleague ordered looked great. Overall I really like this unassuming place. I'm guessing it's because their pricing is still within the realm of affordable for a decent meal. It's very busy there with lots of business and the menu has variety enough for budgetnistas to splurge. Personally, I'm past the stage in my life where eating off a plastic tray is okay. Also, gluten free and low cost generally don't mix in food service; Cafe Madeline is no exception. But their base doesn't require GF fair, just decent fair at a price that doesn't force you to change your lifestyle. We ordered breakfast for delivery from here on a Saturday morning. All the food came carefully packaged to prevent spills. We ordered the Brekkie Bowl with bacon and crispy eggs & brioche, Dragon Smoothie Bowl, and a side of potatoes. The Brekkie Bowl was pretty good and fresh (except for the avocado that had an extra slimy texture than normal). We were also a little confused to where the brioche part of the eggs were. The Dragon Smoothie Bowl was superb! It wasn't too sweet, the fruits were fresh, and they didn't cut back on the toppings. I'm happy to say there was at least something crunchy in every single bite. The side of potatoes were okay; nothing stood out to me about them. I would definitely come back to this place as they have a very extensive menu and plenty of heathy options to choose from. The food here is really good and fresh. I loved everything about what I ate and even my tea was really delicious. The service was simple and friendly. You order and they bring the food out when it's ready. The menu is massive, think Cheesecake Factory menu, so many options for all different tastes and a lot to choose from. However I guess what keeps me from giving this restaurant 5 stars is that I was not that comfortable. We sat outdoor. The outdoor seating is haphazardly placed on the sidewalk, tiny tables and chairs kind of just scattered wherever they fit, no real awning or separation from the sidewalk so it felt a little uncomfortable sitting out there. It's getting cold now so I guess it wouldn't matter anymore but if they put some more work into the outdoor seating this place would be a full 5 stars. read more

I want to love this place. I used to really like it years ago but I stopped getting food here for the following reasons: 1-They always had a big menu (with a lot good food options) but they keep adding more and more and it got very overwhelming, especially when you realize that most things in each category are very similar to eachother with minor variations. I wish they had more concise menu and people can make subs if they want. It takes so much time to go through the options , by the time I'm done I am over it and everything start to seem unoriginal (and, frankly, therefor too expensive) so I give up and just get my iced my coffee. 2- I hate to say it but this place really doesnt seem clean. During the time I sit with their dictionary (menu) and contemplate if I'd rather be hungry or unhappy with what I get, I notice the state of the place I choose hungry. The plated food always looks well-handled when the waiters bring it out so maybe the kitchen is clean, but I often see spots of collected dust around the room, especially the little part where they keep the high-chairs. Kind of makes you lose your appetite They also don't really have windows/ventilation by the tables. if the kitchen makes something smoky the whole place basically feels sits in a bacon hotbox for sometime. If a fly gets in there then it really has no place to go, and its joining you for your meal The place has so much potential, and its weird to say this about place that has been open for a while, but people still rave about the food so I have hope.
