Got a weird version of their Lobster BLT and a ridiculously small portion of burnt potatoes. The meal total including a couple other things was about $76. You tell me why anyone should pay that much for breakfast, let alone burnt potatoes and lobster slapped on a bun (usually on thick sandwich bread with the works). I would not lie but the food here is really delicious. The biscuits are really good and flavorful especially with the jam and butter but Mama Madeline we need to talk. I couldn't believe you guys increased your prices so much. There is NO way that a breakfast platter of some sorts can almost be 20 dollars. I go there (almost) daily. I love the lattes they make for me with a heart in it. I have a collection of photos of it. Lol. You wouldn't need Starbucks and Dunkin' anymore in your life if you are around in this area. I love their egg and avocado wrap, bagel sandwiches, and smoothies too. Been wanting to come here and finally did!!! Their food looks amazing on yelp pics and IG pics. The cafe is actually bigger than what the reviews seem to say.. they have a back section. Once u enter, u are greeted by the front staff at the register, u take the menu, grab a seat and then when ure rdy u go place ur order. They will call u to pick up ur drinks at the front and will bring u ur food to ur table. There are SO many options to choose from on their menu! I ordered "not ur grandma's bfast" and my bf ordered the crossiant salmon and turkey sandwich. Also ordered the rose petal latte. I thought the drink was WAY too sweet for my liking.. but then again, i stopped drinking coffee for a few wks now so maybe im not used to it. The staff was nice enough to switch it out for me. As for our meal, we both enjoyed it so much! It was definitely heavy and filling but at the same time looked so good and tasted yummy. The salad was sweet, the yoke was runny which I love and the portion size was huge for $14.99. That could've been my breakfast and lunch. Terrible - here's why: 1. Toby roaster coffee is not good quality coffee, very cheap quality. 2. I ordered an omelet w goat cheese, onions, tomatoes, avocado. It cost $15.00 too expensive. I got the wrong order. Then when I showed the recipe I got the same order but withgoat cheese, onions (raw), tomatoes, avocado thrown on tip of a scrambled egg. This time, without the toast. 3. I ordered a cappuccino - small, but got a large. The only difference btw a small and large is amount of milk. 4. I then ordered another cappuccino, this time I got what looked like a Cortado... When I showed how little it was, barista said "yup 8 ounces". I took a picture and would post it here if I could. I feel like goldilocks! 5. I have been going here since they opened and each time they are poor. I keep giving them another chance, hoping... Never again. They have the right idea, just very poor execution. We went here for breakfast/brunch at 10am and it was very busy. You order at the front and then have to find your own table. Atmosphere: 4 out of 5. It is a small place and they try to fit as many tables as they can so when its busy there isn't a lot of space. Food: 5 out of 5. The cheddar chive biscuit egg sandwich was flavorful with spicy mayo. I ordered the scrambled eggs well done instead of soft. Next time I would probably add bacon to it. The french toast is amazing! Big thick square pieces of bread covered in fresh fruit! We had the syrup and chocolate syrup on the side which was a good choice because it was very sweet. The bread itself had great flavor and was crunchy on the outside by soft in the middle. I would go back just to have this again! Lastly, the mochas were delicious! Service: 5 out of 5. Everyone who helped us was friendly and nice! What a nice surprise in this neighborhood. A tiny but vibrant coffee shop with a robust breakfast and lunch menu. They have traditional eggs dishes and more experimental one with jalapeños biscuits, poached eggs, avocado and haloumi. Being obsessed with poached eggs I chose my biscuit with eggs and a peanut butter cookie vegan. The place while is tiny has a lot of room in the back, so don't be caught by the line outside. The food for take out is great only one thing I ordered I don't think I will order again. The worlds greatest pastrami ... that's a hard one to do but everything else was so yummy. It's a little pricey but I think it's worth it. They make their own bagels. All of the bread I've ordered from them on sandwiches has been so yummy. ... the everything bagel and the sour dough. The salad I ordered was enough for 2-3 people. The bacon on anything I've ordered was real thick cut crispy bacon. The super yummy and filling avocado toast I ordered was on an everything bagel. Major downgrade from my previous 4-star, then 3-star reviews. I'm done with this place after coming here for 5 years. It's just gotten too annoying, and there are much better options within walking distance. They just seem to jump on every vapid coffee shop trend, without concern for real quality. In other words, they pander. And sadly, it works, which means they have achieved that iconic NYC status of both sucking and being perpetually crowded. It's not all bad. Their food is fairly good. Their coffee is fairly good. Even the espresso is fairly good (although I haven't tried it since they replaced the La Marzocco with the high-tech modular thing they have now). But fairly good is no longer a triumph in this town or even in this neighborhood. Especially when the prices are more than fairly high. And when the place is always slammed, seats are scarce, and no one has done anything to improve the electrical outlet situation (if you bring a laptop, you will likely find yourself crawling on the floor between the legs of strangers, indirectly encouraging them to deduct stars from their own reviews). The air is always thick with smoke, from poor kitchen ventilation. And the trends will dominate your experience ("Iced coffee please." "Nitro Cold-Brew?" "Do you have hot-brewed iced coffee without bubbles?" "No.") They used to sell a nice selection of Stumptown single-origin coffee beans, but they've switched repeateldly to different roasters, and now only carry blends (boring) named by some underpaid kid in marketing (annoying). And the service is perpetually rushed and impersonal. They basically herd customers and coffees. In some parts of the world, this place would be an oasis, and you'd happily put up with the annoyances. In this part of Brooklyn, there's just no reason to come here anymore. read more

Also lox, cream cheese, cucumbers, and onions on the biscuit is pretty amazing too. Honestly it doesn't seem like you can go wrong here. They also sell underwest donuts here so that's a plus. Four stars for the food and coffee. They source good ingredients and offer a nice variety. The prices are a bit high for pastries where everything is $4 even if it's a plain buttermilk biscuit. One star for atmosphere and service. While Madeline looks appealing at first, it quickly makes you want to escape. Tables are so numerous and crammed so close together that there's so nowhere nowhere to sit comfortably. Sit in the back room on a busy day and watch people get frustrated and bump into each other and curse the situation. And so you try to treat this place as a take out location, but service for coffee is painfully slow and there's nowhere to stand when it's busy because of the overcrowded tables and narrow passage. This one my go to spots when I am in this area. I love the coffee hot or cold depends on the weather. Today was ice coffee Vietnamese yummy for my pallet. I just made my meal simple avocado toast fresh and a pure party in my mouth. I never eat in the restaurant too crowded for sure!!!! What can I not say about this place? I grew up and lived around around the corner from this cafe, it was first a bodega forever, then changed hands and kinda took shape to what it is today. Basically I've watched it evolve. The proprietor of the cafe is really awesome and hardworking. He's a sweetheart. He's done so much with this cafe over time(10 years) but feels like 3 years. If you ignore the dirty looking hipsters, you'll see how much of a gem this sweet cafe is. Also, the food and coffee options are both very delicious and healthy. Coffee is strong and of great quality. Cortelyou needed this place.... badly. It breathed fresh air into ditmas park. As a kid, I would stop by the bodega to get rice krispy treats to and from school and now as an adult I stop by to get my daily coffee/Almond croissant or brekki bowl omg I love the Breaky bowls. The food is great and always consistent! I recommend the one-hander with eggs and bacon!! But sigh... This is usually one of my favorite spots but I went there last night and the staff was a little lukewarm and then passive-aggressive. I met with a client during the last hour of service, as I have had other work-from-home sessions there. Typically I have no problem, but noticed when I first walked in the cashier was pretty cold and then had a "hurry up" energy when I was trying to order. There were only 2 other individuals (also Black) there, so they weren't busy. Then some patrons ordered and left. All of a sudden the staff started blasting music. It was a bit weird because the two remaining customers were working. I'm all for having fun at work, but I politely asked if they could turn it down as I picked up my food because we were having to yell. Then 10-15 minutes before closing they started blasting the music again even louder and we took that as a sign to wrap it up. Just say you're closing... no need for all that. I also wanted to try their lemonades because that was the first time I saw all those flavors on the menu and it was around $8 and some change for a regular-size cup lol. I would give it a 7/10 though. They also didn't have A/C running, just the door open. It's June in Brooklyn, so keep that in mind if you run warm. It was sad because typically this has always been a great spot to visit over the years... not sure if it was because we came an hour before closing but it left a bad taste in my mouth. This is one of the best brunch places I have ever been to. At first I was overwhelmed with how much items they have on the menu and the amount of walking space we have, but the portions of food here is huge. I paid 45 with tips for what I ordered, it was definitely worth it. I had ordered the bacon brekkie bowl and chicken sandwich for me and my boyfriend. His sandwich was as big as his face. My bowl was pretty large too, filled with 2 thick cut bacon, large amount of veggies and quinoa. It was a nice touch with the pomegranate seeds, which bursts with sweetness at every bite. It had also came with 2 soft boiled eggs still a bit runny at the center. We ordered the Rose Latte and Tumeric Cardamom Latte to go with our food. The Tumeric latte was a bit strong of spices. I'm loving the rose Latte, coffee wasn't as strong but you can really taste and smell the rose fragrance in it. At first I wasn't going to order it and try a regular Latte, but I was like why not try something new? I'm glad I made this choice. Overall, this place may seem overwhelming at first but try it out before you leave because you might miss something that you might fall in love with. Service was quick and we got our food and drinks fast. The atmosphere is pretty casual. I don't really recommend sitting at the front sections because the smell of food is a little too much, head to the back where it's less crowded and a little more quiet. Or if you can sit outside. Cafe Madeline has a surprisingly large menu and yet everything I have ordered here, without fail, has been interesting, delicious and unique. The surroundings are low key - coffee shop meets cafeteria - but the plates are composed beautifully with colorful peels of radish or tart cherry tomatoes peeking off of each. Staff/cashier is pretty rude and overwhelmed with busy crowd. The menu is pretty scattered you have to look around the walls to see items not listed on the laminated menu. There's no where to really stand when you try to look around for items listed on walls around the cashier, you're constantly in someone's way trying to decide what to get. Then people grab their drink orders like a zoo. The rose petal latte is truly amazing and I would have that every day of my life if I could. The cashier was absolutely useless when I asked what I can substitutes ingredient in my wrap with. She just glared at me and said "nothing". I'm basically a regular here after discovering this cafe a little over two months ago! They also own two other restaurants on the block - a burger and Indian spot. The branding looks just like Cafe Madelines so it's easy to spot them. I generally frequent on weekdays, there is always a steady flow of people in and out the cafe, but you can always find a table to make your home for a few hours. The wi-fi is reliable, so you can easily turn this place into your home office. It is pretty noisy, since the kitchen is at the front of the cafe, so you have to step out to take calls. Just beware on weekends it gets very crowded and tight. The food is a extensive list of all things breakfast all day. From basic eggs and bacon plates to brekkie bowls to salads, they have something for everyone. It actually takes me a while to order whenever I go because the menu is so overwhelming. I've had the following: - Eggs w/Bacon - Its as basic as it sounds. I substituted the toast for the biscuit. Eggs were great - but its a basic dish so not much to say here. - Cashew Kale Caesar - I added an egg on top for protein. This salad was huge enough - definitely didn't need that extra egg! It was very good and filling. A bit too much cashews, I got tired of chewing them after a while, so if you're not a huge fan tell them to go light. -Croissant Burger - OK I missed the word BURGER when I ordered this. All I knew is I wanted smoked salmon and pastrami and boom this had both (clearly I was hungry and greedy when I ordered). And it has a fried egg...so there was allot going on and after only eating half I was full. - Madeline Breakfast Plate - The soft scrambled eggs were SOOOO good and perfectly scrambled soft (which seems to be very hard for restaurants to get right). The cuts of bacon were thick and crispy and the salad was sweet and lightly dressed. Loved this dish the best! As for the drinks - they have signature lattes like lavender or rose, with actual petals in the drink. Or classics like cafe au lait and smoothies. The most annoying thing of all is that they don't tell you the ingredients in any of the smoothies or juices, neither on the in-house menu nor online.
