With any luck, Josophan's Chocolates are on a path to (gentle) world domination. The cafe version of the great chocolate boutique up the road, here you can sit and imbibe a lush array of chocolatey goodness without fear of passing out on your feet. I hate to repeat myself (see Josophan's review), but try the Lime and Basil chocolate truffle. Really. Right now. My teeny expresso was brought with a smile, and I grinned at the 'slowly does it' sign by the counter. I would kill to eat the Mexican chocolate cake with double cream, but alas, it would kill me. It was too hot the other day to even think about trying their renowned hot chocolate, so expect an update the next wintry morning. Service was lovely, my only quibble is the dreadful Kmart art Paris pictures on the wall. If you want to call the place Cafe Madeleine, you should go the whole Proustian vibe. Line the walls with cork, serve limeflower tea, affect floppy moustaches and sentences that run on for years. Count me in.

At the innermost table looking out.

This is a great little café. I'm so glad we stopped and had a look in. The cakes were delicious, as was the coffee. Great vibe, sharing an external wall with the old church next door. Nice friendly service. We might go again tomorrow. We would definitely recommend it for a chocolate hit any time of the day.

This store is so quaint and charming that you feel you're in a Parisian chocolatier. Coco Chocolate is a specialty organic chocolate shop that makes all sorts of tasty wonders to whiz your head into a spin. You won't get the cheap additives (like vegetable fat and powdered milk) that bulk up the mass produced chocolates as Coco uses, as they say, 'expensive cocoa and cocoa butter'. And well, these expensive ingredients do translate of course to expensive chocolates. The thing is with this organic chocolate compared to other organic chocolate is that it is packaged in boxes that are quirky, original and beautiful - keepers they are - so are more gift chocolate than daily indulgent chocolate. A favorite is the Organic Handmade Dark Chocolate With Rose & Black Pepper made with 64% organic dark chocolate, organic ground black pepper and 100% pure rose oil. One last thing that I'm sure is worth a mention - tastings... in store.

The packaging is beautiful and reminds me of my Grandpa tobacco pouch - bound with the secret of the forbidden contents within. I love the Earl Grey Dark Chocolate, as well as the Lavender Milk Chocolate. The flavours are so refined and elegant, it's hard to stop at one pouch. In fact I don't think I ever have. If you're a bit so-so about chocolate this shop will elevate you. It's hard not to be as passionate as the owner Rebecca clearly is. They have another shop in Kirribilli too.

Still, I'm a big online fan because otherwise I can spend half a day looking for somewhere to eat. And the online menu does say they love people with allergies. However there is no mention of gluten or gluten free on the menu. Maybe this is related to the tightening of Australian rules into "gluten friendly" rather than gluten free. Since their specialty is hot sandwiches, I'm up in the air on the gluten front. If they will allow choosing from the sides and extras menu, that would be perfect. I also like how many of their prices have stayed reasonable, with five dollar coffees, I don't know if I can eat them but their egg sandwiches for Brekky look positively dreamy.

What a unique interior- hard to explain but almost like being on a ship. They told us they have a business in Alaska and fish for their own salmon and transport it here so of course I had to try the special. It was fantastic. Can't eat it like a sandwich so ask for a fork :) Hubs had the Deli Rose and loved it. Ate every bit. Friendly service, lots of languages spoken here. Loved it Aussie 43.50
