After a scenic visit to the Blue Mountains we worked up a hunger - and the Yellow Deli delivered! It was a chilly day so we enjoyed two sandwiches and a soup -- all was delish and the ambiance was nearly Elven ... so cute! For anyone concerned about other reviews that share concerns about religion -- we can assure you there was no mention of religion or beliefs -- all are welcome and the vibe was kind. The Reuben -- amazing!

The decor is just so instagram worthy. I felt like I had fallen into a storybook setting of either Alice in Wonderland or Enid Blyton tales of gnomes, brownies and fairies. The wooden setting makes it seem like you are dining inside a huge tree trunk and the many nooks and crannies create a cozy atmosphere. The washroom upstairs is equally delightful. Initially I thought this is a vegan place as everything on the menu looks so healthy and supposed to be good for you. Then I saw they do have regular food which are really good. I was greedy and ordered a small cup of chili and the Reuben. Both were delicious but I would recommend to share if you are a small eater or not that hungry. In the end I had half the Reuben in a doggy bag which was a good thing as it became my dinner when we got out too late (8.30pm) to hunt for food in the area and most restaurants were closed. I also tried the Yerba Mate tea which was supposed to be good for you. Unfortunately I didn't take to the taste (quite horrid to me, a bit bitter herbal taste) and left it mostly untouched. They are also known for their "green drink" which is a concoction of greens and I think that was what made me think this is a vegetarian restaurant. My friend liked that drink. The service is warm and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. It can get quite crowded but the wait for a free table was not very long when we were there. A must visit if you are a tourist visiting Blue Mountains.

After a "meh" experience at The Three Sisters lookout, I anticipated on not staying in the area and expected to not get food until I got back to Sydney, but thanks to the terrible traffic, we stuck around in this cute town. I quickly looked up a place to eat and there The Yellow Deli was, at the top of the places nearby. Although Katoomba is a small town filled with great cafes and restaurants, the line at The Yellow Deli is no joke. The 4 of us waited close to 45 minutes, and another 30 minutes for someone to actually come take our order, and additional time for food... Thankfully, it was worth it. We didn't go for anything complicated, as we just wanted to grab a quick bite and be on our way. We each had a Deli Lamb Sandwich with Mango Smoothies. I opted for the Strawberry Smoothie and it was so fresh, I couldn't stop drinking it, even though I didn't mind the brain-freeze at all. The Lamb Sandwich was excellent--I didn't expect the meat slices to be deli cut-styled, but then again, it is called The Yellow DELI. I've never had lamb meat deli slices, but rather thick, tender slices, so it was interesting in a good way. The chips were also fresh and crispy! What I didn't realize until getting back home in the States is that The Yellow Deli is an American cafe with 2 locations near me (in New York)! The menu is almost the exact same at every location, but I'm so glad we chose items that were not on the American menus. I fell in love with the cute, cozy ambiance of this place--it is the quintessential small town cafe I've always imagined myself in, except I traveled over 9,000 miles to discover this place when the closest one is a two-hour drive! Now I just wanna get in my car and start driving.

A warm & cosy retreat from the cold, with delicious food to boot! Rustic wood and leather decor create a warm and cabin-like atmosphere, a welcome retreat in winter. Food choices range from classic sandwiches and salads to soup of the day. There are a wide variety of both hot and cold drinks as well as desserts to top you off.

First off, you may want to know, Yellow Deli is owned/run by a religious group called the Twelve Tribes. I didn't realize until after we ate there. If that concerns you, move along now or google Twelve Tribes to make up your own mind. I'll wait... You are back? Great! Here is my review of the Yellow Deli. We were greeted promptly upon entering and seated. The atmosphere is really welcoming and cozy. It is really a unique place that makes you want to not rush your meal. It is hard to describe the interior, but it appears a lot of work went into it. Our order was taken promptly, but as others have said, service is not the fastest, but that is ok. I ordered a bowl of chili with jalapeno bread and my wife had a cup of chili. Portions were large. I could have ordered a cup and it would have been enough. Much larger than I am used to in the US. The chili had the basics of good chili. tomato, meat, and beans, but it lacked any real flavor. Tasted more like tomato sauce than anything. A little seasoning would have gone a long way here. The bread was good with bits of jalapeno. Could tell it as homemade. We ordered the carrot cake for dessert. It was not what we expected. Frosting was somewhat sour, not sweet, and the cake was not layered. It was more like a spice cake. We had read that it was a family restaurant and when we paid our bill, they said they had a restaurant in our home state. They have some restaurants across the US and Canada. That got me using google and discovered that they were all run by the Twelve Tribes. It was an interesting experience.

Our tour guide recommended this place as they grow all their own produce and have reasonable prices. Sydney has not been cheap, so I was happy to see some good affordable food in this quaint town. I got the green juice which comes in this frosted mug which was delicious! Doesn't taste too leafy and had the perfect amount of sweetness. My friend and I shared the tofu burger with a veggie bowl. The tofu burger came with cheese, sprouts, cucumbers, tomatoes, and mustard. I was starving and inhaled my half. It was too good! The veggies (small portion size) were dressed with their house dressing which was also fantastic. I feel like food tastes so much better when it's all made in-house. This place has a real home town country feel to it and I'm diggin' it. Lots of wood furnishings - I felt like I was walking up a treehouse when I got sat upstairs. Definitely a place worth checking out after a long day hiking through Blue Mountains.

With its raked wooden ceiling, uniquely shaped natural tables and wood fire place this restaurant is a magical experience that mere words and photos cannot capture. It's like walking into a fairy tale that exists within a log cabin. The level of detail in the meals shows the amount of care and craft that is taken in each and every dish. Truly lovely service, the staff are a friendly bunch. The hot drinks rekindle a warm fire inside your belly on a cold morning. The food is filling and tastes outstanding. One place that I'll remember dearly and hope to visit again soon.

Oh yelp has competition here. I searched on tripadvisor and there were 285 reviews for this place! My friend and I were searching for a good place to eat lunch near the Blue Mountains and honestly nothing could be found on yelp! SO, I'll add another review. Yay! First, The Yellow Deli or The Common Ground Cafe reminded me of a hobbits home or a smurf's house! It was cozy with wooden decor, wooden tables, a fireplace and and light shades made out of wooden buckets. You're honestly partially paying for the ambiance and atmosphere here because it feels like you walked into another village or some magical mushroom home. Secondly, I ordered a hot roast beef sandwich ($9.50) and it came with chips (not fries) and shared it with my friend who ordered a lamb sandwich with lettuce and tomatoes ($9.50). I would argue that you should the lamb deli sandwich because the roast beef sandwich had too much ketchup so you lose the flavor of the roast beef. The portions are decently sized however I would say it's a bit pricey for a sandwich and a few chips. But, like I said, you're partially paying for the atmosphere. They also serve breakfast items, but we didn't try them. After a nice hike from the blue mountains, this is definitely worth going for at least a cup of coffee (I was hoping for a cappuccino, but they only had lattes) You'll seriously enjoy the coziness.

So where to begin ... ok let's start with the really great and cozy athmosphera they made with the decoration and the hand made tsbles. By the first look the owners look like hippies from the 70s but I would be unfair to judge them because of their appearance. They are really friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely awesome and delicious. I ordered the Deli Rose Sandwich which was honestly the best sandwich I have ever eaten in a restaurant. I had the Poboys in New Orleans, the New York Club Sandwich but the Deli Rose is the one to die for

I absolutely loved Yellow Deli for it's soothing music, healthy food, quaint interior design and courteous wait staff. I felt like I was walking into Frodo Baggins' home. Another aspect of the deli that I like was the positive phrases painted on the wall, which made good reading while waiting for our food to be served. (^_^) My friend who has been there a few times told me a unique story. Apparently, the Yellow Deli was founded by an Amish community who are peace lovers, lead a self sustaining lifestyle and do not adopt modern technology. They grow their own vegetables, rear their own livestocks and bake their own bread for the deli. (That was extremely interesting to me because I came from Malaysia) Yellow Deli's food, especially the sandwiches, are simply awesome. I've never ever tasted such delicious sandwich in my entire life. Head over to the Yellow Deli. It is a feast for your eyes and stomach. You will not regret it.

- Healthy, mostly vegetable menu. - $15 approximate spend pp. - Suits single diners as well, cosy nooks suit lots of different group sizes (see fireplace). Garden burger was amazing, soup was amazing, it was warm lit and cozy warm... A real find (see crochet wall hangings and wooden EVERYTHING). It was worth the downhill walk and is really a beautiful place- can't wait to come here again to try something else! Extra note: the only thing That showed me this was run by a group other than the expected bipartisan cafe owner (should they exist) is on the front of the menu. I'm guessing this is the religious group that lives in the mountains and serves amazing chai lattes at woodford in their deconstructable cabin...but I'm not sure. No one talked to me other than normal friendly service so before anyone makes comments about they're affiliations I'd point out I think it took them TOO long to serve me. (See 4 stars).

I've been to the Common Ground once before and I have to say that I'm a big fan of their Pumpkin Soup - though it isn't always available as they only have a 'Soup of the Week'. I was fortunate in my visit today as this week was Pumpkin! The portion size comes in either "In a mug" or "Large" (Bowl). The mug size is perfect, thought I ordered the bowl thinking I was hungry. The portion was too big for me to finish. I've provided some photos. They also have great coffees. I'm not sure about the background of it, but I think I overheard them telling another patron that they source them from their Brazil commune/location. I remember having a good coffee last time too, so they seem consistent. I've heard that their Nachos are good too. I haven't tried their other menu items. The one thing I would stress when visiting this location is to have an open mind about it all. The people are nice, the man that took our order looked genuinely delighted at our reaction when heard Pumpkin soup was on offer. They don't force any ideas upon their guests, unless you ask questions. We arrived at ~11:20am and were politely asked to wait by the fire whilst they checked if they had a free table for the group of 4, as they were already busy by then. I don't think you would want to visit here if you had a group larger than 6 people as they don't have a lot of big tables. They have lots of space for groups of 1/2/4 etc, it's just the bigger groups might have to wait for a large enough space to become available. By 12pm on Sunday it was very busy and numerous people were waiting for tables in the entrance area. In the end, I like the food at Common Ground Cafe.

Bookmarked this place for quite awhile now (almost 4 months) and decided to drop by after the scenic world which is approximately 10 minutes away. Unlike other cafes which provides a combination of rustic or modern interior design, this place reminds me more like hobbit's home. Inside the store, the furnitures selected are of different design, types of wood and colors. But each pieces were chosen pretty wisely and it was stunning combination which you will see upon entering this cafe. While the servers prepare your seat, you will be asked to sit next to the fireplace (perfect for winter weather). We then were ushered to the seats next to where the beverages are being prepared, next to the entrance. Before coming here, I thought this place only open till around 3pm but fortunately that wasn't the case and we were able to drop by after our trip at the scenic world. The sandwiches and the breakfast menu on the back caught my eyes the most. Decided to go for lambwich which was under the brekkie menu. And for the drink, hot apple cider was excellent for the chilly winter weather. The dish was pretty flavorful. It looked big from the outside but it was pretty good for one person. I love the buns as well as the egg rolls. Definitely a good choice on my part as I was craving for breakfast related dishes and definitely a bonus when it is offered all day long. The hot apple cider was good too. The cinnamon powder on the top adds more flavor to the apple cider. Overall, I enjoyed my meal and was definitely a good experience at this cafe. There are some grocery shops nearby as well as backpacker accommodation next door. Definitely one of the hidden gems in Katoomba :)

Conveniently located across the road from Aldi Firstly, hours have changed for March 2026. They're now open Sunday to Friday and closed on Saturday. Here are the opening hours and quiet/busy times. Sunday * 12pm to 7pm Monday * 10am - 7pm Tuesday * 10am - 7pm Wednesday * 10am - 7pm Thursday * 10am - 7pm Friday * 10am - 3pm Saturday * Closed This review will probably change to five stars when I go. Still, I'm a big online fan because otherwise I can spend half a day looking for somewhere to eat. And the online menu does say they love people with allergies. However there is no mention of gluten or gluten free on the menu. Maybe this is related to the tightening of Australian rules into "gluten friendly" rather than gluten free. Since their specialty is hot sandwiches, I'm up in the air on the gluten front. If they will allow choosing from the sides and extras menu, that would be perfect. I also like how many of their prices have stayed reasonable, with five dollar coffees, I don't know if I can eat them but their egg sandwiches for Brekky look positively dreamy. read more
What a find!!! After seeing the Three Sisters, we took the shuttle back into town for some lunch. My fellow Yelpers did not let me down. What a unique interior- hard to explain but almost like being on a ship. They told us they have a business in Alaska and fish for their own salmon and transport it here so of course I had to try the special. It was fantastic. Can't eat it like a sandwich so ask for a fork :) Hubs had the Deli Rose and loved it. Ate every bit. Friendly service, lots of languages spoken here. Loved it Aussie 43.50 read more

Great down to earth food and food items! The meal was AMAZING! Definitely must try this place if you're around the area. The servings are pretty large, relative to some of the places in the states. The desserts are probably not sharable except for the carrot cake, which is pretty huge! read more

Would definitely recommend looking into the Twelve Tribes and reading about them to understand what this place is. It's honestly terrifying and a religious cult. On the other side, WOW this cult can make amazing sandwiches and mango ice teas for a great price! The sand which almost made me want to join the cult myself just to see how they make an omelette into perfection. Bottomline, my intuition and tastebuds are in a fight right now. read more

Very cozy with beautiful interior design. The prices are super fair considering the proportion. Go for the non vegetarian burgers. Fish burger is alright but the roast beef burger was the best food among all. Coffee was pretty good. What a cosy escape from the cold! All the booths are unique and made of gorgeous wood, giving the whole place a feel of dining in a fairy glen. The food is American deli style complete with side of crisps and pickle. I HIGHLY recommend the beef sandwich. It was probably the best sandwich I've had ever. Soooo tasty. It seems like all the food here is quite good and reasonably good for you. They also do great value fresh organic juices. The deli is run by a religious group (twelve tribes) making it an overall interesting experience. read more

Wow! Was a gem of a find. The fee and decor of this place reminded me of Hobbiton from Lord of the Rings with leather and wooden furniture and multiple rooms at all levels from a converted hotel. The chili I got came with homemade bread with Jalapeno and a root beer. My partner had the pumpkin soup with a frozen mango smoothie. I highly recommend this place and will be back again. read more

Lovely little restaurant. Each table is tucked in a semi-private corner, either with a window or with nice lighting, clearly well thought of arrangement. We only grabbed coffees and sandwiches to go. One of the best dining experiences I've ever had while traveling as a vegan! Cider? DELICIOUS. Carab cocoa stuff? AMAZING. I couldn't believe how tasty all the food was, even the lentil soup! Who gets blown away by lentil soup?? The people who eat here, that's who. Aside from the spectacular menu, the enchanting atmosphere is more magical and immersive than any restaurant you'd find at Disneyland. Every booth feels like part of a storybook (I had the frog table which had little homes and holes for toy frogs in the wood). If I didn't live all the way across the world, I'd eat here every week. read more

The best sandwiches! Highly recommend Ruben sandwich and green drink. Great localization and awesome decor. Be prepared to wait in line for a few minutes. Totally worth it. read more

The first time I stumbled across this cafe I thought I'd walked onto the set of the Hobbit. The place was crowded but we spotted an opening and grabbed a wood carved table nook by the window. Apparently, self-direction is discouraged and we were asked to move, having upset their indecipherable seating system. Sitting with coffees we grew perturbed. The women staff all had long hair and were devoid of any adornment. The men all had facial hair and overall looked like it was 1973. There's a mural upstairs of a beach with the words 'Eternity is a long, long time' painted around it. Eep. We'd walked into Alternative Religious Persuasion land. A friend asked me to meet her there some time later. A folk festival afficianado, she'd recognised their name from festivals where they unfold flatpack versions of the cafe. She and her husband ordered off the menu 'green frog' drinks that looked like they were swallowing a pond. The food is an odd mix of culturally elsewhere items - chips are described as 'crisps' and the Reuben sandwich seems right out of New York. I fear it's a sign of impending world domination. I went back the other day to see if I could find out more about them. I've been fretting about writing this review, not wanting to belittle someone's religious choices. It would be easy to slam the place with a barbed quip or two, but really, I'm just sad. Sitting in the facade-thin, overproduced environment drinking ok chai, it's hard not to feel like I could be up on charges for Financially Supporting Polygamy one day. I pocketed one of their Twelve Tribes pamphlets which told me nothing bar they like to quote from the Old Testament a lot. It's hard to feel welcome in a place where the staff won't look you in the eye and you feel like the Whore of Babylon for wearing a bit of lipstick. At least that day, there was a distinct lack of smiling and a disinclination to touch my hand when giving back my change. It just made me want to cry. I wish there was something I could do for the people working there. There was an aura of desperate sadness which belied their pamphlets. I won't be back, and I can't in all good conscience, recommend it. read more

Okay. Five stars just to offset that one star review. In reality I would give them a good, solid four stars. Stayed in Katoomba for three nights and ate a couple meals here (Cranberry Salad? Yes please!)-And grabbed our morning coffee (our lady perfectly steamed the milk.) Yes, they do have an agenda behind what they do, but it is non offensive and has a beautiful message and they in no way push it on you. You get curious and talk to them. The bottom line is the food is delish, organic, healthy, and refreshing after...everything else I had in Sydney. Read local reviews and you'll get the real deal. The decor is charming! Go! Go Go GO! read more
A very relaxed and Earthy atmosphere. It is a great place for a calm meal up in the mountains. The staff and decor has a cool hippy feel to it. The menu boasts a fine selection of healthy food. I had the chicken sandwhich and it was delicious. read more
If you should ever find yourself in Katoomba on a cold, cloudy and drizzly day, The Yellow Deli will surely warm the cockles of your heart. In a space that looks somewhat like a tree house the food matches the decor. That is, it is rustic, homely and all things comfort. With a mix of sandwiches and soups to choose from I went with the classic Reuben and paired it with a hot apple cider. Now when I say the sandwich was fresh, I mean it. The bread - warm and soft as if it has just been sliced straight from the oven. Paired with all the essential ingredients of a good and true Rueben; a true delight! If all your seeking is a quite and cosy space to sit by your lonesome or with a travel buddy you love, I'd highly recommend popping into The Yellow Deli. read more

Alright, let's get one thing straight. Don't come here impatient. These people make good food but it takes time so just sit back and plan your time accordingly. Don't be in a rush - you are in the mountains. The wait staff are lovely and welcoming. I brought my cousins here from OS and they found the whole thing great with lovely food and pleasant outlook into the street on a lazy Sunday. If I'm up in the mountains again any time soon, I'll definitely take whoever is with me back to the Yellow Deli. It's just remarkably pleasant. Chips with the sandwiches! read more
On entering this place it felt like I had entered a parallel universe, a cross between Alice in Wonderland and a Bavarian ski chalet. There were plenty of interesting things to see. It was cosy inside and the fire was a welcome change from the cold and rain. The service was friendly and the food arrived promptly. As far as the food goes the chilli was good but the sandwich was a bit greasy. It has a limited menu but seems to do it pretty well. Clearly the mate tea takes a while to get use to.....it wasn't my fave. read more
We came here following an afternoon in the Blue Mountains. My boyfriend had the veggie burger with a side salad, which was topped with fresh cut peppers - yum! I had a delicious green tea Yerba Mate, which, after visiting their website, I learned is from http://TribalTrading.com.au. As a tea lover, it was great to see the source listed! I also treated myself to a piece of cheesecake which was much larger than I expected, and I was pleasantly surprised. The food was all organic and made with care and love. The restaurant is owned and managed by members of the Twelve Tribes, so each table has pamphlets about the group and their beliefs; the information is shared in a gentle, non-intrusive way. I highly recommend an open-minded visit on a relaxing afternoon. read more

The best place for lunch after a hike in the Blue Mountains. Loved the menu and vibe of this organic, throw-back cafe/deli. Shout out to the staff who are friendly and kind. Thanks, Yellow Deli! read more
I absolutely love this place, especially on a cold day when you can step inside and warm up with a coffee and hot sandwich. And it's the sandwiches that star here with both the Reuben and Deli Rose being my faves. Soft soft bread, lots of going soft cheese, layers of meat and great little gherkin on the side. Staff are lovely, polite and helpful. A really cool cafe. read more

First of all, BEAUTIFUL VIBES in here. Secondly, the staff was exceptionally kind and the food was all on point. I had the lamb burger and it wasn't too gamy for being lamb..the sides were terrible because they literally give you a piece of a carrot, a piece of a tomato, and a piece of cucumber. If available, try the chili soup. It will change your life...its meaty and cheesy and amazing. Tea is also very nice, it comes in little tea kettles with loose tea leaves and it just feels so nice and cosy when it's cold out. Also, all the pastries are fresh and mouth watering to say the least. Hope you enjoy as much as I did! Cheers! read more

Maybe avoid if you're BLACK! I stopped by this café for lunch--food was decent, but the atmosphere felt a bit off. Later, I looked into the place and found out it's run by a religious group known as the Twelve Tribes, which has been widely criticized for promoting racist and anti LGBTQI beliefs, including the idea that Black people are destined to serve white people. Here's a news article that goes into more detail. https://www.mercurynews.com/2022/03/08/twelve-tribes-cult-racist-colorado-fire/amp/ Personally, I wouldn't recommend it--especially if you're a person of colour. read more
