One fantastic restaurant that has great service and great food. I met someone for a business dinner. The dining room is intimate and inviting. The waiters are very attentive and don't rush you. We started with some Veal Barley soup and a salad. So flavorful and good. The salad was dressed perfectly and was fresh. I also had their signature Old Fashioned which was really good. Not too strong or sweet. My friend had the Matilda beer from Belgium. They have an excellent wine, beer and spirits list. For dinner I decided to try the Cioppino while my friend had the Eggplant Parmesan. The Cioppino had tons of seafood, was cooked perfectly, no rubbery calamari or overcooked seafood. Next time I"ll ask for a spicer red sauce as I like my to have a kick. My friend loved his eggplant and said had the best preparation of it that he has tried. For dessert we had the Tiramisu which was fresh, a large portion for sharing and soooooo good. I will definitely be back. Fantastic evening all around. read more

Hadn't been to Cafe Lucci in a while and now question why?! Food was excellent and service was very attentive. We shared a wonderful Malbec. Arugula salad was big enough to share. Eggplant Parmesan was among the best we've ever had, lamb chops were delectable and accompanying roast potatoes were crisp on the outside, soft on the inside. Their chocolate gelato is to die for! Cafe Lucci was a unanimous favorite of the family for a suburbs italian restaurant, and trust me, we've been to many. We came for Mother's Day- my mother had remembered this restaurant from more than 20 years ago and was glad it still held its excellent taste. Our service was great, as was our waiter to our many demands. We started with the burrata, clams, and scallops. All were delicious- the burrata being my favorite of the three. Our drinks were great with the food too. We shared a bunch of entrees including the linguine with clams, halibut special, seafood stew, and filet mignon Oscar with the tricolore salad and house salad. Though no one else liked the filet mignon Oscar, the other entrees were delicious and flavorful. This place seems to be doing really well after all these years for good reason- will be back with our family sometime soon most likely! read more

The Covid dining experience has challenged many restaurants. Cafe Lucci has risen to the challenge and surpassed expectations. Their heated patio/tent area while "rustic" offers everything you would expect from a 5 star restaurant. From the friendly and helpful valet to the amazingly efficient and caring hostesses, Cafe Lucci did not miss a beat in making us feel welcomed. Seating was well spaced and heaters were plentiful. The noise level was fine and all employees were masked and respectful of space. And the food. Oh the food. The pork chops were sublime, the gnocchi was expertly cooked and well sauced and the sea bass special was flaky and fork tender. The pasta dishes were beyond our expectations both in flavor and size. And this is one dining experience where desert is a must. The tiramisu was a delight, the triple chocolate cheesecake and chocolate mousse cake were rich and delicious. If this wasn't enough the service was impeccable. There was never a moment where we didn't feel pampered. And all this was done while still making us feel exceedingly comfortable. The owner wandered the floor and ensured that all guests were happy but never imposed himself on the table. The chef made appearances throughout the night to make sure everyone was happy and enjoying the food. This is now at the top of our list for must visit restaurants. We plan on becoming regular diners and highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a comfortable finer dining experience in the northwest suburbs. read more

Bobby (owner) is Mr. Hospitality! Cafe Lucci catered our 10/10/20 outdoor wedding to perfection. Working out details with Bobby was a breeze and made everything stress free and seamless. He was able to accommodate a menu to our choosing that satisfied all! We had a few covid sensitive attendees and Cafe Lucci relieved any and all concerns with their attention to safety with individually packed bags/containers for each person. Food arrived on time, at the correct temperature and was beyond delicious! Portions were also very generous. Menu Bread / Roasted Garlic Spread (Spread is so mind blowing can just eat this & be completely satisfied) Grilled Calamari (side for everyone) Pasta Melanzane (side for everyone) Chicken Piccata (entree choice) Lamb Chops (entree choice) Pasta Melanzane (entree choice) We continuously received comments from guests that the food was tremendously better than prior experiences with catered wedding dinners. We tried each other dishes. I can't Even describe how good the food was. The veal was so tender, great flavor. Lobster ravioli- the best, homemade, with fresh lobster meat. So so so good! This was such an amazing place! I went here for Valentine's Day with a significant other and I was impressed that a place I always passed by going to work that I never noticed was so good! The starter bread they gave us was very soft and fresh. We then ordered the SALSICCIA CON PEPPERONCINI which was an Italian sausage dish with assorted green, yellow, and red peppers. I loved the sausages they were tasty and not too salty. As a side dish I got the shrimp bisque special WHICH WAS AMAZING. I've never had anything like that before! For my main course I got the cacio el pepe which sounded basic on paper, but was delicious when trying it! It was a spaghetti with white cream butter and black pepper. It was very similar to a carbonara pasta, and I was able to add meat so I added crushed sausage bites. We ordered a side of wine which was a great compliment to the pastas. Our previous visit here was eons ago, when Lucci boasted the "best lasagna on the North Shore." After seeing more recent reviews and observing crowds flocking here, it was time to give it another go. The dining rooms were busy on the weeknight of our visit. Several customers appeared to be regulars. With white napery and a clubby vibe, the rooms are more upscale than we remembered. Lasagna does not even appear on the current menu. In fact, the pasta dishes are fairly sophisticated, but the kitchen gladly accommodates those who prefer plain ol' spaghetti & meatballs (or gluten-free dishes). A chalkboard lists daily specials. There is an extensive wine list and the a la carte menu is weighted towards pricey steak and seafood entrees. Knowledgeable and smartly attired servers deliver polished, well-orchestrated service. All items are attractively plated. Our dinner began with standard-issue Italian bread (served room temperature) with ramekins of garlic spread and giardiniera. A fried calamari appetizer was well executed but less than perfect (we suspect the squid did a bout in the freezer). The Caesar salad was an expert rendition of the old classic. Entrée portions were adeguato but non generoso. The delightfully aromatic chicken Vesuvio was marred by peas that were hard and dry and potato wedges that were clearly prepared earlier and reheated. Eggplant parmigiana was very good but not exceptional. Ironically, two desserts--banana coconut cake and cannoli--surpassed practically everything else we tasted. Salad, entrée, dessert and non-alcoholic beverage plus tax and tip cost approximately $50 per person. I wish I could say "I love Lucci," but at this price point the quality of the food did not quite meet our expectations. Several other Italian eateries in the north 'burbs offer better value. read more

We ate at Cagfe Lucci's last night with friends and the dinner was outstanding. I have pasta and it was amazing. Others in the party had fish, lamb chops you name it and we all left with smiles. I took 15 people to dinner here last night for a client and engineer work event. It was incredible, the food, service, ambiance. The staff were spectacular. I will take clients and colleagues here again, absolutely. The appetizer "SALSICCIA CON PEPPERONCINI" was most excellent. Delicious variety of fresh Italian dishes! Started off with a glass of smooth Pinot noir and some amazing appetizers- Salmone Pastrami, Burrata & Grilled Calamari. All were fresh and so tasty! The salmone pastrami was fresh with some herbed cream cheese under lying on top of a thin potato pancake. The Burrata was also fresh and tasty, and the grilled calamari was tender. Moved on to cavatelli contadina which was definitely house made and delicious, lots of flavor. Topped all the deliciousness off with some chocolate mousse cake and banana coconut cake. They have a beautiful, large tent with heaters and even some fancy chandeliers hanging in the tent. Lovely atmosphere and amazing service. $ 28 for a "half" of a petrified chicken?!? See for yourself. The "chicken leg" was only the size of the tines of my fork. As you can see, the texture was dry and almost impossible to get the meat off of the bones. Banquet frozen chicken is more appetizing. Again $ 28 for a hospital-worthy chicken without any starch. Here's what we discovered coming to this restaurant for the first time: we've found a reliable Italian restaurant! We kept it simple--a glass of chianti along with Cavatelli Contadina for me and gluten-free penne with meat sauce for my partner. Bravo! I'd not had Cavatelli before. It's a thick noodle which might get pasty or overcooked. Might, but didn't--perfect! The sauce was a classic mix of ground sausage and mushroom. If we go Italian, gluten-free is essential for my partner. From host to waiter, each made clear that gluten-free was easily available. And if the choice would be difficult g-f, they'd steer us away from the choice. This is exactly what is looked for! Bravo again! read more

So, here's the scoop. My husband and I went here for an anniversary dinner on a weeknight. We loved our pasta entrees, and they even comped our dessert for the occasion - how nice! Our server was good, but I think he was over-busy. He had at least another 2 top and a table of 8 next to us. They arrived much later, and yet we still didn't leave until just prior. Our total time there was 2 hours! I'm giving this a 3 because while I enjoyed the food the ambiance was less than. The lights are dim, but I couldn't help see that the carpets are very old and worn and dirty. The table we sat at clearly had something spill all over the wall and had attempted to be wiped off, but still displayed a semi-glossy smear. I felt like there are minor things that could be done to really make this place top notch (maybe some fabric covered sound panels on the wall and even little candles on the tables). However, it seems to be one of those places that won't change because they have their clientele and are set in their ways. It's not likely we'll be back but again, the entrees we had we did enjoy. read more

I really liked the atmosphere and the friendly but professional service here. The foods were wonderful and so as the wine options are. Risotto with lobster was really good and exceeded my expectation. The reason for 4 and not 5 was that I didn't feel some of the dishes I ordered weren't authentic Italian dishes and I was a little bit disappointed by the beef carpaccio. Cafe Lucci is one of my favorite spots for dinner in the north burbs. If the hot, crusty loaf of bread served with pureed garlic (and some cold olive carrot mix that is not as great as the garlic) isn't a great start to a meal, I don't know what is. On my last visit, I devoured a winner of a dish - the double cut porkchop. Super juicy and meaty, it was heaven on a bone! K's veal with portabella mushrooms and cream of mushroom soup got 2 thumbs up from him. This last dinner was excellent and much, much better than my previous one (just a week earlier). Everything we had had for our entrees - the veal tarragon special, pesto penne, and halibut - was salty. K and I chalked it up to maybe the B team manning the kitchen that night. So Italian food is a staple food group for me. Ive had it all over the world. Of course there is nothing like food in Italy, but my expectations for Italian food are Americanized when speaking about Italian food here. There are some that are really really good.. (Doms in the North End in Boston) and some really bad (Olive Garden). Cafe Lucci is probably right on par.. MAYBE a step below Olive Garden. Heres why.. So took a shot and ordered delivery tonight from a "new place". Wanted to support a local business for "date night" at home. We ordered gnocchi bolognese ($20 each), meatballs ($8 each) and my husband got an additional sausage added to his pasta ($4). Because of the price, $81 including tip and delivery, I was expecting something amazing. I mean.. 80 bucks for 2 pastas and 2 meatballs, i should see the canals of venice in my mind while eating. Guess what?? NOPE! So the portion was.. ehh. Decent. It came with a small container filled with crushed garlic in olive oil. Strange. I set it aside. My guess is it was somehow for the loaf of bread they included on the side. But after i tasted the bolognese sauce i got it. OOOOOOOO... they included the garlic to add to the bland pasta i paid $20 for. I actually did that to try and make it better. Nope. My husband thought the same thing. The gnocchi was wayyyy overcooked (think gooey dough) and the sauce was super bland and watery.. it had no substance. The meatball was decent. A little more firm then its supposed to be but for $8 FOR 1 MEATBALL i expected something amazing. I really expected more. It looked so promising. I mean.. i saw Grana Padano mentioned on the menu! Only REAL italian places use that. ... at least Olive Garden has those good breadsticks and salad. Yikes. SORRY. I dont give bad reviews lightly. If this was maybe a $30 meal, OK. But for $81 no way. I am new to the area and tried Cafe Lucci by recommendation of a friend. It does not disappoint. First of all, the atmosphere is cozy with lovely white table clothes. Our server was great, did not rush us or try to push anything. I had Harry's Pasta and can say it was as good as anything I had ever had in Italy. The portions are decent size and you will leave satisfied. The atmosphere is friendly yet professional. I have been back now 3 times and each time like it even more. Their in house pastry chef has a great touch. I finally tried their other restaurant Bobby's and found it also wonderful, and am making plans to bring out of town guests. Another fabulous meal in early March. The fried calamari was crisp and tender, grilled octopus was amazingly tender-the best ever we have ever ordered. The mushroom soup was very creamy, was a bit too thick and needed a little more mushroom flavor. Pinenut (ground into flour) crusted grouper was crisp with a very moist and flaky fish and served with a very bright and flavorful tomato beurre blanc. The cioppino was a very, very large portion, with maybe a few too many mussels relative to the other components. Veal stuffed capellaci special was flavorful and served with a smoked mozzarella tomato sauce. The risotto had a perceptible saffron note and large enough for two. Two bone pork chop with giardiniera and sausages was spicy and delicious. It was prepared as a special off-menu order even though it was not being offered that day. Was in town for a long weekend. I stopped in for dinner and ate at the bar. They made the perfect Manhattan ... even down to the single block of ice. Those kinda details matter if you want it done right. I ordered the night special of braised short rib gnocchi and it was excellent!! The gnocchi was soft and tender, and the meat was delicious. Closed out the meal with their Death By Chocolate dessert. It was the best tasting chocolate dessert I've had in a long time. Be sure to have their bread and garlic spread ... it's addicting. After reading Felice's review I felt compelled to write a review as I am also Asian about Cafe Lucci and the owner of the restaurant. While I felt the food was very good It's also quite expensive. I went here many years ago and had a very uncomfortable encounter with the owner which led me to never go back again. When we go to dinner we almost never drink and this night was no exception. First of all my wife has a very low tolerance to alcohol. She will take a few sips and tell me she is feeling dizzy from the effects of alcohol. I was also going through a DUI class at the time and part of the class requires that you don't drink during the 1 year classes. So anyway we were enjoying our meal and the owner was trying to up sell us and get us to buy a bottle of wine when I told him no thank you he made a reference to how cheap I was. I mean are you fuc-in kidding me? What If I was an alcoholic? I'm not, but regardless of wether I am or not this type of comment was totally uncalled for. Wow I am soooo sorry I never came here before. Didn't know. This was the best surprise feast in the burbs I've had in awhile. So fresh, tasty, authentic... felt like I was back in Tuscany. Great rigatoni with eggplant, divine pollo Vesuvio, dessert and espresso out of this world.... tricolore fresh with just right vinaigrette... fresh garlic dip and I hear the olives are great (my hubby). We met a friend here a couple of weekends ago and the place lives up to the great reviews. We each had different salads - from the beet to the arugula to the caesar and all were tasty and good portions. For entrees, we had the Cavatelli with crumbled sausage, pancetta, and chili flakes as well as the spaghetinni with garlic shrimp and pancetta.
