We arrived just in time for lunch. The service was wonderful and we were well taken care of. We had the Cuban sandwich and fries and the chicken salad. I typically always pull for the "hometown favorite". I was a little disappointed In The chicken salad. Although good it wasn't great, and it was sweet instead of savory. It was very sweet and made me have "sweet belly" (my name when you have a little too much sugar and get a little queasy). The Cuban was good and the fries were good. The serving size was also much better for the sandwich and fries over the salad. read more

Cafe' la Fleur was for several years Laurel's best dining option in my opinion. This was before the renaissance that downtown Laurel began experiencing about 5-6 years ago. It suffered a fire that closed it for over a year but it reopened earlier in 2019. Thankfully, it is back in business even though the restaurant competition has stiffened since then making this place now one of the better places to eat in town. It's still only open for lunch during the weekdays and then dinner on Friday and Saturday nights. Street parking in downtown is your only option but parking is free and usually you can find a place to park within a block or so of the restaurant. The dining area is in one room with exposed brick walls and some seating near the front windows. The menu is creole/cajun themed (see pics) with most items in the low teens $. My last visit was during Christmas week for lunch and I ordered the shrimp po boy that comes with fries. They give you the option to either fry or grill the shrimp and I chose grilled shrimp. I am so glad I did. It was delicious. While I like fried shrimp, this grilled shrimp po boy was what I will probably order at my next visit. The po boy looked kind of small to me but was actually quite filling so I was happy. The buttered and toasted French bread, lettuce and tomato really added to my enjoyment. Also my sweet potato fries (instead of regular fries) were very good in taste too. This was a very good satisfying meal and for $10 a real value. Table service was attentive. Excellent visit. The duck wontons were incredible. Unlike anything I have ever had. We ordered the redfish tacos, which were also very good, Deborah was a sweetheart and did a great job taking care of us, despite the restaurant being pretty busy at lunch. read more

This place has a nice ambiance inside an older building in downtown Laurel, MS and they have the potential to be the nicest restaurant in the area with a bit of work.  They serve nice portions of food here for the price and the service has usually been very attentive until recent times where it has unfortunately declined with the general shortage of service workers being the new normal in most places.  They advertise themselves as a New Orleans style restaurant but most of the dishes might be best described as New Orleans "influenced" as most of their dishes you won't find in New Orleans with a few exceptions like the blackened fish, shrimp creole, gumbo, and po boys.  The seafood gumbo on my past visits has been pretty good but it tastes like several others I've had outside of New Orleans but unlike any I've ever had in New Orleans so it makes me suspicious they might be using a pre-made roux and on my on my last visit the gumbo was AWFUL with no seafood in it along with it having a paste like consistency. On past visits I was also surprised that they didn't have creole mustard when I requested it. Cafe la Fleur currently has odd hours as they are only open for weekday lunch according to the posted hours on their door (Google says they are open Saturday while I discovered they were not) and only offer dinner service on Fridays so being closed on weekends seems to be losing out on a lot of business.  They have a decent amount of space inside and I don't understand why they don't have a bar here to accompany their extensive list of adult beverages as they would be able to seat more guests for meals along with offering an incentive for later hours fun simply by installing a bar (I think I remember there used to be a bar in this building so that is even more confusing as to why they would remove it). Overall, a decent spot to grab a good lunch and probably one of the better places to go in the area if you can catch them when they are open but I would be cautious of the seafood gumbo for now. The ribeye steak along with the steamed veggies was absolutely delicious. The chef cooked the steak exactly how I requested it, and it was tender and flavorful. Plus, the service from my waitress was great. I definitely recommend them and will visit again the next time I'm in Laurel. read more

If you're not from the south, esp the coast you'll probably enjoy the food. I had the shrimp pasta as I feel like it's an easy dish to master. The preparer did their job but I found the shrimp a little too fishy for my taste. (They're probably farmed and frozen). I would rather have gone to Olive Garden, had the same dish and gotten better service including breadsticks and salad. Now that i've mentioned service, lemme address that. The servers and wait staff were tripping over each other and the tables were set up poorly. I saw one lady set at a table where she was fenced in and her friend had to get up to allow her to go to the restroom. If I were the owner I'd decrease the tables to achieve a better work flow allowing more efficiency (over quantity). My spouse got the Brussel sprouts and redfish and they were underwhelming as well. The redfish tasted like a frozen product making it fishy. I honestly believe the Brussel sprouts were steamed w a dressing sparingly drizzled over them and weren't worth eating. PS please learn how to pronounce "muffuletta" if you're gonna call yourself "Cafe Le Fleur" and sell them. read more

Diablo burgers were fantastic! Best hamburger I've ever had! Fresh homemade roll, so soft and fresh! Crunchy flavorful char on the outside, thick lean High quality local beef, smoky thick cut bacon, spicy mayo with the pepper jack cheese thick tomato slice and lettuce was beyond delicious! thick cut fries with just the right amount of salt and seasoning. Made a day trip to Laurel (since I am obsessed with the "Hometown" show). We wandered around the adorable Main Street and came across this restaurant. We ended up waiting in line for a table for 30 minutes (granted it was a Saturday). We ordered the duck wontons and they were delicious! Highly recommend. I also had the chicken salad croissant. There was a lot of fruit in the chicken salad (apples and grapes) but it was pretty runny (which is why I couldn't give this restaurant 5 stars). It is a neat New Orleans ambiance though, and very close to the Laurel Mercantile. read more

The food was pretty good. I ordered the Bourbon Street Pasta. The pasta was cooked well, but it would have been better if the shrimp was grilled. The shrimp was boiled in the sauce and the texture was a little spongy. The sauce was nice and creamy. I would have liked a little more "kick" to it, but it was still really good. Walked in at a busy time, but they were able to seat us in less than 10 minutes. Shared a steak burger. It was cooked to perfection; great char flavor and a bit pink in the m middle! The fries were on the large side with parsley and subtle seasoning. We shared a side salad with house made ranch. Lots of real bacon bits, and a great mixture of greens. I couldn't resist the bread pudding for dessert (it is a New Orleans style cafe!) and it was some of the best I've had. Warm, tender, a little fluffy still, a caramel sauce and lots of whipped cream. Amazing food and service. Everything tasted clean, well seasoned and cooked to perfection. Tried the roast beef poboy. They have real crackled poboy bread and the beef is seared beautifully. I got the gravy on the side. Also tried the fries and the fried okra. The okra was amazing. It is not greasy or over salted like most places it was the best I've had in a restaurant in a long time. The crawfish flatbread was well done. The sauce was creamy and full of crawfish flavor. Tried the banana fosters cheesecake and the blueberry cobbler cheesecake. Didn't mind the 1 1/2 hr wait for food, so much as the food. Where do I begin? Shrimp, standard soggy out of the bag frozen shrimp, soggy French fries. A group of four of us were visiting Laurel and stumbled across this place on Saturday at lunch (yes it is open on Saturday). Two of us had the Mardi Gras Poboys which is like a shrimp Po boy but added fried jalapeño slices, grilled onions, and andouille sausage pieces. We rate that excellent. The only problem is that it was so overstuffed it was hard to get it to stay together to eat it. I had to resort to a knife and fork. This Baton Rouge by loved it! Another in our group had the half muffaletta. It was respectable. My wife had the Frenchman roast beef poboy with gravy. She liked it. Bottom line is, I love this place. It's the 4th of July and not too many restaurants are open in downtown Laurel but I'm sure glad this place is! The ambiance is nice and quaint. Love the inside of this historic building. I wish I could give half a star more. It wasn't quite five stars but so close. Our server was great! We started with their special, a cheese appetizer. This was a fried yellow cheese that was very good. The we shared a ribeye and baked potato and salad. The salad was mixed fresh greens, cucumber (one ) slice and a quarter of a tomato. This was our second time at Cafe la Fleur for Lunch.While our food was suburb we were really disappointed in the service from our waitress on or first visit back in June. Ironically we had the same waitress this past Friday. She obviously must have been having a bad day on our last visit to la Fleur. We decided to come here for dinner after reading reviews and it was not great. First, they brought my daughter's grilled cheese out and it was completely burnt. I am not one to send food back, but I did send this back. Second one was better. If you're looking for wine and cocktails, don't come here. They only have about 5 bottled beers. I ordered crab cakes, which were actually decent, except they were covered with sauce on top and you really lost the crab taste in all the sauce. The hostess was very nice, but waitress did not know what they had in the restaurant. I could tell that she was a newer waitress. I order a Poboy sandwich and fries. After I order the meal the waitress comes out and said they are out of the bread for the poboy sandwich and I told her that was fine. The shrimp appetizer is to die for with a GREAT portion size. My boyfriend loves the burgers and chicken Alfredo. The side salad is the best side salad anywhere. I love the shrimp bisque even though it has a thicker consistency I hope they never change it. My favorite spot downtown hands down. read more
