After a visit to the Viking Ship Museum, you can actually get a taste of Viking-inspired cuisine at Cafe Knarr, a step up from a typical museum cafe with generic sandwiches and salads. The Viking Plank was a sampler platter that came with smoked halibut slices, creamy chicken salad, pulled pork, cured ham, cabbage salad, Nordic cheese (Vesterhavsost) with berry compote, and two kinds of homebaked bread. My favorite components were the smoked halibut, the chicken salad, and the pulled pork, but everything was tasty, high-quality, and came with a gastronomic history lesson. The service at this cafe was super friendly too, and the outdoor tables made for a beautiful setting to enjoy the views of the harbor featuring the museum's reconstructions of Viking ships! read more
