Disclaimer: I live in Gig Harbor but also lived and was stationed in Hawaii for 4 years. Found out about this place a couple years ago after moving from Oahu and was craving Hawaiian food (other than L&L). Found out about this place and decided to take a drive-(mind you my initial visit was over a year ago-guess you can say "Pre-COVID-19"-however I was just there yesterday so I wanted to provide a review) and grab some "grindz". First off, they are known for their Musubis (if you're unsure of what this is, Google it). Living in Hawaii, you're used to the typical-spam; teriyaki spam; and spam/egg Musubi. At Cafe Kai, they have taken Musubis to a new level! I was pleasantly surprised at the variety of musubis they offer-my wife loves the spicy tuna, they boys devour the teriyaki spam, and I love their spam, bacon and avocado (who knew that would be an awesome combo!?); then again, bacon does go with everything! Unfortunately I did not take any photos of the tuna or bacon/spam/avocado musubi but I'm sure there are other photos here. They also serve a really refreshing Plantation Iced Tea (please DO NOT take any offense to the name of the tea-I've seen some comments on their FB page about this so before casting judgement, they-Cafe Kai-DID NOT name the drink-look up the drink's Hawaiian origin). They have other items BUT the caveat is, you probably want to get there early if you're looking for a certain Musubi, like the bacon/egg or spam/bacon/egg. They also serve coffee (which I haven't tried) and have some desserts. All in all, I strongly recommend this place if: A. You love Musubi; B. Love spam; C. Love anything Hawaiian. We tried this place today and were delighted. You do need to know where it is because there didn't seem to be any sign stating its name. The entrance is at the back of the building. When we were there they seem didn't offer any inside seating; we just took our food out to the car and consumed it in their parking lot which turned out just fine. I had the Spicy Chicken and my wife the Spam, bacon and avocado sandwich. FANTASTIC and I didn't even know what I was ordering! Definitely coming back--soon! read more

The folks here are super nice! Love walking into their small but very well lit space with all the plants they have that make a cute picturesque corner! There are times I wish i would be able to get myself there earlier as sometimes they sell out of the bacon avocado spam during their lunch rush but I love they they have a drive through and the grab n go makes it so easy! The spicy tuna roll is massive though so definitely gotta sit down to eat it! Bremerton is so far away. I've said it to myself over and over. The Kitsap Fast Ferry made the ride a bit shorter. In 28 short minutes, I can get from Pier 50 in Seattle to Bremerton. From there, I've caught the bus once and called an Uber once to get to Cafe Kai. Is it worth the trip? Yes, it is! Growing up on the Big Island, there was never a shortage of musubi. As Brandon, one of the owners notes, we can always get musubi at 7-11, something you can't do here. A hardworking family runs this cafe during the week serving up multiple varieties of musubi and tasty beverages. My favorite so far is the spam, bacon, and avocado. Savory, a bit sweet, and rich - each bite makes me want more! The teri spam musubi reminds me of Earl's on the Big Island. Marinated chicken thighs is the best with rice and nori! Did I mention the rice? It's a big bite so open wide!!! Other types of musubi like hot dog (red Redondos) and kalua remind me of being back home. As for drinks, the plantation tea is a bit sweet and a bit brisk and goes down very easy. They make their own coffee jello which is perfect in coconut milk. On any given day, you may have a chance to grab haupia or chocolate haupia pie. Get it if you can! The chocolate haupia pie was bigger than I expected but again, took me back home in a hurry! read more

First time trying spam musubi, spicy tuna is hands down the best IMO! It's cooked tuna and not raw. I'm not the biggest fan of spam but still enjoyed the bacon avocado. They have a good variety with sausage and spicy tuna, which both do not have spam. Heard that the earlier you come the better because they sell out quick. read more

Finally got to try their musubis here! Spicy tuna is definitely a must try! It's served in a styrofoam container if you're getting it to go. I also had their plantation tea, so good! Reminds me of home! Their teriyaki spam is also good as well. They also serve chocolate Haupia Pie or just regular haupia which I haven't tried yet. Cute little shop with several seating areas. The decorations are nicely done. Service is okay there, not very sociable but eh I've had worse service elsewhere. They're located in the parking lot of the doctors clinic in Bremerton. Jamie is awesome! This is one of my favorite little spots in Kitsap, and I seriously cannot get enough. My go-to order for Musubi is a teriyaki spam and a spicy chicken (one for now, one for later, Yanno? Just trust me, one is not enough they are so delicious). For drinks the plantation iced tea ALWAYS slaps, but I love the milk tea with coffee jello the most (think like boba, but coffee jello!). They also offer lots of dairy alternatives. Jamie works really hard and always has a smile even when the line is nine cars deep (yep, it's THAT good!), so sometimes the wait can be long. But it is always worth it. I was visiting some friends of mine and they took me to this cute little cafe! My friend and I shared each of the flavors of musubi and I was blown away by how fresh and tasty they were. My personal favorite was the tuna musubi! It was quite large and there was plenty of tuna and rice to go around. they had a deal for a free iced tea with purchase of a tuna musubi. I love this place! Always feel welcomed when I make a trip to this spot. I'm a huge fan of the Redbull drinks they have here that infuse flavors like guava. The musubi portions are decent. Great food! I had been told to try their Musubi, which I had never tried before. It was after 1pm so they were sold out of some of their items, which are made fresh daily (you can watch one of the owners preparing food. I had the Avocodo, Bacon & Spam Musubi. Oh my gosh, it was delicious! It was heated up for me and served with a side of their hot sauce, which is on request. Every bite was delicious! The flavors all go well together and no flavor is overpowering. I thought the spam would be salty, but not at all! I ordered a hot Chai to go with my order and I have to say it was perfect and perfectly delicious! Making this a regular stop now when I am in the Manette neighborhood of Bremerton. We really enjoyed our musubi's! My boyfriend is from Oahu and enjoyed the food. My kids had teri SPAM musubi, I had a SPAM, bacon and avocado and my boyfriend had a spicy tuna musubi. I know it's a small business and they have to minimize waste but I wish they had more options when we got there. My boyfriend also said he'd enjoy a tuna musubi with fresh ahi in it. This cafe has an "authentic" Pacific Island feeling -- which means the stench that greets you is Spam from a Can. Spam became an island standard for Guam and Hawaii during the Pacific War when introduced by the US army. It is of course unhealthy, maximumly unkosher, and awful tasting if you accidentally get it in your mouth. A big Samoan boy will disagree. But I'm rating the cafe highly anyway since, for what it is, it's pretty damned cool, and if you per chance LOVE this sort of Hawaiian "gas station" and "corner grocery" junk food, how amazing that grubby ol' Bremerton has such a place! The place is best for whoever eats pork and chicken. If spam rightly horrifies you, then try the BBQ chicken musubi. Much is served sushi-style but it definitely island variations on sushi and not Japanese; i.e., starting with spam on rice, then adding bacon or little wieners instead of fish or veggies, and maybe even with condement squirted on top, or wrapped in seaweed. In all, looking like oddball over-sized sushi horderves. To us vegetarians it looks disgusting, but makes for amusing treats for pork-eatin' goyim, sentimental sailors, and native islanders. Lots is wrapped in advance for immediate take-out, as much a take-out deli as it is an eat-in cafe. They used to make a delightful croissant french toast for those of us who can't eat their many meat options, but alas they've stopped making that because they can barely keep up with what their regular meat patrons are excited over. It keeps relatively short hours so make sure they're actually open before going out of your way. Expect friendly service and startling authenticity. Do NOT yell "ewwww, Spam!" and walk out, that's just mean for no good reason. There's also good expresso so if you're afraid to try it because it's just too porky to consider, then drop in for an espresso at least, and check out what they might make up for you that you'd enjoy. Worst that could happen is you get a good espresso. read more
