For those that might be following my reviews, I continue on my quest for good breakfast on a Sunday morning, while riding in Western Michigan. July 4, 2021 found me in South Haven (well, I was looking for it...) at Cafe Julia. Very good coffee, and the breakfast bagel was excellent- I got it with extra sausage and feel that was worthwhile. The outdoor seating was welcome, and parking is decent. Do be advised, it is more like a Starbucks than a sit down cafe. The line to order was lengthy, and appeared a bit disorganized. There isn't table service. What was disappointing was that at the end of my delicious breakfast, I wanted more coffee. However, I would have had to stand in line, and road called more than a second cup of coffee, as it looked like at least 10 minutes to get another cup. read more

Nice, cute cafe in downtown South Haven. The sandwich menu is relatively simple, but my Papa Leo sandwich was well executed - tender chicken, good bread and pesto, and fresh greens. The side of cous cous was also quite good, and I enjoyed my iced tea. We split a granola cluster cookie for dessert, which was delicious. read more

We stopped here on our way out of town on Sunday morning at 9:30. There was a pretty long line of people waiting to order, the line went pretty fast and gave us time to check out the baked goods in the case and counter. We ordered breakfast sandwiches on bagels and the fiesta wrap. The bagel breakfast sandwiches were good and filling. The fiesta wrap was also good. My cafe Americano was good. We picked up a blueberry scone and a slice of cannoli cake to take with us, the scone was good, haven't tried the cake yet. Btw, the Yelp menu has more than what is on their menu inside, maybe during the Covid period, they reduced their menu. read more

My husband got the Bagel Breakfast Sandwich and it was good, but the bacon was not crispy enough to his liking. I was anticipating they would be able to serve me just eggs with cheese and sausage a la carte since I don't eat bread, but everything on their menu is apparently pre-made and they aren't sending orders back to the kitchen due to being understaffed. Husband enjoyed the Red velvet cupcake. I was pleasantly surprised to find gluten free carrot cake, brownies, and chocolate cupcakes. I got the GF carrot cake and thought it was delicious! I really liked the food here but the wait time was too long for a couple of sandwiches, particularly because they tried to sell us one that was already prepared in a warming station. That said, the sandwiches were good, the cupcakes were great and I appreciate their vegan and gluten free options. read more

I love this charming cafe! A friend and I meet here weekly and see a lot of the same regulars who do the same. Good cafe experience, good sandwiches, AMAZING bakery items! Try the iced sugar cookies, you'll thank me later! Best of Julia's: charming atmosphere, great location with lots of parking, good, fresh food, a variety of drinks and sides options (including really good couscous), awesome bakery items! Porch and outdoor seating an option during the summer. Things Not So Great: Tourists invade the place all summer, which makes it loud and chaotic and causes longer lines and wait time. I wish they'd go back to the tea line they carried before they switched to Benjamin Teas. Every time someone orders a smoothie, the smoothie machine roars for several minutes and is really loud when you're trying to talk to people at your table. They get busy and the employees don't always have time to wipe down tables between customers. read more

The quality of the food and drink was incredible, and that combined with the gorgeous set up and private space really made it a fantastic and memorable morning! My daughter and l went to Cafe Julia's for an iced coffee and an iced tea. My daughter ordered a sugar free vanilla iced coffee and really enjoyed it. My iced tea was not great. It tasted like they used the coffee maker to brew the iced tea. It tasted of coffee, and l do not like it when restaurants use the coffee maker to brew the tea. You can REALLY taste it. I don't drink coffee at all and it tasted terrible. Although we did not purchase any of their baked goods, they looked SCRUMPTIOUS! Even the gluten free brownies and carrot cake looked amazing! The indoor decor is simple, nice seating areas. Great, shaded outdoor area. There's even stairs on the outside going to the second floor, which l think is roof top seating? I meant to check that out, but forgot. I would recommend this cafe, just don't order an iced tea! read more

On 4th of July weekend, I decided to take a drive into Michigan because it was such a beautiful day! I stopped in South Haven where I was visiting some destinations! While I was walking to my next destination, I stopped by this café (named after one of my nieces!) The atmosphere was both relaxing and comforting! The treats were delicious! I had a cupcake that was very similar to a "hostess cupcake" but bigger and tasted WAYYY better! I even had a nice oatmeal cookie to add with the flavor! This wasn't a planned place to stop, but it was worth it nonetheless! Sadly, I couldn't get a discount for my meal for my nieces name, but I at least tried ;) Great place to stop by! If you're in the neighborhood or just passing by, this place is a must! read more

Phenomenal breakfast restaurant with an eclectic interior. Definitely check this one out.

This was an awesome find! Lots of healthy choices and lots of not so healthy pastries. Ordering is done in a line and they call your number so it's a no service restaurant. The food was excellent and abundant, lots of leftovers. It's in an old house that also includes patio and upstairs seating. We took lots of goodies home for later and they were all worth the calories lol read more

Nice little breakfast spot in South Haven. Feels more like a neighborhood cafe with friendly service. A little pricey for what it is, but nothing out of the ordinary if you're used to Starbucks. I got the breakfast croissant sandwich and it's light with homemade flavors. I got a small Carmilla coffee which is Caramel and Vanilla flavor which is rich and sweet. read more

This is a gem in SH. Offers high quality, individually prepared food . Always fresh and served well! The staff is well trained . The oatmeal, raisin, granola type cookies are to die for we have to buy them for relatives in Wisconsin. Food was okay. I got the Wise Man sandwich which was quite my cup of tea but I can see why some would enjoy it. My friends that got cupcakes said it wasn't the best. The icing was "weird". Overall it was overhyped but service was good. read more

We love Cafe Julia! We visited South Haven Monday-Friday and we went every single morning! The pastries are amazing. The muffin was the best I've ever had. Their breakfast bagel sandwich was fantastic as well. You can't go wrong. We went in July and had amazing Weather so we enjoyed all the outdoor seating. The location is great, it's located right next to a large free parking lot which is right by all the fun shops and restaurants down town as well. If you're in South Haven during the summer months, there's also a fun farmers market that takes place in the parking lot on Wednesdays! Perfect to head to and walk around with a Julia's coffee. read more

There was a line out the door but they were fast and friendly. We got the famous granola cookie and it did not disappoint. Also the breakfast pizza which had a sausage gravy sauce. Very tasty. Everything on the menu looked great. Will definitely try this place again. Prices were reasonable for the product received. read more

Oh. My. God. a South Haven staple. If there was a way to give this an 11/10 I would. These pastries are not only to die for but sell out quick so get there early or call in and make sure they have what your looking for! You can also place an order online for pickup. These are seriously the best pastries I've ever had in my life. They're so gooey, warm, sweet and just so perfect. Also, they have the best deal ever. Buy one pastry get one free. WHAT COULD BE BETTER THAN THAT?! Classic Turkey sandwich, you could never go wrong. Mocha raw bar is the best raw bar I've ever had. Incredible consistency and great flavor. Service is amazing, Anna is super super nice and helpful and really does a great job interacting and making her customers feel welcomed. Overall, if you are anywhere near South Haven, you need to make the trip to Cafe Julias. read more

I used to love it here, but their menu is always the same, and prices are steep.Many of their staff seem overwhelmed and irritated. I met a former employee and they said they are treated poorly so that's probably why. Coffee is decent. read more

Update: after going for lunch and a breakfast sandwich, the food they prepare were average but the baked goods were delicious!!! Go to coffee place in town! Good vibe, food, and service. I have gone here for he past two days with my father and we have tried the bars . My favorite is the peanut butter wriggly at but my dads is the regular wriggly bar. We also tried the organic granola, white chocolate, cranberry,etc bar. Which was both good and fresh. By dad tried two types of coffee and enjoyed them both. However, we believe there could be a better selection of breakfast food as. There also also a great vibe. If you like breakfast Foods and drinks, I would go! read more

Read great reviews about Cafe Julia, and it was a very welcoming place, but either the cashier was overwhelmed or my order was forgotten because I waited 10 minutes for a coffee order but received my almond croissant right away; nothing fancy about the drink, just drop coffee. I noticed several others who came in and ordered after me receive their orders before I finally asked how much longer, and the server looked like had forgotten about me. Well, I didn't love the coffee and only drink a small portion of it, and I was disappointed after waiting so long for the coffee that I no longer wanted the croissant I purchased to accompany it. Pros: food was prepared quickly and generally tasted good. Cons: the got both of our orders wrong. I specifically asked for a sandwich with no tomato (allergies) - she repeated "no tomato" after I ordered it but it came with tomatoes anyway. My wife ordered half a sandwich with soup, but she got a whole sandwich and no soup. Also, everything was somewhat expensive, though that's par for a tourist town. read more

The reviews posted these days have to consider how well businesses are coping with the restrictions placed upon them by COVID. It's not easy for anyone right now but Cafe Julia has done an especially nice job of creating balance. Areas within the store have been cleared while still maintaining an inviting appeal with a full line of food, specialty coffees and baked goods. The menu is diverse and service with a smile prevails here. My compliments to this business on establishing a safe environment while still tending to the service and satisfaction of its customers. The coffee is excellent and the food choices (especially the bakery items!) are delicious and diverse. Service is cordial and efficient at every level. Limited seating is available inside with a large patio area outside with more than adequate spacing. My compliments to this great little spot on accommodating the complexities of today's world and keeping everything so nicely on track. read more

Really love stopping by this place for a quick breakfast or lunch. There really is no other place like it for quick coffees and great breakfast sandwiches and lunch salads and sandwiches to go. I love this shop in downtown South Haven. They have oat milk and interesting seasonal flavor combos, and everyone is always friendly.

If you are looking for speed then this won't be the place for you but if you are looking for delicious food and great quality coffee then you will love it. enjoy the time sit down and don't rush yourself and you will be very happy you went. staff was friendly as well. They were open during the partial Covid reopening, and we were glad since we've enjoyed coming here in the past. They have a great menu with many appealing choices for brunch, sandwiches, espresso & baked goodies. There's a children's menu & a patio out back. It's an attractive place with friendly people. We got the Mediterranean, a tuna sandwich, and a chocolate cupcake to take to the beach. It was very good, tho the tuna was a tad saltier than it needed to be.
