I had high hopes for Cafe India, but ended up rather disappointed. I was in the mood for some good Indian food and a couple beers and wanted to give them a try. First, we had to wait way too long to be seated, even though there was nobody in front of us. I was looking forward to having a Fuller IPA, since UK IPAs can be harder to find in restaurants. I ordered, yet was brought a bottle of Lagunitas. I attempted to point out the difference to the waitress, who shrugged and said it's the same. The service was subpar for the rest of the evening. The food was mediocre at best as well. I was disappointed in the lack of spice/heat with the Vindaloo and the Nan was rather dry. In all honesty, I'll be trying Cafe India again. Garlin naan was good and soft. Chicken tikka masala was good - indians plz order medium spicy for OUR spice level and taste buds. Staff was too cranky and low quality of service. So my wife wanted Indian food and we ordered to go from here. This place never disappoints except maybe today. Full disclosure it was our fault so they get 5 stars. We order Chicken Tikka Masala, Fried Okra, and Chana Masala. Here's where the mistake came in- we ordered it Spicy! So in our defense in the past when we were asked about spice level we were told it was Spices and not heat however come to think of it we believe this may have been the previous owners. Our bad! Apologies to our taste buds and stomaches.. these owners mean HEAT when they ask about spice! So you are forewarned! Soooo spicy it was basically one note- chili! The chili flavor overpowered all the wonderful and delicate balance of spices that is Indian cuisine. Won't be doing that again. read more

Nice spot for Indian food in Visalia. My friend and I were seated quickly, no one was out when we first walked in but it didn't take long for us to be serviced. The second person who helped us was very nice, checked on us a few times and let us move seats farther back after the table was cleaned. The food itself was very good! I love paneer masala, it's my favorite thing to get from Indian restaurants. The sauce was creamy and tasty, maybe a little spicy for my liking but not overwhelming. I would go for a mild rather and medium spice level next time. The naan was a little lackluster. Saw someone else comment about the naan being doughy rather than having a crisp outside and pillowy inside, which I can verify. Not pictured are the samosas and vegetable pakoras, both of which were tasty. Rather pricey for the samosas though, about $6 for two of them. Yummy is the word that comes to mind. No indoor seating due to COVID, but it didn't matter. The portions were very gerberons and the food was delicious. The levels of heat were also perfect-for those of us who wanted mild-the food was mild and very flavorful, the hot was hot-gave me hiccups, but perfect. We had Saag paneer, paneer tikka masala, chicken korma and butter (makhani) shrimp. Everything tasted just the way we expected and the spices were delicious and the sauces creamy. We had extra garlic added, but it did not overwhelm the dish, the tikka Masalas were not too tomato, a nice blend and balance of taste. The naan was crisp and not too thick and the rice was also flavorful and fluffy. I would go back. Yum! read more

This has got to be the best Indian restaurant in California. I grew up in Scotland which has a high Indian population and always LOVED Indian food over there. Since I moved here Indian food is not the same, and I wouldn't count it as one of my favorite foods in California... except for here!! Granted, I haven't tried every Indian restaurant in California, but of the ones I've tried, this food tastes the most authentic (and tastes the best!!) to start off I would just have to say that the server was absolutely amazing, the best customer service I have seen in awhile. She was quick to greet, seat, ask us what we would like to drink and checked on us frequently. She was sweet and talked to us about the new drink menu (they now serve liquor) and talked to us about serving sizes and options. Throughout our entire lunch we received top notch service. The food! Went with 5 colleagues around 12:30 and they were able to easily accommodate us. Can't get enough of that BUTTER CHICKEN! Can't forget to mention their freshly made garlic naan! Yum! Cockroach. Coming OUT of our food. All you need to know. We've been here once before after the ownership changed and the food wasn't bad. Not great but not bad. But this last time we sat down and ordered our food. They brought out pappadam and then strangely one of the staff comes to our table and just stares at our food. The food here was amazing. My husband and I have tried many Indian food places and this one was among the best. The Chana Masala my husband had was very flavorful. I thought it was a little watery but the flavor it had made you forget that. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and the chicken was so tender. I've had this dish many times from other places where the chicken is very tough, but here it was not. I think the waitress was awesome. We didn't catch her name but she was on top of everything. She seemed to have a lot of responsibilities (probably due to covid they might have limited staff) and she had a great memory and didn't ignore you.
