Came here on Valentines Day to grab take out and it was busy but not busy at the same time. I didn't see much people seated inside so I assume most of them had the same idea as me to order to go to. Had to wait around 45 mins for 3 dishes and it costed almost $50! My wallet cried a little bit :( It's a cute restaurant and clean! Staff was nice and I think that's a big plus! They were transparent on how long it would take for our food and being vegetarians, there wasn't much options outside so we decided to stick with this place, we ordered their Vegetable Biryani, Paneer Masala, and Garlic Naan. The vegetable biryani did not look like as picture, it was just messily thrown into the container so when I opened it - it looked like it exploded inside! it also didn't look like picture in the menu, there wasn't any veggies on top so I wonder if they just forgot or were so busy they didn't have enough ingredients to spare? Not 100% sure there. This is a big amount though - enough to feed 2 people with leftovers! Their paneer masala was SO GOOD. This was extremely flavorful! It paired nicely with the garlic naan. Especially since the garlic naan didn't taste like it was "garlicly" but I really enjoyed their paneer masala! I wished it had potatoes and that would hit the spot! read more

The lack of consistent seasoning and slow service makes Cafe India a no go for me. Having always taken my meals to go, I found that items were always packed well but the expected wait time to be excessively long. When I pick up my food, it takes 40 minutes or so for it to be ready despite the tables being empty. Although there were 4 total spice levels, they practically tasted the same. The extra spicy would be equivalent to a medium elsewhere. *Mango Lassi: yogurt heavy and the mango was very light. Sour and sweet but not as refreshing as others I've tried. *Garlic Naan: my favorite item as this bread was smothered in garlic. The naan was soft and stretchy with subtle browning. Wished each order came with more pieces but it was worth the extra 50 cents from the regular naan. *Chicken Tikka Masala: lots of tender chicken was included but I've always found a piece of gristle. The portion was decent but the sauce was incredibly bland. The flavors were muted and I craved additional spices and fragrance. Given the wait and higher prices, I didn't find the quality to be worth it. Perhaps I'll stop by for just the garlic naan but Cafe India doesn't have the depth of flavor I crave from Indian cuisine. read more

We had an amazing experience at Cafe India. Our waitress, Denae, was incredibly sweet and knowledgeable and she recommended the chicken Malai to my sister. It was soooo delicious. Really liked the server, but that's not why I go to a restaurant. I go out to eat for good food, and this place did not deliver. The papadum was fine, the mint chutney was okay, and the mango chutney was mostly thickener. The chutneys were served in tiny plastic lidded containers, like they were pulled from a fridge and thrown onto the plate. And they were about 1/3 the quantity that I'd normally get with an order of papadum. It went downhill from there. The server offered to give us half paneer and half veggies in the masala entree. Again, cheers for the server. But then the dish arrived... the veggies were not anything I've seen in a dish like this: cauliflower, broccoli, and green beans. The sauce looked and tasted like nothing I've had before, and I don't mean that in a good way. It was like the Chef Boyardeee of Indian Food. Do yourself a favor and go to the other Indian restaurant nearby, even if it means you have to order to go and eat it in your car. read more

I won't lie - we planned on going to The Hungry Elephant, but they were closed. Cafe India *used* to be good, but as soon as the place started changing hands it started going downhill and apparently has continued to do so in the year or so since I was last there. So we get there, immediately (loudly) greeted by what I assume is the bartender. Two people at the bar, one playing Tetris on the bar tv drinking a beer and the other just dicking around on an iPad. Kid that greeted us tells us no tables are ready yet and sure enough all 3 by the bar have not been cleared. He clears one and we're seated and given one menu for the two of us. The menu looks like it was made in ms paint and printed on water logged paper. Stapled together in one corner. Anyway, we order our meal, two waters and one Dr Pepper. Got our waters immediately. Sat for 45 minutes and never got that soda, our food, or even another visit from our server. In that 45 minutes we realized the person on the iPad at the bar works there - and saw several other employees just big chillin. There were two other tables in the back that had customers. Otherwise it was just us. We walked out and won't be back. Place felt like a joke the last time we came and now it's even worse. read more

Mmm lamb korma. Mmm chicken curry. Mmm the tikka masala sauce slathered over saffron-infused basmati rice. I've heard about the legendary lunch buffet that used to exist pre-covid times, but I have to say the options even without it do not disappoint. Kormas: These creamy, flavorful dishes are best with lamb in my opinion, but I've had the vegetarian version and it was also quite tasty. They're heavier given the cream base, but the balance of fat to flavor is just right. Curries: The curries here veer towards the salty, flavorful side with complex flavors. Lamb is always a great choice, but I enjoy the chicken very much. The proteins are never overcooked, and there's a good amount of fresh tomato in the sauce that balances out the savoriness nicely. Tikka masala: I've only tried the chicken version of this, and it's made with chunks of white meat. While the protein can be mildly dry with reheating, the sauce is delicious. The blend of tomato with cream is on point, and there's just enough tanginess to keep the sauce from becoming too heavy. Naan: I'm not a huge fan of the naan here unfortunately, as it pales in comparison to the saffron rice that pairs well with everything. The naan is a little on the soft, doughy side instead of crispy with pillowy center, and I think the garlic naan could use a lot more garlic. There's also a ground meat stuffed version that was just okay. Cafe India also offers delivery, which I take advantage of way too often. They've even stayed open late one time when a delivery driver messed up my order, which was great customer service. read more

This has always been my go to India Place. I'm not sure if they hired new servers/managers but I felt very uneasy with how my issue was handled. I placed a door dash order online and was unable to add something because it didn't give me the option to. So I called and asked a question regarding my order. The server who had answered the phone put me on hold (which is fine, understandable) but then once she came back on the line she asked if I wanted to place a separate order or not. I wasn't quite understanding where she was getting at so I politely restated what I intended to do (which was add a certain item to my meal in which I was unable to on the app and if it was possible as it had never been an issue for me before). Apparently she didn't know how to answer so she just said "oh, okay" and hung up. Looking at my phone with such confusion, I called again. It rings and someone picks up and no one says anything but I can hear the sound of the restaurant in the background. I mustered out a "hello" and then get hung up on again. At this point, I'm slightly frustrated. So I called again and get sent straight to voicemail. Called again and immediately asked to speak to the manager who sounded like she was not a manager and could use some training in customer service. She apologized, I'll give her that. But, yet again tried to have me place a separate order when I've already said I couldn't add it on DoorDash and it wouldn't let me. It used to allow me to do so but it doesn't now. Then she said she'd check if she can do it and I asked if she could correct the associate who's been answering the phone because that was not the best customer service and the server/hostess could use more training. I didn't hear a response. The line went on mute as if they were saying something on the other side behind my back. Once she got back on the line, I repeated the same request and the "manager" dryly responded "yes I'll make sure to talk to her." Yeah, I highly doubt that's going to happen. My food is probably going to be spit on now because of this incident but this will the last time I order from here. Which sucks because I like their food, and I've been going to them since they opened years ago. They just need a better staff with training in customer service. I also am extremely upset because I had been discharged from the hospital and this is pretty much my first meal that isn't hospital food. So thanks to the "manager" and the "hostess" for ruining that for me with the dryness of your customer service. UPDATE: THEY NEVER ADDED MY POTATOES WHEN I ASKED. So after all that, and trying to make it up, nothing. 0900 UPDATE: THANK YOU MICHAEL SO MUCH FOR YOUR GENEROSITY AND HOSPITALITY. As the REAL manager, he went above and beyond to control the situation and make sure that I was well taken care of. Just because of you, I have not given up hope on Cafe India. I'm a butter chicken enthusiast. The butter chicken masala was delicious. Coming from the Bay Area and eating at various Indian places, this was refreshing. The butter chicken did have a different take to it, but more creamy with hint of cheesy feel. Different but good! Had the tikka masala as well, which tastes more true to a masala flavor. We did not have a set agenda during our sequoia trip couple of weeks ago. We coasted through the central valley checking out the various farms. Ian had fun at Bravo Farms just goofing around. Since we hadn't decided on dinner, we headed out to downtown Visalia to check what all it had to offer. We parked, walked and stumbled upon Cafe India. There is decent seating inside. Due to the buffet counter, wine stall and a large structural pole smack in the middle of the restaurant, layout is a little weird. Goat curry Chicken Biriyani Poori Naan Aloo paratha Channa masala Total came to ~ $50 Chicken biriyani was more like chicken rice in a rice cooker. The dish was tasty, but it definitely is not authentic Biriyani. Naans were very good. Aloo paratha was also very good. Poori was too oily. Goat curry was forgettable. It was sauteed onions and goat bones in water. Whatever you do, do not order this dish please. (-2) Chana Masala was decent according to the parents. Service was alright. There was just one waitress helping all the tables. An Indian lady assisted with the check. Since there are only 2 Desi restaurants in this area, I guess it is OK to pass this food as "Indian". I personally was unimpressed with the quality of food they served here and it takes a lot to get a bad review out of me. Based on my experience, I would recommend that you stick to Naan and Chana Masala as you cannot go wrong there.The 3 stars are for the 3 breads that were fresh and were extremely delicious. read more

My friends and I decided to order lunch from Cafe India on our way back from Sequoia. We were in a hurry to make it to a work meeting, so we called ahead so that the food would be ready when we arrived so that we could eat at the restaurant. The employee on the phone was very friendly, but they were out of 3 things that we tried to order from the menu that were very common menu items for an Indian restaurant to have: Pakora, Mango Lassi, and Raita. When we arrived, the food was still not ready for another 20 minutes or so and this was past the wait time that was given to us over the phone (25-30 min). When we received the food, some of it was barely warm. The taste of the food was just okay. We ordered the shrimp biriyani, which was just okay, the chicken and paneer masalas, chicken biriyani, vegetable samosas, and garlic and bullet naans. My friend who is Indian, was not impressed. I thought the chicken masala and chicken biriyani were pretty good. The prices were a little high for the amount of food that was given. Overall, the experience was mediocre. read more

This review is way, WAY overdue. Ahem -- I got the worst food poisoning of my life here! My friend and I ordered dinner from Cafe India through one of the food delivery apps. The order kept showing up on the app with later and later delivery times. Our driver was being weird and suddenly said she didn't want to make our delivery after all. She left without canceling our order, but I called the restaurant and they said the food was there waiting for us. By this time it had been almost 2 hours since we ordered. Argh. I drove all the way downtown, had to find parking (a nightmare), and when I got the food, I asked the server if we were all set since the app looked like I had paid already, but I wasn't sure since the driver left or whatever. The server said yes, you're good to go. So I went back home. We unpack the food and we're missing items. ARGH. I call the restaurant back and while I'm trying to explain what happened to the manager, I hear the server rush up in the background and say "oh shit! I forgot to charge her" :/ The manager put me on hold for a few minutes and then when he picked back up, he said he decided to waive the charge for me (umm.. did you DECIDE or just forget?). I said ok, that's great and all, but our order is still wrong. He got huffy with me and said I should appreciate that he did anything for me at all :((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( GAH. I'm so over it at this point, we just eat what they gave us, and lo and behold-- hours later I'm barfing saag paneer everywhere. gross. ugh so gross.
