My second visit to this restaurant and I really like the food. Sat at the bar with two friends. Byron was excellent. This time around I shared a pizza appetizer that was very good. Just enough for 3 of us. Stuffed shells were very cheesy, nice salad starter with house dressing. I asked for regular italian bread as I am a New Yorker that lives in Nevada and needed a bread fix. Sourdough pales to nice warmed up Italian bread. My friends shared Penne al Vodka entree, plenty for two. They loved it. House chianti rounded out my meal. I will definitely be back. read more

This past Saturday was my sister-in-laws 50th surprise birthday party. It took place in a private room to the right side conveniently located by the bar area. Staff was very accommodating and polite. Food was delivered family style. A pleasing variety of bread, appetizers and main course. Everything tasted pretty good but in my opinion the star of the meal was the chicken marsala. If something was running out on the table the staff would ask if we wanted more and readily replenish. I was very impressed with the service. I believe the cake was brought by a family member. This restaurant has a giant bar in between the cafe and pizzeria. It is decorated nicely and very clean. They did a great job and help make Margie's 50th birthday a very nice occasion. Thank you. Yesterday was our anniversary, so my wife and I decided to order from a place we both like. Since the entire family enjoys Italian food and Mama's is both a restaurant and pizzeria, it was the obvious choice, especially since it is my go to place for 'Cavatelli alla Bolognese.' As an appetizer we ordered a fried sampler consisting in calamari, zucchini and mozzarella sticks. My wife had the 'Mama's Surf and Turf' which consisted in shrimp parmigiana and veal cutlet parmigiana. We also ordered as a side dish, 'Rigatoni Bellini,' an eggplant pasta dish. The food was abundant. Quantity, however, does not make quality. Fortunately, this was not the case with our meal! Mama's delivered both! While it would have been lovely to have had a sit down meal, given the circumstances, this was the next best thing. We ordered at noon and picked up our food at 3:00PM. We came directly home. After preparing the dishes, the food was still hot. I must say, Mama's makes the best bolognese I have had on Long Island. No matter how many times I have gone; I have lost count over the years; the chef has yet to disappoint. The sauce is prepared with a fork full of meat in every bite and the pasta is made fresh. A combination that cannot be beat! While my wife found the surf and turf mouth watering, the children found the mozzarella sticks either half full or just plain empty; hence only four stars. They did enjoy the pizza. We were stuffed but we just 'had to try' the rigatoni. Another hit! Supporting local eateries is very important and a wonderful way to enjoy a well cooked meal with the family. COVID19 may keep us at home, nonetheless, we need not starve. read more

I understand during the pandemic that things didn't go as smoothly as they normally would, but there's never a good excuse for a waiter with a bad attitude. He gives you as least as possible and then then jumps back and throws an attitude when you ask for more. Plus he tries to drive the check up by nickel and diming you. Had to find him to pay our bill. It's a shame bc the food is excellent and have been patrons for years. The last few times we came to eat here this same waiter was alone serving and our experiences were very sour. Haven't returned now in over three months. read more

As a long time customer of Mamas and Cafe Figaro, i am sorry to say that time and time again, i have been absolutely disgusted with the service. Good food, but its not pleasurable to eat dinner with a knot in my stomach when the staff is so rude and indifferent. I really wanted to give this place a 5/5. Nice decor, great ambiance, food was delicious. The server was super friendly and accommodating. But then all the servers disappeared. We waited for the check for awhile until we realized that all of the servers were sitting at the bar eating dinner. We proceeded to wait longer until my husbands patience wore thin. He got up and went over to them to ask for the check. Our waitress said, "oh it's right there (pointing to the counter)...sorry we are just over here stuffing our faces" and proceeded to laugh. She didn't get up again. I get that waiters deserve breaks...they work hard! But you all can't take a break at once and neglect your customers and then have your customers get their own checks! read more

I came here for dinner with my husband. Rather than get into the small details, big picture was there was a problem with my meal and NOBODY who worked there cane into the dining room for over 20 minutes. I witnessed 2 people come in for gift cards and stand there for quite a number of minutes before walking out. I asked to speak to the manager and she responded by telling me that they had a big party to prepare for. There were no other people seated in the dining area except for us and a table of 10. I was more upset after talking to the manager because instead of being understanding and apologetic, she told me how busy they were. Then pointed out a couple a the bar who are long time customers. Then she blew me off and said she would come by my table to finish the conversation. Bottom line, I had a negative experience, I had to get up and walk around and go behind the bar to get an employee's attention, then the manager basically said that they can't handle more than one table at a time and that's just the way it is and there is obviously something wrong with me because they have regulars. I told her they needed to do some heavy duty customer service training. Badly handled situation all the way around. Will not be going back. read more

This review is based on customer service alone as I did not eat there. I called to see about a gift certificate, and the woman I spoke to said I could come in and get one. Since I'm not local, I asked if mailing the gift certificate was a possibility. She said no & then without waiting for me to respond promptly hung up the phone. She didn't wait to hear a response; didn't wait to offer any other solutions. It's fine if you don't mail gift certificates, but I don't expect to be hung up on when asking the question! It was incredibly rude, and I will be going elsewhere for my gift certificate. I'd rather support a place that encourages you to want to come in and does not feel like you were slapped in the face after interacting with them. read more

Went back for my second time and will never go back again including there other store Mamas in Holbrook. Went to Holbrook and was refused seating because I did not have a reservation meanwhile the restaurant was dead. Centereach location lousy food and service. read more
