This was an amazing place to eat. If we could, we would go there every week. Suck good food!

I've never eaten in the restaurant, only had takeout, so I'm going with those experiences. Pros: They deliver, and there is no minimum charge. The food is basically a poor man's California Pizza Kitchen but with less pizzazz. Their appetizers are good and so are their pizza, but everything else is strictly average. Also, the portions are nice sized and you definitely feel full. The crab nachos are definitely a can't miss. They are loaded with flavor and you could definitely make a meal out of just those. When I order again, I might just get that as a meal and leave it at that. Plus, the guys who take your order are very nice and are patient. The food also arrived in good time. Cons: The broccoli tastes very raw, and their pasta dishes are not very good. I one threw away an entire pasta dish because the pasta was well overcooked and the was way too saucy. You have to watch what you eat there and definitely have yourself a water while you're eating. The food is extremely pepper-y and I ran through 1 liter of water just finishing a personal pan. But at least its very tasty. Overall it gets the 3 out of 5 based on that the pizza is great and so is the service, but I would just get the pizza and appetizers and nothing more. Plus, it strives to do more than it should and that's why some of the menu items are very hit or miss. It has a slight recommendation in my book, but as I mentioned, stick with the pizza. read more

Really good food. I was surprised that (Saturday night at 7 pm) there were so few customers, while Chili's down the street was packed. I had the Cuban panini withe a side of fries and small salad, and the portions were huge and delicious. They have a decent selection of beers (6 microbrews on tap and a lot more in bottles), and a good selection of wines. The folks at Chili's don't know what they're missing. Good location, just down the street from the Apple Blossom Mall, and only about 1/2 mile from I-81. If I lived in Winchester this would be my go-to, but alas, I'm just passing through. read more

I never get a bad meal here, and the staff is so nice. It may be a little pricier than what is typical for the area, but it is well worth it for quality and creativity in the dishes. You could eat here every day for a week and not want to repeat an item of the menu, and everything will be delicious. read more

Will agree that this place has Terrible service; no cash register, no matrire de. Entered an empty room on a whim at 11:00, and as the room filled up, we got less and less attn. Was drawn in by the lovely sign, dark as the grave inside, couldn't see the food we ordered. Grandma got the crab bisque, tasty but no garni so the photo can't do it justice. I tried the special: salad, chicken chili and a Cuban all on a large, rectangular plate. Good but not great decaff, really nice china, flatware (not flat), cudos to the interior design team. The salad was as advertised and thanks, not over-dressed. Chicken-cilantro chili great with nice chunks of meat, two kinds of beans, no hint of cilantro???? Since I was fighting with the wife I lost my appetite and only tasted the 'Cuban' --- it made a good dinner!! Lots of pulled pork, good ham, really nice bread. The food and service were spectacular! I had the avocado club and a side of fries. My husband had the 5 cheese lasagna. Our granddaughter had the ahi ahi tuna salad. The portions were huge and everything tasted fantastic. The winner was the salad with its leafy greens, watermelon radish, bits of mango and perfectly sliced tuna, not to mention the dressing which was amazing. For dessert we split a slice of decadent chocolate cake. To top it off, the prices were very reasonable. We will definitely return. read more

This was a very nice surprise. First time in the area and always skeptical going to an Italian restaurant that not either in New York or northern New Jersey. This place is fantastic! Everything was fresh, seasoned to perfection, and as a California pizza lover, Cafe Del Sol nails it. The staff is so very friendly. At one point the server, host, and the sweetheart sanitizing the tables in between customers, all came to the table together to thank us for being great customers. What an amazing experience! Early on Saturday evening SHOULD be a good time for a quick dinner at any restaurant. However, that was not the case at Cafe Del Sol. We were seated at 4:40 and received our order at 5:20 that doesn't sound bad but when the order was 2 soups and two apps served together it is a horrible ticket time. One of the apps was ordered extra crispy and come out soggy and tepid. Both soups were good but still should have been served much faster. The waitress never checked on the table during that time, much more important for her to hang out at the bar or putting grub hub orders together. When she finally got food to the table she said the delay was due to a large to go order. We had soups and apps, unacceptable. Will not be back. read more

Fabulous service. Accepts arrivals until 9 p.m. Fabulous calamari and caesar salad. Make it a lettuce wrap and it's a fine meal. The Cuban panini was excellent. The I.P.A. (draft) was very good. This is not a pizzeria. It has a diversified menu. I hope we will return and try PrimeRib Panini and the Black (tenderloin) and bled cheese salad, plus other items. Highly recommended. read more

This is one of our favorite restaurants. That was no different during the pandemic when we got takeout regularly. We were excited when we were recently vaccinated and went back to the restaurant itself. Aside from the waiters, there was not a mask in sight. At first no one was near us but soon people were seated within three or four feet on either side and it got more and more crowded as we were there. Professionally, we are turning ourselves inside out to meet the Virginia Department of Health requirements. Restaurants should meet them too. This makes me think that Café Del Sol does not have its customers' best interests at heart. read more

I have visited this Cafe del Sol for 7 years and never had a nightmarish experience until today. I ordered the Cabo fish sandwich. I have enjoyed the sandwich many times before. My sandwich arrived with less than 2oz of fish in the sandwich, so I complained. One could literally see through the 2 potato-chip-size pieces. Instead of someone taking care of the problem, no manager was available, and a server with the keys came and lectured me that if I were to come back and order the same item, I would have to pay more for extra fish. I asked what the designated portion for the recipe is, claiming what I had received could not be the normal portion ing. I asked what the house recipe called for in terms of weight, or amount, of fish, and I was informed there wasn't one. I was informed also that no manager or owner was available. When I asked to see the asst. kitchen manager, I was told he was too busy and could not deal with the problem now. In response to an inquiry, I related my eperience to a regular customer who had sat at the bar. Then I was asked to leave. When I complained about the lack of resolution with my food, the server said I should leave now and threatened to call police. Since nothing unlawful had occurred, I encouraged her to call the police, for nothing. I asked for my check and was ordered to leave rather than pay my check. There is absolutely no excuse for this treatment. I am not a trouble-maker. I get things aren't always cool! But calling the police for complaining about not getting enough of the food you ordered? read more

This place looks nice, modern, stylish, pleasant if dark. The menu looked appealing and relatively varied. However, there was no host to seat us for a few minutes and, though it was not even half full when we arrived and we ordered right away, we didn't get any food for 50 minutes. It took about twenty or more minutes to get my cocktail. I had to get up and ask my server what was up and she was courteous and apologetic but I still had to wait another ten minutes for my drink. We left without food or anyone noticing. At least my drink was free! Serious service problems!!! Maybe the cook was dead!!! read more

Great place. We went for a work lunch. The hostess is a little.. umm.. eccentric so be ready for that. The food is great and the service is nice. They are a little slower but they make most of their food in house so that is to be expected. We also had someone that can not have gluten. You can ask for a special menu that will show you a decent amount of options that can be modified for you. My friend was very excited that the crab and artichoke dip was gluten free. read more

Very impressed with this place! Every time I eat here the food is delicious, good sized portions, and service is excellent. Today I had the lunch combo with half a Cuban panini, a small salad, and chicken chili for only $10.00!! I couldn't eat it all and asked for a to-go cup for the chili, and our server actually put more chili in the container for me so it would be like a full portion later on. Such a small gesture that made me really happy! They have a good beer selection too. One thing I noticed today that really made me go "wow" was the bathrooms....in the ladies room, there is a small basket with q-tips, tampons, hair spray, lotion, and body spray. I have not tried everything on their menu but almost everything seems spectacular. Their wood oven pizzas have incredible texture--crisp outside and a warm, soft inside-- and their sandwiches are very well made. For starters (appetizers), do not miss out on the crab nachos. It is a mess of real crab lumps and other veggies and sauces laying on a bed of their own, freshly prepared kettle cooked potato chips. It is unlike anything I've had anywhere. The only sandwich I have ordered from here for fear of no other living up to its greatness is the Avocado Club. It is a grilled panini with with bacon, avocado, grilled chicken and what appears to be mayo-- a prime example of simple idea executed to perfection. The one area where Cafe del Sol is noticeably lacking is in their side offerings. Their fries are painfully average, which is surprising considering how exceptionally they make their pizzas and sandwiches. They also offer some sort of vegetable alternatives which are quite pathetic. Still, this doesn't overshadow the other great offerings found here. I would give this place 4 and a half stars if it were an option, and five if they improved their side options, especially their fries. read more

OK, I know this place is new (replaced Red Hot & Blue BBQ) but I am still kicking myself for not finding it sooner. We had a late lunch here yesterday and it was fantastic! If you haven't been here to check it out yet then you are missing out, fabulous pannini's and pizza w/side salad (our lunch yesterday) and everything else on the menu sounded delicious, we will definitely be going back soon. Not the cheapest sandwich I ever had ($9.50) but well worth it. I think these guys are corporate but even so, delicious and highly recommended, lets hope they don't let the standards slip as they become more popular. Upon entering the place it is a "seat yourself" place although classy, modern and clean decor (seems like a weird combo eh?), they did not seem to have much staff only our lovely waitress/manager Wendy who was awesome and super helpful when my mom and I arrived for lunch. Unfortunately when my dad and his friend came the next day because they decided to try it out and use our 10% coupon my mom and I had got from our lunch my dad said there were two waiters and they waited about 10 minutes, even getting ignored by one server until they finally grabbed someone to try and get some service (it wasn't the same server we had). The food we were told is made fresh, the garden salad I had was good (although my mom felt the tomatoes needed to be room temp rather almost frozen so, I kind of question how fresh it is). The food is a bit fusion, Italian and tex-mex style. The food is a bit pricey and the portion size is about average for a meal I thought, not as large as I was kinda lead to believe. I had the Crab Ravioli which does contain shrimp (although not listed in the ingredients) which the waitress had informed me after placing the order in the kitchen. I was hoping to taste more of the seafood flavor but rather I mostly tasted a cinnamon type flavor and while the raviolis were very pretty with orange and yellow stripes I felt it was slightly overcooked but still edible regardless, and it did come with some garlic bread on the side. My mom had the chicken and steak fajitas which she really liked, but I felt that if you ordered this expecting the typical Spanish style fajitas you may be slightly disappointed because this was more of a chipotle tex-mex version although this dish had the best amount of flavor compared to their other dishes I tried. Also when my dad went he had the Margherita Pizza w/ prosciutto and he brought home some leftovers which was cool because I had really wanted to try it, and with all the ingredients in it I would've thought it would've had more flavor... my dad however loved it because he likes plain pizza normally, I think if it had some avocado on top with some feta cheese, and skip on the olive oil than it would've been an awesome pizza. Overall, I do think this place is worth giving a try and I'd probably pick this place over an Olive Garden. I think it could use some slight improvement in the food flavor department and some more wait staff. I do believe they offer some online coupons as well. read more

Check, check and recheck. I think I'm in love. Okay, seriously, this is what a nice chill pizza place should be. The food here is fantastic: the chicken pesto panini was outstanding; the soups, especially the Red Rock bisque (a seafood bisque) was to die for and the dessert - a genuine tiramisu that didn't skimp on the recipe - was great. The waiters are attentive and chatty in the good way, and I don't think I ever really paid attention to the background music in any restaurant until today. We'll be back. This is a seriously great spot for a local, or the road weary traveler just passing through. Located amidst a plethora of big box chain restaurants that offer as much to look forward to as a trip to the dentist, Cafe del Sol serves up some extremely tasty, semi-unique food with a great drink list and HH to boot. Cant speak for any of the food items other than the pizza, but the Greek was awesome. Truly. My husband arrived around 7pm on a Friday night. We were promptly greated and seated. The gentleman who seated us took our drink order and said our waiter would be with us soon. We waited probably 10-15 minutes before our waiter even came to the table. We ordered an appetizer and 2 entrees. By the time we got any food, it was well over 30 minutes from arriving. We got the crab nachos for the appetizer -- it was a lot of food, and was pretty good. For the entrees, I got the Tequila Chicken and my husband got the Chipotle Steak Skewers. Both of the entrees, were OK -- nothing spectacular. The service was unbelievable slow. Even as the restaurant started to empty out, our waitress still couldn't seem to keep up. She apologized every time she came to the table, but it started to get less sincere each time. She appeared to be runing around a lot, so I'm not sure if she was new or just inefficient. We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. The atmosphere is comfortable and the food is good. The three stars is because the pick 3 menu was not thoroughly explained to us. While we were not careful to read the menu completely, the waitress did not attempt to help either. We ordered 2 upsell items and when I got the bill I was unpleasantly surprised at the total. I believe a guest should always be given all the assist in ordering so that their experience is one that'll bring them back. read more

I just moved here and have gone twice. Modern, cozy, dark and spacious small restaurant, and delicious food! Red Rock bisque is absolutely fantastic, field greens can be a standard side and has fresh lettuces and sweet tomatoes with a perfect vinaigrette. My sandwich of choice is the panini with avocado/chicken/bacon., but I also tasted the chicken basil pesto panini and it was every bit as delicious. You pay less here to fill yourself up than at Buffalo Wild Wings. And you still get half a sandwich to take home :). That's coming from someone who can eat half a frozen pizza before she gets stuffed. My bisque was 3.95 (specialty) and the panini was about 9.75. Why are you still reading. Go. read more
