I wanted to like it here, but I'm still kinda on the fence about things. Let me start with the fact that the owner is very friendly, courteous & inviting. We walked in with an Entertainment Book coupon. Rag on me if you will, but I mainly use these coupons to try out new places. That way, if I don't like it, I still didnt pay full price. Anywho, my expectations were fairly lowered since I presented the coupon right as we walked in (as the instructions said to do). My complaints are mainly with her staff.
That being said, I still had SOME expectations despite our discounted meal. Here's their chance to welcome a new customer and hopefully a regular, right? At the end of the meal, she just brought the check without asking if we wanted anything else. The original plan was to order another soda (they serve in cans) to go and some dessert, being that we saved money on the entrees. Our waitress actually barely checked in on us...but the owner did a couple times. And they had a "beverage girl" who was on top of refilling my iced tea.
What really chapped my hide was our bill. When it came, it was $30+. Ok, fine. Discount was not applied yet. Our coupon was for BOGO. Linguine & clams was $15. Prosciutto sandwich was $12. A can of soda + Refillable iced tea $4. I was going to pay cash, but since I was avoiding the math originally I just handed her the coupon & my card. My card comes back charged for $28 and some change.
Huh? How'd that happen? The free prosciutto sandwich got us a $2 discount? Umm...With the free sandwich, the bill should have been closer to $20 than $30. I signed the receipt for exactly what the card was run for. In the tip line, I squeezed in "the amount that we were overcharged". So, even with the bad math, cramped dining area, the potentially rotten clam (see my picture below), and failure to offer dessert/additional items, this place still gets 3 stars and I'm on the fence. Why? It was because of the coupon. I admitted up front that my standards were lowered because of it. Food was OK, but I didn't pay full price. They honored my coupon. Owner made us feel welcome. I'd be willing to try them again on a different day/time in hopes of better staff. If I pay full price and get the same thing, then yeah, it will most definitely switch to one star.
PS. They also advertised their sandwiches to include "handmade potatoes", but exactly three quarter-sized discs came. They should have said "All sandwich plates include boiled, unseasoned potato garnishes" read more
