Vegan Crab Sandwich

Not only did the meal taste great it had a beautiful presentation. So glad we found this. It is in the back of a building that is on the Main Street. There is free parking in the back. We sat outside with our dog. Ate some of the lunch before I remembered to take a picture.

I was very excited to try this restaurant. I was in Newtown and looking for something to eat. I saw the Vegan Cheesesteak on the menu and was excited to try it. The restaurant is literally a hidden gem. It's a little tough to spot, but the vibe in the place is amazing. The guy working on my visit was super friendly and helpful. And the vegan cheesesteak was very tasty. Can't wait to go back and try the other vegan options on the menu.

Okay, so you follow the directions to a downtown area and at first you will not be able to see this cafe. We looked and looked but it wasn't u til we saw the sign for their cafe on a sign pile with other businesses that we were able to find it. You have to walk through a small sidewalk area to the back of the building and they are located on the bottom of the building. We were seated quickly and had our lunches within 10 minutes. My daughter enjoyed the chicken sandwich which they pressed as a panini for her and the sweet potato soup with jalapeño had just the right amount of heat. A lot of vegan and vegetarian options. Nice little cafe.

I have been coming here for about 3 years and it is always such a pleasure! Vegan options are in abundance at Cafe Con Leche and I am so grateful for that! Enjoy the many options that are offered at this restaurant. They have options for nonvegans and they also have desserts and coffee.

Bigger than it looks. Vegan burrito to go

If you're going to know one thing about my experience at Cafe con Leche, it's that I accidentally said "damn" when my burrito came out. But of course I'll tell you other things too ;) On my way to World of Falafel, which unfortunately was closed for succot (jewish new year) so I ended up yelping this place with a long history dating back to just before the 21st century, and a much changed menu from back then, I was thrilled to see a whole page with vegan options. Everything from mexican to indian to "Vegan Crabcakes" which I'll need to try. Upon suggestion of the hostess, i ended up with the vegan burrito, stuffed with spanish rice, romaine, and very well seasoned and cooked seitan. All wrapped in a blue corn flour tortilla and a side salad for $14. A little more than chipotle but also a little better than chipotle ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Great place, very quaint, and empty on a Sunday at 3:15 (I guess not many people eat full meals at that time...) Lookig forward to returning some day.

I have eaten here since 2005, but really increased my frequency in the last few months, and it's been delicious every time. If you're nervous about a vegan restaurant, don't be. They have vegan options but also lots of real meat options. Among my faves are the vegan crab cake sandwich (doesn't taste like crab cakes to me, but I think of it as a variation on a veggie burger). Mussels & linguine is also very tasty in marinara sauce. Sides are always salad or veggies - they don't default to fries or chips, which I love because it's so much healthier.

Seems to have faded. Food used to be good but last two times everything we had was bland, tasteless and felt microwaved.

Tiny byob that has one of the best Cesar salads I have ever tasted in my life. I would kill for their sweet potato jalapeño soup.

Little hard to find this place but when you do you realize how awesome it is. The food is fresh and always a good quick bite for lunch.

Ask the Community - Cafe Con Leche

Do you have gluten free options?

Yes they do.

Is this cafe accessible by wheelchair? I see there is 1 step into the cafe, but is the cafe itself up or down a flight of stairs once inside?

it is a small narrow place. No stairs but a step or two to get in. I doubt that a wheelchair would fit in unless they have an entrance in the back or something that is handicapp accessible

Mamie Colette - Best croissants ever!

I asked what I was in for and was immediately schooled on all of the offerings by the owner..... she described every item with great detail, pride and passion. I ended up buying some items for my wife's work and something for myself. The prices seemed high, but believe me you're getting what you pay for. I ended up with two Croissants - Buttery, flaky French-style croissant, one Pain au Chocolat - Our classic croissant filled with two bittersweet chocolate batons, one Nutella croissant - Our classic croissant filled with delicious Nutella chocolate hazelnut spread, one Fruit Jam croissant - our classic croissant filled with delicious fruit jam and a Almond Chocolate croissant - Our classic almond croissant filled with two bittersweet chocolate batons. For myself, I took another customers advice and went with a savory Ham and cheese croissant - our classic croissant filled with bechamel (creamy white sauce), ham and cheese. The shiny sheen of buttery baked goodness was the first thing you'll notice before you taste that flaky brown crust. Every bite was a clean crisp break and boy did all the flavors of ham and cheese combine to make a fantastic breakfast. My bill was $40 combined for all seven items. (I believe the ham and cheese croissant itself was about $6 and change) The croissants my wife brought to work were a hit. One of the her co-workers lived in France for several years and was complaining she couldn't find a comparable croissant on this side of the pond. She was beyond impressed and commented they are better than most she remembered. Mission accomplished, she'll be paying her first visit and I'll be returning to try some sweet options next time! Small location, but a mighty and beautiful product made with love at Mamie Colette!

MaGerks was overfilled with the meat, cheese and mushrooms. We took some off and made another sandwich with a roll we had at home. Next time we would ask for it to be light on the cheese. It also came with a small bag of potato chips and a firm pickle. We think this might be the best out of the three if less cheese. Clubhouse cheesesteak is a go to for us. It is consistently delicious. We had a choice of fries, chips or coleslaw and we went with the chips plus there a few pickle slices. Francesco's cheesesteak was good but it had a different chicken taste. It came a la carte and was noticeably smaller. The bread wasn't as good either. This was our least favorite. We definitely will be going back to MaGerks to try other dishes as well.

Their menu has a mix of cutlet sandwiches, cheesesteaks, burger, tacos, quesadillas and burritos. The man who took my order wasn't much for words, but the food more than made up for it! My wife had the Chicken Quesadilla $15 (comes with fries). I had the combination tacos $16 which had one hot sausage taco, one chipotle and one birria. All three tacos were stuffed and bursting with flavor. The double tortillas were awesome and made the overstuffed tacos easier to handle, but were also fresh and had a nice crunch to them. I enjoyed the birria most with the chipotle coming in a close second. The hot sausage taco was decent, but I needed more heat and flavor from it. The birria had a tasty combination of cheese, cilantro and onion to go along with the seasoned beef. The chipotle chicken partnered with pineapple, cilantro and onion hit the spot as well. The Chicken Quesadilla had a perfect portion of melted cheese and lightly seasoned chicken. It also held together extremely well. The fries were forgettable, but the main event was delicious. I'd seek these guys out again! Aristaeus has them on their website calendar once or twice a month and Newtown Brewing has dates on their Facebook events page. Thanks guys!
