We booked a table for 10 at Cafe con Leche for family visiting from out of town. Overall, our experience was just fine. Food was decent, not great. Service was a little awkward, with multiple miscommunications and long periods of time without a visit. Ambiance was forgettable. There are so many delicious Latino restaurants in Chicago! This was just decent. read more

Second time ordering from here and it was delicious just as the first time. Highly recommende!!! Food was flavorful and deliciou!

I been coming here for years and always get chilaquiles due to it being one of the most popular dishes on the menu and the BEST!!!. today they said they are cooking it in the same fryer as shrimp, which is one of the highest allergies foods in the world(shellfish). a kitchen should always be cooking shellfish separately due to that reason. been coming here for years just to be told that today. Mind you I told the waiter that I been here multiple times, and she said told me well you can go somewhere else and see if they cook it differently. Never heard that before, very disappointed. read more

This place was actually incredible! Since being in Chicago, this has been my favorite restaurant. My friend and I started with their oat milk cappuccino which was so tasty and great presentation. I got the chilaquiles verdes and my friend got the breakfast burrito. We were both amazed by the freshness and quality of the food. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a good breakfast spot in Logan Square! read more

A famous local restaurant that has been here for ages, and has maintained its latin roots through all the change in the area. Good for a more upscale evening out, or a celebration. The Jibarito was good, and not as greasy as other restaurants which can be pleasant. Mojito was strong, and their seasonal pumpkin tart was sweet. The staff were nice and quick. Small area so can be cramped when busy during the winter. read more

We came in on a Sunday morning and were able to be seated immediately in their outdoor patio. The brunch menu has a good variety of options ranging from American standards (pancakes, French toast, eggs with sausage) to more Latin items like tortas, chilaquiles, etc. we opted for the latter; the coffee came out quickly, but the food took some time given it was breakfast food. It arrived at our table lukewarm at best, but the overall flavors were good and the portion sizes were generous. Overall I'd say it was a good experience! read more

This is a review solely for the pickip/ takeout experience. EVERY single time I place an order for pickup for a simple coffee, with 15 min advance notice, I arrive and it is never reafy, have not even started preparing it... which....DEFEATS the whole purpose of ordering ahead...I can understand if I have a complicated order but no, it's just coffee..I can also understand if it happens once, but this has been my experience the last 4 times... no apology either.. read more

We came for snacks and drinks and everything was great. We got flautas and empanadas and chips and salsa. As a result of the pitcher of passion fruit margaritas we forgot to try the flan but we had a great time, the service was excellent, and I'd definitely come back for it. read more

Really enjoyed! Our server was amazing, very informative! We got the breakfast burrito and the omelet special. Cute patio outside. Will be coming back! read more

After a long day and night of waiting to meet our first grandchild at the hospital, my husband and I decided to find a nice restaurant to celebrate with a hearty breakfast. We found this charming restaurant. The wait staff was quick and friendly. The decor was modern, sleek and clean. The menu offered a variety of choices which should offer pleasure to any palette. We chose these dishes which which were rich in flavor and color for the eyes. Our food was quick, delicious and hot. My husband chose the chorizo omelette and I chose the croissant sandwich. Both were served with house potatoes. He had an espresso and I enjoyed a coffee latte. I would highly recommend this dining experience. read more

Excellent atmosphere, food, and service! Coffee was amazing. Can't wait to become a regular:)

This place always exceeds our expectations! Cafe Con Leche is one of our favorite restaurants because of the freshness and high-quality food they produce and the incredible traditional flavors. Everything tastes amazing! From the appetizers to sandwiches, to their main dishes and desserts and the vibe is super chill! We ordered the Ceviche and it was like a piece of art, and tasted like Zeus himself prepared this dish. Zesty and fresh and the seafood was perfectly balanced. We have had five of the nine sandwiches offered, and they were all fantastic! ... but the Ropa Vieja sandwich / dinner are my faves! The Tampiqueña was phenomenal! A great cut of meat in a very healthy portion will satisfy your appetite. Their breakfast menu is also amazing, try the steak and eggs or the Chilaquiles. Yummm! Their bartenders are artists! They make the greatest cocktails. You must try the tamarind old-fashioned. Wow! All in all always happy to go and sad to leave, but will continue to visit often. See you there! read more

service was really good, everyone we interacted with was really attentive and kind. the restaurant itself is a cute intimate layout, the music was a little too loud so it kinda felt like you had to speak loudly to be heard. as for food, i had the chilaquiles verdes, they were okay. the tostadas were soggy so there wasn't a lot of crunch going on there and the salsa didn't have a particularly great flavor. the beans and rice on the other hand were really good, the rice wasn't dry and had a nice black peppery taste to it. additionally i had the apple cider, it had a nice fermented flavor to it, like a non-fizzy kombucha, definitely tasted like it was made from real apples! read more

Never had a bad time or bad service at Cafe con Leche! One of my go to's in Logan Square, I usually get the Jibarito, Caldo or Ropa Vieja! The food is delicious and the service is fast. Good for casual eats and family friendly. They also have happy hour Monday to Friday from 3 pm to 6 pm which features $7 Margaritas!! It's a cozy place and in the summer time there is outdoor seating in the back. There is free parking as well. read more

I stopped in for a quick meal because of its convenient location not knowing what to expect. the Service was amazing and they walked me through all the options for different entree's and pastries. the atmosphere was very friendly and inviting and made for a very pleasing lunch. Shout out to Cafe Con Leche for having breakfast available on Sundays til about 4pm! I came here immediately after finishing the Chicago Marathon this year because I wanted some breakfast food, as it is my favorite meal of the day. Well unfortunately, around 3pm there aren't many options available for breakfast unless you want to hit up a run of the mill diner. I wanted something more than that. This was a celebration meal! I looked around Logan Square because a friend we met up with lives there, so Cafe con Leche was amongst the top place to appear in my search. Okay let's go! We walk in, the place is half empty half filled. Perfect! We order our food, I get this incredible cafe con leche in the biggest mug ever. I'm glad it was so big cause I didn't want that drink to end. I had the steak and eggs which single handedly brought me back to the living world. The steak was so good! I know they have a lunch menu too so next time I come I need to try that. It's a bit embarrassing how this was my first ever time at this restaurant but they gave me such a lasting impression that I'm ready to go back soon! read more

Amazing Mexican cuisine, great brunch and dinner. The breakfast burrito is my favorite in Logan and the enchiladas are my go to for dinner.

We really enjoyed our dinner here. We had a reservation, and was given a table right away. They did take a little long to take our order, and once the order was taken, I had to wait patiently once again for my drink to arrive. But other than that their service was flawless. I tried their house margarita for $6 during happy hour. Regular price is $10 so I jumped on that real quick. My wife ordered their Ropa Vieja sandwich and I ordered their Asada Enchiladas once I noticed that they are served with skirt steak. The Ropa Vieja sandwich was served with rice and black beans. The sandwich itself was delicious. Shredded braised beef served with cotija cheese packed in between French bread. My skirt steak enchiladas were amazing. The skirt steak was diced and covered with salsa ranchera and crema. The steak was perfectly cooked but would have preferred the salsa to have a little more of a kick. It was still flavorful and served with a side of Mexican rice and retried beans. You can't come to Cafe con Leche without actually ordering some Cafe con Leche. It was delicious and large so leave some room for some after dinner sipping. We wanted to try some dessert and were shocked to see they actually offered Capirotada. I've never seen Capirotada on any menu ever, so we had to get it. You get a slice of house made Mexican bread pudding made with chocolate abuelita, piloncillo sauce topped with vanilla ice cream. It was very filling and you could tastes hints of that abuelita. Overall, I really enjoyed my entire dinner and wouldn't hesitate returning. And they have parking in the rear which is a huge plus. I will be definitely back very soon. read more

Cafe con Leche - Taco Salad with chicken - Mexican Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

We were in Chicago for a little four-day vacation. Hungry for breakfast on a Wednesday afternoon (around noon), we popped into Cafe Con Leche for some grub. It was packed inside, but we got a table quickly. Our waiter was wearing a mask, but most employees were not. It's May 2022, though, so not mandatory. I ordered the Veggie Burrito. My partner ordered the Croissant Sandwich (minus cheese). Both dishes came out quickly and very hot, which was a plus. The potatoes came with both meals and were a very generous portion. I love breakfast potatoes, but sometimes the greasiness hurts my stomach. These potatoes, however, were flavorful and fluffy--not greasy. We loved them. The burrito and sandwich were both huge. The flavors were great and exactly what we hoped for. Good portions, well constructed, very fresh. The price matched the value. The only downside was how hot it was inside the place. It was a cool, breezy day, and it had to be 80 degrees in there. I am a cold person, so I was fine. I just took off my hoodie. It may have been a fluke that day? Not sure. All in all, we'd eat there again! read more

Nice, neighborhood place that mixes Mexican food with standard diner cuisine. Friendly vibe, some sports TVs but not too many, children/families welcome. Great breakfasts, thick pancakes, good Mexican food for a Polish neighborhood. Attentive service, friendly staff. read more

Great food and amazing presentation but the surcharges turn me off from ever coming back. 20% for 3 people. 4% convenience fee for credit card. None of these details are on the main menu. Check out the side drink menu for this info lol. I have no problem paying for service ... just add it to the regular price of the food. All this nickel and dime charges took away from what could have been a great experience read more

I've been a fan of the food and atmosphere here for years. A few summers ago a mariachi band strolled through the restaurant and entertained us. The food is always solid and fresh and the coffee is amazing. The wife generally gets chicken Molé and loves it. The menu is lacking in vegetarian items, and they sadly took one away which was my go to there, the spinach and mushroom enchiladas. What they do have, I think they hit it out of the park. And their presentation is always an A! read more

I've walked past this place a bunch of times. Finally my brother and I decided to check it out. The atmosphere is awesome! Great Latin decor combined with perfect tempo music. It makes you want to try everything and dance while you do so. My brother ordered the torta which is what I intended to. Unfortunately, I decided to go with the Jibarito. While it was pretty good, it paled in comparison to his. The combination between really dry plantain flour(?!) for the breading, the moist chicken breast, and the raw vegetables made for an impossible-to-hand-eat mess of a sandwich. The flavors weren't a bad combination when I could get them all at once just not what I had in mind. Again, I mis-ordered so this is still a five star place. The food my brother had was amazing, the rice/beans side dish was amazing, and the drinks were mixed just right. I'm looking forward to returning to try anything else on the menu! read more

+1 star for being open on a Monday! We made a reservation at 8:15, but didn't need it. Lots of room. (They also have a back patio.) This place is great for parties of 1-4. I noticed the bar right away, small but attractive. We sat at a high table by a gas fire place. One word: COZY. We were so, so, SOO HUNGRY. We were in the right spot. For appetizer, we ordered the Flautitas ($8.95, three rolled and fried shredded chicken and pepper tacos with guac, sour cream, queso fresco, and salsa verde). YUM! Perfect for two people. If you are someone that loves a good amount of sauce with their appetizer, this one is for you. I ordered the Camaron tacos ($12.95, three shrimp tacos with cabbage, chipotle, pico de gallo, and cilantro). Not the best shrimp tacos I've had, but they were definitely tasty. I do wish the shrimp was marinated and grilled more. The tacos came with a small side of delicious mexican rice and refried beans. My husband ordered the Asada Fajitas ($20.95, juicy grilled steak with a heap of bell peppers and onions, with a side of guac, mexican rice, and refried beans). This seemed to be the popular dish of the night. So many people were ordering it. I thought that it seemed pricey for the amount of steak received. It was enough food for one person... if you wanted to split this dish, I guarantee you'd be fighting for the steak haha. It was still good. The service here is great! Our waters were always filled. All the employees helped each other out. I would love to come here for brunch. read more

Great spot near the Blue Line! As a commuter, I appreciate an easily accessible location. This spot is a couple minutes walk from the Blue Line and well worth the trip! It was very easy to make a reservation for 2 on a Thursday evening, although we also could have just as easily walked in. On this warm night the windows were open and the back patio was available. Plenty of fresh air! Started off with a margarita, half salt, half Tajin on the rim - wonderful. Food came out very quickly! I was shocked! There's lots to choose from, no matter what time of day you go. There are even specials available for dinnertime. I settled on a torta with the option of rice and beans instead of fries. Everything was good! For the price, I felt like I got a good deal. Our server was nice, wait wait scratch that...ALL our servers were nice. From the hostess that seated us, to the man who brought us waters, to our server. Everyone provided great service! I just missed the 6:00p Happy Hour cutoff, but that's just another reason to go back! Deals on pitchers of margaritas? Yes, PLEASE! read more
