It was Saturday evening around 7:30 pm no reservations were required and we were seated immediately. We ordered the sangria, empanadas, chicken enchiladas and a chicken sandwich. Everything I put in my mouth was well seasoned and flavorful. You could tell the chef was cooking with a purpose to make your meal memorable. The star of the meal was the empanadas and the Sangria. This place is amazing and would have received 4 stars if not for the poor service. The restaurant was not crowded but our wait staff was inattentive. We had to ask each time for her to come to our table for: silverware, a correction to what I ordered, to go boxes, to go bags and the check. Basically we were ignored the entire time we were there. A famous local restaurant that has been here for ages, and has maintained its latin roots through all the change in the area. Good for a more upscale evening out, or a celebration. The Jibarito was good, and not as greasy as other restaurants which can be pleasant. Mojito was strong, and their seasonal pumpkin tart was sweet. The staff were nice and quick. The brunch menu has a good variety of options ranging from American standards (pancakes, French toast, eggs with sausage) to more Latin items like tortas, chilaquiles, etc. we opted for the latter; the coffee came out quickly, but the food took some time given it was breakfast food. We ordered the Ceviche and it was like a piece of art, and tasted like Zeus himself prepared this dish. Zesty and fresh and the seafood was perfectly balanced. We have had five of the nine sandwiches offered, and they were all fantastic! ... but the Ropa Vieja sandwich / dinner are my faves! The Tampiqueña was phenomenal! A great cut of meat in a very healthy portion will satisfy your appetite. Their breakfast menu is also amazing, try the steak and eggs or the Chilaquiles. Yummm! Their bartenders are artists! service was really good, everyone we interacted with was really attentive and kind. the restaurant itself is a cute intimate layout, the music was a little too loud so it kinda felt like you had to speak loudly to be heard. as for food, i had the chilaquiles verdes, they were okay. the tostadas were soggy so there wasn't a lot of crunch going on there and the salsa didn't have a particularly great flavor. the beans and rice on the other hand were really good, the rice wasn't dry and had a nice black peppery taste to it. additionally i had the apple cider, it had a nice fermented flavor to it, like a non-fizzy kombucha, definitely tasted like it was made from real apples! read more

Good for casual eats and family friendly. They also have happy hour Monday to Friday from 3 pm to 6 pm which features $7 Margaritas!! Shout out to Cafe Con Leche for having breakfast available on Sundays til about 4pm! I came here immediately after finishing the Chicago Marathon this year because I wanted some breakfast food, as it is my favorite meal of the day. Well unfortunately, around 3pm there aren't many options available for breakfast unless you want to hit up a run of the mill diner. I wanted something more than that. This was a celebration meal! I looked around Logan Square because a friend we met up with lives there, so Cafe con Leche was amongst the top place to appear in my search. Okay let's go! We walk in, the place is half empty half filled. Perfect! We order our food, I get this incredible cafe con leche in the biggest mug ever. I'm glad it was so big cause I didn't want that drink to end. I had the steak and eggs which single handedly brought me back to the living world. The steak was so good! I know they have a lunch menu too so next time I come I need to try that. It's a bit embarrassing how this was my first ever time at this restaurant but they gave me such a lasting impression that I'm ready to go back soon! read more

We really enjoyed our dinner here. We had a reservation, and was given a table right away. They did take a little long to take our order, and once the order was taken, I had to wait patiently once again for my drink to arrive. But other than that their service was flawless. I tried their house margarita for $6 during happy hour. Regular price is $10 so I jumped on that real quick. My wife ordered their Ropa Vieja sandwich and I ordered their Asada Enchiladas once I noticed that they are served with skirt steak. The Ropa Vieja sandwich was served with rice and black beans. The sandwich itself was delicious. Shredded braised beef served with cotija cheese packed in between French bread. My skirt steak enchiladas were amazing. The skirt steak was diced and covered with salsa ranchera and crema. The steak was perfectly cooked but would have preferred the salsa to have a little more of a kick. It was still flavorful and served with a side of Mexican rice and retried beans. You can't come to Cafe con Leche without actually ordering some Cafe con Leche. It was delicious and large so leave some room for some after dinner sipping. We wanted to try some dessert and were shocked to see they actually offered Capirotada. I've never seen Capirotada on any menu ever, so we had to get it. You get a slice of house made Mexican bread pudding made with chocolate abuelita, piloncillo sauce topped with vanilla ice cream. It was very filling and you could tastes hints of that abuelita. Overall, I really enjoyed my entire dinner and wouldn't hesitate returning. And they have parking in the rear which is a huge plus. We were in Chicago for a little four-day vacation. Hungry for breakfast on a Wednesday afternoon (around noon), we popped into Cafe Con Leche for some grub. It was packed inside, but we got a table quickly. Our waiter was wearing a mask, but most employees were not. It's May 2022, though, so not mandatory. I ordered the Veggie Burrito. My partner ordered the Croissant Sandwich (minus cheese). Both dishes came out quickly and very hot, which was a plus. The potatoes came with both meals and were a very generous portion. I love breakfast potatoes, but sometimes the greasiness hurts my stomach. These potatoes, however, were flavorful and fluffy--not greasy. We loved them. The burrito and sandwich were both huge. The flavors were great and exactly what we hoped for. Good portions, well constructed, very fresh. The price matched the value. The only downside was how hot it was inside the place. It was a cool, breezy day, and it had to be 80 degrees in there. I am a cold person, so I was fine. I just took off my hoodie. It may have been a fluke that day? Not sure. I've walked past this place a bunch of times. Finally my brother and I decided to check it out. The atmosphere is awesome! Great Latin decor combined with perfect tempo music. It makes you want to try everything and dance while you do so. My brother ordered the torta which is what I intended to. Unfortunately, I decided to go with the Jibarito. While it was pretty good, it paled in comparison to his. The combination between really dry plantain flour(?!) for the breading, the moist chicken breast, and the raw vegetables made for an impossible-to-hand-eat mess of a sandwich. The flavors weren't a bad combination when I could get them all at once just not what I had in mind. Again, I mis-ordered so this is still a five star place. Great spot near the Blue Line! As a commuter, I appreciate an easily accessible location. This spot is a couple minutes walk from the Blue Line and well worth the trip! It was very easy to make a reservation for 2 on a Thursday evening, although we also could have just as easily walked in. On this warm night the windows were open and the back patio was available. Plenty of fresh air! Started off with a margarita, half salt, half Tajin on the rim - wonderful. Food came out very quickly! I was shocked! There's lots to choose from, no matter what time of day you go. There are even specials available for dinnertime. I settled on a torta with the option of rice and beans instead of fries. Everything was good! For the price, I felt like I got a good deal. Our server was nice, wait wait scratch that...ALL our servers were nice. My husband ordered the Asada Fajitas ($20.95, juicy grilled steak with a heap of bell peppers and onions, with a side of guac, mexican rice, and refried beans). This seemed to be the popular dish of the night. So many people were ordering it. I thought that it seemed pricey for the amount of steak received. It was enough food for one person... if you wanted to split this dish, I guarantee you'd be fighting for the steak haha. It was still good. The service here is great! Our waters were always filled.
