Cafe Castillo is located inside the Ashley Furniture store in Hoover. The store's parking lot is probably the most heavily traveled non-road in the city. It is a cut-through between the Galleria fly-by and Riverchase neighborhoods, and everybody uses it. I've seen the sign for Castillo many times but haven't stopped because I didn't want to impulse buy a couch. But, a benefit to dining inside Ashley furniture is finding a comfortable chair to catch a few post-meal z's. On my visit I tried the Asada Torta, and it was yummy. A Torta is a traditional Mexican sandwich. The bread is called bolillo, and it is a crusty, oblong shaped bun with a soft inside. The bread similar to the French bread loaf that is used to make a New Orleans's Po'boy. The sandwich was made with bite-sized slices of marinated steak. It is topped with grilled onion and peppers, slices of avocado, shredded lettuce, tomato, and a mayonnaise spread. The sandwich was huge, and even though it was cut in half it still took two hands to handle.

I liked it here. Located inside Ashley Furniture. This is a small order at the counter restaurant. Food is brought out to you. About a dozen tables. I had the tex mex burrito. It came with a side of chips which was a little odd. I would have liked some refried beans or something. The burrito was really tasty and cheesy. I ate the whole thing! Hubby ordered chicken tacos. He didn't care for his. Thought it was a little bland. However they do offer two sauces on the table that he could have added but he doesn't like anything spicy. Also he doesn't really like corn tortillas and that is what they come on. So if you prefer flour you better ask for that. The kid got chicken quesadillas which she really liked. They looked really good and there was a lot of them. They also came w a bag of chips. No fountain sodas but they do have sodas in the bottle, sweet tea, and pineapple water. Pricing is great. Everything is made fresh so this is not fast food but if you are in a rush you can always get it to go.

I have been wanting to try this place for...well, literally, years now! Somehow I just never made it as it's location is inside the Ashley Furniture store and I never think of it when I am hungry. Finally got to try it this week and it's really good!! Only one employee there when we went there and he was really nice. Food is made fresh to order, so everything comes out piping hot. We got a California burrito and it was really good. Also got a steak churisso taco and it was amazing! Honestly I am thinking about going back already for another steak churisso taco.....

    Delicious steak burrito!

This is one of the best kept secrets in Hoover! This little family operated restaurant has the nicest people and the most delicious food! This little restaurant is in the back left corner of the Ashley Furniture store. They have a mixture of Tex-Amex food and Authentic Mexican dishes as well. The food is alway freshly made by the order. The ingredients are fresh and the price is extremely affordable. The Grouper Po-Boy sandwich is one of my favorites! You get 2 big pieces of grouper on toasted buns with a vinaigrette mayonnaise sauce, topped with tomatoes, lettuce and sautéed onions, it is absolutely fabulous! The burritos are great too! They are stuffed with meat and cheese, rice and beans, so filling and warms your soul! I would highly recommend giving this place a shot if you never been here!

A true diamond in the rough. Excellent authentic Mexican fare. The torta was the best I've had.

I always wondered about this place located in Ashley's Furniture Store. I ordered 3 steak Tacos, which came loaded with onions and cilantro. They looked better than they tasted, but definitely willing to try them again. They have a variety of options on the menu. I see the Guac Tacos and Tamales in my future...

This place is a diamond in the rough. A lot of people don't know about this hidden gem in the back of the Ashley Furniture store. They have the best torta sandwiches and wonderful quesadillas. If you need a quick bite while in hoover just place a call in order and you won't be disappointed! Authentic Mexican food!

The food is wonderful. Very fresh. This isn't your typical Tex-Mex. They only offer Salsa Verde--- no chips.

Being downtown, parking is not always the greatest, but it was a lovely evening for walking less than a block to the restaurant. It was a Saturday evening so there was a little wait, but we were able to sit outside and have a drink while we waited. Once inside, the place was dimly lit, really loud with music and very clean. And for having unisex bathrooms, those were surprisingly clean as well. Our waitress was great, I wish I could remember her name... but I do know she was from Cali. We ordered a couple of strawberry margaritas, which were just your basic drink, but still refreshing. Started off with a basket of chips, salsa and fundido. This is considered an appetizer, so no freebies here. The chips were fresh and warm, the salsa had a nice flavor and the fundido was ok according to the kiddo. We had the grilled shrimp tacos with rice and beans. You had to assemble your own tacos tonight, and order rice and beans separately as the taco plate had no sides, but all delicious.... Beans had a nice kick, the shrimp tacos were missing something in my opinion, but not sure what. We also had the best shrimp quesadilla we ever tried. It has overly stuffed and cheesy with wonderful lime cream sauce to go with it. This entree was a huge hit all around and it did come with a side, so no extra charges. To finish off dinner, we all shared the strawberry tres leches and OMG... Absolutely the best we have had in a while. Too bad it's seasonal. Over all, great experience and would definitely g

Since I got take-out, I can only speak to their take-out. However, I do feel that if they can get 5-stars for take-out, then their dine-in is surely 5-stars! Still warm when I opened it up 15 minutes after pick up, which tells me they were fresh and hot when packed! It's excellent, but what makes it next level is that SALSA BAR with the best salsas I've ever had. It reminds me of taquerias in California. I drowned my taco in all of the sauces. In fact, I could probably be happy eating tortillas and salsa here. Because, yes, the tortillas are that delicious. As is that guac. Again, some of the best I've ever had, gimmicky tableside guac included (never felt that was such a great thing anyway). Here, you get a generous portion of the creamiest quality guac you can imagine. I can't report on the margaritas other than to say they look gorgeous. They had a Verde sauce as well as regular salsa, and a Salsa Borachja sauce with onion, garlic and Mexican beer. It was spicy and delicious.
