Usually I have a good time here. Food is decent . Margaritas are fantastic. Wine is exceptional. My problem is more so the staff. Our waiter was amazing he recommended good wine and brought food out in a timely manner. Back to the staffing, they should watch what they say. I'm all for customer service being in it myself. But do not say out loud in front of customers "oh they left you a note? That's nice but let me see the tip they left." As my husband and I were walking out the door. I understand waiting staff lives on tips but don't be greedy and comment where paying customers hear you. Have some respect and curiosity to keep it to yourself. We felt pressured to move, and then we didn't even have enough room to seat our group until another party left. It took 30 minutes for our orders to be put in. Our waitress, Whitney, asked everyone in our party for their orders except for me. Rounds of drinks came out sporadically. It took 20 minutes to get refills on waters. We've been there many times and never had a bad meal. Love the cocktails. I get a custom Margarita and they always make it perfect with Citrus Vodka. We have been going through the menu trying things we have never had. This time we tried GAMBERETTY AL VINO Pasta. It was delicious! I really want to like this place since Café Bravo has been an Oakdale staple for years, but our experience yesterday was disappointing. The service was very poor. I had to get up three separate times to ask for chips, refills, and basic items. Our server was rude and seemed uninterested in helping. For a Saturday at 4 PM, the wait time was far too long considering how few tables were full. The nachos were another letdown. Covered in black beans and lacking flavor or presentation. I also ordered a Cadillac margarita, but it didn't taste like it had any tequila at all. The one positive was that the beer was cold, and the restaurant has history in town, but unfortunately, that's not enough to make up for the overall experience and overpriced menu. read more

Okay, we were driving by Oakdale, and see a 4.6 star joint with over 400 reviews. It must be legit. We had to stop by. Initially we weren't too excited that it was Latin food, not because we don't like it but after a long drive none of us were in the mood for taking risks. Other than the guac not being absolutely fresh (still fresh though), the food turned out to be awesome, given the location and price point. The fish taco with battered cod was perhaps one of the best I've had. It almost came out like a Mexican salad with plenty of onions, lettuce on a bed of rice. But lifted with tortillas, it was again fascinating. The steak was juicy but you shouldn't expect steakhouse steak here. And the pasta was also solid for the kids. Also, the gentleman who served us was super friendly. We initally felt like we were being stood up but once he found us, everything was wonderful. Oakdale is a city/town you drive by a lot on your way to Yosemite. And when doing so, I highly recommend stopping by at Cafe Bravo. But today, Chilaquiles was on the lunch menu, what a disappointment C'mon Cafe Bravo chips are cheap, I could count the 10, ten chips I got!!! We went to Cafe Bravo to celebrate my daughter's milestone birthday. The service was excellent. The burritos were huge. The fajitas were prepared like steak Mexicana, with tomatoes. It wasn't a favorite. The steak salad was tasty and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There was a large group seated across from us. They were so loud and raucous that we couldn't hear each other when we tried to have a conversation. I understand a restaurant can't control the noise of people who are dining in their restaurant but the entire restaurant is just hard surfaces so the sounds reverberated - making the noise level even more obnoxious. read more

Cafe Bravo is a restaurant with a full service bar. The place was packed the night we dined (Friday night). I highly suggest making reservations! Our waitress was so nice I wish I remembered her name so I can shout her out here. We had a fairly large group and she took care of us with wonderful service. The restaurant is broken up into 3 rooms it seemed like. They have an option to sit at the bar but then they also have high tables and regular tables throughout restaurant. The bathroom is the sore spot of the restaurant as it is a one stall restaurant. Most of the time you have to wait in line. The best dish I tried was the pesto shrimp that my friend ordered. Not my first review of Cafe Bravo but another rave review. We were feeling lazy so I called in a take out order. The man I spoke with was spot on with in taking our order. We had several changes and subs and he was not flustered. My husband picked up our order in the time frame given and it was ready! We got our dinner home and it was exactly how we requested. My husband loves the Bravo Burrito with all red sauce. My carne asada was tender, juicy and perfectly cooked. I subbed grilled veggies for the rice and beans bc I do low carb. Just an aside, I ordered carne asada recently at a Modesto restaurant and it was awful, shoe leather in quality and cooking. They need to take a lesson from Cafe Bravo! We were seated quickly and attended to. The food seems more tex-mex to me, versus the typical taqueria menu. Order: -Volcano: This was something recommended and sure was an eruption. It's served in a molcajete and sauces were hot and bubbling. It comes with a side of flour/corn tortilla, refried beans, arroz verde, pico de gallo, guacamole, cheese, and sour cream to share for two. Café Bravo is definitely a Mexican Fusion type style restaurant which isn't my cup of tea but I'm still going to review it fairly. For food, I wanted to try something small so I just ordered the Chino Latino Egg Rolls. I think they were tasty. The chicken tasted well-cooked, and seasoned right, but I couldn't taste the spinach cream. I think the cheese overpowered the taste. The black beans were overcooked. I got some bean pieces that were hard to chew on. I did not enjoy the sesame sauce. It had a very strong bitter taste to it. However, the avocado cream was very tasty. You also get complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa I found tasty and not spicy at all-- for those not wanting spicy salsa. The service was excellent. Our waiter whom I didn't get his name. He is young, tall, slender with dirty blonde hair. He is very much on top of his customers orders. Constantly checked in, seeing if we anything was needed. Refills, etc. Atmosphere is cool.
