This cafe is tucked deep into Flushing, but it offers a lovely and cozy respite from the dreary, drizzly weather that seems to follow me whenever I stop by. They change their decorations to match the seasons and holidays, so on my most recent visit, the place was aglow with warm lighting, and colorful fall leaves and twinkling little lights hung from the ceiling and walls. They mainly serve drinks and crepes, plus a few shaved ice options. I always get the hot Earl Grey lavender tea latte and the Lady Nana crepe. I love the crepe's crispy edges, plus the crumbled shortbread and banana slices. It's also accompanied by an ice cream "scoop" the size of a football. Not a fan of the Cottage crepe, which comes with cottage cheese, peaches, and apparently a hint of strawberry jam that was so mild I couldn't taste it at all. The canned peach slices are syrupy sweet and they make the crepe soft and mushy. The texture of the cottage cheese also doesn't match with the crepe. To be fair, my friend liked it, I just didn't. Cafe Bench is a cafe with one of the best interior decorations I've ever seen - very aesthetically pleasing. It's the prettiest cafe I've been to, but I'm biased towards green plants and string lights haha. Street parking is usually not a problem to find. It's a social cafe, so expect a good amount of chit chat inside. As for the desserts - we're paying for aesthetics here ;) My favorite warm drink to get here is the honey bush tea latte ($4.75) - love the foam! Even the regular house coffee comes with tasty foam. I also recommend the Sweet Forest ($10.25), a delicious strawberry, sweet red bean (azuki) sauce, green tea ice cream with choco drizzle & almond dessert that can be shared between 2 people. The green tea ice cream is on point - just the right amount of sweet and bitter. Cons about Cafe Bench: - I believe there are only two outlets for use in the entire place, which are located on one side of the cafe wall. I like the attention to detail and the casual sit down environment where you order at the front and go pick it up. Seems like a place you could sit and talk for hours. It's great for first coffee dates or casual friend gatherings. Maybe more of a local spot. It's not necessarily a place you need to run to if it's far away from you because the crepe I had kinda sucked and the rest don't really have anything special going on. My crepe came with a crushed milano cookie on top with crushed graham crackers inside. A tiny scoop of whipped cream with a single strawberry slice. It was supposed to have a cookie butter spread but I don't think it did, and if so I couldn't taste it. It was soooooo dry! It needed a chocolate drizzle or something to moisten it. It didn't help that they overcooked the crepe and that was dry/crispy too. I don't think the price and quality is worth a second visit. I had asked for cheesecake crumbles and they tried to charge me the whole piece of a cheesecake which was worth almost the same price of the crepe. Toppings are usually $1-3 more not $7. The crepe with the cheesecake cost $1.75 more than mine anyway. It made me feel like they cared more about getting every possible penny from a sale rather than the quality. read more

What a beautiful local cafe, it's a real gem hidden in plain sight, right on Northern Blvd in Auburndale! As soon as you walk in, you feel like someone was designing a grand set for a fairytale. Many of the food and drinks have a light touch of whimsical fun as well, and taste pretty good! The crepes are very good, golden and just slightly crisp. They have some fantastic drinks and ice cream desserts, and it's fairly spacious for the area! The Sunshine Mocha was a surprise hit for it. It's mocha with just a hint of bright citrus and cocoa cinnamon. The ice cream in my affogato was a great texture and flavor as well. There is a $15 credit card minimum, which I feel is fair for a local cafe. The staff is reasonable friendly and attentive, which is a big plus in my book, especially since I understand how tiring it can get being on your feet all day. Finally, I actually like that they don't make you sign your signature on those iPad payment system that a lot of trendy cafes often use now for credit cards - you know what I mean! The indoor atmosphere is always so cozy and they have seasonal decorations, making it perfect for a date! It can get a little loud though on an weekend evening. Worst service ever!! I came in with my family and had to wait 30 minutes until my food was ready. Ridiculous because there were many people behind us but we were the last ones waiting. On top of that they told us we could order but they close at 10 so we could only do takeout which I understand is the law but don't take 30-35 min to make my food then. I noticed I had to go up and ask for a menu and then to place my order. Once we decided what to order I went up to the counter to order and greeted the guy behind the counter with a hello, how are you doing? And then I get a blank stare, I'm really good with body language so it basically meant what do you want. So I place my order and I get a Bombón specialty coffee, it's basically a martini glass with warm espresso and a little bit of ice cream on top, prob two sips and it's all over for a bit $5, ummmm not thanks it's not that serious! Then we ordered 2 crepes a savory one Called mamas with turkey and provolone and what they call a side salad (a tiny piece of lettuce and beet) for $9, then the dessert crepe, that's it's just a pancake for about $6. Basically every dish here was absolutely overpriced and sooo not worth it. The portions were pretty much for a 2 year old. Next time I'll bring my toddler. It really upsets me when a business has so much potential but they lack basic business management skills. Like charge me whatever as long as you give me an adult size portion. I tried the Strawberry and Banana Crepe at that time and it was a delicious dessert. Recently, my friend and I saw that they had shaded outdoor seating available, so we decided to grab some drinks here after eating lunch. We just ordered iced tea (green tea & peach mango green tea) as a pick-me-up in the middle of the day. Masks are required to go into the cafe to order. The staff also wears masks and keeps the menu out on a table right in front of the register. Probably won't come here again for the tea, since I can make my own tea at home for no cost, BUT I will be back for the crepes and bingsoo (shaved ice)!! I hope NYC allows indoor seating soon because I miss sitting inside this aesthetic cafe. But at the end of the night prior to their announcement that they were going to close, I went up for a bottle of water and the woman behind the register gave me quite the attitude as she thought she had no more transactions. The only thing they've got going for them is their aesthetic/decor but don't come here expecting good service, especially from the middle aged female Korean cashier. We recently came half an hour before closing and we spent half an hour just waiting in line. When we got to the counter, she wouldn't even let me talk before saying "only takeout now. The vanilla ice cream was creamy. The Manhattan truffle didn't taste as good too many cherries in the middle and wasn't as creamy as the vanilla ice cream. The Elvis he did mention was good. this cafe is easily a favorite of mine and i've only been once. my best friend and i took a trip to this small, yet super cute cafe for my 20th birthday. the establishment has a different ordering process than other places. you take a menu from the bar and sit wherever you'd like. once you're set on what you'd like, go back up to the bar. the food and drinks are very decently priced. i would get another food item next time because the crepe was good but i still felt peckish after. this is more on me than them because it was a great size, this was just my first meal of the day. on my next trip, i definitely want to try one of the ice creams, those look divine. read more
