We decided not to wait an hour at Lambert's even though it is one of my all-time favorite restaurants. So, based on Yelp reviews, we crossed the street to Cafe B-29. I ordered the B-29 Brat Burger and my wife ordered the Ultimate Hawaiian Chicken sandwich. Both sandwiches were excellent! My wife said her potato salad was the best she has ever had. I upgraded my side to onion rings and they were fantastic! And...I had so many rings I shared half of them with my wife. The service was amazing too. The waitress was the best we have had in years. This is probably my favorite burger/American food diner. Everything is made to order and their hand cut fries are just to die for. When I leave I am never disappointed and say to myself "yep. I'm glad I ate that". I honestly don't say that about many places. The service is always professional and amazing. and the food comes out hot hot hot. I very rarely post reviews to Yelp, or anywhere for that matter. And it's remarkably easy to fall into the trap of only commenting or reviewing things when the experience is lack luster or worse (I'm looking at you FB). Not this time. B-29 Cafe was a fantastic dining experience from beginning to end. Oh and for those wondering, Service time was quick. The walls are a museum of old military memorabilia: old uniforms, pictures, medals etc. The table I chose to sit at was directly under some sort of hanging bomb/missle. The hanging table lamps are old army helmets, and some of the tables are part mortar rocket tube. I know nothing about military armaments, so that's the best description you're going to get. I do know food however, and B-29 Cafe's menu was straightforward, reasonably priced, and chock full of options. I decided to get the Jalapeno Popper Dip and the Ultimate Hawaiian Chicken sandwich. The dip was incredible. Light and creamy with jalapeno zest, it came in this rather large boat dish which meant there was more than enough for my wife and I to tackle. Served with Tortilla chips, and not the wimpy thin cantina style chips you get at local Mexican restaurants, these were thick with a nice crunch. They proved the perfect vessel for delivering delicious JP dip to my mouth. Enough of that. THE Sandwhich was a huge pleasant surprise. Breaded chicken, a layer of ham, a dollop of the previously mentioned JP Dip, two grilled pineapples, something that is referred to as rosie sauce, all between two buns. I got the Potato Salad as a side which I also enjoyed, but the sandwich was a delicious experience after a long hard day at work. Juicy chicken blended perfectly with that addictive dip and the grilled pineapple and rosie sauce gave a light sweetness that blended well with the melting pot of flavors. Beyond food, the music was a pleasant surprise. I don't know how many Fallout fans troll yelp, especially those that call Ozark their stomping grounds, but the atmosphere of this place reminded me of a classic diner in Fallout. The music was all old gems from the 30s, 40s, and 50s. The type of stuff KBFL 99.9 should go back to playing instead of their blend of 60s and 70s. Old Jazz and vocal standards by Bing Crosby, and several other artists LOOOOOOONG before my time. It was great. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our experience. I think my one year old son did too, but you know, he can't exactly tell me, but he seemed to gobble the cheese quesadilla and squeal in excitement randomly. Also he likes to stare at things/people and with the previously mentioned decor, there was a lot for him to look at. I think he enjoyed it. Check it out next time your in Ozark. read more

Wow, what a cute restaurant!!! Our patty melt sandwich was excellent and served warm with great green beans and cool onion rings- not so great. The other chicken fried chicken was good with the mashed potatoes, gravy, and beans. The place is cute and was very busy on a Wednesday at 6:00pm. .. the staff were nice and the prices were very good... I highly recommend you try this place ... The best catfish we've had in a very long time. Our waitress was very attentive and got our order perfect! The slaw was good and homemade fries yum! She asked if we were veterans? Awesome atmosphere! The walls have a ton of patriotic military memorabilia. The food was really good. We had a large party of nine people including children. Our server was great and got food orders correct. We had the Jalapeño Popper dip, which was fantastic. Also had a really good fried mushrooms appetizer. The main courses for our party included the Tank Nachos, Jalapeño popper burger, French dip, and a couple of Monte Cristo sandwiches. The nachos are sized to feed four people, so be prepared for a challenge if you get it as an entree for one. The Monte Cristo sandwiches style the show for our table. Everyone agreed that they weren't heavy and overly sweet. We found the lack of a dusting of powdered sugar odd but not needed. The children thoroughly enjoyed their dinners of cheese quesadillas and grilled cheese sandwiches. Would highly recommend this place for anyone in the area. read more

If you see local folks patronizing a place it's a tip that the food is good. Well it was. Wanted the jalapeño popper burger but it was half a pound - too big for me. Since we were on our way through takeouts were no option. We both had the crispy chicken bacon salad which was on a bed of organic greens - big win. Love a place that starts us out with two napkins. Another plus. House made blue cheese dressing was good but not strong. The atmosphere is military and the place is cozy. Enjoyed this stop. read more

Had dinner here with family tonight, I had the Jalapeno popper burger and it was amazing. I could just eat a bowl of that dip. The hand cut fries were also really good and even better when dipped in the Jalapeno dip on the burger. Others in the family had the Brat burger, Bumstead burger, and tenderloin. Everyone really enjoyed the food. My only complaint is the service is a little slow. 45 minutes once we ordered until food came out. I will definitely be going back. read more

Stopped in here because the wait at Lambert's was ridiculous. Neat decor, friendly staff. The jalapeño popper burger was good, if a little overcooked (I asked for medium). Great hand-cut fries! Our biggest complaint was the wait time... We were seated (with our three children) for nearly a full hour before our food began to arrive, and the restaurant was nowhere near a capacity crowd. Just not a great first impression. Hopefully just a fluke, and would certainly give them another chance. read more

What a terrific surprise. We were headed to Lambert's as we drove from Branson to Kansas City and were disappointed that the wait there was over an hour long. Relying on my trusted Yelp App, I found this wonderfully World War II themed cafe. The fried pickles were perfectly tart and well seasoned. The burger was one of the best home cooked style burgers I have has in years but the house-made french fries knocked the meal out of the park. Don't waste a minute across the road when eats like this and such great service are so close. read more

Ugh! I had high expectations with the military theme. Boy was I disappointed. Waitress was sloppily dressed. No uniform or themed dress which would have been memorable (Rosie the riveter, etc). The worst part was the food selection. Hamburgers, sandwiches and salads oh my. The pork tenderloin was straight from Sysco. Quesadilla was tasty but I could make one just like it at home. Sides were over salted and tasted old like they had been in the fridge too long. I asked about coffee and waitress said it was made 4 hours ago. Never offered to make fresh! I would not recommend this cafe and will not return. read more
