Beautiful day for lunch on the patio at Cafe Aruza. I live out of town and try to get here when I visit and am never disappointed. My spinach/chicken lavosh wrap was amazing! The Lavosh was light and flakey, the chicken moist and flavorful - hands down a great dish. My friends had their famous curried chicken salad and loved every bite. Our server was Erin and she provided outstanding, friendly service. They were busy (and she's pregnant) but she didn't let it slow her down. She was super attentive and personable. I feel for Cafe Arazu on the particular day that we were there. It was a lovely day and we sat out on the patio. The place itself is adorable and I love the area. Our waiter was very very kind, but unfortunately somebody wasn't on their game. Our drinks took at least 20-30 minutes to arrive. The food showed up, but wasn't anything to write home about. When the drinks finally arrived, the poor guy dropped them all. So that was about another 15 minutes. I will say that they were gracious enough to give us our appetizers for free due to the inconvenience, so this was very nice. I would go back for this reason. read more

I am soooo glad my boyfriend selected this restaurant for dinner. Service was AMAZING and all the recommendations were spot on. We had their spinach and artichoke dip which was absolutely amazing and I had chicken Shawarma for my meal. They have a different type of rice every day and our selection was curry and raising. The only reason for a low star is the die to the service. The food is amazing and has typically been wonderful for the years we have been coming here. The service prior to today has always been good as well. However the experience today with Alisha S was horrible, horrendous. I would only come back if I knew she was not working. I couldn't imagine being the owner of Arzu and having someone speak to my customers the ways she does. I am not sure if she is family relation of the owners and that is acceptable but I would fire any of my employees if they spoke to another human being in the tone and manner that Alisha speaks. This place is full of character and has a beautiful location with a view of the river! The patio and deck are surrounded by a beautiful garden full of flowers with a water fountain ambiance. The service was fantastic and we were seated prior to our quoted wait time. The hummus appetizer was incredible. By far the best we've had anywhere, so fresh and flavorful! We ordered the lamb chop entree and the lamb was so perfectly cooked it was falling off the bone, more tender than a beef steak. I would highly recommend trying that! Long wait, mediocre food, and bad service. Got to restaurant and had a one hour wait. Finally got a table, but neat to front door in waiting room...not optimal. Seemed very short staffed. We had to get up from table to find our server when we needed something. Appetizer was good (cigar rolls) but my beef kabobs were very charred and chewy. This is one of my favorite places in the Newburgh area. I love it. I've tried several of the appetizers including bruschetta, falafel, wrappetizers, hummus trio, cheese plate, and shrimp. They're all fantastic. I think it honestly depends on what I'm in the mood for. They also have the BEST Caesar salad. I haven't tried anything similar or better. Meal wise I've tried a few and they were all good, but I always find myself falling back to the kubideh. It comes with two "skewers", like a lamb beef hybrid choice of rice with vegetables, then either mint or cucumber dill sauce. I always go with the second. Since moving to Nashville, this is one meal and place I literally crave. Dessert wise I've tried the Lithuanian torte, carrot cake, and recently a blueberry lemon mascarpone cake. I really like the torte especially since it's definitely something you can't find somewhere else but the other two are also awesome. I hear the cheesecake and baklava are amazing, but I haven't tried them. I'd definitely recommend checking this place out to anyone. read more

I'd been wanting to try this place for several years and finally made it! I live in Indianapolis and visit family in Evansville every few months and it had been on my radar for a while and will absolutely be going back. I loved the decor and general vibe of the place which has 3-4 small rooms, a screened in deck and outdoor patio seating. They have little decorative accents and hookahs that help transport you visually to the Mediterranean region. The menu is nice because while it focused on Med food, has other internationally inspired dishes from India, Thailand, etc. the food prices were very reasonable. As someone who has been to Turkey and Morocco, I really appreciate when I can find a good place with flavors like this in Indiana. Is it totally "authentic", no, but still brings some of that inspiration that you don't find a lot. Our server was super nice and food came out fairly fast. We also go there early at 5:30 on Fri before it got crowded which may have helped. The building is old and it's not the fanciest place, but that's part of the charm to me! The food here is good for the area. Probably the only decent mediterranean place. They have few vegetarian options which I really liked and they are always willing to customize to help you have a good experience. I tried their gnocchi at one of the locations and it was good. Wow!!! Have been by this place several times while in town visiting family and finally were able to stop in. So very glad we did. The food was absolutely delicious. Ordered the Kebbeh (Lebanese beef croquettes) as our appetizer. For the main meal I ordered the chicken Shawarma with fried potatoes and a spicy dipping sauce, my daughter ordered the Gyro sandwich with a side Greek salad. Definitely recommend trying this place! You MUST, MUST, MUST try Cafe Arazu if you are in the Evansville or Newburgh area. I'm very skeptical of most restaurants in this area because lets be honest, most places have terrible quality foods that only fulfill the standard American diet demand. I've also been spoiled by incredible Mediterranean options in Colorado. THIS PLACE BEATS ALMOST ALL OF MY FAVORITES AT HOME! Yes, you heard that correctly. Let me start from the very beginning of my visit to Cafe Arazu. As soon as I walked up to the entrance I knew it would be a great experience. The location is the heart of downtown Newburgh right along the river. We were greeted instantly by a super friendly employee that gave us the option to sit outside. Our view consisted of the sunset and the flow of the river. (It's a bit dirty but that's beside the point!) Our server, Adam, was a true delight! As soon as we were seated, he made sure to notify us that he would be right back to assist us. I ordered a pot of Moroccan Mint Tea to share with my friend. Adam picked the mint right from the garden! This already won me over before I even looked at menu any further. The tea was so delicious and soothing. Honestly, it probably was one of my favorite things about my visit here. The only downfall is that they don't have very many vegetarian options here. This was surprising to me, as most Mediterranean options in my area offer plentiful options for those of us who don't consume animals. I was hopeful that they would have a vegetarian platter to try out a few different options. I opted to ordering the few appetizers that were vegetarian. Nonetheless, I was so satisfied with everything here. If I'm ever in the area again, which hopefully I won't be, I will make this the first stop on my list! read more

I'm not typically one to write Yelp reviews but this was quite an experience... It had been awhile since my boyfriend and I had ate at Arazu. We remembered the spot for their amazing cakes so thought we'd try them out on a Saturday night with the intent of doing a full three-course meal (app, entree, dessert). To start, it took two hours to get seated when we were initially told 45-50 minutes. Once seated, it took another hour and a half to finally get our entree. Three and a half hours after arriving at Arazu, we finally got to the best part - dessert. We ordered three pieces of the lemon berry cake and one piece of the chocolate to go because we were ready to leave. It took 30 minutes to get said cake. Once it arrived at our table, we were told that they were out of the lemon berry cake so they gave us some frozen lemon berry cake from the freezer. They said to wait an hour and it should be good to eat. The chocolate cake was a very small slice (and the only edible slice of cake at this point) in comparison to the lemon berry slices. After four hours, we finally left with our frozen cake. Overall our entree and appetizer were great. It didn't quite make up for the fact that we were there for four hours though. We also, didn't expect to leave with frozen dessert from a restaurant. That was a new one for me. If we waited for our cake to thaw out our overall dining experience with Azaru would amount to about five hours total. The food is great and normally the cake is as well. Just anticipate spending an abnormally large amount of time here if you plan to have dinner here on the weekend... We'll likely be getting take out next time. read more

We have had some good experiences at the Newburgh Cafe Arazu in the past. Unfortunately this was not a repeat performance. After we walked through the patio and saw a number of open tables, we registered with our hostess. We waited for our table past the time we were told and saw others who came in after us get seated on the patio sooner than we did. In addition, after we brought this to the hostess's attention, she said that she was just going to call us for a table. Unfortunately the promised waitress didn't show up until after other tables (seated after us) were served by another waitress. In order to get things moving quickly, when the waitress did show up, we ordered the appetizers, entrees and hot tea. The falafels were good, tasty and different than before. The shrimp appetizers were very good also. Unfortunately, the tea didn't show up until we reminded the waitress who apologized and came back saying that the tea we ordered wasn't available anymore. We ordered a substitute which was tasty, but, again, not up to previous standards. Previous tea order had a lovely selection of sweeteners and additives. This one had prepackaged commercial sugar packets (probably covid protocol, but still disappointing). Our entrees were also disappointing with the Butter chicken not as good as we make at home and the accompanying rice not fully cooked. The steak and potato dish had meat that was not as warm as it should be and the roasted vegetables were not fully roasted. The potatoes were the best part of the dish. So, the service and the food were both disappointing. I'm not certain that we'll be back. When you go out with your wife, it's not a good idea to make a big stink and ruin the night. The staff at Cafe Arazu needs to get their act together. Next time I'll think twice about going back. read more

Unfortunately seated near the bathroom so there was a strange stare & interaction for everyone involved each time they needed to take care of their business. The food was incredible, the wait time was nearly too much but on a busy Saturday night, it's to be expected. Our poor server seemed new, but she tried her best & was pleasant the entire time.
