It is unrealistic to expect certain food to be cooked fresh, and realistically we do not at Café Arazu. But we do expect the food not to be served burnt. We went out for dinner last week and were served burnt food--I took pictures and I wish I could post them. Considering some of the positive reviews about this restaurant, we wanted to be considerate and brought it to our server's attention. Rather than to offer to make the food again, the manager gave us an option to either eat the food offered or leave if I do not like it. We were told that we do not have to pay for the food. We are out on a Saturday night for a good dinner experience, not for free food. We paid for our food, didn't eat anything and left without eating. Just a terrible overall experience and would never go there again. read more

Good food even with a somewhat limited menu. Great wine selection though. We went on a weekend evening in a group of five and had great service and the whole staff (including owner) were hospitable and knowledgeable. Overall, pretty unique in a good way for the surrounding area and well worth a shot. Puts Newburgh on the map for fine evening dining. Reservations are probably a good idea. Great food - nice selection of middle eastern classics and other more mainstream dishes, all done very well. The atmosphere inside is charming and uniquely decorated, and the outside seating area is large, nicely shaded and landscaped beautifully. They also have an amazing bar inside, rich wood and a great beer selection. Definitely the best place to eat in Newburgh! read more

I want to start off by saying that we have eaten at Cafe Arazu for years and told countless people about how good their food is, but tonight we had a horrible experience. Our servers name was Chautauqa We had to ask for every refill, felt like we were bothering her asking her for silverware (because our table of four only had three.) She seemed exasperated when my husband asked her to take his order last because he was unsure of what he wanted. Then, after dinner, we made the MISTAKE of asking another server (or hostess) for tea because our server was nowhere to be found. When our server returned, she returned with the wrong tea and an attitude that I could not believe. She said "Is there anything else you will be needing before we close at 9:00?" It was the tackiest, most smart ass way of saying it. We were so shocked we all kind of sat there. Our bill was over $60.00, there was a restaurant FULL of people, not to mention the owner sitting at the bar. I thought about walking over to the owner and telling him about our server, but I would never cause a scene or want to embarrass anyone. I want to make the owner aware of Chautauqas attitude BECAUSE I think more people should eat at local places. If the food is great (which it is) that's only half the battle, business stay afloat by word of mouth, and having a server treat me and my family like sh*t enough to make me NEVER want to go there again. read more

My wife and I entertained my sister and niece from LA. The food as good as advertised, the atmosphere nice, and the hostesses very good. That is the positive side. For a successful restaurant with a good rep for food, why is there but one bathroom? We were seated near the lone bathroom and patrons stood in line the entire time we were there. Our waiter, Chad, was sarcastic and his service was poor. We can't recommend this restaurant to our friends. There is plenty of good competition in and around Evansville. My husband and I went last night, and were a little concerned our favorite place is going down hill. As soon as we walked in the door we heard tables walking out because they were never given a table, and the younger manager just watched them leave and did not apologize or get up to help the overwhelmed host. Our server was very polite and took the time to talk us into branching out and trying the Thai salmon, which was AMAZING, and kept our waters full. Drinks from the bar, however, took at least 20 minutes, and we had bottled beer which was rather annoying. Hopefully it was just a busy night because the management did not seem concerned with the slow bar service or tables walking out. Other than that, the server gave great customer service and the food was divine! read more

We had dinner for the first time at Café Arazu on Weds 9/23, and am sad to say it was disappointing. We'd had lunch there once before and thought it was terrific, so we were excited to try the dinner menu. We arrived early (5pm) and were given a bit of a hard time by the person seating because we did not have a reservation. Of all the tables on the veranda, only 2 of them were being used, so we wondered what the issue was. When she seated us she let us know we had to be out by 7:30 because that table was spoken for. Not a problem, since we certainly didn't need 2.5 hours to eat, but still made us feel rather unwelcome. I ordered the shrimp & couscous dish and my husband ordered the lamb chops, medium rare. They were overcooked and not well seasoned. My meal was disappointing - only 6 small shrimp, which were all overcooked and rubbery. Not a bad meal - just disappointing for the price. We will go back, but will likely stick to the wraps and sandwich menu. read more
