Wow!!! Yummy tapas and great service! Yay! Chicken and honey was delicious, as was the couscous. Great atmosphere and authentic food!

Had heard a lot of great things about Auriga but wasn't overly impressed with this restaurant…read moreunfortunately, I don't think I would rush back. This Italian restaurant is in a good location, so easily accessible and parking is available (but not private parking). The restaurant is nice inside, the night we were there there was not a lot of people in, we had booked but I am pretty sure we did not need to. The food was traditional Italian and Spanish food and was expensive for what it was and I felt the menu was too large and a little confused. Service was slow and I resented the service charge. In my opinion there are much better Italian restaurants in Aberdeen to try before coming here.

Don't get me wrong the look of the restaurant is ok, and it has a nice lay out inside, but that is where the positives end. To be honest i should have picked up on the signs from the start, we were the only ones to be gracing this establishment on Easter Sunday, when everywhere else was presumably packed to the rafters. Sign number two, pictures of the food items were on the menu, thought you only got this in greasy cafes on the continent. Anyway, we stupidly ignored all the signs, and decided to try the food. Oh how I regret that decision, I ordered chicken with black pudding in a spicy tomato sauce with home made fries. When the food came, I was amazed at the lack of finesse, the dish looked like it had been dropped on the floor, then scraped back onto the plate, expected a bit more for my £13. I tentatively tried my first mouth full, the chicken was the consistency of rubber, and appeared to have been sitting around for days, waiting for the chef to reheat it in the microwave. Upon scrapping off the foul black pudding and spicy sauce it was apparent that the whole chicken breast was dried out, and more akin to crisp than a juicy chicken breast. The apparent chips, were a dirty brown as they had obviously been cooked in month old oil. I can honestly say that I have never seen such a piece of terrible cookery in my whole life. After bringing the dire state of the meal to the attention of the waitress, she assured me that they would cook me up another one, no chance, god knows what would have arrived in front of me this time. Now for the my girlfriends dish, my girlfriend ordered the lamb dish at an incredible £18, for this price I thought this was going to be a top class dish, Ha!! The dish itself was as badly presented as mine. The lamb was one large lump of fat drowned in a sticky brown bisto like gravy. The so called mash was obviously smash from a packet, the veg was so past it's best it was unbelievable, the broccoli was so off it had turned yellow, yet the so called chef had the audacity to send this out for human consumption. I was so astounded that any self respecting chef could send out a such a poor meal, you can probably pick up the same quality of meat from Farmfoods for £1.99. After telling the waitress that we would rather just have the bill than risk trying to eat this disgusting food, they had the cheek to charge us for the food we obviously weren't going to let pass our lips. Unbelievably, the manager did not even see fit to come and speak to us, or apologise for the abomination they were trying to pass off as food. I can honestly say that this is quite possibly, no definitely the worst meal I have ever seen put in front of me in a restaurant. I know that this is rather a long winded review, but I can only say that I feel so strongly about the whole experience I had to try and convey how absolutely awful this place is, take my advice and avoid this place at all costs.

Whisky Galore Oh…read moreboy, if you know your Scottish Cities and their Pubs then you will know what I mean when I say the Grill is to Aberdeen what that Horseshoe is to Glasgow and The Guildford (Or Café Royal, or Bow Bar) is to Edinburgh. And for those of you who don't know your Scottish Cities and their Pubs, allow me to clarify - It's ICONIC!! So, things you need to know, firstly they are rumoured to have the largest Whisky selection in Scotland (RUMOURED). I mean it is ridiculous, I'm sure if a fire started here it would blow up half of Union Street and said explosion could be seen from the Moon. So if you like your Whisky then this is a must visit pub. Secondly, this pub is older than you will ever be, My dad drank here when he was 5, and now he is 80, and people drank there before he was born. It's so old that they had to install ladies toilets a while back as there weren't any - and ladies are allowed to drink alongside men these days! Lastly, it might look like a dump outside, but don't mistake dump for character. This has more character than Monty Python. The floor clearly used to be strewn with sawdust back in the days, and some of the staff have seen more than their fair share of breakfasts - but that all adds to the experience. The experience here is guaranteed to be memorable for all the right reasons!

It is bloody long. The bar is also bloody long. By the way, it is pub and not a Grill. They decided to turn it from a restaurant to a pub around 1900 and never got around to changing the name. Let us get down to the essentials. This is about whisky and pilgrims and Scotland and finding places with a lot of bottles of the aforementioned. Well the Grill has it. 500 bottles. Let that number sink in. One dram a day. After spending a year performing that activity and you have not finished. They have some of the oldest drams on sale anywhere in the world - a 1938 Macallan, Several 1930 Malts and the legendary Black Bowmore. Voted in "Bar of the Year" in 2008 by Whisky Magazine and staffed with folks with Whisky expertise. If you do not like Whisky, then grab an ale and soak in the amazing architecture of this place. CAMRA has named this place as the most northerly Scottish "Pub Interior of Outstanding Historic Interest". So much to offer, you cannot lose by visiting this place. Pilgrims Ho!
