We had the ricotta and honey on toast, meatballs, prosciutto/mozzarella to start, some white wine and of course PIZZA! The pizza was light and cooked perfectly. We had the Dolce Salato and the Diavolina. We loved the Dolce Salato! The Diavolina was good, but I think some more spicy salami or maybe an additional spicy component would have been a good addition to the pizza. It needed just a little bit more on the flavor side. But still everything here is high quality and I would recommend! Service was excellent. We were immediately seated and had the option to sit inside or outside. I first sat inside, then we moved to a larger table outside. What I really appreciated as a new mom, was their openness and flexibility for coming in with a stroller. I was nervous to be a burden to the restaurant, but they were super accommodating. Thank you On room for improvement, I think on a hot day, having the inside space being much much cooler, than the outdoor seating (especially for newborns/really young kids/elderly) would be beneficial. Yesterday it was cool inside to start (and remember I chose to move outside), but they started to leave the front door open to allow for easy movement of staff and guests between inside and outside, which made the indoor space get warmer over time. And I totally get that for the ease of movement for staff/guests, but maybe consider keeping it super cool on the inside, so that kiddos/elderly have a cool space on a really hot day to not overheat. The vibe here is great. Chill, warm and light! Come with family and/or friends and enjoy!

And we sure found a good one in Hamden on Friday. We saw refrigerated cases full of pastas and raviolis, counters with trays of pizzas, showcases with trays of prepared foods like sausage and oeooers, eggplant rollatinis, and seafood marinara, a sandwich counter for cold cuts, and a baked goods counter. We narrowed our want list down to three very different items. We bought two slices of their sausage pizza, two garlic knots, and three eggplant rollatinis. The pizza was fantastic! Super thin crust, plenty (and I mean PLENTY) of cheese, a very good sauce and delicious sausage chunks. Oh, and the slices were enormous. We made a dinner out of the eggplant and garlic knots. The eggplant was sliced so thin, and was so soft and tender, it resembled lasagna noodles! The rollatinis were loaded with ricotta cheese and marinara sauce and it was a fantastic dish. We split the three rolls and let me tell ya, one and a half rolls were plenty for dinner. The garlic knots were ridiculously loaded with garlic, not teeny tiny shavings, but big hunks of garlic cloves. Needless to say, they were fantastic as well. Our total cost was $24.66, and Sapori threw in four complimentary slices of fresh Italian bread with our order. We really loved Sapori a lot.

This place is a fantastic place to go if you're looking for great vibes, good food, and good service. Good for the family, good solo, good with anyone. The food: the food is good. Not great, but good. The only reason I would say it's not great is because some of their meals are inconsistent. For example, what's on their regular menu is consistently tasty, but occasionally choices from their "specials" lack flavor or are just way off-base. Bottom line however, the food is good and they do appetizers quite well. The service: always attentive, always super friendly, and I have yet to experience an issue with anyone from the wait staff. The Bar: the bar is fantastic. There's usually two bartenders on at the same time and they handle the load quite well. One of them (bald man) is extremely friendly and makes you feel welcome from the moment you sit down. The bar itself is not very large, but the room can comfortably fit about 20 people. There's about 3 televisions so if you're trying to catch a specific sports game, there's a decent chance they'll have it on. The Vibes: Vibes to me are exteemelyyyy important when picking a good dinner spot. If you're going alone, or especially with family or guests, you want the Vibes to be just as good as the food... and this place totally delivers in that area. Other then a few booths right near the bathroom (in the back of the restaurant), the Vibes are incredible. From the friendly wait staff, to the perfect lighting and family atmosphere, they're flawless. Bottom line: I highly recommend his place. Great drinks, real good food, awesome vibes, friendly staff -- everything you could want in a restaurant. read more

I called this restaurant to have a dinner for 16 people after my boyfriend's graduation and to say it was awesome- is an understatement. It was PHENOMINAL!!! The manager was very accomodating and pretty much let me plan the meal however I wanted to within my budget. They even included free canoli at the end of the event! The waitress was great, very friendly and we were never waiting for her to bring bread, water, or even better- our drinks! The food was absolutely fabulous! the portions were generous from the appetizers to the entree! I created a "menu" for our event that included selections of meat, pasta, and chicken dishes- all were great! The manager even created mini-menu's so there would be no confusion regarding dinner choices. I've also been there for lunch, they have great grinders that are also generously portioned (an entire loaf of italian bread stuffed with various Italian kitchen specialities such as meatball, eggplant, and chicken parm). Cafe Amici is an awesome restaurant! It has outdoor seating available too which had the graduation not been during a monsoon we would have enjoyed our dinner outside. Defnitely a must try in Hamden!!! read more

Not stellar, but my wife and I enjoyed our meals. This is exactly the type of no-frills Italian place where you really should just go in, order your chicken parm, ignore your free salad in the tacky plastic dish, and be happy with the fact that you had a pretty decent meal and maybe a glass of wine for about $25-30 a person. I went with the Tomato and Basil White Slice, a Foxon Park Extra Pale Ginger Ale (of course!), and a bag of Deep River Plain Sea Salt Chips. The pizza had good flavor, but it was a bit too cheesy for my taste. It took a while to chew through, and I found myself wishing for a little more balance between the cheese and the rest of the slice. Flavor-wise, it wasn't bad--just didn't fully hit the mark for me. On the bright side, that Foxon Park Ginger Ale brought back all the nostalgia. Growing up in New Haven, Foxon Park was a big part of my childhood, so that definitely added a nice touch to the meal.
