Cafe 86 has been around in other parts of the country and finally opened a location in Daly City. Since I knew about all the grand opening festivities, I wanted to wait a while before visiting to let the hype die down a bit. I finally went on a Tuesday afternoon and there were a few others waiting for their orders but nothing too crazy. The space itself is not too big with minimal seating. I ended up ordering their infamous Upside Down Halo Halo (regular size) to go. Upon first glance, it looked very delicious with its vibrant purple color. I also liked how I did not see a huge portion of crushed ice since I don't like all the ice filler in a typical halo halo. This version contains coconut jelly, jackfruit, boba, Frosted Flakes, flan, and a scoop of vanilla ice cream over an ube base. The toppings all worked really well with each other and overall the dessert wasn't too overly sweet. I also realized that Cafe 86 doesn't include all of the beans typically found in a halo halo, and I actually prefer this as well. I'm glad I have a Cafe 86 close enough that I can enjoy the ice cream without it melting too much during transit. I look forward to trying the other items on their menu. read more

Because of my fondness for ube, my coworkers have granted me honorary Filipino status (lol), and I was glad to learn that Café 86 had opened a location near where I live.  We parked in the Seafood City parking lot and walked over to the storefront.  It was a Saturday, and there was a DJ pumping out tunes and a pop-up market selling clothes.  Nestled behind all of these things was the counter for Café 86.  I typically order the ube latte (which has no caffeine... but then I'm not sure what else it is besides ube and milk?) and decided to mix it up by adding a matcha pandan latte.  The ube latte (light ice) was pretty sweet, so I let the ice melt a bit to dilute it.  The matcha pandan latte was VERY light on the matcha flavor and heavy on the pandan flavor (I guess I know what pandan tastes like now).   I didn't see that many customers waiting, but I waited about 15 minutes for my two drinks to come out.  Their halo halos take a while to make, and it is probably what caused my drink to be delayed.  Keep that in mind if you're in a hurry. Stumbled into this place during a pop-up event, a vendor was selling Filipino anime shirts which was already a vibe, and even though it was pretty busy, we got a table surprisingly quickly. For drinks, I went with the coffee milk tea. The flavor was solid and tasted exactly like it should, but even after adding an extra shot it wasn't quite hitting the caffeine level I needed. If you're sensitive to caffeine or need a real kick, maybe opt for something stronger! The real highlight though was the ube pastries. We ordered a bunch and honestly every single one was delicious! They were soft, flavorful, and very much worth it. Those alone are reason enough to come back. Overall a really enjoyable visit and a great find. The pop-up element made it feel even more special. Went to try the upside-down halo-halo--an ube base with red and green coconut jellies (nata de coco), and jackfruit, topped with vanilla ice cream, corn flakes, and flan. It was as sweet as can be. I was hoping for more variety in the ingredients, like beans or additional fruits such as coconut, but that's just me. Having only the jellies and jackfruit at the bottom felt a bit lacking. They had run out of boba when I went; however, even if it were available, it would have just added another chewy element, which the jellies already provide. I did like the corn flakes--they added texture and served as a nice substitute for the traditional toasted/pounded rice grains (pinipig) found in authentic halo-halo. Service is slow--expect a 20-30 minute wait. The space is tight, so they may want to reconsider the layout. Even with just a few people in line, there isn't enough room to move around, and you have to squeeze through a narrow path to get to the pickup area. There's also a small table blocking that pathway where they display the ube crinkles. If possible, setting up an outdoor kiosk for ordering could help. Visited a Cafe 86 at another location so thought we'd give this one a try. Indoor tables were all taken, but there was one outdoor table we were able to snag. We saw practically everyone order the Halo Halo, so parents wanted to give it a try. They went with the upside down one. Enough for both of them to share. Mom liked all the chewies on the bottom. Dad liked the rest of it. Kiddo order the Ube Milk Tea - he noted it was a bit too sweet for him. He's had the Ube Monster before and noted he preferred that one. I'm actually not an ube lover, I don't even eat it, which is rare for a Filipino! But Cafe 86 is still one of my favorite local spots in Daly City. My go-to is the Nutella Blended Latte, it's delicious. My son always gets the Halo Halo, and it's a total hit with him. Just a heads up: the orders can take a very long time to make. Glad it's located in a shopping center with free parking. The wall art is incredible! However, I was less than satisfied with the speed and taste of my drink. The line to order took a long time as they only had one touch screen self service station and each customer took a long time ordering. The beverages and desserts also take a long time to assemble as you can imagine there are many different ingredients in their signature halo halo drinks which most people order. I was in the mood for a boba drink and decided to get their sea salt jasmine milk tea with boba. I was surprised that boba topping is now $1.05! The jasmine milk tea was good but the sea salt cream top was slightly too salty for my liking. The boba balls are also bland and not chewy. Long time fan of Cafe 86 and I've waited years for this location to open up. The grand opening was lively and the wait was long since tons of people showed up to support them. Ube Truffle ($4.50) - This. I don't know any other place that sells it. Delicious truffle coated with crushed oreo. Soo addicting. Take my money. The Ube Leche Flan Cupcake is also a must. This cafe is located next to Seafood City in a plaza that looks newly renovated. Parking was not an issue at all. I came here a little before 3pm on a Saturday. I ordered on the tablet and got an iced Nutella Latte with less sweetness. I waited about 30 minutes for my drink. I saw about 3-4 staff members working behind the counter, and it seemed like a lot of people ordered Halo Halo, which I assume takes more time and effort to make. Therefore, I understand the wait time but it's just something to note. The Halo Halo did look really good though, so I would love to try that next time. The Nutella Latte was delicious. It's our first time here, we weren't even sure if they were open because it looked dark on the outside. Surprisingly, they weren't busy either. The person who helped me was super nice and took the time to explain to me the popular and favorite items. We tried: 1. Turon pop tart: It tasted like a turon and the pastry itself was nice and crisp. The filling was a little too sweet for me. 2. Ube butter bar: My family really liked this, in the sense that it tasted like traditional ube. It was light and not too sweet. 3. Ube leche flan cupcake: Ube cupcake was moist and flavorful. The leche flan on top was perfectly done. 4. Ube crack cheesecake : I can see how it got it's name. You literally can't just take one bite. You gotta keep going until it's all gone. 5. Jasmile calamansi: I liked that this tasted like the real deal calamansi. No artifical flavors or overly sweet that you lose the tartness of the calamansi. Cafe 86 is quickly becoming a go-to and it's always a fun stop when you're craving something sweet. I got the upside down halo-halo (I asked for no boba), and honestly I prefer this over their regular halo-halo. It's creamy, refreshing, chewy, and crunchy basically all the right textures and a great treat for a hot day like today. That said, I do wish they'd add red bean, caramelized saba, and pinipig. Adding those ingredients would really capture the traditional Filipino halo-halo experience and honestly would be a total game changer. Nice little shop with a pretty good amount of tables and chairs. We were standing outside and were thinking it would be nice if they had benches to enjoy the treats outside as an option. Pricing is a bit on the steep side, but then I think, what isn't expensive nowadays? They're located in St. Francis Square with plenty of parking, which makes it an easy stop. Stopped by Cafe 86 in Daly City recently as it just opened up and it definitely lives up to the hype if you're a fan of ube desserts. First one I went to was in Vegas but now there's one closer to home now! Everything on the menu leans heavily into ube, which I personally like because it gives the place its own identity. The desserts are rich, flavorful, and not overly sweet. The ube flan cupcake and upside down halo-halo are probably my favorites. They super creamy with a really good balance of flavor. The spot itself is pretty small and more of a grab-and-go dessert place than somewhere you sit for a long time, but it's clean and has a chill vibe. It's a great place to stop after dinner if you're craving something sweet. Service is at the counter and they also have an iPad to order. Was a little slow when I went cause it was busy and a family of 6 made a huge order ahead of us. Decor is nice and artwork is pretty cool. Overall, I'd definitely come back to try more of the menu. I've tried Cafe 86 in LA so I was excited to see one open up blocks from my house! The location is great with plenty of lot parking. Unfortunately I was really disappointed with the hot Matcha Pandan Latte. For $6.50 there was no matcha OR pandan flavor. Even the milk was disappointing. It tasted like watery hot milk. Skip the lattes. The baked goods were much better! We ordered a flan ube cupcake and an ube tres leche. Both were decent but still could use more ube flavor. Returned to Cafe 86 to get the Milo Milk Tea and was disappointed that it did not have as strong of a Milo flavor. The Cali Mango slush was also not very good - very light mango flavor and it was artificial tasting. It took about 20 min for drinks to come out and it looked like they were training lots of folks. Horrible wait for just 1 Ube Monster and 2 Ube Truffle! I first tried Cafe 86 in Las Vegas, so I was excited to visit when they opened a location near me. Unfortunately, the taste wasn't the same this time around. The ube shake was watery, and to make matters worse, it took 40 minutes to receive my order after already waiting 10 minutes in line just to place it because there was only one kiosk available. While waiting, I overheard a staff member mention they had a large volume of online orders, which explained the delay. However, several customers were frustrated that there didn't seem to be anyone prioritizing in person orders. It might help to have separate staff managing walk in and online orders to keep things moving more efficiently. The space itself is quite small and not ideal for large groups. There are about three tables that seat four people each, plus one high-top table for four. I'll revisit once things are running more smoothly. read more

My wife and I went yesterday right as they opened and enjoyed every minute. Super chill, loved the record player playing Queen's Greatest Hits and loved the whole aesthetic of the place. We have already had their treats so we were prepared to spend what we needed because we think they are worth the price. I also ordered a Cookies and Cream milkshake, which was so good that it didn't survive the ride home! It had a perfect thickness and they give you the boba straws, which made it easier to drink. We were helped by Melinda and although my wife, who isn't the best with technology, ordering from the kiosk, messed up her order a bit with the combos, Melinda still gave us our drinks when she saw the mistake on our end. Cafe 86 has been one of my favorite spots for years, so I'm really happy there's finally a location nearby. I used to drive all the way to Pasadena, LA, and Mountain View just to get it. The ube leche flan cupcakes are my favorite, and I also love the ube monster and calamansi teas. Cafe 86 has been on the radar for quite some time. People rave about the other locations so I had high hopes and expectations for this location. I live very close by so having a dessert cafe that's walking distance is super convenient and I find myself frequenting this place often. One of my gripes is that it opens at 12:00pm but seeing as most of the menu is dessert items I understand. The shop is in the same plaza as seafood city so it's a nice stop to hit up right after eating grill city. The shop itself is fairly small so it can feel a bit cramped and shoulder to shoulder but it's very nicely decorated and has a nice urban aesthetic to it. My favorite is the graffiti styled wall. The few times I've been in there, the music has been on point and definitely has me staying in there a bit longer. As for the food we only ordered two items so far. The Ube tres leches was light, sweet and just so dam good that it had me searching for every little crumb. They have a variety of drinks here: milkshakes, milk teas, iced teas, lattes, and blended lattes. The milkshakes are very delicious and are all blended with Oreo crumbles. My favorite being the Ube monster. The lattes are milkier than I'd like but you can add extra shots of espresso if desired. Overall I think cafe 86 is off to a great start and I hope it stays in the plaza for a long time. read more
