Courtyard cafe entrance

What a hidden gem. And I do mean hidden. I've walked this block of Royal hundreds of times without knowing that the perfect spot for a light lunch, coffee, tea or pastry was tucked away in a peaceful courtyard just behind the front building of the Historic New Orleans Collection, which is worth a visit in its own right. I remember reading that the Carmo folks from Julia Street were opening here, but out of sight, out of mind. While visiting the museum yesterday, I finally took the opportunity to grab a quick lunch. The service was spot on. The Peruvian chicken meat pie with slaw was delicious. Great coffee & tea, too. The smell of hot cinnamon rolls coming from the oven have me wanting to return this morning!

Great cafe located inside of The Historic New Orleans Collection. Dining in the courtyard, friendly employees, good food. I stopped in as I was spending time exploring the collection and I was very happy to not have to go out to find something to eat. I had the white beans with rice, and yellow cake with chocolate icing. Everything was just lovely. I even got a lemon bar to go and the gal working kept it in the refrigerator until I was ready to leave to keep it cool. Great place to eat. And walk around the collection when you are done. You won't regret either choice.

After having some very indulgent meals while visiting New Orleans, I was craving a salad. I'm so glad I found Cafe Cour. I ordered the Habana Salad and added shrimp. They source their ingredients locally, in other words "Farm to Table". The salad was exactly what I needed, fresh and healthy. I was worried the habanero vinaigrette might be too spicy, but it had just the right amount of heat and I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of shrimp. After enjoying a healthy lunch outside in the courtyard of The New Orleans Collection, I couldn't resist the delicious looking baked goods. I ordered the Chocolate Chicory Cookie. It was delicious, the chocolate chips were still slightly melted. Before leaving I visited the galleries on the 3rd floor of the New Orleans Collection. They have free admission!

Cafe Cour is the best kept secret in the Quarter. Their food is consistently excellent, and it's QUIET in the THNOC courtyard.

Guys, it was THE BEST CHICKEN SANDWICH I'D EVER HAD. It was lava hot, juicy, and greasy. It was also absolutely delicious. I was concerned that the thigh meat was going to taste different. But I could not tell. The fries were crinkle cut, but were seasoned well. Didn't even need ketchup for them. The place is very clean and they had 80s music playing in the background, my favorite decade of music. Not surprising, being an 80s kid. The damage all told, including a tip, was $25. Is it expensive? Yes. Is the quality and quantity of the food commensurate to the price? Also yes. Is it worth the hype? ABSOLUTELY YES. I was also informed there's a Hammond location. I will definitely bring my family there, as it's closer, to try them out as well.

It is off Veterans Blvd. It is on the right side as you are driving east. Please be on the lookout. Otherwise, you might pass it by. Tends to spring up and drive by. We almost missed it. This is a fantastic location! Kinda tight and almost missed it. Parking is very limited. If you get discouraged you cannot find a good parking spot. I believe you may park on back street? Do not hold me to that. Worst case, you can always get your order to go. It was our first time. We were curious about and not many restaurants offer fresh made pork cracklings. Usually you have to buy it at a local market or know someone. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They briefly went over a few recommendations. We started with of course, order of adobo fresh pork cracklings. Boneless chicken thigh, Yuzu aioli, slaw, housemade pickle. (Mild) I was curious about the Phuket Sauce. So I got an order too. This tastes great! Not spicy at all. Do not let the pepper fool you. It has a little kick but not spicy at all. All are well seasoned. Few of them you can choose your spice level. We all washed down with fountain drinks. They do offer catering services and possibly call ahead ordering. Please reach out to them for options. If you are in the mood for something different but great food. Give them a try if in the area.

We came in Saturday night without a reservation and only had to wait a few minutes. Our waitress was amazing from the second we sat down. I really wish I remembered her name because she was super attentive, funny, patient, and honestly made the whole experience even better. My boyfriend and I started with the Creole oysters and OMG... probably some of the best oysters I've ever had. They were incredibly flavorful, and dipping the bread into all that sauce afterward was SO good. My mother-in-law had the fried calamari, which came with remoulade, and she really enjoyed it. For my entrée, I had the jambalaya with chicken and andouille sausage. It was definitely spicy, but really, really good. My boyfriend and mother-in-law both had the grilled red snapper topped with their creamy crawfish sauce, and they loved it. My father-in-law had one of the oyster specials with shrimp and crawfish, which was also excellent. We finished with dessert... boyfriend and I had a chocolate mousse/cake dessert and my in-laws had the bread pudding. Everything was delicious. The atmosphere was casual and fun, they had the football games playing on the TVs, and our waitress was fantastic the entire night. Just an overall great experience. If you love seafood and oysters, definitely give this place a try. I would 100% come back!

Though pop-up showers were still lingering, my husband and I decided to take a gamble on courtyard dining--and I am so glad we did! Sheltered under the green umbrellas surrounded by historic brick walls, lush greenery, and rain-kissed citrus trees, the atmosphere was incredibly romantic and peaceful. The courtyard's intimate layout even brought a bit of extra magic to our evening. We sat near another wonderful couple (and their adorable daughter) and became fast friends, sharing laughs and conversation throughout the night. What truly anchored the experience, though, was the incredible service. The staff was remarkably personable, helpful, and welcoming. The dinner itself was excellent from start to finish, showcasing immense culinary skill across every dish. We started with the delicious brussels sprouts and a uniquely seasoned spring/summer gumbo that was unlike any version we've had before (oh, what I would give for the recipe). As for the entrées, the shrimp and grits were phenomenal, and the blackened catfish sandwich with a fresh salad was executed flawlessly...and the bread pudding was fantastic, too! It is rare to find an experience where top-tier hospitality, a breathtaking environment, and great food come together so (seemingly) effortlessly. Café Amélie is an absolute must-visit! The host was extremely welcoming and friendly. Our server and helpers were over quickly to drop off waters and greet us. I ended up ordered the salmon. With it being so early and only one or 2 other tables besides my friend and me, the food did take longer to come out than I expected it to. Both of us did thoroughly enjoy what we got. The salmon was crispy on the outside with a nice sauce over it. We thought we'd have time to get dessert so we ordered a couple but that too took a very long time. We finally waved down our server to cancel and get the check since we had to be somewhere and he apologized and said their WiFi was going in and out so it could be that it was registering on the kitchen side. That may have explained why our entrees took too long. If it wasn't for the service and the food being great - I would not be thrilled about timing. We got there around 5:30p and had to leave by 7:15p so an almost 2 hours experience that probably could have been 1 hour.

My first side was the mac and cheese, which was just the right size, served in a small metal side bowl, with a great cheesy flavor. The second side was cabbage, recommended to me by my waiter. it was broiled up in a savoury consommé liquid that just gave it all sorts of flavor. The third side was candied yams, that were done to perfection with a sweet brown sugar undertone. To drink, I had the freshly squeezed lemonade made on site. With all the rest of the foods, it was a perfect compliment to an amazing meal! I got there around 11:30 AM, and was quickly shown to a table. I think I just beat the lunch rush as there was a lineup out the door by the time I left. However, the waiter never made me feel rushed, provided excellent insights into the food, and was extremely laid back and friendly. The atmosphere was very much a laid-back casual dining experience. with tasteful decor, nice high ceilings and a few TVs quietly playing some sports highlights. The food is consistently good, which is why I keep coming back. They're almost always busy, so I definitely recommend putting your name on the waitlist as soon as possible because the wait can get pretty long. My biggest complaint, though, is the service. Unfortunately, it's been an issue pretty much every time I've visited. The servers often seem a little disengaged, forget things we ask for, and take a long time to bring out food or other items. During my most recent visit, the table next to us had their food brought out before we had even placed our order, even though we had been seated first. It honestly felt like our server had forgotten about us completely. We shouldn't have to keep trying to get someone's attention just to place an order or get the things we need. I understand that restaurants get busy, but there's a difference between being busy and making your customers feel overlooked. It's frustrating because the food is genuinely so good, and the service doesn't match the quality of the experience. Overall, I still love this place and will probably keep coming back because the food is that good! I just really wish the service were more attentive, organized, and welcoming. With better service, this place would be even harder to beat.

The green peppers were definitely spicier than I expected, so I ended up picking most of them out, but everything else was really flavorful. The portions are on the smaller side considering the price, so I'd keep that in mind when ordering. That said, the crispy Brussels sprouts absolutely live up to the reputation -- definitely one of the highlights! Service was another strong point. Everyone was attentive and friendly, and they checked in periodically without being overbearing.
