Serving up all the southern staples with love and smiles. Chicken, ribs, pork chops, greens, Mac and cheese, cabbage, cornbread, cobblers, cakes and lots more. This is cash only and if you are in a hurry please take your disrespect and impatience somewhere else. The staff is welcoming, kind and patient. I am not religious but it was nostalgic and amazing to be able to visit and enjoy the food at this wonderful place.

It's been years since I last visited but I only remembered God things and that made my mouth water even more. I immediately knew what I wanted. Fried wings, mac & cheese, and rice and gravy. My dad and sister ordered greens, and I already knew I would be getting a taste of those too. Now... here is where things shifted a bit. All of the meat was dry. Like it had been sitting for hours, dry. And not just my plate--errybody's. LOLOL I had wings, my father had whiting, and my sister had baked chicken, and somehow all of it came out dry and I ain't even joking. Even the cornbread was dry and I love some cornbread. But the sides? Completely different story. Y'all that mac & cheese, rice and gravy, and greens was AMAZING!! So you already know I am going back, I just know what to get.

This café has just about anything you would want from salads to sushi to pizza to hamburgers. The pizza caught my eye and we were in a hurry so I thought I would give it a try. There were about four different types of pizza to choose from and I chose the veggie pizza maintaining my healthy eating outlook. Unfortunately, the pizza was not that good. There were plenty of vegetables, but the variety was quite limited. There were only three different types of vegetables on it, one of them being onions, which I don't like. There was a lot of cheese and the pizza was on the soggy side. The crust was average.

Anyway, it's a cafeteria, and as far as cafeterias go, it's a pretty good one. There's a lot of selection. There's a lot of turnover because for some people, this is the only thing that they can find time to buy and eat. Depending on what time of the day you're here, some of the prepared foods might be a little dried out. But again, if you're going here on a regular basis, you probably know how things work.

I may not have had the biggest variety of food here, but I have been enough to give a fair opinion. When you go inside the main entrance of the Nat Geo museum, continue straight past the elevators and through the courtyard, you'll arrive at the cafeteria on the other side to the left! They offer a variety of tacos, burgers, sandwiches, soups, salads, and other items! My personal favorite is the falafel burger with sweet potato fries, if they haven't run out. This burger is a thick chickpea patty that is topped with pickled red onions, tzatziki and freshly sliced avocado (not just one slice, there's usually three or four). Places are usually stingy when it comes to avocados, so this makes me so happy! The availability of the fries is hit or miss, since the place closes at 2:00 and I usually don't get there until 1:30. They also have some snacks, drinks, plenty of condiments, and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The cooks and cashiers are all friendly, and the discount that comes with working nearby really comes in handy! I am looking forward to coming back many times and trying some more food out.

Their food is okay and freshness is somewhat questionable. However, the food is relatively cheap. You can either get food by the pound or order from the sandwich line. They also have daily specials, which you can look up online. Does the cheap price compensate for the food? Maybe. However, I am not planning on returning for lunch anytime soon. I would only recommend this cafe to people who work super close by and looking for a place to eat solely based on convenience.

I went for the salad bar. It boasted tons of great toppings including tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, hearts of palm, croutons, fruit and bunch of different pasta salads. My salad was huge and hearty and I devoured it. They also had a really nice selection of fresh fruit. My friend went for the hot food bar, and he too devoured his chicken, rice, macaroni and cheese, and corn. He's a big eater and he was certainly satisfied. The food may have been sitting under heat lamps for god knows how long, but it didn't taste dry at all. Oh to the desserts! They have a frozen yogurt machine and tons of pastries and brownies. Everything was delicious. I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the neighborhood. It's WAY better than your typical cafeteria food and you get to eat (or at least stand in line) with some of DC's smartest people.

It's open to the public and has one of the best salad bars in D.C. and daily soup offerings that are anything but typical institutional fare. Turkey and white bean chili is especially good. They also offer hot dishes--usually a meat entree and several sides and a pizza of the day that is usually worth consideration. If you work in DuPont and feel uninspired by Baja Fresh, Cosi, etc I strongly recommend that you give Brookings a shot.
