Cachapa (l) and patacon (r)
Janet H.

Alex and I have a record of eating at mediocre places. Add this one to that list. We ordered the chicken empanada, shredded beef cachapa and chicken patacon. No matter how much I drowned them in their "special sauce" and mayo ketchup, the meats were dry. The bottom of my patacon was soggy. The dried side didn't taste fresh, as if it's been sitting out there for awhile that it was missing the crunch I yearn for. Lemonade tasted like sour-sugar water. The restaurant is super tiny, about 350 sq ft if I eyeball it. I wouldn't suggest eating in. More like a take out spot. The wall has a countertop with 4 bar stools. With the heavy rain outside and no other customers there, we decided to "dine in." Alex had a great view of snot hanging off the wall in front of his cachapa. Again, I wouldn't suggest dining in. So what are the pros? 1. The Dominican lady at the encounter was super sweet and gave us prompt service. 2. Huge portions + cheap price 3. Delivery is available via Uber eats

This place was ok. Better than what you would expect around this are, but some of the food is either saturated with sauce or really oily. Their sauces are really good. The passion fruit juice was as most reviews said, not over sweetened. I was glad I tried it, but I've definitely have had better.

I wanted cachapas but didn't want to head all the way to the heights for it. I checked on yelp and found this place. Now the last place I had a cachapa from was from the Arepa Factory which was really good but now pales in comparison to this place. Not that it isn't still good but this place blows it out of the water. A cachapa is a Venezuelan Sandwich that is made with a sweet corn cake. The other place I went to made the Cachapa out of the arepa which I am sure can be done too. The sandwich is filled with meat, vegetables and a special sauce. The price ranges from place to place. Here, mine cost me $9 which I originally thought was going to be too much. Boy was I wrong. I also got me a Chinola (Passion Fruit) Juice for $3. The service was very quick. I liked being able to see them put my meal together. I saw them prep the Cachapa, put the cheese, the chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, and their sauces. The gentleman behind the counter was kind enough to bring my food over to me at my table. I had no idea what to expect because it looked nothing like the one I had before. The chicken meat was tender. It was shredded and full of flavor. Underneath it was a blanket of mozzarella cheese. Then came the toppings I mentioned above. The special sauces took this sandwich to another level. One sauce tasted like a ketchup mayo which is common in spanish cuisine. The other was a creamy chimichurri type of sauce that I absolutely loved! It was herby and garlicky without being too overpowering. The cachapa itself was big enough for 2 people to eat but I was hungry...$12 was actually reasonable. I have a full video on my blog. You check it out there. Otherwise, go visit this place.

Lol got a gift of chicken empanadas as first timer customers. Owners are friendly and service is super nice. Definitely been craving patacon for forever + looking forward to ordering delivery at my office in the Hub :) Ordered a patacon with pulled pork + everything already bathing in this sauceeeeeeeeeee. Be brave and try the hot sauce. Also, was on a roll and ordered a cachapa with chicken. Just, just eat here. Come before Insider Food finds this place!

I frequent this area so much and didn't know this place existed until last week. I ordered a chicken cachapa and chinola online for pickup since I was meeting a friend nearby. I arrived within 10 min and the owner, I assume, said the online order will be a few more minutes. After about 10 min he hands me a bag but wasn't mine so I deducted a star. I should have specified more than just saying ordered online but he could have asked which pickup order, since he had more than 1. The food and drink were so good that I have to look past that little hiccup since I got my food a few minutes, 10-15 but I didn't have to be anywhere for another 2 hrs, and he gave my friends and I a sample of chicken empanada while we waited too. The chicken empanada was small for $1.50 but very tasty. I'm used to getting the crunchy Domican empanadas from delis that are big enough to be a real snack. The cachapa was not only delicious but actually contained different flavors and was satisfying. I haven't gone to another Venezuelan restaurant to know the pricing difference but I will be sure to try. This cuisine is now on my list thanks to this place.

Monday cravings anyone?

This is a super small place with 1 table and a wall shelf with 2 barstools. But don't let that fool you. The food is authentic, fresh, and made to order. We were lucky to grab the table to eat. We munched on an empanada and a cheese stick while were waiting for the main courses. I had the Cachapa which is a sweet corn cake filled with lettuce, tomato, and a creamy garlic sauce. I opted for the grilled chicken version. Each bite is the perfect balance of sweet and savory. My fiancé decided on the Yaroa. This is a dish smothered in different sauces, and melted cheese over mashed plantains. My fiancé got the shredded chicken for this dish. He enjoyed it, but I wasn't crazy about it. I think the plantains needed more flavor. It just seemed too mushy to me. It needed more texture. There is an option to switch out the plantains for fries and I think that would make all the difference because that garlic sauce is sooooooo good! This place is opened late for some great late night eats. Definitely a place to check out, whether you want an all natural shake or juice, or just some food. If it's busy just take it to go!

I am in luck to find this place so close to home . Usually I have to go all the way to the height and fight cross bronx traffic but this is a block and a half away the food here is delicious and fresh . Everyone who works here is friendly and inviting . The owner let us sample some empanaditas with his special garlic sauce . Great new place to eat in the BX try it out , thank me later

Reasonable prices.

Food & Favorites: I mainly come for the empanadas, which have a nice variety of flavors, from classic to more experimental options, all of which are still really good. Overall Experience: A great spot with delicious food and a relaxed atmosphere, making it a go-to place for a satisfying meal.

The blackberry margarita was outstanding. Almost had a hint of a michelada to it. We ordered the platano relleno. Definitely order that. Again the best one I've ever had. Sweet, fresh and the juxtaposition of seasoning to meat and cheese and plantsin was beyond delicious. They also have good Columbian sodas. The apple and cola weren't overly sweet. The pork chicharon ceviche was again the best I've ever tasted. The chicharon here is impeccable. The onions weren't soggy and weren't potent. The blended well with the citrus and chicharon. The bandeja paisa was outstanding. Every protein was cooked perfectly. We ordered steaks that were juicy. The veggies amazing. The cgar grilled tasted yes. Theres an onion and tomato side I could eat plates with the rice. Thats how good it was. The guava and apple empanadas were like fall in the mouth. Well be back. Everything else was phenomenal too. Mango, chicken. Xoxo.

This was DoorDash, so keep this in mind. Delivery took FOREVER, so that could have affected the food. Also, I was working, so I was intermittently trying to stuff my mouth while completing documentation, meetings, and other tasks. I got several types of empanadas. Shredded chicken, cheese, shredded beef, pollo. My pollo mechado (chicken and cheese) and carne mechada/queso (shredded beef and cheese) were cancelled, as they were out of stock. I also got the club house pollo, which was disappointing, but that might have been affected by the fact it was delivered rather than consumed in-house. Made with grilled chicken, egg, bacon, cheese, ham, and accompanied by French fries, the sandwich fell flat for me. Pretty sure it would have been better hot and fresh, so I wouldn't deter anyone from trying it. But it could have used some seasoning. People rave about this Venezuelan place, so by all means try it . . . they have breakfast platters and sandwiches (mostly various combos of bacon, egg, cheese, ham), arepas, Venezuelan hotdogs. Other hot sandwiches like the Cubano and Philly cheese steak (but let's be honest--your corner bodega is better). Multiple types of burritos and other Venezuelan fast foods. Again . . . please try this place, especially in person. My food was delivered and took a long time, which again, isn't optimal. I'm not a fan of corn casings, which is a preference thing and a *redacted word that rhymes with bingo* thing, I am so embarrassed I can't make myself love corn tortillas and empanadas. And the mood was off, I was working. The empanadas, regardless taking so long, were delivered HOT! From what I read, the brick and mortar restaurant is clean, calm, and enjoyable, and they have a huge variety of Venezuelan dishes. Don't listen to me, and give it a try yourself, especially in person, not by delivery!

Two busses later, I found myself on the corner of 202nd and 10th....looking for the Patacon Pisao Truck. I got a little worried at first because I was expecting an actual truck parked outside in the middle of the street. No not at all. It was hidden but there was signage and a door. Their set up was so cute because it looked like a store front and it was still a food truck. I get to the actual spot and snapped a few pics. Thankfully I went early enough and there was no line. Maybe about 2 or 3 people placing their orders and that is about it. I placed my order and went with the grilled chicken patacon and a chicken empanada. I'll start with the chicken pastelito(fried round crispy patties). I was blown away by how huge it was because I am Puerto Rican and ours are half the size (then again, these are Venezuelan). Not only was it huge but it was so heavy. It was filled with chicken and mashed potatoes....I've made something similar but it paled in comparison to this. It was full of flavor, not greasy, and jam packed. I munched on it while I waited for my order (I was planning on taking it home to eat). The sauce they served on the side complimented the pastelito perfectly because it was similar to the ketchup mayo and garlic aoli I make at home but it had some spiciness to it which I LOVED. On to the actual patacon. Years ago, an old friend of mine mentioned patacon to me and I swore she was absolutely crazy especially once she explained what it was...tostones...but giant monster sandwich sized tostones with meat, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes in between...a sandwich. I digress. They had several different types to choose from but I kept it simple since it was my first time and went with their original grilled chicken patacon. It consisted of the grilled chicken, queso frito (fried white cheese), green leaf lettuce, tomatoes, ketchup, and wasakaka sauce. I didnt sit down to eat it until I got home and I am so glad I did. This was delicious. I never thought something with simple ingredients could come together deliciously. It didnt get soggy. The meat was tender and the fried cheese was the greatest touch. I ordered 2 patacones, 1 pastelito, and a bottle of water. It came out to $19 which I think is totally reasonable. This place gets 6 out of 5 bites from me. I will definitely be returning soon to try other items on their menu.

Trust me-- every single bite will leave you in food heaven! For our meals, we ordered two of their Build Your Own "Large Size" meals, which comes with two proteins and two large sides. See below for all the details! MEAL ONE: I ordered the salmon and stewed pork chops for my mains and the mac & cheese and rice & beans for my sides, and I must say it was yummy all around. Seriously, I'm not kidding when I say everything was mind blowing! That mac & cheese -- wow, it is 'slap your mama' good.... and probably the most butter I've eaten all year but worth every bite. Likewise, the salmon was out-of-control good! As for the beans & rice and pork chops, they were tasty as well and rounded out the meal nicely. MEAL TWO: Tony had the fried chicken fingers, creamy garlic chicken, French fries, and rice & beans. He loved every bite as well and, after I begged him a few times, reluctantly let me taste a few bites. So I can also attest his choices were yummy all around, too. The only other thing we ordered was a dessert of Dulce Du Leche to share. There are no words. (Note I quickly downed the entire thing and only let Ton have one little bite.) Trust me: Order this, and you will also inhale it. Final thoughts: We DEF be ordering from Stizzy again... and again... but maybe not too often b/c eating too much of this amazing food could lead to Type 2 Diabetes if not eaten sparingly. Oh, and next time, we'll be picking up our meals to save the extra cash charged by food delivery services.
