I would say this is the best beer store in NJ but it's not actually in NJ. It's about 10 minutes from the border of NJ and NY up the Palisades Parkway. It beats every beer store in NJ for 1 reason... selection. These guys somehow consistently get the rarest beers year after year. I'm talking Founders KBS, Firestone Walker Velvet Merkin, Goose Island Bourbon County Coffee Stout, etc. They have been into the craft beer scene since the beginning of craft beer and thus have special relationships with the distributors. As for the store, it's small, super tight, super packed, and not for the claustrophobic. There are aisles upon aisles of beer, refrigerated beers line the back wall, the side wall has cases of beer stacked on top of each other, in the back there are a selection of rotating taps of draught beer to fill your growlers. The guys are really knowledgeable and friendly. Tell them what style you like and they'll give you suggestions. When super rare beers come in, to be fair and give everyone a chance, they hold lotteries, with the winners getting the right to buy a bottle of the particular beer. So if you live in northern jersey, it's definitely worth the hike to hit up this store. You won't be disappointed. read more

I came here for affordable beers and I must say I don't think I will come here again. So I bought Sam Adams Octoberfest and it came out to be 22 bucks, I thought to myself it was a bit steep for 12 bottles and knowing that it is a seasonal beer. So I decided to go to shop rite and find the same beer for 6 bucks cheaper. Come on I get it you want to make an extra buck or two but be reasonable. If a beer is available on a shelf in NYC metro area, Cable will get it. They have the best growler selection and prices in the area. You'll be hard pressed to find a beer store with a better selection. So why only 3 stars? The space is way too small for what they are doing. Super cramped and hard to browse. There is barely any organization. They also keep minimal track of their inventory. All they do is keep track of what comes in and never what goes out. These guys are using a inventory system that worked before craft beer was a thing and it just doesn't work now with so many different beers available. Hey guys, it's not the '80s anymore, time to update your inventory and POS system. Put some money into your business. Cable is where IPAs go to die. They are notorious for old beer. Make sure you check dates on beers. Your best bet is to check Facebook for when they get delivery and make sure you get the fresh stuff. They have cases and cases of old IPAs, especially the Ballast Point stuff. read more

Very good selection of craft beer in a cramped setting. More of a true negative is the rather warm temperature inside the store. So, when you find a great beer on the shelf, say a barleywine or imperial stout that is 2 years old, I venture that it might be "bad" due to being in such a warm environment. It would be awesome if they had some more space, it was a bit cleaner and they installed central air conditioning. Would go back for newer beer & maybe a growler fill, they had some good options including Boat from Carton out of NJ. read more

If you're really into craft beer like myself, this place is pretty much heaven. From Route 304 you would never expect, by location and appearance, that this place would contain so many gems. Upon walking in you're immediately overwhelmed with high shelves and boxes STUFFED with a million different bottles of beer. You could spend a good hour in this place continuously discovering beers. They have any style you can imagine from plain old pilsners to saisons and barleywines. I'm particularly impressed with their selection of stouts and porters, which are my favorite styles of beer. They even have Southern Tiers Creme Brulee which is almost impossible to find in January as they are only released once a year in February. While most bottles are room temperature they do have a few fridges with singles, 6 packs and variety packs. Since there are so many beers they are not very organized but to me that's not an issue. If you're looking for something specific just ask one of the very helpful and friendly workers and they'll help you find it. Another thing I love about Cable Beverages is you can fill your Growlers here! If you don't have your own growler they offer 3 sizes to buy: 16 oz, 32 oz, or 64 oz. They're always rotating their selection of beers on tap so be sure to check out their Facebook page and see what they currently have! This place is great. They have a lot of unusual stuff, plus five rotating taps so you can fill your growlers. The staff is knowledgable and helpful, and if you become a regular, they get to know your tastes, will let you know when stuff you might like has come in, and might even help you get a brew you're searching for if they don't already have it in stock. Good: They have a ton of selection Bad: Some of the beer is skunked. I can say this for two reasons. 1. The beer I bought on saturday was skunked. 2. They have seasonal ales (such as Brooklyn Summer and Sam Summer from 3 seasons ago). Octoberfest was also stocked up. Great beer store!!! A great selection ranging from your Coors and Budweiser to rare craft beer. Small place, but they have a lot of hard to find craft beer. My suggestion is to ask. The staff there knows their stuff. If you don't see something on the shelf, just ask. They have some the rarer beers, such as Dogfish Head 120 Min IPA, up front. Cable Beverages is like that book shop in Harry Potter, stacked to the gills with more than your senses can handle. I can't get out of there in less than 20 minutes EVER. There is a pattern to their organization, but if I tell you then you'll find some of my hidden caches. The fellas that run the joint are awesome! Whether you are a first timer or a regular like me, you get the amount of attention that you want. They don't hover, but are there to answer any questions you've got. My family has been getting their beer from cable beverages since the 80's when they were located a little north on route 304. They provide excellent service at a fair prices. But there's no better place to go for good beer. The owners know everything and can help you find whatever your heart desires. Really great place! The selection is impressive and ever changing. I love mixing up a six pack with a bunch of beers I have never tried. They also take bottles back for recycling which is really convenient. Drop off some, buy some more! One of the best beer store I have been to. Downside is there is little room place is cramped as hell! But nice staff will sort through cases and get you what you need. Claustrophobics Beware! This store is packed to the max with beer, beer, and more beer. I've never felt fatter than I already am, until walking through this fine establishment. The owners of Cable Beverage have a profound respect for beer and their customers. One could, as I have, walk through this store for an hour and still not realize some of the gems they have tucked away on a shelf somewhere. The owners will often put out beers that they have aged for 3 plus years for a lucky customer to discover, and the best part is, they do not jack up the price at all like many other beer and liquor shops. You want a Dogfish Burton Baton from 2011? Well, it's the same price as one from 2015. This place is great. Every fan of beer should treat themselves to a visit at least once. I was looking for large quantities of beer at reasonable prices. The grocery stores in the area had neither reasonable prices or large quantities, so I asked around and a friend recommended this place to me. When you walk in (entrance is in the back), it is initially very overwhelming with the packed shelves and towers of boxes. But the selection is great. I could probably spend hours looking at all the different types. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, helped me carry out the beer to my car. Holy Moly! What a hidden gem! An amazing collection of hard to find beers and cheap growler fills (they gave me $2 off for no particular reason I was aware of). They are reasonably priced, especially compared to Growler and Gill. Also unlike Growler and Gill, they have normal business hours, which is how I discovered them in the first place (take note, Growler and Gill) . I will be going back soon. Very soon. read more

Very crowded tight space was hoping to get sip of sunshine he claims he gets a lot of it but he didn't have it on hand tried to check out if he had softly spoken magic spells DIPA no luck tried to ask a associate for help he could barely speak English and didn't understand what I was trying to tell him very shady place felt highly profiled walking into this establishment as I am in bardonia I went to high school down the street heard rumors he has grimm but very stingy and picky about who can buy One can he has a lot of outdated beer and I'm talking years old but he tries to convince otherwise its fresh I will be coming back to see if he has new beer now that's not a year old (I bought Mexican cake from 2016 from Westbrook) I would expect so much higher expectations from a place that been in over rockland for over 40 years he'll be able to get away selling expired old beers to new people getting into craft but he can't fool me I'd rather go to ambulance in nanuet or defiant or hillcrest beverage much fair prices and a more nice and helpful staff read more
