I was given a gift card to the Divine Bar in Sparkill for my birthday last summer. I called a couple of weeks later to make a reservation and was told they were temporarily closed for renovations but would reopen soon. When it reopened, it was called temporarily Cantina. I went in there with my gift card and was told that it was under new ownership but that the previous owner, Joe, still owned the wine store next door and would honor the gift card there. It was closed for the night. I finally got around to calling them to see if they would indeed honor the gift card and was told that although Joe is the same guy that issued the gift card and took my friends' money, they could not honor it because it was "a different corporation". I have been searching for a particular cream liqueur and maple bourbon for the past two years that is produced in Vermont that is not sold in Virginia. After a bit of research...I was told that Grape D'Vine sold it. As luck would have it they only had one bottle in stock and it was promised to another customer. After having a delightful conversation with the owner, Joe, he was not only willing to place a special order for me and ship to Virginia he also provided me the contact information of another supplier that had what I was looking for in stock and could ship sooner. Greatest wine shop ever! Joe is the man of his trade and his humor has my boyfriend amused. The tags he writes on the bottles are hilarious! Hand picked quality wines with superb customer service at any budget. This is what makes me come back time and time again. Each order is put under your profile so you have a track record of your wine purchases. The hardest part is to remember which you liked and which you didn't but I don't think I have come across a wine I didn't like yet from Joe. There are case discounts so definitely stock up. This is the best wine shop in the county. I've been here twice now and have bought an excellent bottle of Sake and an Italian Red Wine. The staff is very helpful and just a pleasure to interact with. The owner, Joe, is a great guy and is very personable. The selection of wines is amazing. The store has something for every person and taste. The decor is really cool,everything is out on wooden racks or on the walls and there are these little cards with funny things written on them describing the wine or why you should buy the wine or what you should have it with. What a great little extra to have when you are perusing the shop. Even the other patrons are friendly and want to interact with you. I happened upon this store when it first opened and the owner was super delightful and the so wine fantastic that I simply had to try a few bottles. I later returned to purchase many more bottles of champagne and wine. Sadly, I moved so I only pop in when in the area but it never ceases to amazes me that store only gets better. the owner is still amazingly honest and friendly ! Joe, the owner, really knows his stuff, and has a knack for discovering great wines from all corners of the globe, specializing in a fabulous ever-changing selection for under $20. He's forever opening and pouring a wide range on a daily basis, which allows him to quickly determine each customers taste. We have enjoyed his selections immensely and frequently stop by for a case or more, as he offers a nice discount off of his already reasonable prices for purchases above 12 bottles. His uncanny ability to remember his customers preferences or to immediately respond to a special request is very much appreciated. We also love his sense of humor, and find his hand written wine descriptions to be especially witty and entertaining.
