I've really tried to like this Cabelas. I've been there several times to ask for assistance with fishing, hunting, or firearms and everytime I am disappointed. If you are lucky enough to actually speak with someone and have a question expecting a well informed answer you are in the wrong place. The firearm counter has to be the worst of all. Ignoring customers and giving vague answers seems to be their Forte because customer service certainly is not. read more

Shopped for a pistol. The old guy behind the counter could not tell me anything about the Walther. They had a lock on the trigger and he would not remove it to let me dry fire to test the trigger pull, or test the grip, and he couldn't tell me if it required a special tool to remove the slide. Terrible service. This is not a store for people who are experienced with firearms. This is a store for inexperienced people who don't ask questions. I asked about field stripping, maintenance, cleaning etc and he had no idea. Recommendation - hire staff that are enthusiastic about their job. New firearms buyers are more diverse and female. The staff should be more aligned with the customer and experienced actually using one. I will not be going back. Found the customer service at the Iron Horse Armory and Centennial Gun Club to be excellent. My time is valuable, I want to talk to someone who is knowledgeable and experienced. read more

They will try and tell you if you sign up for their credit card you will receive a 20 coupon you can use that day , after they lure you into signing up for the card , and you try you use your coupon they will lie and tell you "nope you can't use until you get the card " I will be destroying the card when it comes in the mail since the staff can not be honest . read more

I used to love Cabela's, but the customer service at Lone Tree sucks. After being notified that my background check for a Sig pistol was completed and that I could come and pick it up, I went to collect it. At that part of the firearm dept there were two sales staff and one other customer, apart from myself. When I told one of them I was here to collect my Sig, he told me to 'go and get a ticket'. I told him that it's not as if the store is overflowing with frikken customers 9:30 on a Wednesday morning, but he refused to budge, so I ended up leaving without buying the Sig. Hey Cabela's, it's not the frikken DMV, you know. I feel like such an idiot for not having gone to Sportsmans Warehouse in the first place, because they always give friendly advice and great service. Cabela's honored a Black Friday order I placed that was eventually cancelled due to low back stock. Not only did the manager honor the sale price, he also took the manufacturer's rebate value directly off the sale price as well. He applied this very fair deal to an extra gun so I could get one for both me and a family member. I came here to buy a black powder rifle. They had the make and model of the one I wanted, but I needed it in a youth size, which does exist. I waited 20 minutes to talk to someone and was promptly told that he didn't deal with black powder rifles and that I would have to talk to someone in Optics. 'That guy right there,' he said and pointed. I went to talk to that guy right there and was told I'd have to talk to someone behind the counter. He pointed to the guy I was just talking to. I told him I just came from there. He said, 'You can try to order that one from our website online.' I informed him that it was not online and that I wanted to see if they could order it for me. 'Well, we can put in the paperwork, but that doesn't mean it will ever come.' I asked how I would know. 'If you don't hear anything in a few weeks, just give us a call back, and we'll tell you if we can't get it.' I tell him this doesn't sound like a good way to do things. He tells me to go to customer service. By the way, this entire time, he's talking to me in that idiot sing-song voice one talks to a child in. I am used to this when I go into stores to talk about guns. I go to customer service, wait to talk to the person, and am told, 'We can't order anything that isn't on our website.' What sense does that make? If I could have ordered it from your website, I wouldn't be here waiting, being bounced around, and talked to like I'm stupid by everyone in your store. The guy closed up and sent us to a different register. That guy had an invisible customer because he said he was waiting on someone that was not even there. I've been here twice, but I haven't been impressed so far. The first time was before father's day. When I came in, I asked where some things were, and was told to check two places, located at completely different places within the store. My husband started checking out fishing gear. I milled around the fishing area, and not one person offered to help either one of us. We did need help at one point, but we coudn't find anyone to help us and we didn't want to wait around. The second time I went, I had to return some beef jerky making kits. I didn't notice that they had MSG until after I got home. I forgot my receipt, but they were able to look up the transaction using my credit card. When I got my money and receipt for my refund, I noticed that they didn't refund me the tax amount. I'm sure it wouldn't have been much, but it was the principle of the thing. The person who helped me at the service counter was cold and unfriendly. I handed her my card and she couldn't have been bothered to put the card or my receipt in my hand. How rude. In all, I think the prices are too high and the service is too crummy to return. I will spend my money at Bass Pro Shop, since I can actually find someone to help me and they are happy to do it. read more

Went to go buy an expensive (almost $2K) over-under shotgun that my friend recommended to me, and while they had a great selection (the exact gun I wanted actually), the employees did not seem too anxious to help answer my questions/showing me the guns, and rather seemed to enjoy chatting with other customers who were not really there to purchase something, but just were there just 'killing time' & talking stories. Maybe it was because I don't fit the 'look' of a hunter (I was wearing designer jeans and a long sleeve button down shirt), but I left feeling pretty discouraged - and gunless. Management, you might want to remind your employees to help 'everyone' and not just the 'hunter-looking' folks. read more

I am not exactly sure how some are making a comparison between Cabelas and an REI or even a Bass Pro Shop for that matter. If you are only interested in entry level to mid level gear, head to BPS. If you are interested in supporting the Sierra Club, by all means, head to REI. If you are looking for all levels of gear, guns, and ammunition, visit Cabelas - It is always nice to find a store which carries the very high end products. I like Sitka, Kenetrek, and Nosler ammunition, so I shop at Cabelas. I have never had any trouble with customer service or had a number of employees fail to ask if I needed help during my visit. The folks in tan shirts are everywhere (and knowledgable), if they don't approach you, take it upon yourself to ask. They have pretty good sales and if you miss one, they are also good at sending coupons in the mail. I wish the store were a bit larger, especially since big game hunting, hiking, and camping are so popular in Colorado. If you have the opportunity, visit their flagship store in PA, it is huge. Cabelas is and will remain my go-to place for gear. read more

I want to preface by saying that I have had good experiences with this Cabela's in the past, but my latest experience was quite negative. It was a one star experience balanced out by past experiences. I needed to have my brother send my rifle to me from Montana, so, several weeks ago I spoke to someone in person at this Cabela's, as well as someone in the Kalispell store over the phone. They both said the same thing, Cabela's has a $25 ffl transfer fee, and that this would only need to be paid once, and that they would ship the rifle to the lone tree store where I would pay for the background check and pick it up. Awesome! The Kalispell representative even said they'd find an old box to ship it in! So Friday I receive a text from my brother that he took the rifle into Cabela's who said that they were unable to transfer it between stores, and there was nothing else they could do. He had to take it to another gun store who did the ffl transfer plus shipping for $90. Ouch. I was irritated, but cut my losses and accepted the situation. Flash forward to today when I go to pick up my rifle. I track down someone at the gun counter and he finds my rifle, so we start to do the paperwork. "Alright, it will just be the $10 background check fee, because you already paid the transfer fee at the other store" I was told. Alright, sounds good. Then the background check took forever, easily 3 times longer than at The Damage Factory nearby. Getting antsy because I've got stuff to do, I am finally ushered up to the counter. "Oh, I was wrong earlier, you need to pay the $10 fee plus a $50 ffl transfer fee." What the hell!!!! I finally snapped and told them the whole situation, how the other Cabela's had refused to ship the rifle after telling me they would, and how I was assured by both stores plus online that the ffl fee was $25. The worker, who seemed to be s decent guy despite how long it took to complete the background check, spoke briefly with his supervisor and the price was dropped to $25. TLDR Cabela's is a nightmare for ffl transfers and went back on their word about the ability to ship firearms and the price of the transfer. Use the Damage Shop down the road. They waive the fee if you buy $25 worth of stuff, are quicker, more friendly, and generally more competent. PS just a quick update, I also took a used rifle here to sell and was lowballed, I immediately left and took it to Centennial Gun club where they offered me nearly 50% more for my rifle, and were way friendlier. I will be going back to centennial instead of dealing with the Cabelas gun staff again- updated to 2 stars to reflect this further experience. read more

First visit here and to be honest I'm disappointed. It's nothing more than a mini and "not as cool" Bass Pro Shops. I had heard good things about Cabela's -people saying it beats Bass Pro Shops- but I can't seem to see what they are besides location of the building. Bass Pro definitely dropped the ball by not opening a location down in this area. But from what I saw, prices are the same or more, which I attribute to the location of the store. Selection is much smaller than BPS since the store itself is a lot smaller. Fish tanks lack size and diversity compared to BPS and the deli is a weak attempt at having a restaurant like the one in BPS. Overall it just seems like a lame and bad attempt to rip off BPS. Staff was friendly but I don't need to be asked if I need help by every damn employee!!! It's almost as bad as Best Buy and Dicks. Just ask me once and be gone!!! read more

Awful customer service, poor selection, bad store. I went in to buy a gun safe and asked the employee LEANING ON THE SAFE I WANTED for help. He said it wasn't his department and that I needed one of the guys behind the gun counter. One of those three guys helping 50 people look at rifles. I waited for a half hour and left. The store is set up to look really cool. If you want to look at rifles without buying so you can feel tough, it's the place for you. And the toilets were all clogged. Nasty. read more

I am really surprised Cabela's has not opened in the area until now. It's so fitting for Colorado and surrounding states. I have been to the Cabela's in Nebraska, and this is just about the same. Everyone on staff is helpful and knowledgeable. The gear is serious, this is not like going to say a Big 5 to get a sleeping bag. Being serious, it's not cheap. But it's worth it and a total investment. The deli is nice if you need a quick drink or snack. The discount cave is my favorite, you can really score some great deals in there! I wouldn't come here to buy a firearm as they tend to be way overpriced. However, they have good prices on ammunition and always seem to have plenty of it. This Cabelas has a good collection of men's casual clothing and shoes. Also, they are good to stock up for hunting, camping, or hiking in which they have a pretty good range of prices. The staff can go from being very informed about their products to not knowing much at all like the guy at the gun counter was for us, but like I said their prices are too high anyway. All in all a good experience and there is something for they whole family at Cabelas. read more

I was happy to hear they are open as I have gift cards and need fishing equipment. However, they are not practicing precautions for COVID. Few employees wear masks; those that do have them pulled under their chins. Lots of groups of people hanging together, no social distancing. I'm a retiree and it's not worth risking my life in there. This review is for the Santa experience. The kids loved it! It was an easy process, to take a ticket for the photo time and get in line. Santa was friendly and had a great (real) beard! The free photo prints were good quality and printed instantly with a festive display envelope. Cabela's was also running a promotion where Kids Eat Free while Santa was visiting, so that was economical and tasty! We also spent time looking at the large fish aquariums and examining the stuffed wildlife. Great way to spend a Saturday afternoon with the kids! read more

Not so sure about the firearms guys. I bought a Smith and Wesson airweight revolver with rosewood hand grips. It's a very nice looking weapon and that is what drew me to it. Too bad the salesman wasn't polite enough to point out it has "Lady Smith" engraved on the side before selling it to me, a man in his 30's. I know Denver is pretty accepting of 'alternative lifestyles' but I think It would have been just common courtesy to point out that feature. I don't think most salesmen would generally let a man walk out the store riding a woman's bike unless he was sure that's what he wanted and made aware it was a woman's bike - using the same logic why would you let a man leave with a woman's gun without pointing that out and maybe suggesting another item? I guess you can always use another revolver - but it also feels like money foolishly spent - and probably wouldn't have been spent if I had a half decent salesman helping me out. read more

Eventually was directed to customer service and when I asked to order the item the lady's eyes lit up and she responded with "You can't order items in store, you have to do it on your phone or a computer." Finally there is a store in the metro area. By all accounts it's not like a huge super store but it does the trick. The place is will stocked and have a very large selection. If they don't have it in store you can go online and order it to be shipped to the store for free. Now, you see I lot of complaints about service. You all need to keep a few things in mind. #1 the store has only been open a few months you need to give it time to find it's flow. I have net some very good staff members in the and others are sort of clueless. So give it time to work itself out. #2 unless you're insane don't try to go there on a weekend and expect to be treated like a king. If you want a good experience go on a Tuesday or Thursday morning....you'll see what I am talking about. read more

My wife and kid are obsessed with the fudge at this Cabelas. I can't walk into the place without my kid automatically walking over to the cafe area and telling me we need to get fudge. The nature scene with all the animals and the fish tanks are also very fun and really keep my kid happy when shopping there. This is the only store that is also and adventure. It's never just a boring shopping trip. read more

I had a background check denial so I appealed it and it was cleared due to mistaken identity. The Colorado Bureau of Investigations (CBI) sent me a letter clearing me. I recently tried to purchase a new 22 pistol and Joe Lopez won't run my new background check because of a denial from 2015 that was cleared. I called the CBI and they told me to shop somewhere else that will run a new background check. I went to Centennial Gun Club and they ran a new background check that cleared so I was able to make my purchase there. I've been a club member for over 25 years and now I can't shop for firearms at Cabelas so I will no longer shop here and canceled my club card. read more

If you can walk into a Cabela's store and walk out with what you want and don't mind paying a little more then you're good to go. If you order something to be shipped - be prepared for a nightmare. Ordered a Tika rifle from Cabela's web site, to pick up at this store. Web site said it was in stock in the warehouse and would take 3-5 days for it to arrive at the store. I'm now into this 55 days and cannot get a refund on a rifle I've never seen that's never left Cabela's hands. Cabela's policy is they will not refund your money until the object arrives at their store and their store processes a return. It does not matter how long that takes - your money is stuck with them as long as they take. If they ship your item by mule and the mule dies you'll just have to wait until they can breed and train another mule. If the mule arrives and it takes the store clerk a month to process your return - then you'll just have to wait that month too. Summary: Cabelas Promised time 3-5 days Called after 8 days Called again after 14 days (8+14=22 days) Waited three more days to place order with another company, Canceled Cabelas(22+3=25 days) 2 days later rifle arrives at Cabela's for processing (but is already cancelled) (25+2=27 days) Rifle sits at Cabela's waiting for processing for 3 weeks (27+21= 48 days) Cabela's starts processing refund, should take 5-7 days (48+ 5 to 7 = 53 to 55 days) Guy in a North Dakota gas station (I gave up on Cabela's and just ordered one from a guy selling out of a gas station) Shipped same day (0 days) Arrives in two days by UPS ground (2 days) Picked up at FFL dealer same day. If a guy in a North Dakota gas station can give same day service compared to two months and counting with Cabela's with the millions of $ Cabela's has invested in infrastructure - I'm thinking they are doomed. read more

Overall I've been very happy with Cabela's since it opened. Good selection and reasonable prices on most things I've looked at, especially if you watch for the sales. The customer service in most departments has been top notch. I have actually been very surprised on more than one occasion by the knowledge in the fishing department (spin and fly) and in the camping department. Maybe I've gotten lucky but I've worked with multiple people on multiple occasions in both. My one completing would be the firearms department, they seem to be understaffed and the couple of times I've gone in to buy a firearm I haven't been able to get any assistance while the one or two guys working there had customers about 5 deep looking at various items. The one negative experience was in the Gun Room, I was going to buy a collectable rifle and noticed it was marked NFS as were about 1/2 of the other items in the room. I politely asked the gentlemen with a big grey beard (giving description in case you have to deal with him) if NFS stood for Not for Sale and if so were any of the items going to be for sale anytime soon. It took a couple of tries to even get a response from him but his response was something along the lines of 'If it says NFS just assume you can't every buy it' and he walked off and stood on the other side of the room. Not a small feat given that the room in only about 20X20. I spoke with a manager and was able to find out that some were pending sale, some were being transferred to other stores. A simple answer that could have been given without the attitude. If I had only shopped the firearms department my rating would be a 2 star (they've have some good ammo deals) but the fishing and camping departments raised it to 4 star. read more

I was super excited to get pictures with Santa and my kids. I got one pic where I was in the pic and one pic of me and my two boys. When I went to get the picture I was told I could only buy one. This was very disappointing because I wanted to have both. You clearly took lots of pictures I don't understand why I couldn't just buy them all. You would make more money and it's easy to do now with the digital world. Sadly I won't be coming back next year because of this. You should offer a package where you can buy all the digital prints. Unbelievable experience! Total incompetence! Won't answer the phone, will not return an email. Took many calls and almost two weeks to purchase one item! I got charged sales tax and some kind of a Colorado pistol fee then got charged sales tax AGAIN and more fees by the State of Nevada where it was shipped to. I spent more time on the phone with Cabela's Corporate and after scanning receipts and waiting they have refunded me 3.13 (the difference between CO and NV tax) Really ? I am NOT concerned with the difference It's being charged tax TWICE ! So give these people your credit card information and watch the price go up This is taxation without representation, I will be contacting the Federal Trade Commission, the Better Business Bureau and sending a NICE letter to my Congressman. I have spent thousands at Cablea's However this Veteran is done with this company !
