People's Yoga in Monterey Park (near ELAC) exceeds my wildest dreams. This single studio with wooden-floors and plants is homey and yet located on the second floor of a plaza and across from the metro station (Atlantic stop). It's truly a delight - not to mention the one and only Latina-owned yoga studio is the area (if not LA?). My favorite class is "Body Soft" on Thursday nights at 7pm with Diane. This class is for those that want to ease into yoga (a.k.a. Beginners) or those who need to chill from a long work week. But...please don't meditate into sleep. Yes, rarely does snorting ensue. On-site parking is available and the studio provides all the equipment and even water, just bring your own water bottle. Pre-registration is recommended as the studio only accommodates so many people. If the single class price is steep for your budget, check out their packages as they offer a built-in discount. Also, first timers can try out a monthly on a discount. For the yogis or yogis in training, you may be interested in their training program. Personally, I'm not a fan of virtual movement classes because I prefer to be in-person, but for those on a shoe string budget that may an option. Either way, I LOVE People's Yoga! Shout out to Leah and Lauren, co-founders, Latina mama business owners, and yoga instructors. Their dream to open this brick and mortar became a reality years ago and has been going strong for years.

Peoples Yoga was the first and is still one of the only yoga studios in East LA and that something to be proud of. The classes are high quality and professional. They are masters of their craft and you can tell. They have varying levels of difficulty so there is something here for everyone. As a man who thought he was strong enough and needed something pretty advanced I quickly realized I was a beginner lol. Truth is yoga is something that is true core strength combined with mobility. So I felt the challenge! But, the beginner classes are great for people who need a more approachable starting point. I also very much enjoy the meditative and holistic approach to classes. Every class I have attended had some challenge and made you sweat a bit, but also had a calming meditative portion that leaves you feeling centered and in touch with your inner spirit. Overall, I highly recommend this yoga studio. They are a true gem in our community.

Their classes are suitable for all levels. They pay attention to everyone's form, will provide corrections and assistance throughout the class, which helps prevent injuries. The exercises are well instructed and paced, so you never feel rushed, and they offer modification for those who need them. Emma and Sally can speak Mandarin and English which is very helpful for non-English speakers and vice versa. I enjoy every session and always feel great after class. Side note- there is ample parking available and the studio provides mat if you do not have one.

First time trying aerial hoop through ClassPass!…read more I've always wanted to try an Aerial Hoop class and was surprised to find one so close in SGV. I also tried their Mat Pilates class, but prefer the Aerial Hoop class. Both classes I attended had 4 students which made it great for beginners and those interested in learning Aerial Hoop or Mat Pilates. Mat Pilates with Emma was a calm, casual paced class without music that improves concentration in certain muscles of our body. Some stretches and movements are more challenging than you'd think. Aerial Hoop with Stephanie was challenging and really tested my strength and flexibility. The class had 3 hoops, some were higher and some had a thicker bar. The class started off with stretches before we learned aerial moves on the hoop. The other students already had experience, so they practiced more advanced moves. At the end of the class, everyone performed the entire routine we learned along with music. Each student brought out their tripod to film their movements. Another student helped record mine. By the end of the class, I didn't realize I got a blister on my hand until I got home. Time to do more bar exercises after it heals! Some random things to note: The parking lot is convenient and doesn't seem to get busy. Shoes are taken off and stored in the cabinet to the right of the entrance. It's recommended to bring grip socks for all classes. Yoga mats are available, but feel free to bring your own. Both instructors were kind, encouraging, and corrected our form. I enjoyed the smaller classes and would highly recommend, especially for beginners!

At that time, unlimited members were allowed to attend all the classes and many existing members had been using those benefits regularly. After the new owner took over for one month, major policy changes were suddenly announced and enforced with almost no transition period. Annual unlimited members were informed that pole dance classes, and the 2-hour dance class on Tuesday was changed to "pass only," meaning annual members could no longer attend despite already paying for an unlimited membership. The issue is not about adding new classes. The issue is that existing member benefits were reduced after people had already committed and paid for long-term memberships under the previous system. I tried communicating respectfully to find a reasonable solution for existing annual members, but the owner was unwilling to honor previously included class access or provide a fair compromise. I believe businesses have the right to change policies for future members, but changing core benefits for existing prepaid annual members with only a few days' notice feels unfair and misleading. Very disappointed with how this transition was handled.

I've been a long time member of Corepower so I've had my fair share of hot yoga, and it makes me appreciate the way that hot 8 operates - they have multiple types of classes - I tried Strength, Yin, Sculpt, and they're all fantastic. Shout out to the front desk staff - they helped me solve issues with my booking process (my fault) and were so kind/patient when exposing the different classes to me. Oh and shoutout to Allison Chiang - the Strength instructor. She brought the energy and spent time on form correction. So key! Finally - there's free parking with validation in the building! I absolutely love this studio, mainly because in most classes, I LEARN something about my body…read more Paul's classes, especially, offer such depth and understanding of biomechanics. Nothing beats the intelligence of the Iyengar system, imho! I will say that Paul has a unique way of balancing his precise knowledge with a very spacious accommodation, which is TRULY the art of an engaged teacher. However, there are other instructors here (I won't name names) that unfortunately trigger my sympathetic nervous system with their tone, and overuse of the word "should." As much as I try to get past this, my breath and body just become tight, and I don't move as freely with overly managed instruction. Yoga House could be one of the last studios on the Eastside that uphold the integrity of a yogic learning environment. As a yogi of 25 years, and an instructor myself, I recommend the Iyengar classes to anyone working to heal injuries and those who want to deepen their practice. It's not a miracle, but a more serious approach to yoga can be transformative, on many levels.

A True Sanctuary for Mind, Body, and Spirit…read more I can't say enough wonderful things about Pasadena Yoga House! I recently attended the class for people with mobility challenges, led by the incredible Peggy, and it was truly a transformative experience. As someone living with Lupus and Muscular Dystrophy, finding a movement space where I feel safe, seen, and supported has been a long journey. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed--not just by the staff, but by the beautiful community that gathers here. There's a genuine warmth in the room that you can feel, and Peggy's presence and guidance made all the difference. She was patient, attentive, and so compassionate, offering helpful adjustments and making sure each student felt comfortable and included. The studio is clean, calm, and absolutely beautiful. They offer plenty of props to support your practice, and the meditation beginning and at the end of class was the perfect way to wind down and reconnect with myself. It's rare to find a space that honors both your limitations and your potential--but Pasadena Yoga House does just that. If you're looking for a welcoming, inclusive, and healing space to move, breathe, and just be--you've found it. I wholeheartedly recommend this studio to anyone, especially those with mobility challenges or chronic conditions. I left feeling lighter, supported, and truly at home.

Now that I'm healed, I was thinking about going back to Corepower but the algorithm must have seen me browsing yoga studios and an ad for this place popped up on my Instagram for a $36 for 3 classes intro deal. I was a bit weary of my card automatically getting billed for a membership once my three classes ended, so I called the studio and spoke to Kelsey (She's the daytime studio manager I think) who assured me that there's no catch, I can take the three classes for $36 and decide from there if I want to buy a membership or not. She was super friendly and helpful, she asked me what I was looking for and helped recommend me which classes might be good for me. My first class I took Dahhee's mobility class which I enjoyed. While it definitely feels like yoga, it's not a traditional yoga flow class where you're doing chaturangas and sun salutations between each sequence but a mix of yoga, stretching, and strength building. The second class I took was Kyle's slow flow class. This was more similar to classes I've taken in the past at other studios and I really loved that Kyle integrated her playlist with the movement. The studio is also very welcoming, the first class I went to was an evening class and the evening studio manager Karisma greeted me and helped me check in, while the second time I went during the day and Kelsey was there. There's free combination code lockers in the locker room which is really nice, you don't have to bring your own lock. Parking is fairly easy, they don't have their own lot but there's free street parking on their street. Both times I found street parking right on their street, though they also validate meter parking as the free section is limited. You should give yourself some time to walk over in case you have to park up the street. The two cons I have are: 1) No showers 2) The classes are only warm not hot. I asked Kelsey and she said both classes I took they heat the room to 90 degrees. As someone who's always cold, 90 degrees I'm barely breaking a sweat. The no showers thing actually didn't matter too much because I wasn't drenched in sweat like I usually am after hot yoga. Next week I plan to take the "Power flow" class which I'm told is hotter and also more difficult, so I'm looking forward to it.
