She really made him look like a brand new dog and I'm grateful that she took such good care of my puppy son! She was quick, on time (actually a few minutes early), and was VERY professional. Told them to shut up, be quiet, "growled at them" . Even when I said something he continued. I am sure that it can get tiring to listen to dogs bark constantly all day, but if you can't handle it, you shouldn't be working with dogs. Those are people's family members, and they are trusting you with their care and this man is being verbally abusive. I can't see if he's doing anything physically to them, but he is verbally being abusive to these dogs. I can still hear him yelling and he knows I'm out here. I told him I wouldn't dare take my dog there and it didn't seem to deter him so if you take your dog here, you might want to pull in the back parking lot sometime and just listen because I guarantee you you don't know what's going on when you're not there. This guy should be fired. I have been here for 30 minutes now and he is still yelling at the dogs, screaming at them to go sit down in a very angry tone. He is obviously not a happy person and he does not need to be around other people's pets. I am posting this because I care about animals. I'm not trying to cause problems for this guy. I don't even know who he is but he does not need to be working with animals, and if you take your dog here, you have a right to know.

I was scared he'd fail his trial since he's not good with people, but he passed and he surprises me with how much he loves everyone. Now when we go in, I feel like I'm the one feeling stressed, and he's the one ready to leave me! He is always happy in the photos they post. Plus I watch the webcams and it's the only place I've been able to watch my cat when we boarded her too. I've had concerns, but haven't felt the need not to come back- we're always seeing subtle changes which tells me they listening to their customers. My dog Buzz and I absolutely loved working with Betty at Canine PhD!…read more After reading so many glowing reviews for Canine PhD, I decided to give them a try after looking for positive reinforcement trainers near us in Decatur. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made for both Buzz and me! Buzz struggles with anxiety and reacts nervously when new people approach, especially on walks or in public places like restaurant patios. From our very first session, Betty made both of us feel comfortable and confident. She immediately recommended a no-pull harness that made a huge difference. Walking Buzz and his corgi brother, Phil, is finally fun again! I truly missed our morning walks, and it feels amazing to enjoy them again without constantly worrying about Buzz pulling away or Phil getting loose because my attention was elsewhere. What stood out most is that Betty doesn't just train dogs -- she trains their owners, too. She helped me learn how to communicate more clearly and understand what Buzz is feeling. Betty gave us exercises to build trust and confidence. He's already such a happy pup, but he lit up even more during each session, as you can see in his picture! You could tell how proud he was every time he got something right. The whole experience strengthened our bond even more, and I ended up enjoying training far more than I ever expected. Betty also gave us fantastic techniques to help Buzz stay calm when meeting new people, both out in public and at home. He's learned that his bed is his "safe spot," and now he'll go there on his own when guests arrive until he's ready to say hello. It's been such a big, wonderful change seeing him so much more relaxed and secure. We did three sessions at Canine PhD and three at home, which was the perfect balance. It gave us the chance to practice in both structured and real-life settings, and between sessions, we had Betty's helpful homework to reinforce what we were learning and keep us progressing even outside of training. The pricing was very reasonable and the value we got from the training far exceeded what we paid. What I appreciated most was Betty's honesty and empathy. She set realistic expectations right from the start, explaining that this wouldn't be a quick fix -- and she was right. Some dogs are just naturally more anxious, but she gave us the tools and confidence to help Buzz make real progress. I can't recommend Betty and Canine PhD enough! She's a wonderful person! Super patient, thoughtful, and genuinely invested in helping both dogs and their humans succeed. We sent our dog to Spot for a few months earlier this year when we first moved to Decatur. We were…read moregrateful to have a convenient location right around the corner from my work and the prices seemed fair. My first impression of the place was walking in a being met with an overwhelming smell. We've been to other daycares and know this is not how it should smell. But, we figured our dog sniffs others' butts so maybe smell doesn't really bother her. Second impression was that the staff kinda seemed half-baked half the time but we figured hey, dog people aren't always people-people. We get it. They just seemed like minimal effort kind of people (we literally got a free stay one time because they had already shut the computer off before we picked her up and they didn't feel like turning it back on...we weren't even late). We never got any bad notes about our dog when we picked her up but we started noticing some things that caused a lot of concern and ultimately led us to pull her out. The first was one time when we came to pick her up, we could see her through the window of a small room that shared a wall with the entrance corridor. She was sitting by herself on the concrete floor, up against the glass just waiting for us to get her. There were a few other little dogs in the room (ours is about 45lbs) but there were no humans, no bedding, no toys, and there was mess everywhere. She was just sitting there looking bored to tears. Not ok. The second was another time we came to pick her up and brought her home. We kept smelling a weird smell and when we inspected her when we got home, we found she had dried urine *caked* on her elbow. There is absolutely no telling how long it had been there and no one bothered to clean her?? How dirty is your facility that there are just puddles lying around not being cleaned that our dog laid in? We brought it to their attention the next time we took her in and told them we did not want to see that again. We asked if they knew what happened, but they said they had no clue where it came from. We understand mess happens, it's a place full of animals. But it was very visible on her white arm. The least they could have done was clean it off for her/us. But they didn't even notice? Again, not ok! The final straw came when we picked her up a few times later and saw a puncture wound on her side when we got home. It had been bleeding and didn't look like anything was done to clean it (which is concerning given how dirty this place apparently is). Not to mention, NO ONE reached out to us that there had been an incident or said ANYTHING to us when we picked her up. Why? Because they had NO IDEA it had even happened!! This time we called them directly about it and asked what happened and they said they were completely unaware of a situation. Um, wtf?? So our dog gets punctured and you can't tell us the story? Like I said, half-baked! SO NOT OK!!! We never sent her back after that! We gave them a thousand chances despite our reservations and they just kept proving us right that we should have been hesitant from the start with that bad smell. TLDR: This place is filthy and they do not keep up with your dog. We recommend literally anywhere else! There are plenty of others to choose from in town.
