We bought our Trane Heat Pump from CB Lucas in 2014. The unit failed within six months and the company honored the warranty. The second unit had a problem and C B Lucas replaced the heat pump again and didn't charge any equipment or labor costs. Lesson learned: sometimes things go wrong and it's best to have a company that stands by their work. I highly recommend C B Lucas. We have now had a maintenance contract with them for the last 12 years and the unit they installed is still working great. He found the problem fairly quickly and explained to me that the thermostat does not get power from the unit. It runs on batteries and if at any time the thermostat is Blancke replace those batteries that's all usually all it is and showed me how to open it up so I can replace it. since I had batteries to replace it with he did not charge me anything more than the diagnostics fee. read more

We had them as a subcontractor to a house addition. We experienced several issues with the original unit and CB Lucas took their time to try and fix it. They eventually said they needed to order a part. I had to call numerous times to get updates and never got call backs. Skip to months later and we've had even more issues with the unit. Had another company come out and say the install didn't include a safety valve to prevent leaks (it's an attic unit) and the wire CB Lucas had cut in their initial repair voided the warranty of the unit. I'm now having to pay $6k to fix the unit. The new company said this was avoidable but they've seen it with bad actors. Will not return and encourage anyone who has work done, if you see CB Lucas on the list, ask for someone else. read more

I was out looking for an external duct vent cover for our basement bathroom. Because our vent is 3" versus a 4", it was difficult to find the vent in any big box store. I called CB Lucas and the told me they had one and to stop by to see if it is what I needed. I stopped by and it was the perfect part. When I went to pay for the item, they insisted that I take it free of charge. I thought that was incredibly nice in this day and age. You simply don't get that sort of kindness from local vendors anymore. They even gave me some stickers and fridge magnets to boot. On Thursday evening, July 11, 2024, our heat pump, which had been installed by CB Lukas 9 years ago, stopped working. Since it was after hours, we called the emergency number and a technician agree to come out that evening for a $250 after hours premium, plus regular charges. Since it was so hot without A/C, we agreed. He told us the "EV" had gone bad but he had no idea what it would cost or how long it would take to get it to make the repairs. The charge was over $500 for this news. He said he would have someone from CB Lukas call us the next day, Friday, with info on the cost and schedule for getting the part and installing it. No one called us Friday though we called the office three times throughout the day and the receptionist each time told us the Parts Guy was "in a meeting". "away from his desk" or "I don't know". By Saturday, the house was boiling with the heat, we put our pets in boarding to cool off, and told our neighbor our distress, and he suggested another HVAC company that had done work for him. Unlike CB Lukas, this company had a person answering the phone on Saturday, who made an appointment for us first thing Monday morning. The young man who arrived is a part owner. He gave us a price for the part and affirmed it would be difficult to get in the near future. Due to the age of the HVAC unit and our inability to deal with any further days of extreme heat without AC, we agreed to replace the system and selected one of the three units he suggested at different price points. On Tuesday, July 16, his two man team arrived with the new unit and worked diligently all day to get it installed. At 8pm, they turned on our new HVAC and over the next few hours, the extreme heat in our house began to dissipate. Today, Wednesday, it is wonderfully cool in the house. Meanwhile, late Monday afternoon, someone from CB Lukas finally called to "Talk about installing a new HVAC unit." My husband informed him that since no one from CB Lukas would talk to us on Friday, despite our spending $500 on an emergency call Thursday night, we found another company able and willing to do the job in a timely manner. Bottom line is we wasted $500 and spent an additional day roasting in our house without A/C because we made the mistake of calling CB Lukas. They may have been competent in the past, but their current customer service and competence is very poor. Don't waste your money on CB Lukas!!!! read more

I really feel like CB Lucas took advantage of me and refused to answer my emails. I paid them 8k to replace my heat pump in 2023, while I was out of the country and renting my home. 1 year later I returned to my house, and when I go see the heat pump, I see that they not only did not replace the air cabinet, the current one was cracked. I emailed them, with a cordial email asking if there was some misunderstand as per the work order I had, it read the air cabinet would also be replaced. I asked if they could clarify the situation with me as I was upset and perhaps I misunderstood. No response. It looks like I will now have to have someone else fix the bad install by CB Lucas. I used to have a lot of trust in this company, but after how they treated me, I cannot recommend anymore. read more

True story. Just happened today, 12/11/2023. I made an appointment on Friday for this company to come to my house for a plumbing issue. They quoted a price, which I accepted and an appointment was made for Monday. The morning of the appointment they called and left a voice-mail. When I called back, they quoted me a price three times higher than the original quote. Complete bait and switch. They said I had not returned their VM quickly enough, so they sent the plumber who was supposed to be at my house (between 8am and 2pm) to another call. They said they couldn't arrive on the day they had scheduled. The manager was rude on the phone and frankly couldn't have cared less. Definitely will never use them. Consider them unethical, deceitful and with horrible management. Can someone give less than 1 star? read more

Today we had a water heater installed and our fall HVAC check-up done. Received a call from a very pleasant lady at 7:50am saying the technician was on his way. At 8am he was at the front door with everyone he needed to start work. He did not seem to mind me watching what he was doing and explained everything. When he finished he started draining the water heater so the next crew could get right to work. At about 8:30am the two technicians for the water heater arrived and started immediately. Same deal; they did not mind me watching and asking questions, did a fantastic job, cleaned up everything and we're done by 10:45am. Great service. I strongly recommend them and intend to use their services for all my HVAC and plumbing needs. read more

We used a builder who used CB Lucas. The HVAC system was built completely inadequate for the finished space in the house. Aside from providing only 1 vent to condition over 1,200 Square feet of finished space (including exercise space), the units provided never worked properly. The AC leaked (photos) and damaged the ceilings. The heating does not work still and Michael Lucas wrote he will not honor the warranty. If zero stars were allowed, that is what I would put. Find a reputable company and save yourself a lot of time, money and aggravation. read more

We had an issue with the water temperature getting too hot and was unable to lower the temperature regardless of the adjustments made on the hot water heater. My complaint has nothing to do with the diagnostic of the issue but the level of customer service. The tech was rude and loud and have trouble understanding the problem. He was disrespectful. I contacted the company and spoke to the service manager and he was actually more disappointing and dismissive. He was focused on the diagnostic and I was explaining that my issue was with the level of customer service received...so if professional and polite staff is what you are expecting there is a possibility that you will not receive it here from techs or service manager. read more

Hoping to avoid any repairs or maintenance until COIVD-19 was over but apparently fate had other ideas. My air handler started making weird grinding noises and winter coming around, I decided to call C.B. Lucas. Bill was sent to our condo and there were no regrets. He took a look (face mask and shoe covers) and identified the problem as the fan motor controller. Bill was transparent about the cost upfront and provided options because the repair cost was steep. Lucas tech came to repair HVAC unit April 2017. Tech diagnosed leaking coil and was excellent. He added Freon, got unit functional, and informed me the coil would need replacing. I provided tech with manufacturer's parts warranty info and he provided price to do repair. Price was steep, but I was told it was complicated repair and system would need to be drained to make repair. I followed up with Lucas multiple times and was told, "Part was on back-order". Finally, in October (eight months later) when I called them I was told my unit was "never registered for product warranty" but they could get me an alternate coil somewhere else. This was a bold face lie. I called the manufacturer's distributor and manufacturer to verify both my warranty and part availability. Yes, I had a 10-year parts warranty. Yes, the part was once again on backorder and would be back in stock middle of November. I asked if it was typically for a part to be out of stock for eight months. The distributor opted "not to comment". However, if Lucas had an alternate coil option for me why did it take them eight months to suggest this? I have worked with Lucas in the past and found them to be ethical, so the only explanation for of this behavior is 1) something has changed there; or 2) they simply did not want to perform this repair. If they didn't want to complete this job they should have had curtesy of telling me this instead of stringing me along for eight months, leaving me to chase them down and then bold face lying to me like some crazy ex-girlfriend. Maybe I simply was the "perfect storm" customer, but they never made any effort to make it right either. I would NOT recommend them to others. read more

A month ago, we noticed our 16-year old system was continuing to run, and we were not cooling off. Time to call CB Lucas. As it turned out, our compressor was out, and with the cost of replacing compressor for an old system was not the best decision. We purchased a new Trane system, and it was installed on the 22nd of June. The crew arrived right on time, and were completed in about four hours. We were impressed with their efficiency, with their care of the yard, and their customer attention. As long as we remain in the area, CB Lucas will be our first choice. read more

Came out to diagnose an AC issue we had. CB Lucas along with another technician came out to our service call. Showed up prompt and provided great service. There was an issue of diagnosing the unit versus the furnace. They told me to call when it was frozen up so they could see the situation and evaluate it further. I just had my three A/C units serviced today for the upcoming summer season with one of my favorite techs (Bill). Our heat pump died in early May and I had to research how to get a replacement before the hot weather started. It was hard to understand the different models but I wanted something that had a reputation for reliability and a reasonable price. I ended up getting bids on a Goodman 14 SEER heat pump and air handler (if you haven't replaced your heat pump in the last few years, you will probably have to replace both the heat pump and air handler -- that's what I found out anyway). I also got a bid on a Lennox 14HPX heat pump and air handler. The final bid I got was on a Trane 4TWR heat pump and air handler. Prices from the heating and plumbing companies were the following -- each system was proposed by a different company: Goodman - $6,660 Lennox - $6,500 Trane - $5,654 In researching the different systems online, the Trane seemed to be the best and it also had the lowest bid. I went with the Trane from C.B. Lucas A.C., Heating and Plumbing in Dumfries, VA -- 703 590-3700. The sales person was Troy. He, like all the other representatives, gave me a good technical overview of what was needed and what they could provide. Troy went a bit further and showed me the companies price list for the different systems. He said to always ask to see the price list. C.B.Lucas company did a great job installing the system, they cleaned up the work area and did everything efficiently. I hardly knew they were there. The system has been working great. The Trane is larger than the old on, it much quieter and it cools better. It is also, according to the technicians, much more efficient. I am very happy with the work they did and I highly recommend them.. Be aware that you have to register the new system online within, I think, 90 days in order to get the 10 year warranty on the basic heat pump and air handler. read more

I utilized them via Lowe's HVAC service. They gave me one of the four quotes I got. CB Lucas was the most professional and thorough of the four. They gave me options based upon what I needed and wanted. They also gave me the best value. After doing a ton of research on the companies and the producrts, we made the decision to go with CB Lucas and Lowe's. The turnaround from decision to installation was about 5 days. The 2 guys that came to do the install were polite, professional and answered all of my questions. They walked me through the system and any routine maintenance we would have to do. We walked through a 36 point inspection checklist and that was it. Both installers had been with CB Lucas for 10 years plus. My indoor coil failed. My home warranty providers technician said it was a TXV valve. It didn't sound quite right, so I went to CB Lucas, and Eric came out and diagnosed it as an indoor coil failure. I decided to go forward with the repair on a Friday, and they had the parts on Tuesday. Eric is a great technician and is worth his weight in gold when it comes to HVAC repairs. Ever since I received a quite expensive quote from a competitor - the guy on the back of the truck - I've used them for HVAC repair, InSinkErator repair, plumbing issues, and dishwater water line repair. Very nice and professional folks, and the prices are quite reasonable. They told me what was wrong, what they did to fix it, and what to watch for in the future. They explained several other options without the up-sell. In fact, one guy told me the part/effort was so minimal (~$5 and 10 minutes), he wasn't going to charge to fix it.
