Absolutely Not Recommended for Major Projects - Poor Workmanship & Zero Accountability We hired this company for a large residential project worth $330,000, and it's been one of the worst decisions we've made. The windows and doors were installed incorrectly--not according to what was quoted or agreed upon. Then they removed our gutters while replacing the roof, and didn't provide any protection from the rain. Days of heavy rainfall led to severe flooding in our basement. Their project manager, Chris, came to dry it out, but the company refused to tear down and replace the water-damaged walls. Now there's visible mold, and they've completely stopped responding. As if that wasn't enough: They installed the wrong type of stone--and had I not caught it myself, they would've just left it. The correct materials still haven't arrived, and we've received no timeline or communication. Construction materials have been sitting in front of our garage for months, now rusting from exposure. This project was supposed to be finished long ago. It's still incomplete, poorly executed, and mismanaged. I had a very disappointing experience with C&L Ward and would not recommend them to anyone if it was an option to give them 0 stars I would have. We hired them to do the siding, soffit, fascia, and gutters on our home, and from start to finish, their customer service was terrible. They consistently failed to return phone calls, which made communication extremely frustrating. When we asked for hard copies of our paperwork they continuously pushed us off. On top of that, they attempted to double charge me for the gutters even though I had already paid for them. That alone raised serious concerns about their professionalism and organization. The quality of the work is also mediocre. Less than 6 months later, the siding on the side of my house is badly warped. When I reached out about the issue, they made no real effort to fix it or stand behind their work when I called to speak to someone they put me through to the head manager and when I explained what happened to my siding he didn't show any concern but decided to laugh on the phone despite the significant amount of money I paid them, They told me to use a different contractor to replace all the messed up siding on my house but still continued to say that we had there quality and guarantee which meant nothing. What made things even worse is that after refusing to address the problems, they still tried to push me to leave them a positive review. That felt incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful given the situation. Overall, I am not impressed at all with this company. I got my large backyard deck and side stairs upgraded from wood to a composite. It looks great and will increase the value of my home. I paid a lot of money up front. It was an expensive project. I got anxious when it took a long time to get started. My volunteer HOA didn't seem to know what to do. The builder sent his plans to the city department. They were helpful. As for the workers at C&L Ward, they were all competent. Two of them needed motivation by a supervisor. There was a new crew hired to wrap up the project. I liked them the best. They helped find and fix the sprinkler system hose that was broken by the other crew. C&L Ward will tell you that they aren't responsible for replacing or repairing sprinkler system lines. I think that should change. I had marked the location of the sprinkler system heads. Another thing that could change is that they could clean up the site at the end of each day. Perhaps take a big magnet to collect the screws. otherwise, they can come flying out of a lawn mower. read more

Well, let's just start by saying..Don't believe any promises on Start Dates. we signed the contract and gave the Salesman $12,000.00 (half) on 6/11/2025. Project was supposed to start on, or around 7/29/2025. we kept contacting them, and didn't get a reply. Finally, on 9/17/25, Ashley spoke with Installer, they were finishing a job, and would be out to start the following week..9/22/25. That day, the dumpster was dropped off and the material was delivered. The work was to be started on Tuesday 9/23/25...NO ONE SHOWED UP OR CALLED. I called Ashley, she contacted installer, and he said they were still finishing previous job, and they would be out to Start on Wednesday, well Wednesday came and went with another NO SHOW. THURSDAY, I called Ashley going on 10am because they weren't here yet., she called back at 11:30, telling me that the installer didn't have a crew. After she talked to the Installation Manager, he said he would be here on Friday with the Installer. Friday 9/29/25, came and again NO SHOW!!! I text Ashley at 10am, received a text back at 11:45, saying the Installation Manager (Chris) would be here Saturday. Maybe Chad, the installer also. 9/27/25 Saturday..Chris got here 8:45, Chad arrived around 10am, complaining about where we lived , it was a long drive from Flint where he lives. We live in Richmond Township. They worked till 5pm. Sunday, they Both came out and got the siding done on the Peaks of the house. They said they would be back on Monday to Prep for Stone Work. 9/29/25 Monday...NO SHOW, AGAIN 9/3025 Tuesday, Chris show up, Chad eventually came...they worked until about 2pm, then had to leave. 10/1/25 Wednesday, Chad came out at 10am, worked for 2 hrs, then told my Husband that he was 'Frustrated' , so he left. He never did return. Finally, by the Noon on Friday 10/3/25, the prep work was done. Ashley contacted the Stone Work installers, the were to start on Tuesday 10/7/25...Another NO SHOW 10/8/25 Wednesday..NO SHOW 10/9/25 Thursday, got here around noon 10/10/25 Friday.. NO SHOW Finally by the end of the day on Tuesday, 10/14/25, the job was Done! On Thursday 10/16/25 , my Husband gets an email with the Final Bill, requesting payment. They never came out and clean the Stone Work. They had to adjust the bill for Credit due to Us, for unused Materials, and they were expecting final payment without doing any of that. In the end, it took them 2 weeks before they adjusted the bill, and they never came back to clean the stone work. If it wasn't for Chris, the installation manager, it would not have gotten finished.. We give Chris a 10 star review, and everyone else 3 stars. read more

I'm honestly shocked by the reviews and feel like I was extremely lucky to be assisted by the people I was assigned for this project. I notice a lot of these reviews lean on the older side so perhaps they have now gotten their act together. In any case, I was very impressed by C&L Ward from start to finish. I met them at a trade show and eventually had them replace my wood deck with a composite one and I had nothing but great service the entire time. From Ashton's first visit to explain the product/take measurements and negotiate with us, Stacy's consistent follow-ups throughout the entire process and to Chad, who was on site each day. As with any big project, there were a couple of hiccups, a bent gate damaged upon arrival, a step less than a 1/4 inch off code and a few weather delays, but everything was handled expertly by the C&L crew. They ordered a new gate, came back to install it as soon as it arrived, fixed the step so it passed inspection and kept me updated whenever there were delays. I'm extremely grateful for their service and hope that this level of service is not an exception, but the rule. read more

Scammers! Jay would not leave our house after we said "no" to their overpriced estimate. We got a call from Jay a few days later saying he measured our door wrong and needed to come back out. He then gave us a cheaper estimate and kept hounding us when we said we couldn't make a decision right away. Then the install guy showed up to get a closer measurement and said the frame was the same price no matter which size. Jay called again saying that they have to charge us more because the frame size we choose wouldn't fit. Don't trust this company! read more

DO NOT USE THIS Company ! Qupated $8300.00 and find out that I could buy the same exact sliding glass door from Home Depot for $2600.00. They came out in late December and I clearly told them I would not have the door installed until late April or early Ma. They sent me a email telling me that the door was built and sitting in their warehouse. I have them come out and install the door and ready to pay my bill. come to find out I was being charged 9.95% daily from the day they claim it was built. I had to have D & W windows come out and adjust the screen because it kept falling off. Do not use these guys for sliding door repair! Predatory practices. My older parents called them because their Anderson sliding door was sticking and needed repair. They would offer no assistance over the phone, just said we need to send a guy out to look and it's $100. Repair guy walks in and slides open and closed the door once and says it's out of square because the house shifted and needs replaced. Pulls out his phone and sets up a sales call. Was gone with their $100 bill in less than 10 minutes. Sales call guy shows up (on the wrong day and time btw) and quotes them $6580 for the door replacement, of which about $4000 is labor to replace "extensive rot in the door frame" which could not be seen since it was covered up. Called D & W windows for a second opinion and they came out and installed a new sliding door complete for $2500. In fact the salesman and the workman who installed the new door expressed surprise that C&L made no effort to fix the door and we're blown away by their quote. Also there was no rot in the opening. I saw it with my own eyes. The total door install took one guy about three hours and it's beautiful. To be fair I assume C&L as an authorized Anderson dealer would be a fine place to buy new stuff from. But I'm 100% convinced they saw my older parents who know nothing about home repair and decided to try to gouge them. They stole $100 from us to be sure. read more

I have a cracked bay window. Estimator just left. Could not give me a price because he did not have the proper tool to determine the window thickness. He did mention multiple times that only one tech has the tool and it costs $5,000. Not sure what I was meant to take from that. He then said another tech would have to come out, but he couldn't schedule the appointment for me. He said they're another 3 weeks out. This will end up being approximately 2 months just to get a quote. They also charged me a $99 show-up fee today. I wound not recommend them based on my experience. read more

I hired C&L Ward to replace several of my windows, one of which had been installed by Exteriors of Lansing. That one bowed after about 2 months, and could not close properly. I asked for them to replace it, per their guarantee, and they refused, because the company that made the window "went out of business". Not my problem-It was in their guarantee. So then C&L Ward replaced it and put in several other windows. Per the paperwork, 20yr. warranty on the glass. The seal broke in one of the windows and glass needed replacing. Guess what- the company that made that window,sold to someone else. That company agreed to replace the glass if I could tell them the numbers on a tape inside the frame. However, with all the rain we have had, that piece of tape was no longer legible. So I call C&L ward to have them get that info, and guess what--they do not write that down!! Mind blowing. Screwed a second time by a window company. So all I can say to anyone looking to hire either of these companies--Don"t. Search for someone willing to stand behind a warranty--better yet, make it be in writing that they agree and are responsible to stand behind their warranty no matter extenuating circumstances. read more

Whatever you do, don't even consider this business. We signed an $80k contract with them in May for the work to start in July. Cut to mid-September where they said they would start on the 16th. Apparently the building materials never got ordered.They showed up, walked around and left without any notification . When we called to see what happened we were told, without explanation, they would now start on the 18th. The night of the 17th we get a call saying they wouldn't be starting on the 18th and gave no new start date-not that it would matter. Meanwhile, we've been making payments on the building material that's been sitting in our driveway. Never. Again. I'd give negative stars if I could read more

I had them install a brand new front door and storm door. The storm door install went so bad they had to rip it out and order a new one that added a 2-3month delay. this is after the six months i waited for the project to begin. (yes i know covid adds a delay, all the more reason not screw up a install to add more delay) They blew out my doorbell and transformer because took off the butoon and let the wires touch for too long...and have yet to reimburse me for that. The front door glass frame had a crack. Was also missing the doorknob holes. these are issues that they decided to fix after installing the door rather than doing it for the month it sat in the warehouse in advance before brining it out. The front door has poor alignment four months later they still have no clue how to fix it. sunlight peaks through the gap. Even after getting a new storm door they still did not install that correctly what's alignment issues and a big scratch down to glass. They stripped out many hinge holes and latch holes on the new door that had to be repaired. (nothing seems quality like repairing something new). I asked to speak to management about all this, No response. Not even the salesman will help. emailed pat ward directly, he said he would step in, then nothing. for the first time in my life i opened a BBB case, also still no response. I went with CL ward over a homedepot or lowes and paid a bit more so I can get a white-glove install, now its the most stressful project I have ever dealt with and this is my 2nd 80s home I updated. Basically if you go with this company and the install goes smooth you're in luck, but if you have an issue you are not going to get any help. read more

They really care about the quality of work they are doing and I find all of this RARE. Normally, I hate having work done to the house, it makes me cringe with anxiety. These three door guys are wonderful. C&L are lucky to have them out there representing their business! I have to say, Stacey from their office was fantastic about updating me on the date of my project. They keep in touch, another rare thing to experience. Basically took my $75 service fee and said whole house needs to be resided and they couldn't repair anything. Well, I only wanted a repair to two pieces of siding that needed to be put back in place after a storm. What a hustle if you ask me. Especially since the repair was high on the second story, as I informed the company during my appointment set up, and the employee came out with maybe a 9ft ladder. So, right off the bat I should have known there was ZERO intention of repairing anything. Don't recommend at all. My wife & I had the estimate, and ordered 10 windows and a slider to the patio. Installation was scheduled for July 9 - July 11. One window was incorrectly measured and was not installed. The slider looks good but will not lock for some reason. On the 16th, I received a random single text saying that a new window and header for the slider was ordered. I am shocked I wouldn't receive a voice call and still, on the 30th, shocked that customer service isn't an issue with the company. I can't lock my slider!!!! Does that seem ok? This Company is HORRIBLE!!! Highest price and lowest quality. Roofing job - their salesman Greg Rice mislead me telling me the baffles were installed improperly. Then a construction worker told me why Mr. Rice was wrong and I verified it in a Home Depot renovation book. The roofing foreman boasted about how they "don't read the work orders" and "just do what we think needs to be done." That's called breach of contract. They failed to install 8 sheets of OSB and 47 baffles. Now they will have to strip the roof they just installed all the way down to the plywood and do it right. Their roofing crew are complete pigs - trash everywhere - including fast-food containers, water bottles, roofing nails, cut sheet metal, staples and tons of debris which they blow off the roof with a leaf blower. Worst company I've ever dealt with. They will return msgs on their time, but never see anyone come out to complete the job. What do others think about C&L Ward? Final update 7-24-17 I'm happy to say that our decking project has been completed and it is beautiful. I am very thankful that we were able to come to a resolution. If I was solely basing my review on the deck itself, it would be a 5 star. I do need to take into consideration everything that had to be done to get this job completed and therefore I can only give it a 3. Paid to have hurricane shutters removed and replaced on said windows and shutters are inoperable on largest window. I'm simply frustrated! My wife and I had a sales rep come out on April 9th and we ordered a brand new front door with side lights and, as expected, put a 50% deposit of $3,100+ down. Today, I received my second update from C & L Ward telling me again that my door is still on back order and, for the second time, the expected date for the door to arrive at their warehouse will be another 8 weeks. This is an addition to the first call telling me our original install date will be delayed 6-8 weeks. Furthermore, once they receive the door they said they need an additional two to three weeks to "prep" it. It looks like the door we ordered on April 9th is now expected to be installed around late October maybe even November, IF there are no further delays. I understand that we live in a post-pandemic environment and, I have to say, every person I spoke to at the company has been incredibly nice. However, It's frustrating that all the blame keeps getting pushed on the manufacturer and they only work with one door manufacturer!! During my conversation with them today, I very politely explained my concerns that they have $3,100 of mine and really have no idea when my door is expected to come in. They only have an "estimated" arrival. Because of this, I expressed my concern that I think it's only fair to return my money until the door actually arrives and, when that happens, I'd be more than happy to pay for the whole project in full. I was immediately shut down and told that is not an option. My wife and I have absolutely no negotiating power. They have our money and we're under contract so all we can hope for is that they don't go out of business. Honestly, what can we really do? We hired C & L Ward to install a new roof..The salesman talked a good game, went on and on about great reputation, professionalism, Owens Corning Platinum Status, etc. However, this company is the most disorganized, unprofessional, uncoordinated mess I've encountered yet. Every crew they sent out (we encountered several crews, as it took FIVE attempts to get the attic baffles installed correctly) was a motley crew of inexperienced sub-contracted day workers that looked to be about 12 years old! It took six months of following up with them on a nearly daily basis to work toward a resolution--and didn't get real results until I spoke with an owner and threatened to file complaints with the BBB and file a contractor complaint with Owens Corning. This is the worst company to deal with. They were late in their install of our door and then messed up a couple of the steps, delaying its completion even longer. The door was a month late coming from the manufacturer (supposedly) so I'll give them slack on that. First they didn't have all the trim pieces on the original install day, so there our door sat with insulation between brick and wall exposed for two months. Someone came out a month later to finish but said no one told him what pieces he needed and he didn't have any of the trim with him. A couple weeks later he came with the trim then cut it wrong, delaying it yet again. Almost FOUR MONTHS from the date we were told the installation would take place it was finally complete. And really there's no point in setting an appointment time because these people show up anytime they feel like it during the day. One time they came as my husband was just waking up with our baby, not the noon appointment we agreed to. All along the way I voiced my concerns to people who would say, "that's out of my control but will voice your concerns to so and so and have them give you a call". Not once has anyone from this company given me a call to apologize. I told them I expected to see our inconveniences reflected on our final invoice. Instead we were asked to pay the full amount. The ONLY reason we chose this company is because they blew smoke up our butts about how great their installation and customer service is. We could buy Thermatru doors from plenty of other suppliers but we were sold on their supposed expertise and quality. Do yourself a favor and don't fall for the same sales pitch we did--go with someone else! read more

This is a story that began in Sept. 2011. In the beginning, we called them to give us an estimate for 5 windows, a sliding door, and a front door. The salesman came out to our house with his sales books, pictures of prior jobs, and a window to show us what kind and quality ones they were going to put in. We contacted C & L Ward because they are an authorized Anderson dealer. We told the salesman we wanted Anderson windows and sliding door right from the start. We booked the job and they came out and went to work. It was only a 2 to 3 day job. That was what they said anyway. After 4 months and problems from a worker out laying in his car because he was "sick", to a window breaking after it was installed, to the wrong products being installed in the first place. It didn't get completely done until Feb. 2012. Well we thought it was done. We never got Anderson windows. What we got were windows that were made by a company owned by Anderson. Beware of their bait and switch tactics. We had them out a few times over the years because of air leaks in windows to air leaks in the sliding door. That takes us to now. I called C & L Ward again with a problem with our sliding door. We had to use weather stripping and a draft dodger on the bottom just to try and keep some of the cold out. We had an appointment for them to come out on March 3rd, we waited and waited and 3 o'clock came and went and no one showed up or called. I called the service manager and had to leave a message. The next day we set up a new time and day for service to come out. They came out on 3/10/21 and said our problem was the the interlock that is between the 2 doors. He said it was a special order part but he just happened to have one in his truck. Hmm a special order part that he just happened to have in his truck? It took him about 30 minutes to get the job done and we were charged for 1 hour of labor, $199.00. When they came originally, I asked them if they had any of those booties to put on their shoes? He said no, we will take off our shoes. When they left my wife asked me to look at our wood floors. I did and couldn't believe what I saw. There were foot prints left by their sweaty socks that went from the front door all the way to the back door. The tech left some bits by mistake and when I called him he said just leave them on your front porch. We waited for him to come and get his drill bits because my wife was going to show him the floors and she was going to ask him, "who is going to pay me my labor to clean up the mess you left?" No one showed up that day so we cleaned up the mess and said never more, never EVER will we allow anyone from ANY company come into our house without clean shoe booties. By the way, my wife asked the tech if he had any of the booties, he said yes out in my truck but I prefer to take off my shoes. He told me when I asked them when they first got there that he didn't have any. Just the last lie from a company who lied from us from day one. read more

Worst experience ever and we are still dealing with this awful company! Hired them for roof in April 2017 five skylights and some brick work. They pulled a permit and then shingled over it. Now we know why..they hired a crew of unprofessional roofers. Four leaks later and we finally realized why they didn't want it inspected. As if that's acceptable? Everything they did, was wrong. Ordered wrong sky lights, didn't put them in right, one was cracked and they put it in anyway, couldn't trim them out because they were all crooked. Wrong color trim, didn't vent roof right, shingles over our gutters?? Who does work like this?? They do! I could go on and on! Now we have two ceilings that were just painted with damage because, by their own supervisor's words, it wasn't put on properly. We have had them out here NUMEROUS times for service. I am sure their service department does more work fixing the mistakes than they have jobs. We have videos, pictures and a file of phone calls, emails. It has been an unbelievable experience. I would love to know how Pat Ward would feel if this were his home? More importantly how would Pat like to have this roof on his house and how would he like it handled?! His answer is another patch job and he has no problem with it not passing inspection..as if he would accept that on his own home! It's criminal and he refuses to step up to the plate and stand by his motto "Peace of Mind Guarantee". The roof needs to be replaced, pass inspection and shingles correctly. That's the least thing that company can do and the right thing to do. That's good business and this company doesn't have that. A+BBB rating, I don't think so.
