His team is resourceful and they did not generate excessive work to add cost. For our kitchen / laundry facelift, we updated the flooring, backsplash, lighting, and reconfigured our laundry area. George's crew helped to side vent the dryer which the big box store was unable to do. George gave valuable input on our bathroom design to optimize the small space. He had suggestions for an in-wall toilet, a corner sink, window ledge niche, and talked us out of a doorless shower (thank you!). He knows small spaces very well and was able to place the fixtures in their best locations. George would give us a heads up on our requests that were going to cost more than ~1k. He had some subcontractors come in to help with varying degrees of quality and cleanliness. We are glad he managed the plumbing contractor who had to come back 3 times. His paint jobs varied quite a bit in consistency depending on who was painting. The best part of working with George was that we were expecting our first child, and he worked very hard to complete the project before her due date. When I finally expressed my frustration, he admitted he had intentionally been ignoring me because of the earlier misunderstanding and offered to send someone to finish the outstanding tasks, "if that's what I was upset about." That level of unprofessionalism was far more disappointing than the few remaining tasks on the project. Misunderstandings happen, but they shouldn't result in giving a customer the silent treatment and leaving a job unfinished. I cannot recommend someone who responds to conflict by avoiding communication completely.

In the end, we were in-budget, on-schedule, and we could not be happier with the results. Not only that, but Franklin was always helpful: we got tips on where to buy grout, and how to do smaller jobs for ourselves. --- Detailed breakdown of work We had quite a list of improvements we wanted to make: - continuation of existing fence to fully enclose the yard - installation of a new door between two parts of the house that were connected by an extra-thick wall - removal of 2 security doors and replacement of 2 existing exterior-facing doors - moving an interior wall (which we opted not to do) Franklin quickly impressed us early on to earn the job. As first-time homebuyers, it was refreshing to speak with a contractor who would (and could) educate us and explain things -- such as pointing out stud patterns in the ceiling that likely suggested a wall was load-bearing. Other contractors would just wave their hands and give outrageous estimates with no explanation of their process. FJ, by comparison, showed an incredible attention to detail, always took measurements and explained what they would do, and patiently outlined every work item and expense before they did it. FJ Construction started work almost immediately. At every step, Franklin would call me over and double-check the work, explaining any tradeoffs that came up in the process. When the fencing didn't line up perfectly during early measurements, he explained why and offered us solutions. When the hallways on either side of a wall didn't line up, Franklin explained our options -- and helped us to frame our off-center door so that it would still look good. When our new exterior doors had thresholds that were too shallow, Franklin retrofitted the old thresholds by cutting and affixing them to the new ones. When we wanted our fence gate moved, Franklin explained to us the liability we might face if it opened the wrong way and tripped a delivery person.
