I had a great experience at the Prescott Cal Ranch, mainly because of the guy working the front counter. The cashier was incredibly nice, patient, and genuinely helpful from the moment I walked in. He took the time to answer my questions, made sure I found what I needed, and had a really positive attitude the whole time. It honestly made the entire visit better and easier. I am not a rancher. Nor a cowboy. But like John 5, guitarist for Marilyn Manson, I was greatly influenced by watching Country Music television shows such as "HeeHaw" and "The Grand Ol Opry" as a kid. So, I can trace my obsession with fancy Men's Western Wear back to those little boy days. Yes, Porter Wagner, I blame you for the way I dress. This is why I shop at C-A-L Ranch Store: Western Wear. While they don't carry the embroidered Rockport or Skully jackets and shirts, they do carry a nice assortment of Pearl Snap dress shirts, vests, and hats by ELY, Rock 'n' Roll Cowboy, and other top brands. The prices are not discounted every day, but the clearance sale prices make it worth keeping an eye out for them. Sadly, over the last couple years the inventory has decreased. Another problem is the store is a disaster. All the displays are a mess. There is stuff lying on the floor. Boxes of merchandise sit in the aisles with the tops open. Basically, no one cares what the place looks like. I'm surprised that a corporate chain has let things decline so badly. Unless the corporation is dying. Wait... The Prescott AZ store is absolutely the worst retail store in the US. The gun/sporting goods is great clothing selection fabulous, everything is great until you try, sometimes successfully sometimes not, to check out. That's where the incompetent morons take over, and do they. The funny thing is some of them have been there since the place opened so you would think they would have a clue. Don't ask any of them where something is. They probably know just don't want to be bothered. I swore off this craphole a year ago, but swung in today because my regular place was out of what I needed and I was close, and I couldn't believe the cretin who runs the place wouldn't fix the problems. Read the reviews most of the five stars are from "local guides" in other words paid for. The majority of the rest are one star not from local guides. I was pleasantly surprised by this store's selection of stylish ranchwear/ workwear for women. My only suggestion would be to stock more of the smaller sizes because Carhart field gear (especially the women's pants/ tactical work tights) tends to run a little large. read more

I went in for a few items and saw an end cap with horse daily wormer. I looked and saw a coupon for 10.00 off so I thought I would try the product. It was priced at 49.99 I brought It and the coupon to the counter...the gal said the coupon was expired..i asked "then why is it in the store? If you are a country bumkin farm/ranch boy like me you will love this store too. So if you are a farmer/rancher, cowboy, have acreage with horses, etc. you will want to check it out. Your wife will like coming too. They are in the old K-Mart store next to Safeway so it is a big place. This is one of 16 other stores in Idaho, Utah, Nevada and now Arizona. A store in Flagstaff due to open next week. They also offer charge accounts through GE Capital. Today was my first day in this store though it opened Nov '11. I was pretty amazed at the selection and range. It is like the old Co-op feed store, vet supply, pet store, hardware store, garden supply, western wear, and outfitter store all rolled into one location. They even have a good selection of John Deere tractor toys for the kids. Sometime I will do a price comparison to Walmart and Home Depot. I will give an update when I do. read more

Went to buy a manure rake. Saw 2 tuff rakes with aluminum handles both marked $26.99. Got to the cash register with one of the rakes, only to be told that the price was $44.99!!!! They offered to sell it for $35, but wouldn't honor the large barcoded/ price sticker. Said it was part of a promotion back in December of 2020., so I was too late and therefore out of luck Extremely disappointed. This is a great store. The clothing section is great, I've purchased Boots, Jeans, Shirts, and Belts here over the years. Always fair prices and good selection. I just bought some "out of season" outerwear for 70% off. I've also purchased tools, a rifle, ammo, and many other items. I'm writing this review mostly because of the multiple poor reviews written by others about poor service... I've always been treated well. I believe you get treated the way you treat others. I purchased a pair of Ariat boots for my husband Tuesday evening. Unfortunately he needed a bigger size. I returned them Thursday evening hoping to exchange them for his size. They did not have the boot in his size so I asked the clothing clerk representative if she could order the boot size that I needed. She told me that they do not place individual orders during the holiday season because if she did it for me, she would have to do it for others. I spoke with the manager and asked her the same question. The manager told me that she could transfer the boots from a store up north, but it would take from 6 - 8 weeks. She then told me she could order the boot, but I would need to pay the shipping fee. We have been buying clothes, dog food, dog beds, dog bones, tools, boots, ammo, etc., from Cal-Ranch since we moved to Prescott over two years ago. My husband and I support small businesses and we really enjoyed shopping at Cal-Ranch even though some of their prices are higher than other businesses. I will Never purchase another thing at Cal Ranch! If this is the way they treat their patrons, I would rather spend my money elsewhere. It was so disappointing. read more

Bill in the gun department must have been having a bad day or maybe he was upset that I was wearing a face mask when I asked him about ammo availability. Come to think about he wasn't wearing a mask. Most of the other store staff were wearing masks. So what is the stores policy for employees to wear masks? Regardless, I found Bill's behavior rude and unacceptable. I was having breakfast with a friend this morning and he showed me a jacket he had purchased at the C-A-L Ranch Store in Prescott AZ for $19.99. After breakfast I went to the store and found that jacket in my size. When a took it to the counter the sales person said it had been on sale but the sale ended yesterday. I asked her if she would honor the sale price and she refused. I understand that sales have ending dates and there is no guarantee that it would be honored. Many other retailers will honor an expired sale items for customer satisfaction, but apparently not C-A-L Ranch. read more

staff unfriendly i bought a pair of fairly expensive boots today (11 feb 18) at about 3:30pm. you'd think a store that's nearly empty on a weekend (not a good sign) would be happy to have the business, but no. young guy who rang us up was just really unfriendly and kind of passive aggressive, like he was a cop writing us a ticket rather than ringing up an order. made a face when my wife asked him to close a knife for her that she didn't know how to close, and then wordlessly tossed the knife back in the display bin. no response to my 'thanks' when he handed me the receipt. wow, i started to regret making a purchase at CAL Ranch and doubt i'll do so again. kind of put a damper on the valentine's gift (the boots) for my wife as outside, instead of a happy walk to the car, we were both like 'what was up with the crappy attitude in that place?' lastly, although the other staff who 'helped' us in the store were more communicative than the cashier guy, i can't say they were friendly. you definitely got the feeling that you were bothering them by being a customer and there was a kind of dismissiveness mixed with a bit of snark - like customers are just fools who wander in off the street and have to be tolerated. this is a classic sign of bad management in any store. you can tell there's no one guiding the staff and instilling a positive 'service mind'. it's such a simple thing to do in terms of creating a good company culture but when it's not done the effects are really obvious. anyway, have a look at the other bad reviews here and you'll notice something: there's not a single response from management. After purchase service is poor. The chain saw I purchased there broke the second time I used it. I was close to Flagstaff so I called that store when it happened, Sunday morning. The Tech. told me it could not be fixed in house. I had to go to point of purchase for repair shop referral. When I went to the Prescott store the asst. manager said he was sure his guy could fix it. I asked if I could just take it to the repair shop and was told no. I was told they would get to the next morning, at 4:30 pm the next day I call to get ahold of the repair tech. who called at 5:00 pm to tell me that they can't fix it I have to pick it up and take it to the repair shop which was close when I called there. I called corporate office they said I could have taken it directly to the repair shop. If you want to buy a Stihl chain saw just go to Able Saw or Ace Hardware. You will be much happier read more

I had the same exact experience at the Prescott Cal Ranch as the customer below. Except I took it one step further. I asked the employee if he had what I was looking for, he replied "In a minute" and went back to talking with the other customer about the customers last hunting trip. I was there to purchase several boxes of ammo, and some refill supplies. All I needed help for was to ask if the one type of ammo that was out of stock, and when it might be back in stock. The other customer was holding a tiny length of wire, and that was all. I waited as these two droned on about nothing business related for several minutes. I eventually left and went to Walmart and was able to find ALL of the ammo, including what was out of stock at Cal Ranch. If Cal Ranch gun counter employees are more interested in shooting the breeze with customers, instead of actually working, well this store won't have much of a future in Prescott. read more
