This shop specializes in reusable containers and household products. You can buy empty glass and or tin containers for things like bath soaps, shampoo/conditioner, laundry detergent, lunches, etc. You can also buy things like bamboo straws/utensils, handkerchiefs, and other reusable personal items. It's a clean shop with friendly staff who are more than happy to answer any questions you might have about the products they sell. It's a small shop, though, so they could be limited in terms of variety, but overall I felt that they have the majority of basics you would need for your home.

Reusable: Lint and hair brushes. Facial pads. Feminine pads and cups.

I've been looking for a place such as this, not knowing it was in my very own backyard! I heard about it via word of mouth and I want to share its existence for anyone that may be interested in reducing your carbon footprint. They are located in Alamitos Bay in front of Malarkey's Grill. Their other location is in Downtown L.B. You can also bring your "odd" recyclables such as empty toothpaste tubes, mechanical pencils, water filters, etc. Do you have clean empty containers you want to donate, they will accept them. I wish Sprouts and Whole Foods had a similar concept of pre- weighing my personal container for use since they sale grains, nuts and candy in bulk already...

Awesome place. They removed the terracycle Boxes though, which is sad. Love the refill stations!

Great little shop in the middle of the Ballast Point plaza where you can bring in your own containers and refill on stuff like shampoo, lotion, detergents, liquid soaps, etc. They have a good selection of plastic free home stuff like sponges, brushes, dental floss, straws, bags, razors, etc. They don't make the refill stuff, but most of it sourced from the west coast. They get new products in all the time, and have cheap stuff to more expensive things so you can totally introduce your "normal" friends to zero-waste and plastic free living. Love that BYO has teamed up with a non-profit and that they do workshops! It's also a Terracycle drop off location so you can bring your empty beauty product containers, dental stuff, water filters, and granola bar wrappers to be mailed in and recycled.

Mason jars with eco lids. Super convenient and is still proof! Just make sure you screw it on straight!

Whoa. I thankfully drank the 16 oz of olive oil in 15 minutes. Day 1 was HARD. I definitely felt sick as my body was working the oil through and doing its thing. Day 2-5 were challenging but I stuck to the raw fruits and veggie diet + spring water. Day 6-7 were my easiest days! I'm on my last day as I type this review. I'm proud of myself for making it through. It was definitely a challenge for me but this was a good reset for my system. My skin is glowing, bloat gone, digestive system is MOVING, I feel lighter. I remained active (yoga, walk, weight lighting) during this cleanse so by 3pm I felt ready for a nap daily due to the low calorie intake but nonetheless I didn't feel dizzy. Hot yoga felt amazing on this cleanse! If you're looking for a cleanse, check this out.

Renee, the owner, was very helpful and gave me a warm welcome when I arrived. She told me she didn't carry African net sponges as they contain plastic and are not good to use for your body, so she suggested the agave wash cloth instead. I took my time to look around the shop too and there were so many goods that I got a bit overwhelmed so I'll have to come back to peruse those more sometime :) Renee was very friendly, kind, helpful, and awesome. Her energy is warm but strong like a fire. She took the time to talk to me about her shop that she's had for over 30 years now, asked me for my name, and hoped that she'd see me again -- which she definitely will be! Lots of books, tote bags, bracelets, incense, hair products, and much more. She told me she tries to host events for the community too, apparently I just missed a sound bath that they hosted this past weekend. I'd definitely recommend stopping by and I will most certainly be back again!!

The main reason why I'm able to try different things and keep most of them is because of their amazing return policy. It felt like most of the employees were more interested in standing around talking to each other than helping customers. I honestly felt like only one employee was actually working and ringing up customers while everyone else was standing around doing who knows what. It also took an unusually long time for someone to bring over a key so I could look at a cologne I was interested in purchasing. With so many employees on the sales floor, you're telling me not one person could step in and grab a key for the associate helping me? To make matters worse, there was a line of customers waiting to check out, yet only one cashier was working the register the same employee who was also waiting for someone to bring her the key. No one else seemed willing to step in and help, which made the wait even more frustrating. This team definitely needs better training and much stronger customer service skills. I was extremely disappointed with my experience and ended up leaving without buying anything, even though I had planned to purchase several items. To make matters worse, the store didn't even have any cologne testers available, making it impossible to try the fragrances before buying. I've been a loyal Ulta customer for years and spend a significant amount of money there, but this is by far the worst Ulta location I've ever visited. I would not recommend this store to anyone. Save yourself the time and visit another location where customers are treated with respect and where employees understand the importance of providing quality customer service.

The reason why - and I have to point this out because the store is named Rooted - is most of the neon pothos did not look too healthy aside from one plant in a 6" pot (larger than what I was looking for). In fact, many of the plants were rather middling, with soil looking dry when most inventory are tropical houseplants. Was it the heat at the time I visited or negligence? I'm not sure, but even with seemingly fair prices as plant shops go (4" philodendron Brazil was $12), it's harder to buy a plant that looks sickly. In addition to plants, Rooted also carries housewares and refills for shampoo, body wash, etc. I can't speak to the prices because I have a similar store within walking distance that I typically bring my dispensers to.

I wasn't sure if she was new or if there was some hesitation in trusting the information I provided. She said she was "just trying to make sure it was right," but it felt unnecessary and a bit uncomfortable. It might make more sense for staff to weigh items themselves to avoid situations like this. Overall, it's a pleasant store, but the inconsistent availability and that checkout experience make me unsure if I'll return.
