This shop specializes in reusable containers and household products. You can buy empty glass and or tin containers for things like bath soaps, shampoo/conditioner, laundry detergent, lunches, etc. You can also buy things like bamboo straws/utensils, handkerchiefs, and other reusable personal items. It's a clean shop with friendly staff who are more than happy to answer any questions you might have about the products they sell. It's a small shop, though, so they could be limited in terms of variety, but overall I felt that they have the majority of basics you would need for your home.

Reusable: Lint and hair brushes. Facial pads. Feminine pads and cups.

I've been looking for a place such as this, not knowing it was in my very own backyard! I heard about it via word of mouth and I want to share its existence for anyone that may be interested in reducing your carbon footprint. They are located in Alamitos Bay in front of Malarkey's Grill. Their other location is in Downtown L.B. You can also bring your "odd" recyclables such as empty toothpaste tubes, mechanical pencils, water filters, etc. Do you have clean empty containers you want to donate, they will accept them. I wish Sprouts and Whole Foods had a similar concept of pre- weighing my personal container for use since they sale grains, nuts and candy in bulk already...

Awesome place. They removed the terracycle Boxes though, which is sad. Love the refill stations!

Great little shop in the middle of the Ballast Point plaza where you can bring in your own containers and refill on stuff like shampoo, lotion, detergents, liquid soaps, etc. They have a good selection of plastic free home stuff like sponges, brushes, dental floss, straws, bags, razors, etc. They don't make the refill stuff, but most of it sourced from the west coast. They get new products in all the time, and have cheap stuff to more expensive things so you can totally introduce your "normal" friends to zero-waste and plastic free living. Love that BYO has teamed up with a non-profit and that they do workshops! It's also a Terracycle drop off location so you can bring your empty beauty product containers, dental stuff, water filters, and granola bar wrappers to be mailed in and recycled.

Mason jars with eco lids. Super convenient and is still proof! Just make sure you screw it on straight!

This is such a lovely concept and I love that it's in Long Beach!…read more Everything is baked fresh in this home kitchen/backyard farm. I came across this small business thanks to good old social media and had to look them up on Yelp. I hope they get more reviews and customers! What I ordered: - Epi sourdough baguette (not pictured because I ate it all): I didn't get the sourdough flavour the night I picked it up, but I definitely tasted it the next morning. So flavourful, not-too-chewy, slightly sponge-y, and a perfect quantity to finish in one whole day. - Sourdough baguette: Just like the Epi baguette, I only tasted the sourdough the next day (which isn't a bad thing). - Jalapeño jack biscuits: Large thick, fluffy, chewy (yet tender),, super flavourful, and packed with jalapeños & cheddar - none of that miniscule piece of jalapeño and barely-there cheese; it's loaded. I do have to call out that it wasn't a flake-y biscuit, which if you're inclined to, this is not for you. However, it is perfect for halving, slathering on some butter (or jam, for the plain biscuits) and eating. - Sourdough biscuits: Just like the jalapaño sock, this one was proper biscuit, but not flake-y. If you're looking for that, this isn't it. - Sourdough brownies: These were interesting! Filled with thick chocolate chips and a good square of brownie, the sourdough flavour wasn't noticeable to me, but I liked that it wasn't cloyingly sweet. - Chocolate chip cookies: These are thicker yet flavourful. Something I've noticed with thick cookies is that the taste of flour or sugar is high, but in this case, the distribution of chocolate chips throughout the cookie seems to have been managed well! Every bite gets me a few chips, all while not being too sweet for me. - Oatmeal raisin cookies: Slightly sweet for me, but I liked the toasty-ness of the oatmeals and the balance of raisins. Ordering was easy: The day the ordering was open, I went to their website and added the quantity of whatever products I wanted, and then paid for it. I got a confirmation e-mail with the pick-up date, time range, and address. Pick-up was quick and a breeze: The day of the pick-up, I parked on the street opposite the house and walked up the look for bags labelled with my name. It was easy to find - the bag(s) are pretty large and the labels are large fonts; just make sure to pick up all your bags (depending on everything you ordered). Note: The e-mail says to show the barcode to the baker, so I knocked, however I was informed that I didn't need to do that. That's a good know thing for anyone else!

L Let's start with her sourdough. They have the perfect rustic crust and an amazing balance in the bounce and chew in the center. My holy grail go to sourdough now Not only is her sourdough loaves and baked goods incredible, but she host fun baking classes/socials. I just got back from Alyssa's Halloween-themed sourdough panting event that she hosted on her farm Homestead and had the best time! She hosts about 2 events a month and seats fill up fast. There are upcoming classes for focaccia bread making, pie making, sourdough painting , gingerbread house making, etc, We were also treated to an incredible spread of baked goods including an amazing sourdough chocolate cake enrobed in a homemade caramel sauce. And to top that all off, she has chickens in her homestead that she let out during the event and they were delightful. Some of the chickens love to be held so we got to experience holding a chicken Can't recommend enough! Support small businesses!

Hmm... I have mixed feelings about the Art of Bloom. In a way, I equate it to LACMA's Rain Room…read more.. where you pay to be in one room. There are 2 ish rooms - first room is the main event with the flowers scattering their petals mingled with scents. The lighting also changes depending on your ambient temperature which was neat as well! The next room uses their AR app where you take pictures of the little things that pop out at you on little platforms. There's a shop, then a mini area where you can smell the scents broken apart - then you head back to the main room to reassess the smells. While I did enjoy the room and artistry... I would suggest the AR room to include opportunities to be able to fit ourselves in all of them. It was difficult because you needed to put your camera so close to the platforms so we were unable to be in it. I had a fun time, but I think maybe a few more rooms would have been nice! They do have a lot of events that sound really cool to do in the room, but they cost more than the $25 ish I spent for this. It made for cute pictures though! P A R K I N G There's a lot nearby that gives 2 hour free parking! The exhibit shouldn't take you much longer than an hour, although I stayed a bit to sit and smell the roses! ;)

I bought a student ticket for about $21, including service fees. The tickets have timed entry slots and it is recommended to come 5 minutes before your slot but no later than 15 minutes after. We got in, scanned our tickets and signed a waiver, and then we were led to the first exhibit. The first exhibit was their main attraction - a flowered ceiling with lights and petals falling. It was very beautiful and definitely IG-worthy. We were the only ones there so we got to take as many photos as we wanted. The second exhibit is the AR one. You need to download their app and then you can hover over the displays and see cool AR flowers bloom, petals fall, or little people running around. The third "exhibit" is the gift shop. They had perfume, shirts, and tote bags. We bought the AR stickers (a pack of 6 for about $5) so we could use the app at home and see the cool AR flowers and people. Overall, the pop-up was very interactive and elegant. However, it was small and short (we finished in about 30-40 minutes). I loved looking at everything but it is a bit pricey for what it is.
